Defiance works pretty well, but is very dangerous for a blaster. I recommend switching scrapper criticals and defiance around. It really sounds like something for a scrapper; and scrappers loose health slowly, where blasters loose it fairly quickly.
[/ QUOTE ]
Very good idea. Though in that case the effectiveness of criticals might need to lowered a bit since blasters generally do more damage than scrappers--and you might want to preclude the level 32 "nukes" from having criticals at all to avoid them being overpowered. But it could work technically *and* make sense.
Otherwise I'd be wary of relying on defiance as a blaster. When your health drops low, your best bet is to avoid the enemy unless you have an Empathy defender watching your back, or someone else can grab agro. Sticking around to fire off a few more shots, no matter how much improved, will likely get you a faceplant in 1-2 more shots, especially as you rise in level.
And defiance, as pointed out previously, does nothing vs. status attacks. As before, your only protection is to get them before they get you--something defiance does not address.
On another note, I find Monday's update about defiance very disturbing. First, the heavy emphasis on teaming (which I5 seems designed to force*). Second, and worse, the update presents it as a fait accompli regardless of the feedback we provide here.
*I enjoy teaming--the interaction with other players to me is the best part of the game. But I don't my option to solo taken away, and many of the changes I5 presents on the test server seem to favor teaming at the expense of soloing, *and* force players into class-roles all too similar to other MMOs. But that's a topic for another thread. -
Absolutely hilarious--and an incredible job putting that together!
Of course, now I can't get that song out of my head....

I remember when Lady Liberty (Or miss Liberty, don't remember 100%) started accusing people on the Beta Forums about her name being stolen back during the whole name reservation debacle.
[/ QUOTE ]
That was actually settled by the forum member Miss Liberty getting word from the devs that she would be "accepting the mantle" from the other Ms. Liberty. Never really did hear much of her once the game was past a few months old.
[/ QUOTE ]
Still, it was amusing how many people were screaming about having their names "stolen".
[/ QUOTE ]
In case nobody has mentioned it already (I'm still catching up with this thread), there were seperate situations ragarding Ms. Libery and Lady Liberty.
Ms. Liberty was an active, friendly poster on the beta boards. When Cryptic revealed that there would be a trainer by the same name, there was a fair amount of concern for the "original" Ms. Liberty. As it turns out, Cryptic had seen the potential problem, contacted her in advance to discuss it, and came up the idea of letting her character assume the mantle. That said, I don't know if the beta Ms. Liberty actually ever made it into the game.
The story regarding, Lady Liberty, on the other hand, happened after the game went live. She was one of many who posted that her name was supposedly stolen. Since she had been using that on beta boards, and had written backstory, etc. to fit the concept, she felt that nobody should have been able to beat her to the name. Unfortunately for her, name reservation didn't work that way....
Now back to reading the thread--brings back such memories! -
Good thing I've been saving up influence. I have the feeling my heroes will be going on a shopping spree!

Just FYI, the rollback of boss difficulty just hit the test server, so should be soon.
[/ QUOTE ]
Thanks, that's great news.
And while I'm thinking of it, thanks to the Devs for fixing the silent glowies issue. I like the new noise they make, and especially that they now go quiet once you've interacted with them. Great job! -

We will roll back the Boss changes.

Any update on a timeline for this?
I often solo, and the combination of new bosses and vague/misleading mission descriptions are making the game really less enjoyable.
Case in point: Had some time to play this morning. My D3 picked up a timed mission from a contact. I read it very carefully before choosing the mission, and it didn't say anything about about a boss, nothing about bringing along teammates, nothing about "defeating all" in the mission. If anything, the description makes it sound like a "find the glowies" kind of task.
Only after chosing it does it mention that you can win by a) defeating all the mobs, or b) finding the glowies and beating "those in charge of the operation". Uh oh. Possible boss? Which means I'd have to defeat that boss for first victory option too.
So I do almost all the mission and indead no matter how I want to end this thing, it turns out that I must defeat a Freak Tank Smasher boss (+1, no less). I've done it solo exactly once since the new bosses were unleashed, but only after three deaths.
Since the mission was timed (and the servers were going down shortly afterwards anyway), there was not time to scrounge for teammates. So I gave it my best shot, but after two deaths & a fresh new bar of debt I gave up and will simply fail the mission.
Frustrating, and unheroic. And it's no better in teams when the squishier types get obliterated in 1-2 shots; even great players will eventually make mistakes, and the way bosses are set up now there is little way to recover in time.
Sorry for the venting, but I can't stand the new bosses and want them to go away sooner rather than later, so my heroes (other than my scrapper) don't have to dread selecting missions. -

My guess is that, using the awesome power of the GM, they clicked the blinky for you, thus completing your mission.
I'm not entirely sure they can otherwise mark missions complete for you. Perhaps they can. I doubt they would for an undeclared boss. In any case, they have better things to do, like helping people with unfindable blinkies or hostages.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, I wasn't even in the mission when the GM marked it complete.
Never underestimate the power of a GM.... -
[ QUOTE ]
And they're going to do what, exactly? The GM will say "Sorry, I can't help you. Go get a team." They have no power to mark a mission complete just because you're unable to complete it. - Valerian

Actually, they can.
My scrapper got an "find 12 glowies in Orenbega" mission a while back. Fought through the whole thing, but found one glowie was stuck in a wall. I could hear it, but had no way to access it. It was not merely invisible, as I've dealt with those before. There was no way for me to finish the mission.
So I reset in the hopes that the glowies would move around, and went through again. Nine glowies moved, but three stayed in place, including the problem one. I exited & reset a couple more times, and then once again the following day. Using Stealth/SS to zip around quickly, I found that the same three glowies (2 fine, 1 bad) remained in place.
I petitioned, and eventually a GM came on and was able to mark the mission "completed", which I think acutally finished a story arc. Mercifully, I did not have to race through the whole thing again.
Just thought you should know: GMs can mark the mission complete. Though I don't know if they *would* because of an undeclared boss. -
Boomtown is a ton of fun. I always enjoy hunting or missions in that zone, even with my hero that uses SS to get around.
Dark Astoria: Even better! I love the spooky feel of that zone. Especially the Moth Cemetary section.
On the other hand, Faultline gives me a headache. Literally. Something about the uneven terrain makes me reach for aspirin after a little while. The zone is visually impressive, but unless a mission drags me there or I'm in a mood to go sight-seeing (via Flight, above the crevices), I generally avoid it.
I usually see a fair amount of heroes in each zone though. -

Lol, I want that power! I'll even trade my Crey Pistol for it. Okay, maybe not that.
The skills system looks like it will be fun and add more variety to our heroes. Can't wait to see all the details. -

Did this happen on the Test Server? If so please do a /bug in game while still in the mission. This will provide us with the map that this error is occuring on. You will then also need to do a /petition in order to get the mission cleared for you.
Thank you,
Vyvyanne

I had this too yesterday, on Virtue, during an Oranbega mission--luckily not one where I had to defeat them all. I considered petitioning, but already had one unanswered petition going (glowy lost in geometry in another Orangbega mission). -

Argh, 2 more hours before I can run home and log on (and I do mean RUN--I walk to work)!
Maybe a portal will open here at the office and liven things up a bit. Well, one can dream anyway....
