The Twitter discussion of this topic is unreal...
Well... a little exorcise never hurt anyone... *smirks*
Besides, I think Numina is quite thin enough...
NOt to say that Posi has a ghost of a chance with her, either. >.>
That's the spirit!
As an aside, think of all the PosiNumi or NumiPosi comments that would result...
YAY! new slash fic!!! NumaNumaPosI CHU CHU!!!!
Were either GW or Numi married before? Can see a potential copywight issues.

Quote:That's true, BB.I could see Posi going for Doc Delilah too except for the fact they are in totally different fields and given that Doc isn't an active super hero these days, the chances of them interacting now are slim and none.
Me, I think Doc would definitely be interested in Statesman ... not because of his power, but because he's a link to living history. He was an adolescent in the last half of the 19th Century, fought in World War I, was there at the dawn of the new super hero age, participated in World War II AND was a leader in the First Rikti War.
For someone as interested in history as Doc is, that'd make him nigh irresistable.
I think Statesman WOULD be able to look beyond Doc's obvious assets, but I'm not sure if she's his type otherwise.
Okay, who WOULD you pair Positron with?
(And if I weren't writing THE COURSE OF SUPERHERO ROMANCE, I'd be another vote for the Synapse/Positron HLP thing.)

Quote:Deal - if I'm not there, GG, I leave it to you to get to the bottom of this. They're more likely to answer you about this one, anyway. For the next live chat on UStream, we need to ask them about this - NPC relationships are a vital part of the game
Of course, for Diabolique, being a Praetorian means that either would be totally ok.
As for Diabolique and Tommy Arcanus, well...
Quote:Tammy Arcanus was born with great Magical powers on Praetorian Earth, just like she was on Primal Earth. Unfortunately they manifested very differently. As she reached adolescence she began exploring her powers before she was trained. She used astral projection to cast her spirit forth. So intoxicated was she by the new wonders that she was discovering she returned to her body too late to link with it. She watched helplessly as it withered and died without a spirit. Tammy's father tried to save her but he was too late to manage anything other than keeping her spirit bound to Earth. For his trouble Tammy blasted her father and turned him into her first spirit minion.

Quote:Unless I'm very much mistaken, the skull is her DAD, not her husband. (She is the daughter of Tommy Arcanus, not the wife.) Not much of Numina's history has ever been made public, as she was a character created by a player (Belle) for a contest who later became a Canon Immigrant.I doubt it, GG. Namely because Numina might be a spirit and her husband might be an oracular skull, but they are both still married to my understanding.
I would have an easier time buying Posi going for Doc Delilah because as geek as he is, he'd be the only man in Paragon who'd want her for her mind, not her... other significant attributes.

Quote:Here's the textual references from the Mortimer Kal Strike Force (emphases mine):I've heard rumors on the global channels that on the new SF in I20, Positron and Numina are now said to be a couple - is that true?
And if it is, is it just hinted at, or is it all out hawt power-armored-scientist-on-departed-spirit action?
Here's the Soul Catcher text:
Quote:The Shattered Soul Catcher
A pile of red dust and broken shards of crystal are all that remain of Mortimer Kal's Soul Catcher after Numina escaped its hellish prison. You aren't sure exactly what caused it to break. Perhaps it was destroyed by the power of the Flames of Prometheus, like the Fists of Vulcan were, or maybe... just maybe... it was... love?
Nah, it must have been the Flames of Prometheus.
Quote:With the Fists of Vulcan in hand and Numina as the key to entering Positron's Lab, everything was going according to plan, until Positron's security systems alerted him to your presence and he crashed the party. Unfortunately for Posi, he let his feelings get in the way. He offered to let you go in exchange for Numina, but with the power of the Flames already in your possession you saw no reason to entertain any demands except your own. You taught Positron a valuable lesson that day, that love is a weakness to be exploited. The prize was the Flames of Prometheus. Unfortunately, the presence of the Flames had a profound effect on the Soul Catcher, and it fractured, allowing Numina to escape and whisk herself and Positron to safety. Additionally, the Fists of Vulcan were consumed, leaving your hands coated in blackened ash. Despite these losses the power of the Flames is yours! You suspect that your next run in with the Freedom Phalanx will be a heated affair.
I'm not at all thrilled about this development either, but that's coz it completely wrecks my book.

Quote:to be fair Michelle it doesn't specifiy what type of love (romantic or that of a friend) so I wouldn't say it's an utter showstopper. On the other hand I might be a wee bit biased as I rather enjoyed TCOSR.
For what it's worth I'd love to see the story continue.
Quote:*comforts Michelle*
And yeah... Numina/Positron? Where did that come from? Honestly - ignore it. She's a longstanding colleague and friend. Leave it at that and go on with the story.
(Have I mentioned my various gripes with the devs and lore lately?)
Quote:This, and...
... do we REALLY need ANOTHER "unrequited love for dead chick" story in this game? Y'know, like Scirroco and Ghost Widow?.. Bleah. Don't let Positron take the safe... and cowardly... way out.
Edit: And this is quite apart from the fact that, if he was GOING to fall for someone in the game, it would HAVE to be (from a development viewpoint) someone IN the canon. They didn't exactly have rights to YOUR character.
Quote:And don't forget timeline - depending on when TCoSR is set, any hypothetical romance between Posi and Numina pretty much has to be recent, so there's a lot of leeway to squeeze into the gaps.
Also, I have the sneaking suspicion that it's only "the love of friends" between Posi and Numi, anyway. It's not as if there have been any hints of a romance before now.
Quote:OK, so while Posi was incorporeal, he and Numi had a mixed-spirit thing going on. They went out and mingled essences occasionally. Nice dates, when you can have them.
Then Posi goes off and gets a body back. Hard to have those sorts of dates anymore, so they remain good, close friends who still care a heck of a lot about each other, but are no longer involved. Tell me you don't have a former lover who you're now close friends with and you still care about but aren't involved with anymore...? (I happen to know you can't).
So yeah, maybe they were involved. They're not now. That doesn't mean there isn't still love there, but they're just friends. So the coast is clear for Tava.
Plus everything said above this.
And if logic doesn't work, let's try pure blackmail: If you don't keep working on TCoSR, I won't ever post Cende's story to the forums.

