  1. Ok, I guess I just misunderstood the phrase "well it's true" and "Zep is right". I am still curious why a person would build a system from scratch and limit themselves by starting with memory.

A classic car may not have the performance of a new car but it has many things an old computer does not. One it may be a dream car. I have head many people talk about a '69 trans am but I have yet to hear wishing for a commodore 128. Two it may be an investment, or an interest in history, etc... I do apologise I don't follow the classic car example.

Plenty a good computer can be built with a ddr2 system again I just find it interesting you would build an entire system because of 40-60 dollars when that difference may be made up in further upgrades, and considering the exclusive sockets mentioned are the latest generations and also am3+ or whatever they are officially calling it will also support ddr3.

I guess I could of suggested a 980a board, or the Asrock 770DE+ just to cover ddr2 but... that did not appear the direction the OP wanted to go.
  2. Sorry, I did not intend to say that was a false statment. My english is not the best but curiosity was my only intent with the statment.

I relly did not think I mentioned Zep made a false or wrong statment. I just got curious since the OP mentioned the socket, the cpu and amount of memory. So as I was thinking I wondered the thought process behind limiting the socket/cpu choice by memory instead of the other way around. Nothing more nothing less.
  3. Like so many others my favorite pvp moments were pre I13. The speed of the game was fun. To be honest trying to think of anything to slow down that one super dominate player with my lowly pve build toon was fun. Since I mostly play tanks I found great fun in fighting hordes of npc's nd then getting ambushed by players, it was fun trying to survive.

All that being said I also think its fun if every AT or power set or even origin knows it can be dominated by another or dominate another... (hehe) at its "core". It would be nice to incorporate origins for more than just fluff.

    But honestly thank you.

As a suggestion, decide how much ram you will want now, and possibly in the future. I mention because there are boards with 2 or 4 dimm slots as well as boards with 6.

Decide if you want to stick with ddr2, which is now getting to be more expensive, but you might have some old memory laying around. Or go with dd3 the current standard. That will determine what CPU / board you get.
I find it interesting that you seem to choose your entire system around memory.

Still I expect this product is aimed at commercial and business use. I bet a big ram drive would make Photoshop fly like the wind.

I have no change in my response regardless of any other mitigating factor. That is very salty for a unit that can hold up to 64 gigs. If I am spending the initial amout for this product I am sure to purchase enough memory to make it useful for my application.

Yes a product like this more than likley is not aimed at personal use, even more specifically probably not toward the average or even the enthusiast gamer.

Interestingly the real world reviews I ran across... that is non scientific personal reviews state that they notice no real/meaningful difference between this product and a ssd they replaced.
  6. Half empty... Half full.

    Good point.
  7. The 560Ti should be plenty enough muscle for your wishes.
  8. That particular board supports up to 8GB's... so your nephew may happy about that.
  9. The hydra boards are pretty neat. Not well known atm but promising.
  10. You could try the msi 870a fuzion or the asus crosshair iv extreme.
  11. No not at all. But every card listed is going to be bottlenecked and the age of the system it may be ideal to put the least amount of pressure on the power supply as possible... along with spending a minimal amount on the up grade.

My second choice would be the 430 you recommended just because it would probably be the most beneficial to keep in the long run.

The op mentioned replace or upgrade so I am just keeping the door open for a not much, but slight improvement for minimal price.

Any choice will work its just another option.
  12. I would also like to recommend the ATI 5450 it draws very little power. PowerColor makes a "Go! Green" version, and it is only $40 at newegg.com.
  13. True Cyberpower and the likes can be a nightmare but other times they do fine. They can and do substitute parts if they need to, so you may not get exactly what you select.

I am sure you will be able to build your own. Most parts come with adequate instructions.... and cautions. The down side is you will need to handle returns if need be.

Store bought pc's are ok but dealing with proprietary items can be a pain. Plus you have all that junk installed.

If you decide to build you will/can get plenty of help right here. I don't know you but if you have any patients and want to take time to search for installation videos to raise your confidence I would suggest going for it.
  14. What a fantastic job by ZAM, sad thing is ZAM seems... seems to hear the cry better than our devs. I like how they still say CoH is cool just the two communities and then... we can be they only super hero game on the market again.

    well... one can dream.
  15. Focus on writing about my classic battletech unit and kitbashing or modding minis... along with building custom computers and maybe some first person shooters to fill time.
  16. Six months had changed a lot, now it's right at 5 times the amount after you purchase your extra RAM for it. 64 gigs that is.

Yea I would guess it is for a select few professional sort of people. Still... wow.
  17. Lol, no I am under no miscoception. We can all hope, and it is my hope that they fix what a majority of players think was a mistake. Easiest starting point... roll back.
  18. I agree the limitations were fine. I did not go stalker hunting on my defender my powers did not suggest that it would be a good idea.
  19. I just hope now that it is free to play they dont get a huge boost and decide to fix pvp before coh decides to roll back and tweak.
  20. Actually I think we agree... "at the core". (see how I did that...)
  21. You must not be one of those jeopardy playing computers. Bugs get fixed, not a system the majority gets bugged about. Bugs, bugged big difference only the one with the (s) gets fixed.
  22. That's to bad. All coh needs is another lost player, between dc and free to play champions things are getting competitive...

Here is to wishing some kind of word comes from anywhere about a rollback.
  23. I really don't think many players thought pvp was a donkey to begin with. Some things, maybe many things needed adjusted.

It was fun at least powers functioned as they did in pve not just at "the core". Sure some AT's were stronger but let's face it tanks and scrappers are not primary buffers/debuffers/healers and defenders were not ment to go toe to toe. Times change adjustments need to be made but what we have now for a majority is not fun.
  24. I guess that depends on the meaning of the word some is. Not to mention several other words and phrases.

But it was a nice dodge... like pve super reflexes nice, not pvp super reflex nice.
  25. Wow $500 for up to 64GB thats tough to swallow, but if you got it...
