Great episode. I'd guess that the reason they haven't announced a new season is because both sides are still negotiating the deal - I'd be shocked if either side didn't want to do one.

Quote:Yeah, I've seen stories about parasites that can force or induce the host to do things it normally would not do, for no other reason than to benefit the parasite. Eating sure doesnt' seem to provide much in the way of nutrition or sustenance for the decaying zombies, lol.I figure that hunger is a mechanism for spreading the contagion. Since they're slower than a healthy human, a zombie can bite someone who then escapes and survives to let the contagion incubate. Perhaps that person won't know that their injury is fatal, or they'll know what it is and conceal it, hoping against hope that there's some sort of cure. It's rather insidious, as it uses human nature as a safeguard for ensuring incubation.

Quote:If merle was the one who stole the truck, then he probably already knew his brother wasn't in camp, as he was probably following the sheriff and his gang, which included merles bro.As the attack started, my wife and I hypothesized that Merle loaded up the truck with walkers and drove them up there on purpose for vengeance. Rethought that some after realizing he would get his brother ate in the mess... unless he scouted camp first.
Regardless, the guy is a lunatic, so maybe he's pissed at his brother too for not coming to help him right away. -
One thing I noticed is that the hick with the crossbow re-uses his bolts after killing zombies. Then he shot one of the gang members in the butt with one of the bolts. It'd be interesting if the gangbanger zombified in the middle of the rest home sanctuary...

Quote:LOL, nobody is claiming the 'devs can do no right', the fact everyone posting here is playing their game shows that we all enjoy what they produce.Releasing on the 16th was quite explicitly stated as a goal that they hoped to reach, but knew might not happen, and if it couldn't be released on the 16th it would be released after the US Thanksgiving holiday. There was never a promise made at the actual M&G in the world outside some posters' heads, but they've insisted there was a promise because they see it as support for their position that the Devs can do no right.
The complaints are coming due to the fact they are consistently late in releasing new content. Again, some of the stuff we are still waiting for was supposed to be released with GR. You can play games with semantics all you want, but a lot of us are aggrivated with being strung along waiting for the incarnate content. If you're not, that's great, but acting like there is no reason at all for some of us to feel the way we do is ridiculous. It's a valid argument that they've missed a lot of release dates recently, and most customers don't like it when the person they are doing business with is consistently late with providing products or services. -
Quote:Man, I wish ncsoft was as forgiving about our end of the deal as you are with theirs. Call them up and tell them that you really wanted to send in your game fees on the due date, but due to technical difficulties you have to delay.Good point!
Funny how people don't mention that very much...
I'm cool with the dolling out as things are ready approach. Early, late, whenever.... I happen to enjoy the game in its current state, so, new stuff is just extra.
NCSoft: "Thats OK electric knight, we LOVE our players and really appreciate the fact you've supported our game over the years, so don't worry about this months bill, send it in whenever you want! We know you agreed to send it in on the (insert date here), but it's ok if you just guess or make up dates then just send it in whenever you want. Heck, if you do send it in, to us it's just 'extra'! Thanks again for being a super-duper customer. We're gonna send you a free code for the party pack just for the heck of it. Is your address still 34 gumdrop lane in candyland?" -
Well looks like I lost a bunch of stuff in this screw up too. I know 4 of the recipes that are missing for sure, but because I didn't keep a damn log of what was in there I'm out the rest? That's flippin' ridiculous. I was planning on pulling them out when respec'ing my main toons when i19 released, which was delayed because of bugs, now I've lost them because of a damn e-mail screw up? Oh man...

I used to be a proponent for full proliferation of all sets, but now I see the value of keeping some sets unique to certain ATs, especially now that ats are not restricted to red or blue side. Having said that, I'd love to see ninjitsu ported to scrappers, its a really fun set to play - sadly it's only available on an AT that imo is severely underperforming vs competing ats. And to address the 'problem' with having access to the same power twice, couldn't they just have the duplicate power 'greyed out' or simply left out of the power selection screen if it is taken already from another set of powers?

