    *Cry* my belt.... my belt....

So I read todays patch notes. It mentioned that there were changes to belts. I thought, "Hey, I wear a belt." So I logged in and I got an unpleasent surprize.

My character, The Black Mink has always worn the "Metallic Fanged Skull" belt. It looked cool, and it hugged my body very nicely. Tonight I logged in and found that it no longer sits properly on my character. Infact, it looks absolutely stupid.

Please put it back to the way it used to be. Otherwise you should change the name to "Metallic Bucktooth skull". Just look at how it protrudes now. PLEASE put it back to the way it used to be. None of the other belts have the look I need.

    Bucktoothed!

Another belt problem I have is with another character. On one hand, I love the new V belt. On the other hand, I really want my old V belt back. The old V belt just "worked" better on her costume.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Your belt casuality is due to the fix for clipping with the skirts and shorts i'm sure. Perhaps Jay can add in a second version that gets swapped in when skirts/shorts are not chosen?

I do not know if this has been addressed or not or if it is even a bug. But in shoulder options the gladiator pieces are missing from the list. Is it me or are they not there and if so can we please have them back.

and my wife said it was ok to say it so i will Jay is sexy

    [/ QUOTE ]

It depends on what torso you choose as to if the gladiator is gone, unless it's missing for all torso parts for males... Nope it's still there. That being said, Jay did duplicate many many options into other categories for a greater variety. I have noticed that the Gladiator Shoulder is missing from Jackets w/Sleeves for females but is in Jackets w/out Sleeves.

Jackets with Sleeves also has the different Epaulets but no other torso option has them...not even jackets without sleeves. I'd like to see these get duplicated over also, and the gladiator added to jackets with sleeves.

Is this the right place to ask for the run animation to be fixed for females with a katana or bow? They use the male run animation when they have the weapon out (and jump animation too for that matter - but that's not as jarring).

It would be really sexy if you could fix that or pass it on to someone who can.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Gotta agree. That animation thing has been bothersome for quite some time....and I remember it being reported by myself and others back during the Trick Arrow introduction to the game (i5).

Alien face is found under faces with masks. You can choose none for your mask to get no pattern on the alien face.

Thought this one got fixed with the last patch on test. You can post screenshots here. http://www.imageshack.us/ then just use the direct link option given in the huge list of links for said image to link them in the forum.
  10. [ QUOTE ]
Can't really put a screenshot in here, however the 'bug' is with the torso options for upper bodies with a single robotic arm. While new tops have been added to the game for 'normal' torsos, most still aren't available to torsos with only a single robotic arm.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Single robotic upper (ie robotic arm 1)? or Full robotic arm (robotic arm 3)? I've noticed most parts are there for robotic arm 3.

I do not have a picture, but during CoV beta there was a costume piece for Huge (not normal size for whatever reason), that is not in the game. The peice I am talking about was a feather like shoulder thing that wrapped around the entire shoulders (kinda like football pads). I miss having that option.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Unfortunatly I don't think I have a screencap of this from CoV Beta either but I'll look. This option was a Furry Shoulder for Males and Females. Looked good with the fur chest.

The pirate shirt for males went missing too and would be good for the fems also.

No pirate hook / peg legs for females.

  13. The reason you sculpt in grey clay is that it is much easier to see any flaws in the sculpture. The transluscent clay (pink) makes it much harder to find errors and fix them.

  15. [ QUOTE ]
I could easily be completely wrong, but I think, perhaps, you're thinking of Super Sculpey, rather than Sculpey III?

I fully intend on getting myself an airbrush kit, if I end up starting to do this regularly (which I very likely may) but I don't have one at the moment, so it's all brush work, for now. I've also heard of the idea of using a pasta machine, and as I'll be going to Michaels to get supplies for this in the near future, I'll definitely look into getting one of those, too, if they're that inexpensive.

Thanks for all the excellent info, keep it comin'!

    [/ QUOTE ]

There really isn't much of a difference at all between sculpey III and super sculpey Just different colors for sIII from what i recall. Anyway just check the creators of the stuff's website and you're golden.

By the way ordering the grey sculpting compound on the web is going to be much cheaper then going to a store to buy it....if you can find a store that even carries it.

A 1 lb box should be good enough for 1 or 2 figures at 1/6th scale. e.g. a 6' tall person would be sculpted to 12" height. Using an armature and aluminum foil will cut down on your clay useage a huge amount and also on potential cracking when baked.
  16. [ QUOTE ]
I'm considering getting back into sculpting. I'm most familiar with Sculpey, but I'm not sure how well it would work in doing character models, which is what I'm interested in doing. I used to do a lot of cartoony things with it, the point being that, it seems difficult to get sharp edges with it - at least without baking it, and filing it down.

So does anyone with some experience with the material have any suggestions? Keep in mind, I don't have access to a kiln at the moment, so anything that requires it is not an option.

Also, what kind of paint is best to use? I presume this varies with the kind of clay used...

