Quote:You may as well ask away then scooter it's almost done. That looks awesome and will refrain from asking dumb questions until you say it's done.
There was a time 15 years ago when I could pencil draw comic book quality pictures.
and now I wish I kept them.
I'm sorry I have to say this your avatar kinda creeps me out.
You should try drawing again then you might be a bit rusty as I am but you probably don't totally suck at it either.
Then you guys probably don't want to run into me in a dark alley somewhere mwahahahah
P.S. You two will have to excuse VexXxa... she seems to have a secret love for tang that she tries (just a little too hard I might add) to deny

Quote:Looks fantastic, C.Rob!!! And you thought you could hide your talents from us! BTW, those drum sticks next to the piece mean that you are a drummer as well?
Is it too late to runaway?
Oops didn't see those in the thumbnail when I went to linkify it... I blame Envee for that!
I was tuned into her FTW web radio (that apparently runs every Tuesday night) broadcast
and she was taking requests for "tunes for the artists" so I was jamming between bouts of sketching.
Yeah I drum, sing lead vocals, lift weights and build custom computers too... my hobbies are all over the place lol.
(Side note... wasn't there an introduction thread around here somewhere?)
Thank you Galadiman.
Oh yeah and Update! It's almost done now and though I see bunches of little details I want to fix/improve when I
look at it (gah I'm rusty!) hopefully Bobby will still be happy with the end result.

Quote:Great piece you got there. I like how she almost appears to be riding a tidal wave of flora into battle.Another addition to my budding art collection. Cric does some really nice work.
Neverglade is my Plant/Storm controller - I've been playing her quite a bit lately.

Think I'm going to hold off on any new pieces for a while - my bank account can't handle it.
Bonus points for the clever portmanteau in your characters name.

P.S. Best of Luck Scooter, may we all someday be chatting on the forums of some cool game you helped create!

Quote:On the first image I really like the wings they look almost like overlapping razorblades. The power fx swirling around the handLet me know what ya think, as always good and bad criticism is always welcome

http://Temperus.deviantart.com/art/R...nked-135657644
is a nice touch and is well drawn (it conveys electricity just by shape). The pose is fine and the anatomy is pretty accurate.
What I might suggest for con/crit would be
1: His right leg should be rotated a bit downward to hang a bit straighter... it's too bowed to be something
you could pull off without having something under your feet to push against.
2: The pinky needs to be shorter... it appears the same length as the ring finger.
3: The lightning seems to be arcing off the wings at random points, it should be coming off a point
like maybe the tip of the top row of "blades" (half way down the inner wings line)... also if the
energy is being struck/generated at the apex of both wings (hard to tell with pencils but it seems
to be coming from there) it should maybe travel down the inner edge which if the wings are metal
would be a cool lighting effect and could even be a secondary light source for the shading (the main
being the bolt coming off the hand).
4: the buildings, a few too many unless you want a crowded cityscape but if you do then they need
more variety... too cookie cutter. Some different shapes and or caps maybe even a lightning rod or two
on a tall tower nearby getting struck by lightning from the sky would make an interesting background touch?
Overall a very sharp looking piece, I'd like to see it when finished.

Quote:So I'm trying something in photoshop. I want to take in-game screen caps, and edit them so they come out more like comic illustrations, or even like cell shaded drawings. Here's my first attempt. How'd I do? (click on the image for the full size version)

