Quote:I agree - I far more enjoy making the ones that are more cinematic or music video in style. But FW is right - when the UI is a feature, I want to include it.I've gotta admit, I do prefer the videos without the game UI. But I also realize an Issue trailer with a bunch of UI improvements should probably show that aspect of the Issue as well. Catch 22.
With luck, the 6th Anniversary Retrospective won't have too much of the various UIs in it. (And hooray - my spiffy new video card arrives on Monday, so I'll have nine days to shoot the Retro with UM and new graphics!)

Yeah, if you can invest in a spiffy card to handle the shinies, do it - it's so worth it.

Quote:Still? My husband still won't bite on the new video card. I'll send the money to you instead. Right. Freaking. Now.
Man...
Seriously, S_M, I don't have a script, I don't have confirmed voice actors (just who I know I'd want to get), and I don't even have a site to beg players for money to make the movie. Please save it and get something for yourself.
EDIT: I'm a conduit for revenge... this is a new one for me. Thank you, Steele... the words are horrendously inadequate, but thank you.

Nope - just some people don't like my stuff.
Quote:That video sucks! Too much Architect and not enough Tails!
I'm kidding. Probably. They should pay you for these.
Quote:Thank you Mrs Travis
I still wish you could have extended the video to about 7 minutes
"liked" it on YouTube
Retweeted on twitter
You'll never here me complain about your vids
Quote:Whatever else, a new Issue always has one good thing about it: a new Samuraiko video.Thanks. I may not be able to write an AE arc worth a damn, but I make good videos!
Quote:Well.. I am not sure about hiring... but I am absolutly sure that it is a waste of time making official video's as long as yours are sooo much better.
Great job! Will use it to show my collegues why I am so excited about this update.
Quote:Ignore them. It's just the idiots in NC Marketing - they're totally outclassed and green with envy!
I loved it - and despite the flippancy of my remark above it does make me very sad that you produce something of this quality and excitement and the marketing professionals (I use the term advisdedly) at NCSoft seem to be sat on their hands with their thumbs where the sun don't shine.
Quote:Loved it, especially the flyby switchover, very well done.
And I noticed Plasma warrior's character from the Off the Cape radio broadcasts!
Quote:This was okay, I wouldn't call it your masterpiece though. I think you've had a lot better ones in the past, especially the GR teaser. Now THAT was great film-making.
Quote:Outstanding video, D_R! I agree, the transition from regular to Ultra Mode was a great shot, and even with the frame rate dips in final playback, it looks outstanding and really covers the bases well. Another top-notch video.
As always, I hope to aspire to your level.
S.
Quote:The mirror mirror on the wall thing is a bit cliched... but that doesn't matter too much was a good video. Used a good song with the more important sections like ultra mode in the more upbeat sections. Didn't use a lot of text or do stupid things like make some sections black and white and then have the screen shake and shrink and garbage like that.
So ya good job.
******
BTW, I don't know who they are (because I don't usually recognize real names or whatnot from forumites), but to the folks who have made donations through my website since this video went live, thank you so very very much. You guys are absolutely wonderful - it goes a long way to helping keeping my video site up and running, my software updated, and my music options open.

Quote:You may have been off on the badge names, but you got the locations right.By now we all know that Issue 17 is going to bring in a slew of shiny new exploration badges to nearly every zone. Here are a few guesses as to what we might be able to expect.
Cap Au Diable: Neener Neener Neener (On top of globe) "Sure we don't have some big dork holding it... but OUR globe spins! Beat THAT ball-boy!"
Talos Island: We Quit! (on top of the hill in view of train depot) "After so many Rikti invasions and Zombie Apocalypse battles the Talos Island landscaping commission quit en masse rather than try to get grass to grow here."
Sharkhead Isle: Freak Construction Co. (in Freakshow shanty-town) "Sure they can turn a man into a cyborg death machine... but they can't build a house worth a s**t!"
Brickstown: Short Timer (near Zigg) "The Warden recently changed his 'Open Door' policy to a 'Revolving Door' policy."
St Martial: Religious Experience (in the Carnival's tent area) "St Martial is a Family Entertainment mecha! The wives come for a little gambling. The husbands flock to these tents. Strangely enough, none of the wives seem to complain that much when their hubbies don't come back."
Grandville: World Wide Web (in the webs high above the city) "Because the Dev's hate Super Speeders... that's why."

Quote:Yep, you get an I-17 video now, a 6th Anniversary video in two weeks (probably), then a GR trailer... eventually. You actually get them as soon as you create your account, but they've been cow-nerfed so badly that not only are they invisible and untargetable. Further, this particular nerfing was so powerful that it also erased the very knowledge of the cows' existence from everyone's mind.
Incidentally, I see open beta has begun, which has already produced the gnashing of teeth I mention, as well as a nice Samuraiko video. Thanks for that, and special thanks for noticing the cow thing ...

