Quote:Well, I just hit the submit button on my computer...fingers crossed..hope I can change the power supply later...True, am deciding if I should just wait to order a new pc vs. ordering now with whatever gpu card comes with it (with end of year deals/rebates) or hold off and hope price for processor goes down anyway (looking at an i5-750), assuming i will need to upgrade later and replace power supply or just wait on everything. Haven't purchased a PC in 6 years and the options and changes are staggering (who would have thought I'd pay almost as much for the GPU as the main server itself)

Quote:When do we expect to get numbers on the Radeon 57xx and 58xx (and even the lower end models?)After demoing the Ultra-mode at HeroCon, one of the most frequently asked questions we have been receiving is what are the video cards you recommend to get the most out of Ultra-mode? With the holiday season coming up, we asked the programmers in charge of implementing the features of Ultra-mode what they would recommend. We would like to forward this information on to you so you can better work on your holiday shopping lists.
If you are looking to spend under US$100, then an NVidia 9800 GT is your best bet. For AMD (ATI/Radeon), we dont have enough of these cards at this price point to get you good data. This would be the minimum card for enabling all the features, only at reduced quality settings.
If you are looking to spend between $100 and $200, the Radeon HD 4890 and GeForce GTX 260 will do you well. We dont have numbers from the Radeon 57xx series yet to verify if that is better or worse though. This would end up somewhere in the middle of Ultra-mode quality.
Finally if you are going to spend over $200, the GeForce GTX 285 is an excellent choice. We dont have numbers from the Radeon 58xx series yet. This would be able to run Ultra-mode with the quality maxed out (except we have no data on Anti-aliasing, so caveat emptor when it comes to that specific feature).
Note: This is based on our current internal testing and might change by the time Going Rogue is released. Also, a video card is not the ONLY thing you should take into consideration. Your PC having a decent processor and memory will also enhance your performance. As we continue to test and get more information available we will update you. I hope this helps, and happy holidays! -
Just got off the phone with them again, its a bit frustrating; can't seem to get a straight answer beyond the fact that they want me to buy the PC first and then they will send me the specs for new graphic cards and power supplies. From the cards specified above, it seems that we still have no data on the 5770 am not sure what to do. I know their sales are going away at the 1st of the year... their customer service is polite but totally unknowledgeable

Quote:Yeah, am ordering from the HP but they don't allow the power supply to be specified...so will probably have to buy the power supply like you said afterwards. Would any power supply fit? Most computers you buy "off the shelf" (i.e., that aren't custom-made to your specs) don't have power supplies like that. If you're custom-ordering one, you should be able to specify what parts you want in it, including the power supply. If you're buying one already put together you'd just need to purchase a better power supply and install it before installing a high-end video card.

Quote:As someone who just purchased 5 more slots for $19.99, I have to agree that I would like to see them do something about the the 75% rule for custom. In telling a story, and keeping it interesting, it tends to be a mix of custom and standard mobs though I have some arcs that are all custom. Now I do include the minion, LT, and boss ranks to hopefully get closer to normal xp, and as someone else stated earlier, some of my mobs tend to be tougher than standard minions for example. So I for one would like to see them more adequately address how to resolve the 75% issue. Also news missions, though they are shorter and give less reward per mission they give more over time due to not having to find those hidden doors hidden in perez park, and not having to switch zones.
Its not whining, if players never speak up, things never get changed, 75% for custom mobs is a stupid and unneeded change that needs to be fixed, if they intend MA to be used for anything other than farming. -
Anything to do with space would be nice..I guess those in the shadow shard would be cool
-
I use both battles and patrols in my missions to add more action. However, if I have an enemy group in a battle (battling my guys for example), then a patrol from that same enemy group, at times they kill each other though from the same group, or it happens with the battle that the main group (main enemy group listed in first part of mission) will fight the battle contestants if they run into them, again, even if both are the same enemy group.
How do we correct that? -
There is one, I used it in the 1st mission of my 2nd arc (46711)..its pretty cool actually with a cave leading into the sub base (though in the AE, the subs don't exist)
-
I agree, Terra Volta has some possibilities with a finale in the reactor room

I'm looking as well for a new pc and put my order on hold when i found out about the power requiremnts; I am concerned that it won't have the power for some of the high-end cards; but with those cards, I have not seen desktops that boast 500 or 700W so how would one accomplish that?
-
I just spent like 3 days working on a new story (3 mishs), so I still use it alot but probably more so as a creative outlet. I still think the original purpose has so much potential that most are overlooking in their deference to purely farming. In the beginning, you really wanted people to play your arcs, and of course, still do, but the reality seems to be that its a minority that will play for the different types of missions out there vs. just for farms it seems.

Anyone else having trouble connecting?