Finally...no one get too excited yet. I'll be doing some (nearly free) practice sculptures, and I'll be tapping the vast art community of the CoH boards for models to sculpt. But not yet. I'll be posting sometime in the near future (probably around a month or two) about it, when I'm going to be starting.

Keyword though - I am not doing them now. Not that requesting one will make me hate you, and refuse to do it. But don't expect it anyway, simply because I tend to be a tad forgetful about such things, at times.

Edited to reflect that it's spelled "Sculpey" not "Sculpty" because I'm an idiot

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'll give you some info and PM you a link you'll find helpfull if you're really interested in getting back into sculpting.

Sculpey is fine for doing figures and many pros actually use that for doing prototyes. The other popular medium for prototypes (if not more used) is of course wax, which I would not suggest for a new modeller.

Sculpey III is a bit firmer then Sculpey and easier to work in. You can also buy a version of Sculpey online from the creators called something like Grey Sculpting Compound. It is a hard/firm version of Sculpey III that is easier to see flaws in as it is grey, compared to the flesh colored translucent normal sculpey you can buy in the stores.

To create a figure most people use an armature made of aluminum wire and tin foil as a core, then they attach it to some sort of board/sculpting table and start claying up the figure. Sometimes they will use a 2 part expoy putty to do a thin skin over the aluminum once you've got the pose done, leaving room at the joints for posing if the figure needs to be re-posed. You can buy some aluminum grounding wire at a place like Radio Shack for a few dollars, compared to spending 5x as much at an art/craft store.

A few sculptors will actually sculpt in the 2 part epoxy putties, such as Magic Sculpt. These have the advantage of not needing to be baked to cure to rock hardness, however you only have about 2-3 hours per batch to work, so you'd need to work on segments and mix up smaller batches at a time.

If you have sculpey that is rather squishy, then you can do what is called leeching the clay. You roll the clay out into thin sheets 1/8" or so and lay this between 2 sheets of paper (printer paper is fine) then place a heavy book or 2 on top of it and let it sit for a day or so. The paper will asorb the extra plasticizer in the clay making it a bit firmer. If needed you can leech it more then once. You can also mix in a harder polymer clay such as Fimo to make your sculpey a bit firmer.

If you have sculpey that is too hard you can add some plasticizer to it, which you can buy online at various places.

An inexpensive pasta machine will help you condition your clay into a more working state. You can buy these at craft stores like michales for about 15-20 bucks or so.

You can use anything to paint sculpey but once it is baked, and you can use a normal oven for this. You just prime it and paint. I see acrylics as being a good medium for painting a kit as you can airbrush them or use them as washes or just brushed on. Some kitbuilders will add pastel chalks to the figure before they seal them with a non shiny coat to add more to the paint job. Paint doesn't really vary with whatever you've used to sculpt as long as the sculpt itself is baked/cured and then primed.

Katherine Dewey has a fantastic book on anatomy and many tricks. It is called "Creating life-like figures in polymer clay".

Dental tools can be good for sculpting and same with home made tools such as rakes and burnishers. Cheaper to make and obtain then some art store tools.

That was pretty much my reaction, too.

All the physics are client side only, and no information about them is passed from client to server -- so, it's strictly a visual on your machine. That means, there is no way for people to play volleyball, or kickball. We could put one in that only you, the player, would see, but I imagine that isn't what everyone would like.

    Sorry, folks.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I don't get it. If I can knock a minion onto a teammate's tar patch, how is that 'client side physics'? Are my teammates not noticing my brilliant play? Is the minion not debuffed by the tar patch for the whole team? Why is the BRB different?

    Jeromus is confused

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not sure if anyone answered you but here is a logical deduction as to what's going on and an answer to your question.

You hit Creep A and send him flying towards your team-mates tar patch. The server then predicts a path that Creep A flies and tells the client to apply whatever physics to his flaling arms and legs and body as he impacts the ground. The Server also tells everone else who can see Creep A flying to apply said physics to his flight. Everyone probably sees his arms flaling around a bit different, kind of like how the Gravity Power Propel creates different items for everyone to see when used.

I'm really glad that it worked for you in pvp, at least somewhat. My experiences were the exact opposite. Got of glue arrow in a few fights and an oil slick. Was never able to get oil slick to light and then i was targted once the slick was down and pretty much insta killed due to 0 defense. CJ did nothing to prevent me from being hit and I really didn't expect that it would with its miniscule def bonus.

Our debuffs don't seem to do much to heros and on the villian side did little to help in fights vs the AV's.