Awesome stuff as always. Your videos are always what I point people towards when they want to know what's so great about this game.
Quote:I...huh...?
Who's been in and carved 'Win' into this?
Oh...it's you again :P
Fan-flipping-tastic. As usual. I still can't believe they haven't nired you. But you already know that, eh?
Quote:Yet another in-freaking-credible video! Like the above poster, you are the reason I visit youtube to watch your videos again and again.
You've done me a big favor and don't even know it. I can show this video to my husband to convince him I really do need a new graphics card for ultramode. Showing him screenshots didn't convince him, that flying scene just may.
Currently he won't bite on that. If he continues to be obsteprious he'll no longer be biting on home cooked meals either. That way lies doom, but I'll do it. I stopped feeding him for a month when he continued to drag his feet on installing my new computer that had been sitting on his desk for three months.
Kudos for doing your part to prevent marital discord.
THE COUPLE
[scene - a shot of an interior garage door leading from the house to the garage. A woman approaches it, tries it, finds it locked.]
Wife: Honey?!
[from off camera comes loud pounding sounds with a hammer and general noisemaking]
Wife (raising her voice): Come on, you promised you'd help with the chores!
[noises continue]
Wife: There's so much to do! You said you'd help me put up the shelves in the bedroom-
[noises continue]
Wife: And the lawn still has to be mowed!
[noises continue]
Wife: And we still need to go food shopping before my mother gets here tomorrow!
[noises now include a power drill or something louder]
[the wife slumps in dejection]
Wife: Fine...
[she turns away, and as she does so...]
Wife (in a lower volume): So much for getting the Statesman Task Force done tonight.
[wife turns and walks out of shot]
[beat as the noise abruptly stops]
[another beat]
[then the garage door practically FLIES open as the husband lunges through it and nearly trips on the doorjamb chasing his wife]
[cut to logo]
This is one of four I want to make.
Of course - I had to sneak my in-game spouse in there somewhere. I also got Ocho, Niviene, and Avatea, along with Arbiter Fabulous, and the hosts of the Off the Cape podcast.

Quote:The one thing that really hit me was Ultra Mode, though. Issue 17: Feel the Lag! If that ends up imprinting even on a movie THIS good-looking, I am concerned, specifically because I'm facing similar problems.

Quote:Bit of trivia - it took me eleven tries to get the fly-by transition right, because I kept flying into the water as I was swinging the camera around. (When I focus on circling the camera, I'd accidentally tilt downward and then *splash*.)Great trailer, Michelle. Loved the transition with the fly-over at the beginning, very smooth. You always put out quality material.
I eventually gave myself a half hour to just fly around the Hollows and practice, so I could then do the skimming-across-the-water shot without faceplanting in the river.
The things I do for art...

BTW, I shot this with an nVidia 8800 GTS 512 video card on an Intel Core 2 Quad Processor Q6600 (4x 2.4GHz/8MB L2 Cache/1066FSB), with 3GB of RAM on Windows XP.
I was running UM COMPLETELY maxed out (along with all other settings save FSAA completely maxed out), but with a way low frame rate. When I ran it with UM disabled but on 'Ultra' settings (see the Issue 17 open beta notes for more info on that), it ran beautifully.

Quote:Another in a long line of me toos. So many "Oh, that's awesome/perfect/let me have your babbies!" moments that they're too many to count. I just wish the Rogue Isles were brighter because the new contacts there are so much better looking than the brightly lit (lol ninjas) new guys in Paragon.

Quote:Well, the 28th IS on a Wednesday, so unfortunately, yeah, them's that work are probably gonna get shafted. However, in 2012, April 28th is on a Saturday, so just stick around til then.Whatever they do for the 6th anniversary, I certainly hope they do it on a weekday during regular working hours. Then I will get to miss it again like last year's 5th anniversary events, because I'll be at work, like last year. Nothing better than poorly-timed events that a whole slew of people can't attend.

Quote:I answer to a lot of things, so whatever works. And I'm sure the devs have something planned (I hope). Whether it's another round of unleashing GMs hither thither and yon, new badge, or whatnot, it's cool.Samuriko Making a Video is always the best treat, but I am sure the Devs have something planned, I mean they went big for 5 why not for 6, not many MMOs can claim they have held a nice player base for 6 years and still have room for more people with a huge interest in their next big expansion (Only one I can think of that ever made much publicity about that kinda stuff and I wont mention that name!)
Although I can imagine 6 years not being as big as 5 I still would think something will happen.
Edit: Even being on your friends list I can never spell your name right Samuraiko, Maybe I should just call ya DR.

Quote:Oooh, at what veteran level do we get cows? I want!I expect a badge (still not account-wide, though), some kind of one-off mission, and endless player complaints about how it's poorly written, too hard, too easy, uses a group people hate, the devs nerfed their pet cows, etc.
In other words, the usual stuff.

Cutscene comments are best when they're accidental. The best one I ever saw had a player levelling just as we reached Rommy, and just as he shouts, "I AM NICTUS!!!", the text bubble of someone responding to the corruptor levelling pops up:
"gratz"
We just about teamwiped because we were howling with laughter at the coincidence of it.
