    wierd xp issue

Right click on the start button and check the customizations. There are a couple in there that would prevent you from right clicking or dragging and dropping. Namely:

Enable Dragging and Dropping should be checked.

I've seen updates switch some of these settings for security purposes.

If I were you, I'd start doing some searches releated to "windows memory leak" and see what you can come up with.

It may not be that, but in every case I've seen where performance degrades over time, it usually has something to do with a memory leak of some kind--especially if you were running fine to begin with when you first started up the game. Means your system can definitely handle it--it's just leaking performance somehow.

If I'm right, you may possibly have to wait until Microsoft comes out with a patch for their new OS... Although I'm looking forward to being able to use Windows 7, this is why I never get an OS "the second it comes out." Wait until the first service pack or something next time...

I can certainly attest that it runs fine in a Vista 64-bit environment, though...

ITs not a memory leak as I run Win 7 x64 and have no rpoblems with NVidia and CoH on it. There have been some driver issues recently with NVidia, and also some of the cards have updates to their BIOS, but it could be an overheat as someone else suggested also, although if the system with WinXP had no problems, it really does point to a driver problem, although it could be the Solid State Drive causing the problem.

    Irnee,

Don't let those people turn you off. I see all types of RPers from new to old hat in the D. There are some groups and some who tend to be more "jerkish" about things. I hope it wasn't people around me while I was doing my show for The Cape, and if it was, I appologize.

As far as the not capitalizing your I, there are some people out there who are pains in the butt about proper spelling, typing, grammar etc. Most of us don't care as long as we can read it.

Just keep up at it, and I bet you find people that will be more than happy to help you out, and take you in. I know of a bunch that learned by hanging in the D and going to things like the radio shows being broadcast, the events going on etc...
  6. Ok, "Im going to say this one, while there are problems with some of the Drivers from NVidia, you can use an older driver or a Vista 64 Bit driver and not run into the problems.

I currently am running a 9800GTX+ OC with year old drivers and do not have the framerate rpoblems on Win7 64 bit.

  15. Most definitely a very happy b-day
  16. Well, without knowing information from your system, it is tough to do any diagnosis. Post a Hijack this Log and a log from CoH Helper and what video card/system specs please so we can help out.

Every contest makes people mad and upset. Every contest gets the sayings of "Run poorly, Voted for friends only, it was rigged"

So it is. People are too competitive and too stupid to realize that they need to take these things in stride and its nto the end of the world if you don't win.

I've never one a costume contest, Heck I rarely win anything. I entered for the fun of it and if I win, then cool, otherwise Oh well.

They try their best to do something like this, with what looks liek a lot of new people inolved int he planning etc, and yeah things will not always seem to be the best. But they work their butts off just like anyone who tries to do things.

    Cut em a break.
  19. This Tuesday on The Cape At 10pm Eastern DJ Shecky presents the music of the OCR team.

As a gift for all the hard work the OCR team (Niv, Ocho, Avatea) do, I have gotten music lists from them and that is the programing for the normal Degeneration show. Tune in to show your support and appreciation of the wonderful community relations people.

Video card is the big one...the drivers that Win Update installs for your vid card will be the most basic, and in most cases won't include any of the bells and whistles for gaming. However, 64-bit drivers for 7 are usually pretty easy to find these days, MS seems to have ridden the manufacturers hard this time around because 64-bit is starting to become the standard.

Sound card drivers, depending on the card you have, may work for gaming off of what Win Update installs, or may not...there's really no way to know until you're running it, but again...these seem to be pretty easy to find in most cases, for the same reason as vid card drivers.

The rest should run off of whatever Win Update installs.

Actually, I let it auto install the vid drives on my isntalls and it was full drivers from NVidia that had been Microsoft WHQL approved. Mind you that is not always the most current drivers, but it did isntall non-generic drivers, along with the NVidia control panel.

The drawback I have found is for some hardware that initially it can't find drivers for, to get them installed is a bit of a pain, especially if you remove drivers before installing new ones, (like you should). Win 7 tends to try to auto install pretty quickly.

  23. You know you might have a CoH addiction when looking at the title of this thread you automatically think Pick Up Group Friday...
  24. Reliability - There could be a few issues that have been pointed out with CoH and Win 7. Yes there are work arounds for them, and I have yet to see anything compatibility wise that owuld make it a deal breaker.

Performance - I have Win 7 running on my 3.5 year old HP machine (x64 version) and the performance is actually better, mostly because I did a wipe and clean install so I got rid of a lot of baggage that I had under XP. I am maxed out at 4 GB of ram and with the x64 now get to use all 4 GB instead of the 3.5 limit I had under XP.

DirectX does not affect CoH/V as far as I know. It is still an OpenGL based game.

Honestly, if you have the drive space, there are guides to creating a dual boot XP/Win 7 system out there, decide if you like it, and then switch. I took the jump headlong into Win 7 and while I was not a fan of Vista, I do like Win 7 as much as I enjoyed XP. There is a bit of a learning curve as to the new GUI interface, but again nothing major.

    Hope this helps.