Quote:I18 just came out like yesterday, relax. As long as I19 comes out during the calendar year 2010, they are on schedule as far as I'm concerned. That would be three issues this year. One less than the promised 4 updates or quarterly updates originally promised, but considering there were some years we only got two updates, it's all good.
Just get it right instead of giving it to us right now...
If you're fine with missed release dates or waiting longer for i19, thats fine, but c'mon, lol.
I18 was released 3 months ago, not 'like yesterday'.
The main point of issue 18/GR, the alpha slot, was supposed to be in going rogue to begin with, and even when it releases, we won't be getting the full alpha slot, so claiming they are 'on schedule' is ridiculous. As far as I'm concerned, the second half of going rogue (and the better half imo), is LONG overdue.
And finally, 3 updates (2 of which were supposed to be in one update, and we're assuming i19 will be launched before 2011...) out of a, as you yourself stated, 'promised' 4, is not 'all good', it's another failure to deliver what they 'promised' us. Outside of the ridiculously devoted, that results in disappointed customers and loss of business, which hurts the devs, the game and everyone still playing it.
Don't get me wrong, I don't blame the 'little guys' working on the game (the work they do overall is outstanding, which is why I love this game), this is most likey the fault of those at the top, looking to maximize profits using methods that actually will end up killing them, like swapping out experienced workers for newbs and/or cutting employees all together, while pushing unrealistic work goals, and more damaging, making promises they continually miss on, which is only going to result in more and more disappointed customers.
Having said that, you absolutey cannot release an update if it cripples an entire AT. However that doesn't change the fact that a company needs to deliver on its promises and/or stated goals consistently to continue to be successful. -
-
It's good to see the company listening to criticism and improving communication with customers. Now work on hitting release dates (or announce dates later than expected and actually hit on some early...). Going by trends, could someone clarify what 'after the thanksgiving holiday' means, are we looking at mid december now?
-
Uh... can't you switch between different buffs at will once you have them?
-
Go DM/SD. At level 50, io'd out, you'll do more damage than MA all around because of soul drain and the fact you can tap into fire or mu for epics and fill in your aoe hole (although niether set has very good aoe anyway), along with some shield charge action. Then on top of that, you're survivability will be better thanks to siphon life.
-
If you need one for any of these and I'm online, gimme a shout at @Cyber-naut. GL on the runs regardless.

I just got done playing the set to 50, and I'm with the OP. The set isn't as bad as I thought it was initially, but it is painfully mediocre, especially on teams.
You get a decent single target attack chain pretty early with the first three attacks. And while the numbers seem to indicate they aren't 'slow', they do feel slow in game. Not em slow, but a bit sluggish.
Repulsing torrent is a weaker shockwave. Once you get the hang of it though, you can get quite a few enemies in the cone, but every once in a while (or all the time if you're not experienced with the power), you'll only get one or two. The kb turns a lot of people off, but I liked it and it was more reliable than I had thought it would be. The power doesn't do much damage but it's a pretty useful mitigation tool.
Burst could be a great aoe, and if you just look at the numbers, it's similar in radius to most aoe's, but it feels smaller than the competition. I found it pretty tough to consistently hit a lot of enemies with it unless they were really tightly grouped.
Focused burst is kinda like focus, but it takes a while to get off. Concentrated strike hits like a truck, but you can time it with a calender, and while I like the look of this set overall, this power could use a new animation, imo.
The key to this set is power siphon. On paper it looks marvelous, but in actual game play, its just not that effective compared to other build up powers. Early on, it's just not up often enough to make up for the sets low to mediocre damage. And once you do start to get it recharged at a reasonable level, the mechanics of the power don't work well in play, again, imo. First of all, just using the power takes a couple of seconds. Then once its going, you need to hit several times just to build it up, that takes some more time. Then by the time you've got a pretty good build up going, everything is pretty much dead, and by the time you get to the next mob, the power is down and your stacked buffs are dropping or gone.
Now I'm not saying that KM is a horrible set, it's just bland. Anything KM does, there's another set that can do it better, if not several things better. -
Thx for the invite amy and kahlan, great run!

Hit me up when you are running these if you need players if I'm on - @Cyber-naut.

