No, it's just a sign that you're a genuinely nice person who wouldn't think to pervert a compliment into an insult.

    Or something like that.

It is "Good Game." It's the bad guy telling you he's won already.

The context is telling someone "good game" before the game is actually over. It's an insult. "I've already won."

    Purple sets?

My last edit is the same time you posted your message. I have this nasty habit of editing posts after making them. I added some stuff which may also help, just want to make sure you see it.

    Purple sets?

Purple sets don't really help tanks.

In general, the things tanks look for are more defense, not more recharge. Purple sets most notably give you recharge.

EDIT: Actually, from what I noticed, there are two major trends in slotting bonuses. One trend focuses on adding survivability to your character. These people typically get defense bonuses, but there are other goals such as +HP and +regen. The other focuses on maximizing damage output. The most common goal here is recharge, but also damage bonuses and recovery to sustain high endurance cost attack chains.

Where I'm going with this is that tanks aren't big damage dealers to begin with, so if your goal from the start was damage, you'd be playing a brute or a scrapper. Most tanks are going to go the other way and get defense/HP/regen.

The only exception here is Warshades, who get their survivability from recharge.
  6. Talk about a let down:

I've been soloing Crimson's arc for a while now on +0/x8 to get my Moneywrencher badge and to spawn Kronos for his badge. I'd heard about Kronos, but never really fought it. I did once, but I caught the tail end of it. There were already 3 teams in the fight when I got there. People talked about it in a "OMG teamwipe Kronos ambushed and killed us all!" It sounded like something that might test my build.

Last night I got both badges (from the same mission, even) and had Kronos chasing me around Kings Row for a bit. Obviously, I knew that I couldn't kill it myself, but I wanted a chance to stand toe to toe with the thing for a few before everyone and their rad showed up.

Serious let down, Malta. I didn't even get to use my heal.
  7. So an SG mate of mine makes an AE arc he calls "The Proving Grounds" and the SG goes through it while I'm not around. It was full of custom mobs meant to be very difficult. The guys were talking about these enemies for weeks. Made it sound like the gorram bogeyman. I, being one of the few min/maxers in the SG, and figuring he just made ungodly tough scrappers out of the lot said "How bad can it be?"

I claimed I could do it on +0/x8. I had a warshade. It's got some purples. I've got perma eclipse. What can happen when I've got 85% resist all, capped damage, and mez protection when I need it?

Apparently, a whole lot of nothing happens when you're sapped dry of endurance and debuffed to hell and back. The minions had radiation emission and radiation blast. There were force fielding/elec lieutenants. Grav/kin bosses. Everything on extreme.

I have never felt so humbled.

Everyone knows a full team of defenders is one of the most powerful things in this game. Well, I had just experienced what the devs did when the RO got together for the first time.

With Malta, it's understandable. They're solely high level content. The PPD Ghosts are hitting us while we're still learning to shoot.

Well you know how it is. First you speak out against Tyrant, then you vandalize posters, then you destroy property of anyone not opposed to Tyrant, then you go full blown terrorist.

He has to stop the cycle somewhere.

    Let me doublecheck...

Nope, I'm none of the above. We're still good.

Call it selfish if you like. I'm here to survive.

If your idea of freedom is being able to steal from your neighbors, I'm happy the "tyrant" has stomped your freedoms to smithereens.

  19. Instead, I ask: Why make a brute when you could make a tanker?

A tanker will always be more survivable than a brute. If you want to tank, then it's a no brainer. One is numerically superior to the other.

The answer to the OP's question is simply "What do you want to do?"

Do you want to scrap? Or do you want to brute?
  20. I consider Brutes as "That AT that needs team support to be as tough as my tanker."

This has nothing to do with other people's brutes. This has everything to do with my inability to play a brute efficiently. I don't know what it is. I cannot for the life of me get a brute to high levels.
  21. I'm going loyalist. Paid better, fed better, live in the air conditioning. I'll take perfect but a little less free over living in hiding, scrounging for food, in fear for my life with the resistance.

    It's the 6k.

He's willing to pay more for the item, and the market fairies want more of a commission, so they make sure they get their cut from 6k before they take the smaller cut from 5k.

Yeah, I said I tanked it, not soloed it. I also had fortitude on me so the cascade failures didn't happen before the groups were dead. There was one point where the romans got a few lucky shots close together and I had a really close call. Was down below 10% health for sure, healed myself to full, freaked the empath out, popped [Eye of the Magus] and kept on going. What helped most is the fact that I still had 70% resist after my defenses were gone.

Oh, and we only did the first mission on +4. Like I said, it was an accident.

Sure, it is overkill. Dark Armor is survivable on SOs with only the defense from Cloak of Darkness (add weave and CJ/hover to taste), mostly due to relying on the heal. As I finished my build, I noticed using the heal much less often. Nowadays, I go through most TFs (notably not the ITF or STF) these days without ever firing Dark Regeneration.

Did I need all that defense to be able to main tank TFs? No.

Is it really nice to not rely on the heal? Yes.

Can I do stupidly difficult and mostly pointless things that tanks shouldn't be able to do? Depends. Do you count herding six DE monsters at a time indefinitely, holding the aggro of four AVs and Reichsman indefinitely, and the things in my video as stupidly difficult?

    Donna_,

I'm at work right now, so I can't open up mids. I'll try to remember to come back to this topic when I get home.

Defense will help alot against the purple mobs, but I generally don't face purples very often.

Of course my build is hp capped and regen's 65 hp/sec with no RTTC.
Purples don't get tohit until they're +6. They do get very high accuracy modifiers though. You are correct though, that the more defense you have, the less these modifiers help the enemy. For more info, see the softcap guide in my sig.

I certainly agree that HP cap is important (easiest to achieve with all the accolades first). I wouldn't focus much on +regen. When you have 120 hp/sec or more with RttC running, 10 hp/sec more from accolades isn't going to make much of a difference.

Try to remember that layered mitigation has a multiplicative effect, and is why my DA tank is so survivable. He has a high resists, softcapped defense, and a huge heal. A lot of stuff misses. The stuff that hits gets resisted. The remaining damage that piddles through gets healed.
