Quote:Wow...great find, Kali.I know that someone said that the CM was not really tracked down, but here's another example. Not a CM, just another user.
Also of note: the thread on the Blizzard forums where the Mod posted his name has been closed and deleted on the grounds that (get this) you're not allowed to post a person's personal information on the forums.
That's way more ironic than RAAAYYYY-ay-AIN on your wedding day. -
Quote:Probably as much insight as I do at my company (i.e. not much, since I'm a cubicle monkey).I didn't mean that he has a say in the matter, just that, ya know, him being an employee, would have some insight into whether or not NCSoft would ever consider something of this level of idiocy.
Just as an example, a whole bunch of senior management at one of my divisions, out of the blue, were shown the door today. Nobody saw this coming to the point that a big spur-of-the-moment meeting was called and everyone in the building not on vacation showed up.
If NCSoft were to decide tomorrow that they like the cut of Blizzard's jib (they'd be insane to say this, but roll with me here), I don't think there's anyone at Paragon that could foresee something like that.
Sure, Castle could come in here and say, "We're not doing that," but in the end it would just be hollow words.
This is not a jab at Castle or anyone at Paragon...it's more a jab at corporate life. We're just cogs in the machine, baby. -
Quote:I'm not sure Castle has a say in that matter. That would be for someone at NCSoft to decide.Castle, please give us some solace and say that Co* will never implement something as stupid as what is going on with WoW...
But I'm hoping the rest of the industry is watching the kerfluffle and thinking, "You know, that isn't such a good idea."
I can guarantee that if CoH ever did this, I would out of here. Love the game, but not that much to have my privacy invaded. -

A Blizzard moderator gives out his real name to prove this isn't a big deal. The result? Hilarity!

Quote:I mentioned earlier that Fark.com has (over the past week) linked to two videos where a WoW player is threatening her former guild for kicking her out. I can't supply the links because she drops F-bombs every other word and I'd rather keep my account here in good standing. If you have any doubt that this person is unstable, the videos should be easy to find on Fark.com and going to their video links page (they were up in the past two weeks -- one had a headline that was something like "Isn't this a darling little snowflake?" with the SCARY tag).A lot of us have our information already out there.
But that doesn't solve/end this argument. Our community and the WoW community are two different beasts. I feel a lot of the people here that are okay with this change in another game are using their findings or beliefs in the CoH community to make that judgment. However, with a bigger player base, you get more insane players. With more play time, you get people becoming so attached to their character that losing on a drop roll for a rare sword really does become a moment where cyberstalking or even real life stalking is the answer.
Those are the type of unstable lunatics that these sorts of games can attract. And that's precisely why I have no urge for my real name or any sort of real information about me to get out on the internet. I don't use Facebook. I have a LinkedIn site that I never update (work related thing I had to do). I even wrote DVD reviews for awhile and used a pen name to do so (not a lame pen name like "Moriarty" like they have on AICN, either). -
Quote:1) Welcome back.
The real reason? Apparently Vivendi has inked a deal with Facebook to "cross-pollinate" Battle.net with FB, supposedly to attract new subscribers by exposing player accomplishments and armory drops.
2) Two friends of mine were pretty "meh" to this whole thing until they found out about the dubious Facebook connection. They just canceled their WoW accounts. One is going back to that Spreadsheets in Space game and the other is looking for a new game (just sent him the link for the free CoH trial). -

Quote:I tear them to bits and throw them in a plastic shopping bag, which is then used when I empty the litter box. If anyone manages to use something like this to steal my identity, I'll at least be able to confront them in court and let the world know that this person sifts through used cat litter for fun.2) Another one that's (hopefully) dying off: all those "pre-approved" credit card solicitations that we used to see. Sure, some people are careless and throw them out without properly disposing of them, but more frequently someone gets to them before you even get em out of your mailbox.

Quote:This would be my biggest fear. There was a story a couple of months ago about a guy who got "stabbed" in game in Call of Duty, tracked the guy down, and tried to get revenge in real life. Apparently, he was just as bad at stabbing in real life as he was in the game, so the intended victim is going to be okay. But that's not the point. There's some SCARY people out there.I'd be more concerned with the possibility that someone could find your address and show up to do you physical harm in real life (or start harassing you over the phone) than identity theft.
I could easily post some very NSFW (language) links to WoW people threatening other WoW people on the internet. That stuff scares me.
The Internets. It's Serious Business.
EDIT: Please note that I should be thanking Blizzard for saving me the $100 I'd have otherwise been spending on Starcraft II and Diablo III. -
The Ironic badge was nothing like RAAAYY-AY-AYYYYYYN on your wedding day, nor was it anything like a free RY-IIIIIIIDE when you've already paid.
Please change the name.
That is all.