Am looking at buying an HP Pavilion p6280t customizable Desktop PC;
# Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Quad processor Q8300 [2.5GHz, 4MB L2, 1333MHz FSB]
# 6GB DDR2-800MHz SDRAM [3 DIMMs]
# FREE UPGRADE! 640GB 7200 rpm SATA 3Gb/s hard drive from 500GB
# Integrated graphics (Intel(R) Media Accelerator 3100) [VGA]
Then, I wanted to buy a card separately, and to be honest, my head is spinning over Tom's hardware reviews and others I've read. From reading all of the posts here, I'm settled on going with ATI/AMD graphic card, but just not sure which one and more importantly, could my new box handle a crossfire configuration if necessary?
Also, I don't want to go broke, and was looking at the 4000 series from ATI, but now the 5000 series is out (lol like a previous post said, there's always something new), and just wanted to be sure that the card I buy will allow me to play Aion, and Coh GR (my current PC is 6 years old..got it when I first got CoX!).
Any help is greatly appreciated! -
Same here, just installed it yesterday and I don't remember it asking me for a particular game I was going to use it for. Also, I seem to get snippets here and there recorded but not the full time I'm logged on.
In addition, is it really necessary to exit the CoH game client just for the video to show up? Seems time consuming/wasteful to have to keep exiting just to see if it recorded it or not. -
How do you record gameplay into a video file that you can, for example, upload to youtube?
-
Damn that's just simply amazing!!! are there any rumours that we will have space regions?
-
LOL same, my computer is going on six years old; bought it initially to start playing CoH, but am definitely going to get a new one now!

I've been trolling through the various forums talking about DC Universe Online and Champions Online and in general, was wondering how to keep "our" game competitive and in fact, attract more subscribers given the more crowded playing field. I looked at the Going Rogue trailer on Youtube and it looks great, but I keep hearing that the graphics engine (originally cryptic?) is old and can't compete with the other games. But in going Rogue, looked like we have some new graphic enhancements, so was wondering, if GR has a new graphic engine and if not, are the updates for GR sufficient we think to compete with the others?
Thx!
p.s. 5 years+ and going, would like to see at least 10+ and beyond! -
Quote:Totally agree here, I have lvl 50 tanks including fire/axe, invul/energy melee, and willpower/superstrength and they all were quite weak in the lower levels (and well, my fire tank is still not that durable). I think having fire as your secondary is a good choice to generate some damage. Playing an invulnerability tank is a great deal of fun as it really allows you to take on a good number of mobs; I did include Aid Self later in the pool powers to help while my dull pain was recharging, however with IOs (I don't have any) you might be able to slot it so that it recharges pretty quickly.Welcome to the game.
The advice given above is excellent, of course.
I appreciate your concern that a tanker should taunt, I won't suggest you go tauntless (I have both types) but I do almost always recommend delaying taunt a bit.
Low level tanks are not bad, but other than good hit points, are not as survivable as you might assume. It's probably best to rely on gauntlet to pick up its share of aggro until you can handle more attention.
At early levels on a team, either you'll be fighting reasonable sized mobs that gauntlet would probably do good enough on (when Taunt would be overkill) or you are fighting unreasonably sized mobs that will get you killed fast, and then the team would have no tank. In those cases, it's best for the team to deal with excess aggro that a living tank isn't grabbing, vs. all the aggro that the dead tank isn't grabbing.
Once you get some hardened defenses and resistances, then choosing to take taunt is not a bad choice. I'm not saying delaying taunt into the 30s or something (although... it's interesting to do that...) just don't feel that you need it immediately.
Welcome to the game and have fun! Been 5 years and counting for me and still love it! -
Thanks to you all for your responses; I would like to use one but I agree with the comment not to use them as an objective, otherwise this mission will never end..thx!!
-
Want to use one of the DE monsters in a story, however, is there any way to reduce its defense/power? Usually takes quite a bit of time to take them down, so wanted to see if there was a way to adjust even though they are standard characters..
-
Quote:dumb question but i have to ask: can you nominate your own? LOL would help if i read the quoted post..ok, ignore this one!Players can post arcs they think should be considered for Dev’s Choice in this thread.
Please note, you cannot promote your own arc and you can’t disagree with anyone else’s suggestion.
Additionally, you may suggest several arcs in your post as long as you provide all necessary details to allow us to find them easily. -
I must admit that, being around since the beginning (missed the initial rikti invasion though), I was starting to get bored and thought of suspending my account (would never leave, love my toons :-) . But, with AE, I got addicted (again), to the ability to create new content, I was amazed; was on vacation for a week and spent 3 of the 5 days working on content.
Now it is true that I have seen so many stories that are farms still ("Get them!", "Stop them" - real descriptive titles lol ), but I still do see new content being added that is rich, creative and gives me something to strive for in creating my own.
I agree that there is a lot of farming and like an earlier post said, not sure you will ever be able to get rid of all of them. It was funny, got in a mish yesterday, and the lead toon said, "ok, lets find a mission", I was like "but we ARE in a mission", then I hit the old exit, definitely a level 40+ toon that came up the easy way. But all in all, AE is a godsend, and while it does allow for anyone to use it any way they like, if you are looking for new unique content, and choose to use it that way, then its great!
