The last time I did this mission, I lucked out in that for some reason, one of the spawns meant for one of the generators actually aggroed one of those Nemesis Mole Machines. Those machines have something like a million hit points or whatever. By the time I found them, they were only halfway done killing it.
I wasn't about to interfere, haha! I just watched them from a distance. Then they finally destroyed it and it blew up in their faces, they all died instantly. -
That new rep feature is pretty useless. The way it's being used here, you'd almost feel like you were in high school again. I'm sure whoever -rep'd you sure showed you to never get out of line again! Muhaha... etc.

This whole thread has been one small post for a woman or man, and one giant leap for humankind.
I use "he or she" or "they", or otherwise a more descriptive type of pronoun depending on the context or situation at hand. The reason I do this is that I find the 'masculine pronoun default' rule to be both archaic and sexist; one relic of a bygone era whose values are best left abandoned, and it needs to be changed. The only way you can change it is if you yourself stop using it and use something else, and thus lead by example. That's one of the ways languages evolve.
But as seen in this tiny thread, some people can only be dragged into the future kicking and screaming. -
Quote:That's all it would take for you to stop playing the game permanently? That's not very much...The main reason I'll not play Champions is the no unique names feature they have. If they do that here, instant uninstall. Just one person's personal preference, but thought I'd cast my vote anyway, as seeing the suggestion to remove the restriction gave me a gross feeling, ick.

Quote:Dear Devs, please delete all the server and character data and all backups of that data if and when this game finally gets shut down, in order to prevent such a silly thing from ever happening.I can envision a time, long after CoH is gone, when some law firm makes a shell company to buy all the former CoH intellectual property, then has researchers go see if any players went on to make successful hero movies or comics or tv shows etc, and if they find any worth any money, find a character that person played that resembles one in their valuable IP and sue over it. For a nice settlement probably that is less than what it would've cost to successfully defend their rights...
Thanks! -
Quote:At this point I'm more likely to believe it's instability in the game itself, as no other game I'm currently playing is causing this kind of behavior, on my computer. Still, it's perplexing; my friend who lives downstairs from me and who also plays CoH on a computer with very similar (but not exact) specs as my own has not been experiencing these kinds of crashes. The game has been unstable for me since just before double-xp weekend. It has nothing to do with my computer, it's the game client that is buggy. I've /bug'd it a few times to no avail.
In case you're wondering it crashes on both WindowsVista SP2 and Windows7 RC. ATI HD4800 series video card with the latest drivers. Yes I tried the suggested video driver crash fix and no it didn't help because it isn't the video driver.
I am on a verge of having to find a new game to play and it makes me sad.
I suppose when I get home tonight, I ought to put up the exact specs of my machine here, which might help to figure out exactly what's going on. -
Quote:I did this about two months ago when I was having problems with Caesar IV, of all things. Because the game would crash and cause a reset if I tried to play it in windowed mode. Attempting to update the video drivers caused a whole other set of problems to occur; most notably, the 7800gs would not respond to the most recent nVidia drivers, no matter what I tried to do. They'd install ok, but there was some apparent bug with trying to get the drivers and the video card to actually communicate with one another. I finally had no choice but to re-install the older drivers.I would try an uninstall and reinstall of the video driver...not sure which exactly is going to be best for your 7800gs, probably stick with the version you have. Also, you could try updating your Direct X.
Quote:If you still have problems, I would run at least 5 passes with memtest86 to rule out the RAM. -
SpeedFan was on and monitoring my GPU temp, which tended to stay around 52C last night, only reaching 60C at one point. My videocard (GeForce 7800 GS) has gotten as high as 65C with no ill effects. Likewise, my CPU (Athlon XP 3200+) never got any hotter than about 53C last night.
Playing for a while isn't the sole cause, because before joining the TF last night I had already been playing the game for a while, and I also played it for two hours the night before, and there were no crashes at all during those times. I crashed once during the second to last mission on the TF, and several more times during the final mission. The only thing I can think of is that each time, there was a flurry of combat activity around me, and heavy lag.
If it was a RAM issue, I'd have expected such crashes to happen a lot more randomly. I suppose it could be a driver issue, thought a few nights ago I had participated in a zombie raid in Steel Canyon, which was also a flurry of combat activity around me and heavy lag, and there was no crashing that time. -
Well, I just finished the LGTF, which shouldn't have been a big deal really since I've done it so many times already. But as the TF wore on, the game would totally crash more and more often. It was the kind of crash where the screen would go black and the soundcard would loop what was in its buffer over and over. The only option was the reset button.
It must have happened about a half dozen times, most of those on the final mission. It was very annoying.
I should note that didn't happen until I got late into the TF, and no one else seemed to be crashing (though there was one team member who mysteriously disappeared early on and never came back, so who knows). I'd been running the game for about two hours before I decided to join the TF, and there were no crashes at all at that time. And I'd been playing just fine for the past week now. So yeah, I have no idea! -

After plotting out an 80 card dragon/thallid deck, and finding out that it would cost me about $160 if I purchased the cards individually (because so many of them are Rare or Mythic Rare) which got me to wondering if maybe I should try my luck by buying several Shards of Alara, Alara Reborn, Time Spiral and Planar Chaos boosters, I'm no longer so concerned about the high in-game prices for purple and PvP IOs...
What!! -
Oh I take it back. You're not CEOs, you're consumers! They're always wanting you to do something and somehow not do that same thing, at the same time.
I'm suddenly reminded of those commercials which I only vaguely remember, where this woman wanted a sandwich with bread that was toasted, but not toasted, or something. -
You want players to compete against each other, so that it's one player versus another player, ergo player versus player, but you want it to somehow not be PvP?
You must be a CEO! -

