How hard is it to say "take a right after you enter the base and follow the hall to the left...should be the second telepad."
[/ QUOTE ]
But I don't have a Telepad down that hall. -

I just see players having found something that made the game fun for them again, and it really isn't affecting anyone else, and the devs wanna end it.

Actually, there you are wrong. Farming causes imbalance in the Markets for the general player. Farming Allows the RMT to get characters up to the level they can send the annoying SPAM e-mail out, and gets them more inf/goodies quicker thereby upsetting the balance of things such as the markets.
There will always be farming, but the point is that it is not what the game was made for. It is a game and the we are allowed into the world provided we abide by the rules imposed by the Devs. The end result is it is their sandbox and they can do what they want, regardless of what an RPer, PVPer or Farmer wants.
And yes, I have noticed an increase in the ammount of RMT Spam I get since the MA went live.
[/ QUOTE ]
The imbalance is off-set by the common salvage going for much more now because it cannot be purchased via tickets.
And the spammers should not be a reason to nerf ANYTHING in the game for players. Set up better filters, block IPs, etc.
And how many people are playing the game the way it was envisioned? To bring up a point I made earlier, did the devs really plan on players spending all their time in Pocket D cybering with one another? Yet there are players that do that. Did devs envision costume contests? Or beach parties? The game will always grow outside of what the devs envision, for good or bad.
[/ QUOTE ]
And, if you read my post, there will always be farming, but correcting a system that can be exploited to the extent that MA was being exploited, is wrong. The Devs have done things to help curtail farming or really adjusting the risk vs. reward system in the past, from Com Officers to the mole machines.
Should it have been fixed before going live? Yes it should have. They dropped the ball on that, but a lot of things make it out of beta that shouldn't.
And as far as common salvage going for so much more, I don't think that is a good thing. Prices on the market have been so out of whack as it is, to contribute to it more, thereby making items more difficult for the common average player to get creates an imbalance. Oh, and it shows the love for the Farmers. -

At times using the normal move forward key, it becomes autorun on its own.

While I have to say that I am disappointed that you are not going to be making it anywhere east of the Rockies this year, I can understand with how much travel expenses have gone up.
Hopefully next year you can make it out to the Chicago Comicon, or even further east more often so the large amount of players that are east of the Mississippi get chances to meet everyone. -
Well Hopefully someday a tourney will be made for mid to lower levels. I love the tourney idea and was getting a team together, but with the tourney only being higher level players, It blows us up.
Good luck to everyone participating. May the next tourney be for lower levels! -

Um, has everyone forgotten already that the main point of this thread is that server performance is expected to be improved over previous 2X-XPs? That along with a reminder that any server has a limit (which, really, need not be said)?
The devs did the right thing by telling us that things should go better but are not infinitely perfect. It's a shame that some here don't want to be told about reality or haven't got past "I want everything to go MY way, and I want it NOW!" I myself am happily looking forward to improved server performance this weekend.
[/ QUOTE ]
I am just being realistic about the situation. If someone gives a warning like what Lighthouse has given us, then it is time to brace for the worst, and hope for the best.
Since the introduction of IO's the amount of gold farmers present in game has been noticeably larger, and as Soul Train pointed out earlier, this weekend gives them the biggest bang for their time. They will more than likely be the ones that do cause servers to close down, Especially Freedom and Virtue, since those would be the biggest populations and places for them to get the influence for anyway.
Now, I have not noticed any serious lag issues on previous Double XP Weekends, but I"ve always been working higher levels, and just going into missions. With the lag that places like Talos get from Wentworths, I"m sure that there are going to be lag complaints all over the place this weekend.
No matter what happens, there are people that are going to be unhappy. For myself, I have 2 live DJ shifts that I prefer to do from the server the station I am a part of represents. LAst time I was doing missions with listeners during my shifts, since we go out of our way to have live DJs all double XP Weekend long. Locked Servers could put a crimp in that, and is something else I now have to come up with an alternative plan for.
Do the dev's owe us an answer, of course not. Are there a ton of factors that can go into the decisions? Heck yes, and while I don't think even the Devs can have firm ideas on all of the factors, the baselines they need to have in place before the start. Add on that noone can think of everything, so I have tossed out factors that maybe the Devs had not thought of.
I am getting ready for the worst, which is unfortunate, and hopefully I'll be wrong. -

since when did a possibility become a certainty?
[/ QUOTE ]
Considering the ammounts of people playing, and the fact that we have not been told if they are activating old accounts, plus the number of RMT gold farmers, plus we have no clue what the cap or situations where the cap would be enforced are, to be safe you have to make the assumption that the servers will be locked at some point.
There are just way too many variables that have not been adressed for a locking of the servers not to happen, at least for some undetermined length of time. Also it seems to be a subjective thing, locking servers. -
[ QUOTE ]
Yeah....this won't end well. I forsee about half the population of Virtue logging on Friday morning after maintenence, and AFKing in bases and missions when not active so they won't have to worry about being locked out. Truthfully, I'll probably do the same...
[/ QUOTE ]
This is one of the biggest worries around, outside of gold farmers.
I only play on Virtue. I only have characters that I wish to play on virtue, and while I hope that the server locks don't happen. For those with limited playing time, they will probably be locked out.
Not only that, but I"ve still been seeing lots of mapserver issues with Virtue during regular loads there, let alone the DB server errors.
Now add on that lag issues could arise due to a person's ISP or a bottleneck anywhere out in the net, and what is the requirements to lock down the server. Too much lag Vs. Population? I s there a baseline that the Devs are going to run off of? What is that baseline? What if the server load shows low but you are still getting compalints of Lag problems? What about gold farmers? What about people who have not been able to upgrade their video cards to the latest and greatest so they don't get video lag?
These are just a few of the issues with locking down servers, and for players who have lag issues, not to mention those of us that do play only on 1 server.
I can understand the idea of warning us this /might/ happen, and I appreciate that. It just seems like too general of a warning for a population that could see the lock downs used as a way to try and entice people to switch off Virtue or Freedom and to another server. -