Spoilers alert for the Mortimer Kal Strike Force, then:
The basic upshot goes as follows. Way back when, in the first comics, Positron becomes the bearer of Prometheus' Flame, which restored superpowers back to the world after Arachnos figured out how to turn them off. Since then, he has apparently been its keeper, just in case Recluse and Co. tried the same stunt. While none of the major magical villain groups were exactly thrilled about this, none of them wanted to go against the Phalanx to get it for themselves, and they sure as hell weren't going to Prometheus for their own sample.
Fast forward to now. The villainous upstarts of the MKSF, after abducted Kal's daughter, find out about the Flame, and decide, in the words of CAPTAIN Jack Sparrow and Will Turner, to apply "leverage" to get Positron to give it up. To that end, using a magical artifact culled from the Blood Coral called a Soul Catcher, they beat down Infernal and imprison Numina in the Soul Catcher.
Numina is not happy about this, the Phalanx goes batsh** wondering where she is, the villains stomp on the Midnighters in Act II.
In Act III, the villains take the Soul Catcher and Numina to Positron's lab, using her to get past Positron's security - however, she manages to tip him off that something's wrong before all hell breaks loose. The villains get hold of the Flames, and then Posi arrives...
He makes them an offer - turn over Numina and he'll let them leave. They of course tell him to go to hell. Cue battle. And being good villains, they smack him down... only to find that the Soul Catcher has shattered and Numina has escaped. Not that they care, they have the Flames now.
The tl;dr version... here's the Soul Catcher text:
Quote:And:The Shattered Soul Catcher
A pile of red dust and broken shards of crystal are all that remain of Mortimer Kal's Soul Catcher after Numina escaped its hellish prison. You aren't sure exactly what caused it to break. Perhaps it was destroyed by the power of the Flames of Prometheus, like the Fists of Vulcan were, or maybe... just maybe... it was... love?

You suspect that your next run in with the Freedom Phalanx will be a heated affair.
Kinda hard to argue with that.
Of course, I'm more than happy to entertain a discussion here as to why Numina is/isn't a better potential partner for the good Dr. Keyes, if it turns out I want to end TCoSR III on the note where Posi and Tava DON'T stay together...
... it just still kinda hurts.

Quote:It's almost 3am on a Saturday as I'm typing this, and I am just utterly miserable.*sighs*
Well, I suppose it had to happen sooner or later. FWIW, I try to keep my fandom writings canon-legit (or at least as close as possible), and for ages, I was lucky in that the good Dr. Keyes was always available.
It seems, however, that this is no longer the case as of Issue 20.Word has reached me of in-game lore that now renders THE COURSE OF SUPERHERO ROMANCE as no longer viable.
[SPOILER HINT - if you haven't already, go play the Mortimer Kal Strike Force. You'll understand why.]
I am unbelievably depressed - there was so much story yet remaining to be told. But regardless of whether I AGREE with the decisions the devs made to make such changes to the storyline, that's not my call to argue with it.
So for the forseeable future, it seems that the doctors must part company, and TCoSR is going on undefined hiatus.
Discussions, as always, go here.
Is it stupid that part of me just wants to cry as a result of this? I really was looking forward to finishing out the trilogy (even if they didn't actually STAY together at the end of it all), but this just sort of slams the door on it.

Quote:If it weren't for the fact that demorecording cutscenes and playing them back tends to bork them, I would happily go through and do just that, and create a comprehensive archive of all the game's cutscenes. If there was a way, say in Ouro, to view cutscenes out of a library, I'd be all for it. Expanding that so that one could get a lot of the lore of the game that way would be cool.
(I don't know WHY it borks them, and I cannot get a dev who is willing to help me troubleshoot the issue to see if it's something I can work on clientside.)
I'd also be inclined to add a few 'outtakes', such as when folks deliberately place themselves where they know the cutscene will start (like in the first mission of the LGTF, and the Clockwork King appears, and there's a team member standing there with a protest sign or on the phone or whatnot) but that's coz I'm weird.

Quote:Yep. Trailer for it is here. Movie had a lot of potential, but it was only like an hour long, so not really enough time to go into story and whatnot. Which is too bad. I actually liked it, and the score was damn cool. (But of course, my favorite cue wasn't ON THE SOUNDTRACK! Grrrrr.)

I may be in a minority here, but I love the cutscene at the end of Jenny Adair's arc. I wish there was a bit more camera movement in it (a slow tracking shot), but I gather the devs' cutscene tool is more cumbersome than the Eiffel Tower as designed by Picasso on acid.
One of the others I REALLY liked (for the mechanics if nothing else) was on the... Warden? Praetoria arc, way early on, and based on your morality choice, you've gotta get an experiment out of a biotank. And part of the cutscene is from the POV of the experiment INSIDE the biotank, looking out at you talking to the contact. First time I saw that, I thought, "Now THAT is COOL!"
I don't mind cutscenes, in general. If I've seen them often enough, that's my cue to dash to the kitchen and get soda, go move the laundry, bio break, or whatever.
(And there's always that little voice in my head that goes... "I could make that cutscene better.")