The animations took way too long for me to even attempt to get anything fired off or debuffed in any sort of rapid succession. I'd get about 2 shots off and then get killed by passing blasters/scrappers/tankers etc.. Had an empathy try to save me once but that was pretty sad, they just died too. All the other heros were just as busy dealing with villians and their own problems or non problems for the scrappers/tankers

All in all i was not impressed with the slow / squishy feel of TA/A. PvE the changes have helped a little bit at the mid levels

    [/ QUOTE ]

I have to ask what you normally play? Defenders are always very squishy and are almost always a high-priority PvP target. If you aren't used to playing a squishy character (Defenders, Blasters, Controllers) it can be a pain.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Used to play a controller and a scrapper, then went to a tank and a dark defender for a bit. Now i play a dominator, brute & mm. So i'm familiar with squishy characters. The problem is TA/A has no real good defense at all in the set. The debuffs for acc of foes is pretty pathetic compared to dark/rad/etc... My grav/rad controller was much less squishy even before this whole containment ED junk

Here's another one....ask the devs to set up a PvP only server that you can copy characters to.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I do PvP on my own server, but I doubt any server puts up the numbers that this event does.

As for a PvP server, the limited time makes this so much more special. Everyone wants to jump in the action. A dedicated PvP server would dwindle down to just the "Hardcore PvP'ers" eventually. This server wipe and limited time allows everyone to have an equal footing.

    [/ QUOTE ]

If all you want is some lame special event where everyone has "equal footing" then the develpers could easily set up a pvp only server that anyone can copy to and be insta leveled to whatever level x zone is. Unlimited free respecs basically. If it ends up being only hardcore pvp'ers then they have proven the point that it doesn't excite most of the PvE population. They could even wipe that server every other week, not that it would be needed.

There is nothing special about this event. Log in, build crappy/great character get owned/own people, get mapserverd or lagged out due to all the graphics and way too many people on a server not optimized for it. what fun!

I was in the RV test last night with a TA/A Defender named Black Archer III.

I must say that I was quickly singled out as a Major target after dropping glue arrow, disruption arrow, and oil slick and lighting it up in quick succession on about 5 villians at once.

I'm not the best PVPer around even in a Stalker, but I was getting kills. Also managed to quite nicely solo my Cape Mish (I exited out of RV just long enough to run the cape mish and 2nd costume mish, finishing both in about an hour). I'm going to HAVE to make that costume on live when I7 comes out. Was really NICE. with cape added and second costume set, I went back in an really felt like I was an important contributor. Best moment of the night was successfully getting a stacked Hold on Black Widow. (my EMP and ICE arrow, combined with a teammates Bitter Freeze Ray and another teammate's Gravity Distortion), whereupon I debuffed the heck out of her (disruption, acid, poison gas) and turned her into a pincushion.

My build was as a Natural TA/A defender, taking every power except flash arrow and stunning arrow, replacing them with Aid other and Aid Self, with Combat Jumping and Superleap as my travel powers. If I was to do it again, I'd probably drop explosive and keep Stunning.

Most things were 3-slotted with their most useful bonuses (attacks wree always 3-slotted with damage), with a few exceptions: some of teh exceptions are below
Aid Self and Aid Other were slotted with 3 Heals and 1 Interrupt reduction.
Oil Slick was 6 slotted with 3 Damage, 1 recharge, and 2 defense debuff
Glue was 6 slotted with 3 Slow and 3 Recharge....it was nice to have Glue practically perma.
Fistful was slotted with 3 range and 3 damage
Explosive was 3 slotted with 1 damage and 2 knockback.
Blazing Arrow had 3 damage and 1 ACC (but I still missed the slick 2 times in a row fighting Rikti in my cape mission), as did Ranged Shot.

Superleap was only slotted with 2 Jumping, but Sprint was also slotted with a Jump, so I was pretty close to max.

Inspirations are hard to come by, so I've not been using them.

  25. PvP in CoX is not fun, nor is it very Comic Book like. While RV is a fun zone the "reward" for turning the zone is near non existant and then a few min later you're doing it all over again...joy! /sarcasm.

Add to that the abuse of powers by players to kill people off without them even having a chance to fight back and PvP is a total failure in CoX. The Developers attempts at balancing the powers vs each other is sucking all the fun out of the PvE enviornment for a failed PvP enviornment.

Hiding gank squads who just Teleport foe / hold-fear-stun-immobolize / kill you are not fun nor are they encouraging to even want to ever enter a pvp zone. Typical coward-stroke-my-epeen behavior from humans has of course made sure that PvP the way the developers have made it is a total failure, unless they want you to just play tankers/brutes who have the potential to survive and dish out some hurt in return. Forget playing any sort of squishy at all.

Again I will also reiterate that PvP in CoX is NOT very Comic Book like.

There are no cool battles vs your nemesis where cars are tossed around, building sides smashed in by impacting bodies, climbing out of the rubble to dish out the same to your foe. No energy beams being fired at each other and deflected by one shot cast shields and countered by your own beams, etc..

    Analysys: PvP = Failure.

It may hold some excitement for some but then why aren't they playing a real pvp game like Counterstrike or WoW or Guildwars thats balanced around such things..though WoW itself has some issues in PvP.

Devs stop wasting time and resources on this PvP crap and start adding to / fixing the PvE game that we all love.