I always thought NCSoft owned CoX and Cryptics from the beginning anyways...
It's to early to know now, but I think CoX's future will be a positive one.
[/ QUOTE ]
According to the press release the IP for CoX was split between NCSoft and Cryptic. The IP now falls completely under NCsoft. -
[ QUOTE ]
I agree, DJS, and I know that there are plenty of players that enjoy doing them, my brother being one of those people. But what I don't see is a large percentage of the population doing them. It seems to be the same folks over and over with the occasional "my turn to try it" person added in.
Granted, I do live on low pop servers, and this will affect my perceptions.
Just seems to me that this is a prime time to get back into the swing of fixing bad decisions.
Creating an event where you either need an ideal team or be loaded up with shivans and bombs does not promote global enjoyment. Nor, apparently, does an event where you go through the same attack phase 3 times, probably dying 3 times, over X amount of time.
My hope for this change in ownership is that we can move forward with fixing long standing problems with design decisions and technology.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think the biggest thing we as players will see from all of this is in customer service. With everything now under one roof completely, the support staff is no long split up.
I think most everything else will be the same at least for the next few issues. -
Ok, what I don't get is why everyone is saying that the game is changing hands?
From the press release... [ QUOTE ]
The announcement comes as the company begins a renewed push to further develop the City of Heroes® property, which is now 100 percent owned by NCsoft. Previous to today, ownership of the intellectual property (IP) was split between NCsoft and Cryptic Studios, the original developer of the project.
[/ QUOTE ]
NCSoft has had partial ownership of the game for a long time now. There is no ownership change, basically its known as consolidation under one of the owners while the other goes on to do their own thing at this point. With the current Dev team staying with the game, we should not have much to worry about. -
[ QUOTE ]
I'll compromise with ya. If they can make the 3 end game raids remotely fun, I'll back future new raids. Fair enough?
[/ QUOTE ]
Bill,
You are entitled to your opinion on what is fun and what is not. Just remember that what is fun for one isn't fun for someone else. They try to make things so that more people will have fun in their own ways with this game, and it looks like the will continue to do so.
That being said, I don't do a lot of raids, have never completed an STF, and don't have anyone high enough to try a Recluse TF. I don't normally PvP either, nor do I do a lot with the whole IO system, but I enjoy the game, and have found that things like PvP, raids and TFs are a lot more fun when you are doing them with people you like. -

Ok, here is a question on the full access rights (sorry if this had been asked before). Are the special powers for purchasing things such as GvE or the premier editions (things such as special costume options, That slide pwoer etc..)) going to be added into the accounts also?
[/ QUOTE ]
None of those goodies, no. Just access to the other side like you'd bought the base game.
If you want the GvE goodies, you can still upgrade your account with that stuff stand alone for I believe $9.99 via the PlayNC store. Well actually log into account management here and you can upgrade your account to include the GvE goodies (jump pack, prestige sprints, Pocket D VIP recall, etc.)
[/ QUOTE ]
Ok, that makes sense. The way things are being stated almost makes it all sound as if the game itself is being revamped to really be 1 game overall, and was curious.
Hopefully that will appease those that purchased special editions of the game(s). -

With the games basically becoming one game, one price, what are the other ramifications. Will people who just go out and purchase say CoV or CoH still get access to both sides even though they are new players?
Everything coming under one roof can be good for the CoX game, but it could also be a disaster. I look forward to all of this with guarded anticipation. I"ve seen too many mergers/acquisitions of property/management, look good on paper, bring in the old guard, only to drastically change things up within a year to not be a little skeptical and worried about the future of CoX. -
I"m signed up jsut need to know what time and where the place is.
-
Yeah, I tried some redside, and as the fight went on it got worse and worse. Powers showing recharged yet they weren't, major lag etc...
-
Ok, Start with the negative 1st, which has been stated over and over again. LAG! I noticed one person upgraded his graphics card and had no problem, but the majority of us CAN NOT DO THAT! I was fighting an invasion last night and noone understood how we were able to take down the invaders cause noone was doing anything due to the lag. Hearing that this was constantly complained about while this was on test, I heard a lot of people saying they wished it was tested out of the system before going to live, and yes it should have been. The Admin Messages in all windows was the other big complaint that I heard of. People who were trying to do missions only to avoid the lag problems also were not happy, due to the fact that they could not get to missions easily, especially timed missions.
Now the Good. RWZ looks great, the whole invasion idea is amazing, and when lag isn't a factor is a ton of fun. The fact that this will be going on for a while is a great idea, then the attacks due to finishing the RWZ TF continue is great also.
Overall, right now, I have to give it a grade of a D though. Great content, great ideas, but the poor implementation and testing (and yes I did try to play on test during open testing) really takes away from the whole experience. -
Thanks. Yeah I might go that route. It sucks that I can't just shell out a lot of money. Limits my options big time. I appreciate it.

Hey everyone.
Ok, stupid question time from me, I've a character in game that is having an RP wedding to another character, and am thinking of getting artwork of the 2 of them together.
The problem comes in that, I currently am on a real tight budget due to being out of work. Anyone suggest some lower priced artists that do decent work, and possible could have it done by Arpil (the RP wedding is in May and I wanted to possibly use is as part of the Invitation that I"m creating for it). I know its a long shot, but you all know a lot more about these things than me. Thanks in advance.

Man so much good art around here. I"m jealous. Its great Rockstar.
