    Naming question

I always go for the spelled out version first (Doctor, Mister, Captain, etc.). I only go for the abbreviation if I get stalled there.

    min/maxer?

    Quote:
    Jade_Dragon gives example:

If you picture a function of a number of variables as a bell curve, then the point at which the values give you the highest point on the curve would be the best point to choose. My definition of a "min/maxer" is that he carefully studies all the mathematical interplay of the stats of the character in order to find that maximum point.
See, Sionwyn, this is how min/maxers talk. If you enjoyed listening to your math teacher, it might be for you!

    Ironblade found the advantage:

Interestingly, something like this also works in other zones. I have a marketeering character who lives in the Wentworths in Steel Canyon. When I need to drop something in the base, I use my base teleporter. When I exit the base, I return to the exact spot in Wentworths that I left from. There may be something handled differently for the base teleport power.
That's how the base teleporter always works. If you leave the base by the main portal, it always returns you to where you activated it (which can be handy).
  4. Well...maybe not China (VERY restricted internet). Heck, even Google is having an on-again/off-again fight to stay available to China.
  5. I'm not quite sure where people got the idea that GR was a one-shot instead of an ongoing thing. I fully expect them to add to the 1-20 Praetoria part eventually, too. Will that be upsetting that you have to have GR for?

    MT_Head wants timing:

When is everyone on? I was on last night from 8 - 10 and didn't see any one else at all.
Lotta left coasters, so it runs a little later. More on from like 11-2 am. I'm a night shifter so I'm on more during the day. And, like I said, we've got several regulars MIA doing other things right at the moment.
  7. Oh, and I'm not quite sure what's got a lot of people beyond Freedom and Virtue. Victory tends to be "middle of the pack" most of the time, but I'm not sure what's in third place most of the time (I think it used to be Infinity, but they had a PvP exodus to Freedom, I hear).
  8. Yup, definitely. We've had a few admin changes, but the Legion chugs on. Sadly, a lot of the scheduled activity went down when most of the missions we ran were available in Ouroboros, so it's mostly TFs and weird special events. Like I ran a GM hunt last month that was well attended, and I'm setting up a "Comics through the Ages" AE costume series where you have to wear a costume that represents the Golden Age, the Silver Age, etc. for each one. Things are a little slow now (pre-issue/expansion doldrums and many in the beta), but things should be rolling again once GR drops. Stop on by and say hi, if nothing else!
  9. I didn't even look at your toons! I remember Owl Man!

EDIT: Ooo, AND the Individual...and Effigy Waltz. I love those names!

    Lucky666 translates:

I think I get what he's saying pretty much, this isn't going to release with GR not even a little yet we still have to buy GR to experiance it.
Right. Like every update CoV had up until they combined them for free.

    Quote:
But that's gonna leave some/alot/none whatever people questioning what it is their sub pays for excatly. And don't say the nonsense about the people pay to access a server no one in their right mind would pay a sub for a game that isn't upgraded for free.
That would only have a point if I19 was ONLY stuff for GR. I doubt it will be.

    Quote:
So basically they are selling an expansion but cut it into pieces(not unlike free updates) and it could make people think it's a money grab, thus the mass exodus.
Again, I don't see it as any different than owning either CoH or CoV before the merge.

    Quote:
That was a mouthful and hard to word just right.
I understood it, so ya done good there.

    MT_Head has choices:

Thanks guys. More than likely I was going to go to Guardian or freedom, which ever has a better player base and start some new toons anyway.
If by better, you mean more, then Freedom would be the choice.

If by better you mean which you would like better, that may take a bit more investigation.
  12. Quote:
    Dechs Kaison piles it on:

I say do all three. Play the 38 on occasion, start a new hero, and start a new villain.

And maybe a new hero and another new villain.

    Then another new hero...

A man after my own heart...

Then go buy ten more slots for that server and do it all over again!
  13. Now, now, this is alt-friendly central. No reason he can't do both (or was that what you were suggesting?).
  14. I...saw something I shouldn't have and am not talking. Feel free to be encouraged, though.