Except the randomness of drops WAS actually broken and some of us muttonheads worked to get the Dev Team to take a closer look at the problem. And then when the closer look yielded no results we pressured them to keep it up until the bug was found. Considering that the bug had been present for a VERY long time, it wasn't an easy one to find.

Quote:Oh, don't get me wrong...a tank is truly awesome, and when you combine that tank with bubbles and rad debuffs, he SHOULD never be defeated.
If you're dealing with strangers, going with the simple formula of Tank = Wall between team and debt, and Fender as Tank Tender, it requires less faith in the skills of others.
My group was a little tentative at first, but once everyone realized nobody was taking much damage, the TF was a piece of cake. (There were a couple of mishaps along the way, but it happens.) -
Kind of ran into this yesterday, but I wouldn't call it "panic." We had 2 scrappers, 2 defenders and 3 blasters, and someone asked if we should wait for a tank. I just said with the bubbles and the rad debuffs, the blasters are essentially tankers.
Of course, the blasters do a BIT more damage. -

For awhile, Harmonix was partnered with a company offering 3D sculptures of your Rock Band characters. I think they were about $79 each, though. Kind of cool, but looked sort of grainy instead of shiny.

Quote:Just a quick note:If you feel as though some of that goodwill and extortion earned is something you shouldnt be able to take with you, stay tuned to Going Rogue information for something in this vein. However, it will not be INF in any fashion.
If anybody feels any sort of pangs of in-character guilt about taking these resources with them when they switch sides, please feel free to e-mail them to me.
I have no guilt.
Or shame.
That is all. -

Quote:The opening narration was gone, which was awesome (and has been pointed out by several). This needs to be emphasized. "Dark City" is quite possibly my favorite movie. It is near perfect in my eyes, save for that wretched opening narrative that takes away the mystery. What a horrible decision that was.
Frankly, a lot that was added to the Director's Cut was interesting, but I didn't feel it made the movie better in any way. Actually, I think it was more of a distraction and I could see why it was cut. But it's still better than the opening monologue.
The addition that I liked was they showed the events to Detective Bumstead's revelation as to what's really going on. In the theatrical release he makes a pretty big leap in logic, though he doesn't quite grasp all of it yet. In the director's cut, we see a few scenes that were left on the cutting room floor, and it allows you to follow Bumstead's progression.
Great movie. And visually one of the more interesting films anyone will ever see. -

Quote:If you have bought or sold something, it is no longer a "bid" and it sits in storage. All bids will be canceled. (I don't know if listing fees are being returned, since that is not in the FAQ.)Please add to the FAQ:
If a bid has been filled, what will happen?
My guess: the item bought will go into "storage" mode.
Alternative possibility: the bid will be canceled and the inf will return to the bidder, the item returning to "storage" mode on the seller?
If an item up for sale was sold, what will happen?
My guess: the inf received for the sale will go into "storage" mode
Alternative possibility: the sale will be canceled and the item will go into storage mode
If an item up for sale was not sold, what will happen?
My guess: the item will go into storage mode along with the listing price
Alternative possibility: the item will go into storage mode but the listing price will be gone for good(you'll have to pay it again to relist)
Another alternative possibility: the item will go into a special storage mode where relisting it for the same price will be free, but you can't get the listing price refunded. -
Quote:I think being a veteran of the game I generally know which arcs have Elite Bosses in them and which don't, but that doesn't help newer players. I'd support some sort of a warning, perhaps something similar to what Mission Architect does.Having experience with mind/kin I can definitely support what Tex is saying. If an EB has ptod the set is bordering on useless. Not only is establishing containment a rare occurrence which means your damage is very low, but they are free to roam around and punch your face in compared to all the other sets than can immob them in place, or use phantom army.
I remember solo'ing the Maria Jenkins arc and if I couldn't kill the EB before my full tray of def insp ran out I was dead. It was always very very close.
But that is largely irrelevant to the point being discussed. It would be helpful if the arc warned of such encounters before you embark on it. Yes you can look it up on the wiki...should you have to?
For the off topic part of the discussion, not all EBs are created equal, and the same goes for characters. There are going to be some EBs your controller or defender can absolutely destroy, and there's going to be a few that give you fits. -
Quote:ESPN's "30 at 30" series dedicated one of the episodes to that whole story, and it was rather fascinating. Gretzky wasn't exactly free of blame in that whole scenario -- he essentially forced the trade. Yeah, the GM got all of the blame, but there was definitely blood on the Great One's hands (which he admitted in the various interviews).Peter Pocklington is the most hated owner in NHL history, the man traded Gretzey, Edmonton still hasn't forgiven him.
If you can find a rerun of it, I'd highly recommend it. Actually...so far I'd recommend any of the "30 at 30" episodes.
AND, GO BLACKHAWKS!
And a hearty pat on the back to the Flyers. It was a great series.
