Brief update:
The Dark Harrier has moved into apartment 1007, and intends to renovate as soon as is feasable. -
Say, I was wondering if a more knowledgeable member could take a screenie of the in-game Whitmoore so we could all identify it? I know it's near the tram in Steel, but I mean, it could be any building, heheh. Thanks!

Hm, you could always go the comic-book writer's route:
[since he's an atomic energy kinda hero] brainstorm many possible reasons he was exposed to mutagens/atomic power, then run with the theme you like best:
- Exposed to an atomic blast, somehow survives.
He was an atomic scientist, he was a WW2 spy in Hiroshima, underground nuke test technician left behind, worked at a nuke power plant...
- astronaut returns from space after exposure to atomic storm/close pass to the sun
- secretly an ALIEN!!!!
That's about all I could come up with in about 5 minutes. -
[[Wyrd! Ooh, who are ya Blue, might we have met once at Brushwood?]]

[[Hey gang, I'm heading off to a Subgenius devival for the 4th, and won't be back from subsequent activities between Friday night and around July 10th. Try not to get anyone killed or married till I get back, if it can be helped.
I look forward to catching up to the 1000 posts that'll appear in my absence.]]

Character Name: the Dark Harrier
Origin Story:
Theme Song(s): Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen
Hero - Kroeger/Scott
Warriors of the World - Manowar
Why those songs?
Bohemian Rhapsody: a long, winding tale of a doomed boy, Eric had seen himself as this figure during his youth. His mutation manifesting in High School caused him to label himself as an outsider, and led him to criminal associations. Once his gang were murdered by their employers, and Eric turned the tables and killed the assassins, he faced a potential death sentance either from the police if he'd been caught, or the mob looking for payback. The more triumphant final movement of the song marks his reversal of fortune, coming to Paragon and taking the high road, forsaking his past and becoming a hero. Though the last refrain is still nihilistic, he knows he will continue onward, and die with his mask on.
Hero: as much a nod to modern culture, this Kroeger song is a good slow, gravelly-voiced, grinding-rock song for Eric as the Harrier. He sees the evil loose in society, and grimly dons his cape each day, and heads out, determined to right wrongs and stomp some serious [censored] in the name of Justice.
Warriors of the World: this is Eric's theme for a team. He relishes joinng forces with other heroes, becoming brothers and sisters in the fight for Right. Taking widely diverse talents and melding them into a functioning war-band against evil elates Eric, and this song of a warrior's brotherhood echoes in him.
Backstory Posts: His origin details are viewable in the "Marvel Handbook entry" thread, and subsequent adventures exist all through the Whitmoore story. -
Wait a tick.. the real Mercedes Lackey plays this game?
Gods, where does that woman find the time to play MMO's? -
Apartment: None; frequent guest
Name: the Dark Harrier
Current Location: Whitmoore environs
Storyteller: Dark_Harrier
Summary: the legendary Dark Harrier is a flying hero originally from NYC. He's fallen in with a resident group of heroes following a large Clockwork attack on the Whitmoore. Though he lives in the suburbs of Paragon, his associates frequently allow him to crash on their couches when a mission is underway. A blond male hero in his late 30's, wearing a caped black leather costume in the typical Golden Age style; his symbol is a white bird of prey. His true identity is kept meticulously secret. -
Hello all!
Well, I must apologize for bailing. I got hooked on another game, but a bit more positively than I expected. I came in, and saw how the WRPT had taken off.. wow!
I must give my goodbyes to all now. You guys are members of an excellent game's community, and darn outstanding ones at that.May Life treat you well.
I will try and stop by now and again to see how the story goes, and was honored to have been a part of it. I love writing fight scenes, and reading them, so keep 'em coming! Won't be able to post though, but remember as you write on... you have at least one hooked fan.
Farewell. -
OK guys, brief update...
I am a happy member of the Alliance guild Mithril Warhammers, and am currently on the Sargeras server under the name "Drighten". If anyof you play, please look me up. We [the MWH guild] are bound for the Achimonde overcrowd-server once it settles down, Sargeras is merely a standby at this time, just an FYI.
ON a personal note, I just this hour returned from a full-on Baptist funeral for a friend of many years, who died abruptly this week, so I'm pretty blown out. He was a year younger than I,. and we're all pretty young still.. at least, I think so.
So I prolly won't be back much till Tuesday or so. I'll try and work Harrier's farewell into the story at that point. Gah, what a week.
Be well all, miss playing with ya, see ya soon. -
/wave Slipshod!
I myself am enjoying the thread immensely, I haven't had the bug to write creatively in a long time. Alot of good participants, you really bring out some good stuff. Hail one and all!
So, htere's a screenie of the actual Whitmoore building? OMG someone post it, I need to see this thing and go there myself!
Meanwhile, here's one of my screens of the little gathering on Virtue of the Whitmoore Irregulars.
the Team!
From left to right, it's the mysterious Light Harrier [my Bizarro World self, though I'm obviously cuter], me, Alex as Shadow Marshal, and the lovely Ishtara in boots that would put Japanesze sex girls to shame.
I hope we can do that again, I had to leave just as Ish came on, I'd LOVE to just chill, or even do a real group [I have a level one toon too if we could] or we could just hang and chat in Atlas plaza.
See ya!
PS - you realize we are approaching 10,000 views on the Whitmoore thread! We must be setting a record! Can we all get an accolade for that? Heheh. -
Might as well say under Atlas. That good?
-
Cool.. Since Victory is my home town, I'll be appearing as myself!
-
Eh, any time to spend there is good for me, Slugbug. Leave when you gotta. If people can stay, it may turn into a badly-planned street hunting group. Heheh.