Quote:Warning! WALL OF TEXT AHEAD lolDrawing organically involves no setup or layout sketches ahead of time, no draw through or bluelining it. Just putting down the pencil on the page and drawing the finished product right onto the paper. It's something that's extremely hard to do and pretty rare to find done well, whereas copying a picture from another source freehand is much less difficult and more common of a skill amongst artistic types.
That's why I was wondering if you've referenced this from anything, like a magazine pic, another screenshot or comic page. If it's entirely out of your head, then it's extremely impressive.
You can just skip through the thread and look at the pretty pics if not interested in my method...
I won't hold it against you... much.
Ok I think I understand you now Suichiro.
The answer to that is a qualified... it depends. lol
I guess I can describe my process and leave it to you to figure out if it fits your definition...
I have never tried blue-lining but have heard of it, (that's more of a digital thing right... using
the computer to take out blue lines you did with earlier as an undersketch?) so I don't know
much about that process since none of my art is done with a computer yet (I'm trying to learn
bits and pieces when I have the time) and I don't really ever use a pencil much anymore, except
for shading (or when I'm being really careful and can't afford to make a mistake... like a portrait
commission) I can post and example of this later.
I pretty much do all my sketching/drawing/detail work with a Parker Jotter pen right on paper.
On the one hand it's good because it forces me to "get it right the first time" because it's ink and
I can't undo it if I screw up but on the other hand I have screwed up many a drawing (though
not so much any more) or just drew myself into a corner where I'm afraid to finish a piece because
I like what I have so far and don't want to mess it up. A side effect of years of doing it this way
has been I don't rely much on an underlying sketch so much... if a subject is familiar to me, I just draw it.
I can't put down too many sketchy lines because I can't take them out later (I'm hoping learning
digital will will fix this aspect and allow me to improve faster and not worry about mistakes so much).
If a subject is unfamiliar to me I may rough sketch it (in ink) a few times first on another sheet of
paper until I have a good idea of where I'm going then I pull out the sheet I will be doing the drawing
on and just go or I sometimes stare at an image on a screen while I put down the indicator
lines, where the top of the head is bottom of the chin etc (but not where the eyes nose and mouth
go because you can draw over a chin indicator line with the actual chin line and hide it but if you
draw lines where the eyes go or a vertical line for the nose you can't hide them and they mar the
finished piece), and then just go. You can see my indicator lines for the hair in the first Lj pic of this
thread to the right and left of her chin and at the top-right section of the page in the white
space... I threw those (the lines marking what way the hair will fall) down in like 30 seconds and
jumped right into detailing the hair from there which you can see in the strands closest to the
face where I'm making a first pass and darkening it in.
For the Pic of Lj I stared at all the versions on DA (all the while muttering something to the effect
of "gah they are all different... which one is right!") marked a few indicator lines on the page
and then flipped back to the forums and found a post of Bobby's so I had his avatar thumbnail
to peer at periodically to see if what I was drawing was at least close to that.
Drawing long wavy detailed hair and intricate eyes comes easy to me so I never need reference
for those (the exception being white hair, like Xllusya's, is hard for me because you have to define
it with only a few lines or it no longer looks white) and I always start detailing them first but stuff
like nose and lips and fingers are sometimes challenging which is why eyes and hair in my pics have
a lot of detail but nose and lips are mostly blank or get done last.
Ok that's probably more info than you wanted so I will end the stream of consciousness/run-away post here lol
Is this method organic? I don't know.
If you have other ? or want any clarification, ask... in other news...
Update!

Quote:Lol, Practice Practice Practice is what gets you teh mad skillz!I really need to practice more...I am woefully outclassed.
I bow to your awesome art skills.
as for the other sketch my guess is if Liv Tyler and Angelina had a baby.
(What! it could happen)
***Bows in return***
Is it wrong that it took me a full minute to realize that Liv and Angelina having a love child
would be physically impossible? ...I must've been distracted or something lol. I guess it's just me then lol ok.
Oh and I have another sketch to post... I actually posted it this morning around 6:30 am but
by 6:45 it disappeared along with two other posts made within the same 15 mins or so grrrrr
So here (again) is a sketch of one of my mains Xllusya Goddess of Illusions, Sunlight and Lightning.
Sketch is free hand and mostly without reference (though I did look at a screencap to make sure I was
drawing the pattern of the armor right) but I've had Xllusya for years and have sketched her before so
I don't need to see much to draw her. It's about 22 mins into the sketch and I probably
overshaded her eyes already (a habit of mine apparently) lol
Soooo wacha guys think?

Quote:Was wondering about that it did seem "good weighted" to me as well... when I had equalI found out that just by the numbers of good and bad rep I have, the good rep is heavily weighted, making it almost impossible to keep bad rep. Once again, the system is even more LUL worthy than originally thought. It's like in game yellow titles. It means NOTHING.
I demand a system where you can get spankings for negative rep. Now that'll be jawesome. :3
red/green it showed +1 green and now that I have almost 2 to 1 in favor of green it shows...
+1 green??? Does anyone actually have a red rep and does it stay that way or "right" itself
with the passage of time? Either way it's not very accurate.

Quote:Ahh ok cool thanks for that so where did you come up with a tap dancing zombie pirate? Another game? Role play?I've also noticed the lack of gender option on this forum...
Like Battlewraith already said, my CoH avatar is the G-Man from the Half-Life series. Really awesome -- and creepy -- character!
My CoH character is actually based on my original character (also my DA icon), not the opposite.
Okay, done hijacking the thread. My deepest apologies!
I wouldn't worry too much, the thread is about the art based on your character so your not off topic.
If you want to be on the safe side just make sure to say "I LOVE eeet!" somewhere in your post then it's not a total thread jack
P.S. Did I mention I Love eeet! BW?

