Visit help.ncsoft.com and start a new Support Ticket. Paste the entire contents of the email, including raw/long headers, in along with something like "I got this email". NCSoft Support will do the rest.

Quote:I'd like to see the panic log for this if you can find it - I haven't been able to duplicate that issue. Also of note for those folks that run a lot of apps like me. NEVER run VMWare and CoH at the same time. Not only will it crash CoH but it will cause a system kernel fault. Very ugly.
Also, WoW has a much different and more simplistic method of rendering characters and scenes than CoH does. CoH makes use of multiple layers of textures, which uses up a lot more memory and requires more precise timing. -
Quote:Try an Archive and Install (and import user data) instead of a regular install. That usually fixes those kind of errors.Yeah I heard that about 10.6.. My friend bought the family pck (5 licenses I think) and had one to spare, he tried to install here with me last week and in the end i got a 'error in installation' with no further explanation, idk why, always installed Mac OS since 10.0 with no problems. Well since 9.0
Also before you install, run Disk Utility (from the Utilities menu) and check for errors. -
That's kind of why it's not really supported. You're also using an older graphics driver in 10.5.8 (the 10.6 one is newer) that's making the problems worse.
You might be able to get CoH for Mac mildly playable by messing with the settings a bit. I think a couple of people have done so already. -
The GMA 950 isn't officially supported, but a few people have had success using it anyway.
-
Complete freezes are very rare for me with the Live client. Check your Console Log (Applications > Utilities > Console Log) after the next freeze/reboot and post the last few lines here.
Also Show Log List (you don't have to wait for the next crash to do this part) and expand /Library/Logs - not the one with the ~ in front of it - and see if there's anything recent in the PanicReporter section. If you have one of those, post as much of that log as you can fit - only the first paragraph or so is useful anyhow. -
Send a support request (help.ncsoft.com). Meanwhile I may have to go to the Apple Store next week and try out CoH on one of the newer Macbooks.
-
Does the trackpad behave the same or just the mouse?
-
Try also using the Reset Keybinds button on the Keymapping options page. There might be some corrupted settings there.
Are you using an older Macbook with Intel GMA 950 or a newer one with the nvidia 9400M? -
If you have the Logitech software installed, try removing that first (then rebooting) and then trying CoH. Sometimes software can re-map clicks, which messes with CoH.
-
There are instructions on binds in my guide (linked in the signature).

Quote:Drag to move it. The updater will download a new updater and put it where it's supposed to be. It has to be that way to get around Vista and Windows 7's access limits. When you say drag, is that move or copy? Win 7 moves the file unless I hold Ctrl then it copies.
That's basically what I tried after it does the checksum it starts with the hour plus download.
Here's a video of it working, maybe my issue is copying before running the updater. -
The iMacs and Mac Pro's have ATI video. The Macbook Pro has a "hybrid SLI" video configuration from nVidia. You can select the 9400 (integrated/shared) if you want better battery life and less heat, or the 9600 (dedicated) if you want more power. The selection is done from the Energy Saver panel ("higher performance" for the 9600, "better battery life" for the 9400) in MacOS X.

First, Copy the contents of City of Heroes to: c:\Program Files (x86)\City of Heroes. Then dig into that directory and throw out the Coh.checksum.
After that, find cohupdater.exe in that directory and drag it to the desktop. Double click it, and wait for it to do a quick verify. After it's done, throw out the extra files it created on the desktop.
The next time you run CoH, it'll work fine.
There used to be a knowledge base article about this at help.ncsoft.com but I can't find it at the moment. -
CoH will *run* on any Intel processor based Mac on MacOS 10.5.7 or later. It's officially supported on all but the Intel GMA 950 video hardware (it will run, but with quite a few flaws, and Support won't help you with them).
The ideal current hardware is any Intel processor based Mac with dedicated, i.e. non-shared, video. The Macbook Pro, the Mac Pro, and iMacs with ATI video would provide the best experience.
It will also work pretty well on the nVidia 9400M integrated (shared) video fairly well, it's just not recommended to use maximum settings. -
Try downloading it from:
ftp://client.coh.com/EU/MAC_CoH_Installer_EU.dmg
That seemed to work fine for me. -
Sorry to see you go Nivine, best of luck with the new job!
-
Open a ticket, and also turn down World Detail and Character Detail to 100%.

By the Alt key, do you mean the one that says "Option" also or are you using a Windows keyboard (one with an Alt and a Windows key)?
On Windows keyboards, translation environments often reverse the Windows and Alt key (so Windows is Alt, and Alt is Cmd), so that might be your problem. -
I can't say for sure because I have an English keyboard but...there's a feature in MacOS System Preferences that might help. Go to System Preferences, and then Language and Text, and then Input Sources.
Check the box next to U.S. English or British (try both if necessary). Then check Show Input Menu In Menu Bar.
Now you'll have a little flag next to the clock. Click that and switch the language before you run CoH - or during, but you'll have to use Cmd-Enter and go to Windowed Mode to see the flag while you're playing. -
Visit help.ncsoft.com and open a ticket so the devs can track any potentially widespread issues.
After that, post the last few lines of your Console log (Applications > Utilities > Console log) after a crash here. Hopefully that'll provide a clue the devs can use. -
Quote:Post the last few lines of your Console log (Applications > Utilities > Console) and I'll see if there's any pattern.Oh noes a crash to desktop?? Try a complete crash, every ten minutes because of their stupid **** updater problems! This could be affecting you too, been fraggled since Friday!
Meanwhile, if anyone else is experiencing more frequent than normal crashes with the Mac client, open a ticket with Support (help.ncsoft.com). That's how the devs track widespread issues. -
Other things you might want to try is use Disk Utility to Verify Disk and make sure there aren't errors (that would show its ugly head when you create a large swap file like CoH uses) and repair the permissions. Also try playing with the ipod or iphone not plugged into USB.
-
I can give you some general advice, but for more I'd need more info from you, such as: What other applications do you run while you have CoH running? Do you have any USB devices plugged in?
General advice meanwhile:
- It looks like you have enough RAM, so that should alleviate it somewhat.
- Try using /reloadgfx *after* every third zone change or so. Using it before has no effect, and usually causes a crash.
- Turn on advanced graphics settings in the game and set all your detail levels no higher than 100%. Higher values uses more video memory and increases the chance of a crash (they're related to video memory usage - reloadgfx clears the vram, that's why it works).
- Play in full-screen rather than windowed mode. Windowed mode has a separate bug that causes it to freeze if you do a certain combination of switching to another application while video memory use is high.
- Complete freezes are very rare - sometimes it takes a while to crash to desktop, though, so be patient. Sometimes using Cmd-Option-Esc (the force-quit key combo) speeds it up a bit.
If the crashes are more frequent than it seems like it should be (I can crash 1, maybe 2 times a night using the techniques above, but sometimes go several days without one) post the last few lines of your Console log (Applications > Utilities > Console) and maybe I can find a hidden cause.
Most important, hang in there - Issue 17 closed beta is coming up (per the announcement on Fri) so a new Mac client may be coming with it. Apple is releasing MacOS X 10.6.3 practically any day now, which has much better OpenGL support. The two together might produce a more stable CoH experience. -
Hmm. I went looking for it too, it appears to have been removed or relocated somewhere I can't find it.
I think my guide still has instructions for installing it the hard way.