Just wanted to add

Whew. -
Hm, can we do an evening thing? Despite the fact it's a weekend day, I still gotta do chores before I can relax.
-
That sounds excellent Tick! I really only play one of three alts I made. Agree on the server and time and we can all hang!
Hm. If I do a cliffhanger, I'd leave things open for me to return someday, so I'd rather be a memory of someone you worshipped as a god, Riley. That sound good?
[/cackle]

Heehee, no Ish, never hard feelings for folks with luck. Hm, I am likely bound for the Central PvP server, I am following the Mithril Warhammers wherever they go [if there's a PvP+RP server, they may go there], I've known them since Shadowbane and intend to apply for membership and live as a Dwarf.
Tick, I dunno buddy, there are a few long-awaited games coming out now so some folks may just be doing what I did. CoH is something of a huge sleeper hit, it got nowhere near as much press as EQ2 or WoW did but it's just as good... so maybe that's it.
UH - Nooooooooooo. Naughty boy! If I DO go as far as to kill DH, it will definitely be a cliffhanger, not a shot to the head. It depends on timing and where the storyline is at the time I go. the game has been so fun I would have stayed if I could afford both but that's not an option atm, so I am hoping the toon will survive unerased by maintanance, and maybe I can come back some day.
Sol-Ar, word up man, you and I gotta bust some heads before the end comes, ite? Ite! -
Hey guys and gals in the Whitmoore thread,
Just wanted to say that I am likely leaving CoH soon. I began playing this game to kill time until WoW went live, and that day is fast approaching, so I wanted to specifically say goodbye to those of you I've RPed with in that thread.
I'm pretty much a soloer in-game for various reasons, and you all were the players I 'hung out' with the most, oddly enough, so i wanted to say thanks, and good game.Really made the time fly, and made it enjoyable. Kudos and single-origin Enhancements to one and all.
The game hits the 23rd, and I have preordered, but given my luck with it so far [comp bluescreens randomly using that damned torrent downloader.. got into the open beta and couldn't download the darn file, w.t.f!], it is possible I'll let my account go over into December just to be careful while i sort out the other game and its relationship with my computer.
But if the game installs smoothly I will likely be gone. This was a great game, with a great community, but I am heading off for new adventures, as I intended from the beginning.
Thanks again, one and all.
/salute! -
[[a million apologies for breaking the in-character flow of the thread.. but that was excellent.]]

Holy smack! Darn good for a first effort!