Quote:Except that, somewhere around the time of the first movie, there was a story in the newspapers about a highschool girl who had invented something for a school project that top scientists had been working on unsuccessfully for years. I'll have to try to research it, but I think ultimately it went to Dow chemicals... It was too long ago for me to remember clearly. But the point is, a real-life teenaged girl created something that professional scientists were unable to do, but it was "too unrealistic" for Peter to be that smart.
Please do research it, I'd like to know exactly what you were talking about. If her situation was similar to parkers and she invented something on the scale of web fluid that is strong enought to support tons of weight and devices that allowed it to be projected, all on the cheap, you'd have some kind of point. Of course even then, that does nothing to address the idea that it's easier and more sensible to incorporate the ability to spin webs to the mutation that resulted from a radioactive spider bite from a story telling perspective... -
Quote:The reason Rami went with Organic Web Shooters, is the same reason they gave Superman a son in Superman Returns, and the same thing you hear people moaning about all the time here on the forums.
They think something is just unrealistic.
Rami and company didn't think people would buy that Peter Parker, a HS student, could come up with a formula to invent the web fluids (though in the animated series, I liked how they tacked on an innate sense that allowed him to create it), because frankly they think little of American audience.
Which, they're not far off. Like I said, listen to all the people rant about realism on the forums here.
The lack of webshooters is no different than them changing the title of "Let the Right One In" to "Let Me In" because the American audience can't handle a long title.
It's the same reason Juggernaut was a mutant in the X-Men movies. They didnt think people would buy that there could be mutants and magic in the same movie.
The sad part is, they're likely right. American audience are for the most part dumb. Started happening when they needed so and so realism in a setting that is all about the extraordinary.
Aw c'mon, just because some people disagree with you on what is a better origin for spidey's webshooters, you want to try and imply the opposing argument is just 'dumb'? How ironic. -
Quote:I think they're nuts for going 'on the cheap' for spiderman. If marvel/disney can turn profits on Iron Man with their costs, how the hell can a studio screw up a more popular character like spiderman? I actually don't think you need to hire a superstar actor, and from what Ive seen of garfield I think he can do a great job, but if they skimp on the special effects, that could be a disaster.I agree that while it may not make gobs of cash, it could still be profitable. The fact that they are doing a reboot and getting a new cast at a much lower cost than the original cast almost ensures that they will make a profit. Now, if what I have read is true, the budget for the effects is much smaller than the 'original' SM movies. This also goes a long way towards making a movie profitable before it is released.
However, I do not see this movie grabbing the public like the original SM (and SM2) or Iron Man (or IM2) or...The Avengers. While the public definitely recognizes the character, I would expect that most of them would say "Cool - new SM flick! Wait...it's the origin story again????? Really???". That is not good for business or for drwaing in the casual viewer....heck, even long-time comic book fans (like myself) think a reboot is an odd course to take.
If the other Marvel movies are clearing $300 million domestic (Iron Man), just clearing $100 million (Hulk) is a PR disaster even if it is profitable. -
Quote:If he's going to spin webs the way spiders do, then he needs a fold-down flap in the backside of his Spidey suit.
His dad wasn't working on a web fluid, PETER re-purposed it for that. The kid's smart. Haven't you ever met a smart person? I mean a genius-level-IQ type of person. They don't think they way you do.
As I say, there is plenty of room for exploration regarding those things as a subplot. Since it goes to the core of the character, it's worthy stuff to add.
So for the web fluid to be organic it has to fire out of his ***, lol? Last time I checked spiders and humans have different body composition, so webs firing from spidey's wrists can be easy enough to explain via this fact. I guess the mutation could have resulted in a closer spider-like mutation with extra eyes and appendages too, but it didn't.
And my argument is not that a kid can't be a genius or that a kid can't invent anything incredible. My argument is that it makes more sense for the webbing to be part of the mutation, rather than create another ridiculously hard to believe scenerio that isn't necessary. If we're already being asked to believe that a radioactive spider bite can result in a mutation that creates a superhuman spiderman, you might as well tie a power that already is relatable to that situation, than create an entirely different scenerio for one of the powers. Going further, the new scenerio doesn't fit into the set up either. Parker, a HS kid, and even after that, is poor as dirt. Where is he getting the resources to create this incredible invention, both the fluid and the shooter devices, and keeping up what seems to be an endless supply, when he's usually scraping up money for rent? And while parker is supposed to be very bright, that can be easy enough to demonstrate without having him needlessly create a synthetic webbing that is strong enough to support a buick in his bedroom, and just so happens to go perfectly with his spider theme, especially when its easier and more believable to simply incorporate that into his mutation.