Quote:Respect. If that's all it takes to ruffle your feathers, then you're likely better off not coming around here. I mean, seriously, there's going to be much worse from lots of other sources. CR was being truthful, not jerkish. Free stuff is free, you get what you pay for.
I personally intend to pay.
Oh and good on you for commissioning Cashoo she deserves something for all this great free arty goodness.
P.S. If you keep this up Suichi you'll never get your rep back to red
Quote:Forgive and forget.
In other news, I will be doing Jophiel and Suichiro's toons next!
and YAYZ for Jophiel and Suichiro, grats!
Jophiel (is it Princess you submitted?) I absolutely love what what Lady Judgement did with
Polish Princess I can't wait to see what Cashoo's applied talent will come up with.
And it's always great to see what people do with Massacre Melanie that "Army of
Dorkness" (well pretty much anything DrunkFu does is awesome)
poster with the 3 little Mel's crakcs me up... not to mention the Graver in your sig... yeah I'm jealous -
Quote:Proud don't put words in my mouth...Quote:and if not well then don't ruin it for the rest of us. Peace.
I knew that there was a reason why I had avoided these forums for so long and now I have it.
I never said exploiting anywhere in my post.
You asked if you were being pushy, I said yes that is all. And when I say "it" I'm referring to the posting
order if you repost and then get yours done then everyone who hasn't gotten a freebie will want to
repost and it will make a mess of a thread that Cashoo will have to dig through. Lighten up man the
people in the art section of the forums is good people.
P.S. If you come into the forums purposefully looking for a reason ("I knew that there was a reason") to get
upset and leave... you will probably find one.
Quote:That's crazy talk my friend. No one here speaks for anyone but themselves.
Quote:Just read this post and i don't think it really ruins if for the rest of usdon't need to be so harsh... -_-
Maybe I could've typed "posting sequence" or something else instead of "it"
but the post reads ok to me and I don't think it's harsh, just honest.
don't ruin"it"= don't re-post.
If people start multi-posting it's going to make it a chore for Cashoo to find
anything is what I'm saying and she has said pretty much the same thing...
only she said the magic word (please that is... not boobies).
She is more tactful than me I guess -
Quote:Thank you Memphis BillVery nicely done (for both pieces.) You should get inspired to sketch more often!
By the way I always loved that piece you commissioned from Alex with MB on fire... hopefully my digital
skills will catch up to my trusty pen one day and I can output pieces of that caliber all in software.
-
Cool man thanks for the +1 Rep
Quote:Those are some great pieces CR. You should not be hiding a talent like that! Although I now have one more person to be jealous of as I have no artistic talent.
I haven't drawn since I was 11 or 12, which ironically my son is that age and is drawing up a storm. He's getting good too. I hope he keeps it up and he could be half as good as you some day!
Tell your son to keep at it and I'm sure he'll be even better than me someday
and always keep encouraging him in his art... that's something I never had as a kid.
An absent father and strictly religious mother, who used to tear up my drawings if she didn't
like the subject material, was not conducive to drawing dragons and elves as a kid.
Thanks Ether ok I do have a few more pieces that I will post up after I snap some pics... for now though,
Update!
Added some more reds, extended the cheeckbone, and started in on the hair. The flash really makes
the blue look light but it's pretty dark and blends well with the black here when I look at it... oh well
I can always darken it some more later.

Hey Envee, Thanks for the Zombie FIIIIVVVEEEE YEAH! WOWWW!
And the Nightwish I just heard too
Awesome. -

Quote:Oh WOW!! I think you should leave it the way it is! Like Sin City with their black and white and a touch of red here and there!
As for the celeb look....she looks like an actress that I think sux as an actress with a very ANNOYING voice! Now if I could just remember her name......JENNIFER TILLY!!!
Not who I was thinking of but good guess.
I only ever remembered Jennifer Tilly as the short-haired blond chick from Liar! Liar!
with Jim Carrey (the pen is blue! lol hilarious movie) but a quick look at
google images and yeah it does look a bit like her with the long black hair...
forgot how impressive of a rack she has.
Anyone have another guess? -
Quote:Well bring out the portrait and dig out your stuff from storage. It would be kool to see your style from your past along side your style of the present!!
Ok well here is a shot of the present... digging the "past" out of storage will take a while lol.
This is a WIP sketch I started last week of one of my heroes, Aruanna Twilight Moon,
a Dark/Archery Defender.
It still needs a lot of work yet but I'm pretty happy with it so far...
She looks a bit like a particular celebrity in this pic but I don't know if anyone else "sees it" or
if that's just me... anyone have a guess?
-
Man that's awesome.
I did some metal etching (using stuff to scratch a design into the surface of metals) for art class way
back in high school and also the reverse, Silverpoint or Brasspoint (using metal to scratch a design into
other stuff) too and I recall it was very time consuming but totally worth it.
Very cool results you have there... are you planning to give em out as prizes or sell them? Or do you have
8 cars and happen to need a keyring for each?
