Quote:Ooooh, this. Nothing wrong with relying on purples/greens/blues to keep you going. They drop often enough, and if you've got a full tray, just delete the wakies and eat all the yellows at once.Stick with the character you have.
Press F1-F2-F3-F4-F5 more often.
Unless you're doing a video that, for example, is intended to prove that Dark Armor does not suck. -
You could just re-roll him.
Get a solo base for storage, buy up ... what... 5 respecs? Strip him down and start over. That's gotta be cheaper than buying all the IOs over again.
Think about all the pros: You'll get all your vetspecs back, and you'll have a better character, and you'll have a taunt aura. -
I know that! I was just poking fun at how many posts of his I've seen where he claimed the brute version would be better. Like this one.
Quote:Nope. Got the brute on virtue to the 20s and gave up on him.
He was going to be far too superior in every way.
To the OP, you should seriously consider a claws/dark brute. There is huge potential there.
Quote:Ok..I see the boon of recovery auras, and the two AOE's of Psy Scream and Psy Tornado, but other than that, whats the catch? Wouldn't it take you forever to even start hurting +4's.
It's amazing what a level 54 Imperious can do with powerboosted fortitude and AB. -

Yeah, I'm Fire Melee without build up or a third AoE. That build was just for tanking.
Perhaps SS would be better. The rage will increase the output of Death Shroud, and footstomp is goodly damage and mitigation. You could add Fireball from the epic, or Gloom and Dark Oblit if you're willing to crossover. -
Quote:Stalkers only out damage scrappers on a full team with everyone in range, and even then, I'd have to do the math to prove it. Right now, I just think it's close. You state that stalkers may out damage scrappers, but then you say even if that is true, it doesn't matter because scrapper base damage is higher. That is kind of a goofy thing to say. If stalkers out damage scrappers thanks to the higher crit rate in combination with some guaranteed crits, then the fact that the scrapper AT mod is a bit higher is irrelevant.
Base, however, with no teammates, stalkers cannot match scrappers. -
Try Dark Armor.

Quote:Except that stalkers have a lower damage modifier than scrappers. Outside of AS, every stalker attack does less damage than the same attack done by a scrapper. This means damage buffs have more of an effect on scrappers and their crits hit harder. The damage output of stalkers looks very good to me. The only reason I would think of scrappers or brutes as outdoing stalkers is due to AoE damage on top of aggro control.
Crit rate is another beast entirely, and with a full team stalkers will crit much more often. I'd have to do a bit of math on it, but we may determine that stalkers average more damage because of the increased crit chance.
That doesn't mean anything, though, because at the base, scrappers win for damage. Considering that stalkers lack the survivability of scrappers, that should not be the case. We just witnessed this with the brute adjustment. Scrappers are less survivable than brutes, so the scales were adjusted to be sure that scrappers are better in terms of damage. It's time we revisit stalkers, and up the damage modifier. -
Quote:A quick word on this, as GuyPerfect seems to know what he's doing and I want to back him up. Dave, there is a very large difference between a tank that disregards his damage output and one who simply doesn't optimize it.Optimizing damage on a Tanker is like building a bungee cord out of condoms: technically feasible, but why bother with it if it's not even what it's designed for?
A tank who builds to optimize damage will be a decent solo player, but should probably have rolled a brute or scrapper for better results. He will also bring very little to a team, considering he has likely sacrificed the survivability necessary to handle a full team's aggro, and would be better off as a brute or scrapper that at least deals respectable damage.
A tank who disregards his damage output will be a waste of a team spot, as he contributes little and will have trouble holding aggro, especially if there are taunt aura'd scrappers around.
Maybe GuyPerfect doesn't have the recharge for a seamless attack chain. In that case, any attack is better than no attack, GIS included. GIS will certainly be better that cycling brawl or boxing. -
Quote:Personally, I don't find the demoralize useful unless I'm solo on my own stalker. I hardly ever notice its effects with another stalker on the team.Teams care about mitigation. Especially early fight mitigation, where most of the danger lies. Damage is not all teams care about. Teams like Radiation Infection and Enervating Field. I doubt they would like them as much if they were not AoEs. When AS was just single target damage, it was a nice gimmick, but hardly useful on teams. The demoralize effect, IMO, is a large benefit to teams and I have not found anyone who disagrees with that (it does not seem like you disagree, although it does seem like you are trying to say that no one else would think demoralize is useful).
Likewise with Radiation Infection and Enervating Field. They just don't do much in most cases (in high level play), until you get to the AV. The debuffs just don't stick around long enough to matter otherwise.
Quote:I understand your words fine, you seem to have trouble understanding yourself or deciding what it is you want to say (or maybe your are simply thinking more stuff in your head and failing to type it).
Early on in the thread your position was that stalkers lack AoE, saying, "the vast majority of stalker melee sets have zero ability to damage multiple targets at a time." Now that it has been pointed out you were mistaken, you are changing your meaning.
My first experience with a stalker was claws, which I did not level high enough to get shockwave. The lack of any AoE capability ultimately caused me to delete the character. I have tried several other combinations, but the next one to stick was elec stalker, which leaves me with a happy medium of single target and AoE damage.
I apologize for the harsh comment about not understanding me. That was a bit out of line.
Quote:It is a good thing that you want to alter your position now that you can see you were in error. It is not a good thing that you claim I failed to understand you, especially since one can simply go back and read what you wrote and see how much different it is from your current position.
I stated, and will continue to state, that stalkers are undervalued on teams. The primary factor for this is the single target focus of the stalker AT. Apples to apples, a comparable scrapper will put out more consistent AoE damage (as well as be a bit tougher), which is more valued to most teams than the utility of demoralize and some spike damage.
I was wrong to state that so many sets lacked any AoE. This much I have admitted. The fact remains that, regardless of powerset, the stalker will be more single target focused.
Quote:Whatever happens, if anything changes, I hope it does not end up being just add more damage, as that is the least interesting of adjustments, IMO.
I do feel that stalkers need to do more damage. Simply put, there is a scale right now. As the AT loses toughness from tank to scrapper, the damage increases. Stalkers are the outlier, in that they have less mitigation than scrappers, but not a clear cut advantage in damage output.
If the damage of stalkers was better than scrappers, then the lack of AoE could be overlooked. -
Dark Armor Sucks!
Not really.
See sig. -
Quote:Very no. GFS does not compare to GIS. The damage values are very different.... :/
So you're telling me Greater Fire Sword is useless?
Numbers:
GIS: 87.2 damage
GFS: 144.15 damage (Average, the DoT is 80%)
Same cast time, so the DPA for GFS is much higher, making it a worthwhile attack. -
Quote:I offer the same advice to you.You should really stop typing as if you know what you are talking about.
Quote:We will start with MA. True, scrappers get one AoE attack that stalkers do not get. OTOH, stalkers get the AoE debuff/control of Demoralize.
Quote:ElM is where you just typed stuff because you really want to believe you are right without actually looking at the facts. This is the second post where I had to point that out to you, so I want to make sure it is emphasized (I am trying to show you that your broad generalizations and beliefs about the AT are mistaken and that you need to reassess your position by actually looking at the state of the AT as it exists now and with all the powerset options that exist now, as opposed to the history of the AT). Now onto the facts. ElM for stalkers has ALL of the damage AoEs that ElM for scrappers, tankers, and brutes get. Stalkers lost Lightning Clap (much to my personal sadness, but I admit I am likely in the minority here), an AoE control. Stalkers gain Demoralize, an AoE control/debuff. Stalker ElM can be just as AoE focused as all the other ElM.
The stalker, despite being elec melee, is still more single target focused than the elec scrapper. -

