  1. Awesomeness, Henri!
Yeah, arms and aspecially hands are particulary tricky! I know all about it!
You did quite nice though! Something is still off on the arm that holds the bow, but otherwise: "Artistic skills improved by 1 point"

I love the colour combinations you used. And how the red arrowpoint reflects in the cape and the arrow holder! Well done, well done indeed!

  2. As for more CoX related art... just worked some more on Saira again.

Now it's time for pizza and some Harry Potter (...again...)! *giggles*
  3. Thanks!

In the mean time I finished it! And I managed to not break my fingers *giggles*.
  4. Woah.... I now have total respect for people who draw ringmail armor (assuming that they, like me, are not using some kind of brush for it)
For practice (on hair, teeth, shading aswell as metal) I'm working on a (non-CoH related) portrait of a character that wears ringmail.
Luckily I chose a reference in which most of the ringmail is hidden, but there's still ringmail to be painted.

Like I said, I have a reference...but it's too blurry to figure the rings out exactly, aspecially when there's a bunch together.
Personally I'm amazed I got this far! Now fingers are cramped up *giggles*, so I'll work on it some more tomorrow. It's really good practice and the portrait is coming along quite nice, I think. Oh well.. you'll see it on DA once it's finished
I just wanted to share the first ringmail armor I ever painted.

Hahah, I thought that would happen to me too, but turns out loads of artist actually didn't follow any course and know nothing about "official" terms 'n stuff (like me)

Hah, yeah I read that you use Sai on DA just after posting the feedback post. I never used it... or seen it, I think *giggles*.
But getting Photoshop is awesome! Well done! . I use Paint Shop Pro myself, but the basics are the same *nods*. Sure beats Microsoft Paint!

    Any time!
That does remind me.. you may want to check out a couple of parts on the forums that might be interesting to you.
First one: Tips and tricks on how to do things <-- can come in very handy!
And the second: collab central!, a place where you can practice your skills together with others, or where you can put up some art for others to work on. <-- fun!
It has been a bit quiet lately in the collab thread...but every now and then there's new stuff added

No specific brushes, no... Just one tool: Smudge!!
In Paint shop pro it's called the smudge tool (I expect it's the same in Photoshop though).
Basically I paint on the shades (or lights) (always have the hardness of the brush on 0) and smudge them wildly, mingling them with the rest of the colours untill I get what I want (or get close enough ).
This might give you an idea:
    .
Mostly I start with the dark shades and when that's done (for the whole section in that colour) I go on with the light. Do have to say.. it often takes me hours and hours of smudging to get to the point where I'm satisfied (but I'm quite picky).
I know many artists use layers to do the shading and smudging on (not sure if Sai works with layers, if you have no clue of what I'm saying...well.. I bet photoshop will tell you soon enough ).
Anyhow, I do use layers, but usually only in the beginning.
When it comes to smudging I have just one image on one layer, because I want the colours to mingle. Though I keep the sketch on another layer for reference. (sketching and colouring I do on 2 different layers)
You'll find out what you're comfortable with at some point *nods*.
There are many ways to get something done in the digital world!

Hereby lesson 2 ends! Now, get to work! *giggles*
  6. Definitely fan art! *nods*
Awesome work! I love the pattern, the colours the concept.... All VIPs should have one!

And yes.... Dare to the hat! *giggles*
  7. Hahaha! That is an aweful typo indeed! But funny too!

    Congratz Henri! *cheers happily*
I can't wait to see how this turns out either!

    Feedback it is!

First... welcome to the life of an artist!

I'm wondering, what tools and programs do you use for (digital) drawing?

Now... feedback! Welcome to lesson one where we will discuss.... hair! *giggles*

You mentioned you wished the hair didn't look so flat when you draw it.
It appears that you are tempted to draw hair as close to the skull as possible, which makes it look flat because volume is missing. (don't worry, it's quite common to do so, it took me long enough to figure the hair out )
Try to make more round lines around the head. That should bring some volume into the hair.
Also try to imagine where the hair is going and add shades where the hair is falling to the back.
(I really don't know how to explain this...so let me take your drawing of Dee as an example. Take a look at the piccie and look for the shades along jaw lines, I also added some round lines for the volume). This brings more depth into the hair which also helps to unflatten it.

I also want to mention (I don't know if you do or don't) that using references is very helpful and nothing to be ashamed of!
(oddly some artists think it is and some find using references is cheating (unless you're directly painting over them), it really isn't! Well... that's my opinion anyway .

I hope my feedback helps! If you have questions...please, fire away!

I do like! She looks so relaxed!
Thank you so much for drawing her!

Hair is quite a pain to draw indeed! I suffer from that way more than I want way too often *giggles*.
If you want, I could maybe give feedback? Getting that from other artists helped me SOOOO much! And it still does!
  10. That's an honorable idea Limedolly!
Here are some refs to my main female character, Darth Delicious (DeeDee), a Archer/Fire based blaster.

(for the record, the gloves should be black, the are pink in some piccies..but they supposed to be black )

So.. no... nope... I don't mind! Not at all and not one bit!

    Heh... here's my "Sylly" portrait..

Just a quick doodle really. Don't feel like spending a lot of time drawing myself

But to make up for it... I'll place the portraits of my main (and thereby favourite) CoH chars here too

  13. As men are my forte... (so to say) you can savely asume from me he looks very much fine
  14. Okay, apparantly I'm missing something..but I have had more feedback saying Mike looks quite feminine....sooooo I took another look...still didn't see it though, since I didn't know what to do I asked a friend for feedback (she's an artist herself ) and she mentioned that maybe the cheekbones could be less soft.
    So... does this help then?

    Before and after:
  15. Thanks!

@Neko; Because Mike shaved before posing? *giggles*
I thought about adding some facial hair on him, giving him a slight unshaved (and because of that a more manly) look, but I haven't figured out how to do that exactly just yet.
So for now, Mike will remain smoothly shaved :P, which makes him look much younger than he actually is. Personally I don't mind though. I think he looks rather handsome *nods*.
  16. Aaaaaaand done! Atleast, I think I am .

If people wanna see WIP stages, I can provide those aswell.

You're on a roll Hornet! Awesome stuff!
  18. So I figured I'd bore you with another update!

Worked on Mike a bit more. Started shading his suit, finished his hair. Still loads to do though. Didn't touch his nose... as well..basically, I like it this way . Everytime I tried "moving" the nose, even slightly, I just went... "nah" and put it back.
Also did a few light corrections on Dee after some feedback .

"Talk to the hand" Yes.. I can imagine her saying that hehe.
Or.... by the look on her face...she could also be a bit annoyed about a newbie asking for directions? *giggles*

Also Miss Impossible is looking utterly relaxed!
    Awesome work!