    **wanders off whistling nonchalantly**
  15. So you're defining "heroic" as the "cape and tights set"? Kind of a Silver/Bronze Age feel?

Frankly, those kinds of things, IMHO, shouldn't be a booster, but just free adds.
  16. Be prepared to feel like something's missing for a little bit. It took me a week or so to get used to my MA/SR not having the silly glowie things around him.

    Shadow Wail goes for doooooooom:

I for one rather see incarnate plus incarnate content in a free issue rather than an expansion so if they try to pull the "GR customers only in I19 there will be a mass exodus since i18 will come out around DCUO and since its the best time for them to do so at NYC Comic Con I want to say that i19 might come out right after it in October.
Why would Incarnates being GR only trigger a mass exodus? It always was GR only. Or am I reading what you're saying wrong?

    Johnny_Butane never changes:

Actually, they listened to a select group of players they handpicked.
They didn't let the community as a whole have a chance to give feedback.
Thanks very much. I'm pretty sure most of us already understand the concept of a closed beta.

    Quote:
Again, I ask: The devs have had no problems in the past with undesirable, "limited use" powers players don't like. Group Fly, Hand Clap, Whirlwind, Flurry, Temperature Protection, etc. Why the sudden desire to listen to players now, and have powers that are cool and fun?
Hmmmm...a handful of looooong standing powers some players don't like (I'm a fan of Whirlwind on the right character, just to note) vs. a new system that they're partially making people pay extra for. Yeah, no difference there at all.

    Quote:
After six years they should have a pretty good idea of what player expectations and desires are. That should have given them a clear picture of how players would react to the Alpha slot they put up on test long before it even got off the white board stage. Way before Posi formed his little 'strike team', players have been very vocal about what they expected from Inccarnates. The feedback the devs got on Test shouldn't have been surprising and their initial design shouldn't have been so far off the mark.
No battle plan survives the first encounter.

    Quote:
Therefore, I'm forced to conclude the devs never really intended to release the Alpha slot with GR because they expected it to get the thumbs down and knew that would give them an excuse to "push it back" to when they intended to release it all along. They just used the Alpha tease as a lure to get money up front from people who otherwise would have passed on GR until the late Fall or whenever they shove out i19.
Yes, I'm sure it's a big conspiracy. They're known for pulling tricks on us.

This post brought to you by Sarcasm 'R' Us.
  19. Translation: Your theme is entirely too vague and as is is unworkable (to say nothing of your grammar). May we have some details as to what you think "heroic" looks like?
  20. Quote:
    Dragon_Feeder needs context:

You don't want to set your difficulty lower because "it's too lame", yet you cannot survive your current settings.
What's more important, having fun and not dying all the time, or what other people might think of you if they even care enough to check your settings?
I think it's more a concern that what's happening to him isn't normal. The game's balanced around the default setting. He shouldn't be having problems there, especially with vet powers.

    Shadow Wail promotes me:

At least one dev cares for Toxic Blast!
In my case, the "dev" probably stands for "deviant".
  22. Yup. Here's more letter related names and what they do.
  23. It's really hard to say (and, yes, the doom comment wasn't aimed at you...we're just talkin'). Things fluctuate a lot due to many and various reasons and we've hit quite a doldrums area here before GR hits. Like the usual pre-issue lull except amped up. Heck, a bunch of my SG-mates went "missing" for quite a while when STO hit, with promises that they were coming back for GR. Populations jump up and down and it's often difficult to sort out who's really gone and who's just taking a break until The Next Big Thing.
  24. Quote:
Shadow Wail should be careful what he asks for:

Again, All I want is Toxic Blast...
Hang on. Let me eat this rancid meat and drink this sour milk first.

    Urp...

I was thinking that myself the other day, there's a certain person who always makes her post sound like she is a dev ghostwriting!
Ha! No, don't go there. I, myself, have several times faced such an accusation (I wish!). Some of us are just unflappable that way.
