Everyone please check the troubleshooting guide in my signature to make sure you're running the newest build of CoH for Mac.
Also, are you all using Macs with ATI video? I didn't have any black-screen problem, but I have an nvidia-based Mac. -
Go to Users > (your username) > Preferences and throw the "City of Heroes Preferences" folder in the trash. Then start up City of Heroes and change all your settings again.
-
It's in the Graphics & Audio settings in-game.
-
Right-click can be accomplished by (depending on your product):
- Placing two fingers together on the trackpad and tapping the lower button area with your thumb (Macbook Pro, Macbook, and Magic Trackpad);
- Holding down Ctrl while you click (all Mac models);
- Tapping the right-hand side of the single button surface (Mighty Mouse, Magic Mouse). -
Two alternatives here:
1. Hold down the Fn key in the lower left corner to use the function keys.
2. Go to System Settings, and then Keyboard. There's a checkbox there labeled "Use all F1, F2 etc keys as standard function keys". Turn that on. After that, you'll have to hold down Fn to use the feature keys like dimming and itunes control. -
Usually what I do is look up several brands of the device, and then before buying go to their support site to see if they have either a driver for Mac or support for one. If they don't, sometimes searching Google for (fill in the blank) for Mac you'll find third party drivers for the device too.
-
Usually they're stored in the City of Heroes application folder - usually in Contents > Resources > transgaming > c_drive and then either coh or Program Files > City Of Heroes. I see a file there called keybinds.txt.
You get to Contents by right-clicking the application and selecting Show Package Contents. -
First, use the links in my signature to check and make sure you're using the latest Mac client. After that, read and post to this thread: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=251072
-
You have to set that inside the game in Graphics & Audio settings. Set the resolution to the highest available.
-
Sounds like you may be using an older version of the Mac client. Check out the two guides in my signature - particularly about checking the game client version and updating it - and let us know if you see any improvement.
-
Unfortunately, the Mac App store has some fairly strict criteria that prevent CoH for Mac from being listed. Among many others, the fact that CoH updates itself would cause it to be rejected.
The App Store is great for helping small developers out. But for a bigger one like NCSoft with it's own distribution network, it's probably not worth it to them. -
It's definitely getting somewhere. Hang in there a little bit longer.

From my (edited) Troubleshooting Guide:
Q. Im getting corrupted graphics in-game, and it causes frequent crashes.
A. Some versions of City of Heroes for Mac are not patching to the correct version. Try the following if you suspect this problem:
Download the City of Heroes client from your NCSoft Account page and check to see if it has the same issue.
*make sure you check safe mode the first time you run it and change your graphics settings there or it will just give you the black screen. If you forget to, then just delete your preference file again and launch it again in safe mode.* -
Try the stuff in the troubleshooting guide in my signature and let me know how it goes.

I have not given up on getting an improved Mac client for CoH. Keep posting to the "Crashing Often?" thread, it's our best chance by keeping the Mac related problems in a nice, convenient place.

Not yet, it's going to take a lot of testing. Especially since I discovered Crossover 10 has a problem with all custom buttons (including in some other games).
-
System Preferences > Keyboard > Check the "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys"
Normally you have to hold down the Fn key in the lower left corner of the keyboard to use the actual F-keys, but that checkbox reverses that behavior. -
See two posts above, that might help.

If you're getting an error before the DMG even mounts then you have an incomplete download.
-
I see the empty buttons now - I created a clean winxp bottle and installed Mids again to see. Now I have to figure out what the difference is from the original bottle. Could be as simple as a missing font.
-
The .NET Framework 3.0 you should be installing is in the Runtime Support Components section of the Crossover Software installer. There's also a community supported .NET installer, but that doesn't work.
-
This just in: Mids works with Crossover Games 10!
You have to create a winxp "bottle" and add the Runtime Component called .NET 3.0. After that, point it at the Mids installer and it works. -
The Mapserver errors are server-side issues. As for the black screen, it's annoying but harmless. Hopefully it'll be fixed soon.