5) Melee Centric: Did you know that Arachnos Soldiers are weak to melee? Cimerorans tear my Bane Spider character up, even on lowest difficulty settings. The stacking -def(all) from all those spammed Broadsword attacks makes Cimeroran Traitors just about the only enemies that threaten my bots/FF mastermind, too. Let me guess: you're a tank with a resistance-based primary?
[/ QUOTE ]
Nope. When I bring a tank it's an Ice tank, pure defense but with strong debuff resists. My second-favorite characters to use have been my fire/kin corr and fire/kin controller, neither of which has much defense to speak of. My current fav is my elec/shield brute, again defense based and without nearly the debuff resists my icer has.
[/ QUOTE ]
My robots/traps MM has no problem with Cimororans either. One bot usually eats it every second mob or so, but as long as they die and not me, then that's the point! I just summon up a new one to replace it. -
[ QUOTE ]
- When they made this TF, someone apparently thought that slagging your way through mindless gobs of mobs = fun. I beg to differ. For me, slagging my way through mindless gobs of mobs = tedious and boring even when they give me xp.
[/ QUOTE ]
But... the whole game is made like this...???
Are you sure it's not that you're just tired of playing CoH in general? Because it certainly sounds like that from here. Maybe you need a break! -
Does Myers become equally stunned when he gets a ticket for speeding? Afterall, he was obeying the laws of physics... >.>

Follow-up article: http://www.nola.com/news/index.ssf/2...web_sound.html
It appears that Mr. Chuck Cook is as lazy as the good professor when it comes to writing. He links to this thread in his article, yet makes no mention of all the legitimate ethics issues and continues to treat the professor's word as truth. He also repeats the worst examples of the out-of-game abuses from his first article and cherry-picks responses to make it sound like all gamers respond that way.
[/ QUOTE ]
Likely he's trying to build up a solid resume that will impress the powers that be over at Fox News. One day, he will make it big time! -
[ QUOTE ]
...I feel that the story that he wrote reflects extremely poorly on the community, as if we're all somewhere on the spectrum between a bunch of high school conformists and fringe psychotics firing off death threats over a game...

I guess we know how Furries must feel now, eh? -
Because... it's a very rare thing when you witness someone being such a creative jerk. There's certainly creative people out there, and there's certainly lots of jerks out there. And some creative people are jerks. But it's rare to see someone employ their creativity in such a well planned and meticulous fashion... for the sheer purpose of being a jerk.

I prefer to think he's a dadaistic professor who managed to predict that games like this one would exist by the time he earned his doctorate, and decided a long time ago that he was going to pick on a few select people who didn't even exist when he was making said decision.
-

You have to admit, he had a well thought out and meticulous plan to both grief and troll the PvPers and the players of this game in general. He actually spent years in school just to earn a PhD, so he could be in the proper position to "write a psychology/sociology paper" about a certain PvP subgame on a certain MMO.
I mean, this needed years of planning. Decades. Who goes through all the trouble of earning a doctorate and waiting for just the right MMO to launch, just to rub their nose at a few PvPers, some of whom might not have even been alive when he first started college? Nemesis himself could not have plotted a craftier plan. Its very design is Kaufmanian. In a dryly humorous sort of way, at least. -

It's ten dollars and you get to be a transsexual.

A ten dollar SRS? That sounds rather dubious...
But if it were really that cheap, a lot more sad people could be happy. -

The devs know the forumites too well.
You see, they did make something most of you would like. Because they know now, after five years, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that you are not happy unless you have something to complain about. Vociferously. Repeatedly.
All the doom sayers, all the rage quitters, they know you all will eventually come back. They know your life isn't complete unless there's some detail out there to which you can target all your bile.
They've just given you all something new upon which to focus your ire. Hate you? Quite the contrary, the devs love you!!! -
(QR)
This thread, seriously? Why is this even still here? Is this really bothering anyone? And if your answer is "yes", then I think you need to go find some real issue to worry about and stop wasting everyone's time. This is a non-issue. A stupid thing even be concerned about.
A transsexual or gender-bending character isn't any more of a "mature theme" than a homosexual character would be. I mean, unless you subscribe to some pretty stupid notions about homosexuals. In that case, there's no helping you because people can only enlighten themselves and if you're gonna get so hung up over such silly things then... yeah, please, go away. Haha!
And yeah, that's it! Too sleepy... I go now to dream of Ranma's girl form. -

Can't multiple KB attacks landing at once add together for a higher mag KB?
[/ QUOTE ]Yes, but they'd have to hit in the sam server tick, which is extremely unlikely.
[/ QUOTE ]
Tank runs in.
30 Council Soldiers drop grenades at his feet.
Tank goes flying.
Outside alpha strikes, it's unlikely, but a tank would do well to slot extras for those KB heavy alphas.
[/ QUOTE ]
My WP/DB tank has +14 points of knockback protection, thanks to Indomitable Will and the Steadfast Protection IO.
I've noticed that sometimes it ticks up to +18 for some reason, but only for an instant.
I've pondered putting in more KB protection, but so far 14 points seems like it's enough. I really wish there were similar IOs for Disorient, Hold, Sleep, and Fear protection.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm curious as to why you wasted a slot for a Steadfast IO on your WP tank when you own in-set mez resist toggle reduces the magnitude of KB to 0 before it ever affects you (in-set KB protection has a KB resistance of 10,000%). The only things that could knock you back are things that use unresisted knockback, such as the Rikti bombs from invasion events.
[/ QUOTE ]
I didn't slot in the set to get the KB protection, actually. I got it to inch my hitpoints and recovery rate up. I'm up to 3010 HP right now (and 4.10% recovery sans any outside buffs). I don't think I can push it much further; there's only a few accolade bonuses left for me to acquire that could push it higher. The +3% defense to all attacks is pretty good, too. -