Quote:Ok, you'll do that once. It's a cone that hits how many people? Then, on the next spawn or maybe the one after that, you'll be ready to do it again. Good for you. When someone says I'm Single target focused, I'll go pop BU > 1kcuts from hide and laugh (probably because no other melee could accomplish this with their Dual Blades, which is apparently so much better).
The DB scrapper has a constant damage buff from stacked Blinding Feint, flinging out more AoE damage on more targets than your DB stalker could ever dream of.
Oh yeah, and your Attack Vitals combo is only single target. -
-
Why do you think I'm trying to invalidate an AT? I'm saying when it comes to dealing damage, no one says "Oh, we need a tanker for that." Brute EM, by contrast, is quite rare.
Quote:That's just another misconception. But if a stalker is single target focused, how can one have more AoEs than certain other melees? An EM Brute vs a Dual Blades Stalker has 1 *more* AoE than the brute. A MA Scrapper vs a Spines Stalker has 2 more AoEs than the scrapper. If the misconception is Stalkers are single target focused, there would be no situation where a Stalker has any or more AoEs than any other melee.
When comparing survivability between ATs, you don't say a shield scrapper is more survivable than an EA brute, so obviously all scrappers are tougher than brutes. You're smarter than that, I think, so why do you try this argument with stalkers?
Quote:Oh, what's that, in-game numbers? For Whirling Hands and Whirling Axe, they deal 41.7 dmg on the same radius and number of enemies? What's that about Whirling Mace? It deals an extra 5 dmg points? (some CoD links there too, incidentally, the damage of those attacks are about as much as a tier1 attack...exactly, in fact).
You're taking this awfully personal, considering that I have stated I don't have any problem with stalkers. They're single target focused, which I do not think is a detriment, but the fact remains that most people do not desire them on a team because of this focus. They would rather have the comparable scrapper that does more AoE. Again, these are facts that cannot be argued. -
It is my understanding that the powers are added to your inherent list at level 2, much like rest and walk. No choice; they just show up.
Of course, this only counts for new characters. Any character made now has to respec in order to gain them. -
Quote:You know what's disgusting? Inherent fitness is going to allow me to get Oppressive Gloom in the build, which won't require additional slots to be effective. And Build Up, which won't need additional slots. And Quicksand, an AoE -def debuff that doesn't need slots to be permanent.I saw that video when you posted it, and you've got some crazy-style Defense in that build, considering Dark Armor doesn't give you much to begin with (being a Resistance-based set). Due to the exotic nature of Dark's resistances, getting it softcapped is going to make it perhaps the #1 sturdiest build in the game.
The stuff in my video just got trivial. -

Quote:He's not a moron, he's a bonus pet that doesn't follow orders and talks without /petsay, an unfortunate bug in the AI.To the OP - you are not a jerk. This is a game, and everyone has their own play style. I only team my MM with groups and individuals I already know. My PUG days for my MM's ended the day someone referred to me as "a Defender with controllable pets".

Quote:You need 12. Even then you'll still get knocked around by things like a few AVs.I would skip it to get rid of a toggle. 8 pts of kb is all that is necessary for pve right? just put 2 steadfasts in there somewhere. or a steadfast and a zephyr
Anything that beats 4 points will also beat 8. -
Or in Dark Armor's case, another KB protection.