Having said that, obviously this is all a matter of opinion. Obviously the original origin of the character had the web shooter devices, and some people prefer to leave the original story alone. Even I didn't like the idea of changing the story when I first heard the idea of organic web shooters in the lead up to the movie, but for the reasons I've already gone over, I changed my mind. Ultimately, this new movie won't succeed or fail based on what kind of explanation they give for the webshooters (unless they really screw up the script...), it will succeed or fail based on story and the performance of the actors. And chances are they'll change some things from some of the various comic book stories that also changed some of the things from the original story.
But most people did enjoy the raimi spider man series overall, even if a few people, apparently including yourself, did not, because overall it did remain true to the character of spiderman and peter parker. The oddest critique of that series I continually heard, even while leaving the theater a couple of times, were people complaining that peter parker was too nerdy, or not cool enough, and wondering how they could miss the point of the character so badly and still claim to be spiderman fans. Having said that, I would like to see more of the wisecracking spidey always does when facing off with villains, that was the only thing I think raimi underplayed in his movies (and 100% less song and dance routines.... lol). -
Quote:"Easier" does not mean "better."
The best version of the web fluid thing was in Ultimate Spider-Man by Bendis. That's where it was shown to be his dad's unfinished formula and he'd been working on it for years. Peter's breakthrough comes after the spider bite, so one might say his abilities also allowed him to clear his mind or concentrate better, or perhaps it was simply a coincidence. Bendis dispensed with the entire matter in less than two pages of the comic, succinctly summing it all up.
One reason why he doesn't apply this knowledge to other fields of endeavor is because of the web fluid's limited use. It only lasts for an hour or two before dissolving -- which might be useful in construction or something, but how does anyone explain that they've come up with this idea? (Although that might be a good subplot for a second movie, now that I think about -- Pete uses someone as a cut-out to market the fluid, but they take the lion's share of the profits. Pete can't sue the guy because he'd reveal himself to be Spidey, and so on.) Then there's the notion that it simply never occurs to Peter to capitalize on the web fluid, as other characters have commented that he could make a fortune with it. He *is* rather distracted by events in his life, plus his mind doesn't work like that. I don't recall if Reed Richards or anyone have analyzed the stuff, but that's certainly one thing that could be examined in a movie. I'd rather see that sort of thing instead of the scene in the lunch room and fight in the hallway.
As far as explaining who his dad was, you don't even need dialogue for that. Especially after Uncle Ben is killed, just have Peter in his room reflecting on his life. Just *show* that his dad was a chemist as Peter pulls out old newspaper clippings, photos and certificates, then have him glance over at the formula on the board again. Just a brief shot to establish it's both important and related to Pete's dad. Have that board in the background from the start of the film to establish its presence. Maybe even have Ben or May yell up to him to get a move on or he'll be late for school as he stands concentrating on the thing. You can dispense with all of that stuff in less than a minute, simply allowing the audience to draw the correct conclusions by association via montage. Maybe even throw in a bit of dialogue for the slower viewers.
On bus:
Mary Jane: What were you doing?
Pete: Looking at my dad's formu - nevermind, just geeky stuff.
Or even more on the nose, but lame:
Mary Jane: Looking at your dad's formula again?
Pete: Still.
Mary Jane: You'll get it, you're the smartest guy I know.
Pete: You so need to get out more.
A guy gets bitten by a radioactive spider and mutates, gaining spider like abilities including the ability to create webs.
A guy gets bitten by a radioactive spider and mutates, gaining spider like abilities except for the ability to create webs. Luckily, his dead father was working on a web like substance and his HS son picks up the work (and wow, what were the chances that his dead dad's work would go with his new spiderman abilities!), creates a powerful webbing solution that the worlds top scientists would marvel at, creates web shooters of similar technological brilliance, and maintains a steady supply of this fluid as a HS student and then college student working part time as a photographer.
And you think choice 2 makes more sense? Gonna have to disagree with you on that one, lol. -
Quote:Exactly. It makes way more sense that this incredibly strong webbing is the result of his mutation than some HS kid invents it in his bedroom. The kid is supposed to be really smart, but he shouldn't be inventing **** in his room that the worlds greatest scientists can't replicate in the best labs technology has to offer. Making the webbing organic was a great move in the last movies. The thing about the web shooters is that I have heard the other argument:
"Peter inventing them is so unbelievable since it is a substance that apparently no one else is able to reproduce, it made Pete into this supergenius. So if he was so hard up for cash, why doesn't he used that smarts to make money in the comics/movies? He should be on the level of Tony Stark based on what he is able to make the web fluid do and withstand. Pete being THAT smart and in his situation is a big stretch."
