Quote:Youz wus causin' trouble so'z we had ta put da bootz to ya'... it ain't nuttin' personal, it'z jus business ya know?I thought I'd post up a thread simmilar to the hot pencil, only this is for digital. (since I was booted out of the hot pencil
J/k)
Quote:OH MY GOD I LOVE YOU.
Seriously I just squee'd out loud, that Dr. Vahzilok and Tank Smasher aaaaahhhh <3 SO hot. I really love those flat, sharp black strokes you use...I don't know how to describe them. They add a lot of motion. ahh!
Also love the color combinations on the tank smasher.) but the flat sharp strokes you are describing are a program called Alchemy
Guessing you were not there when Eddy was doing his live stream and demo'd it for us then (there were a few anonymous listeners that just lurked
but didn't join in the chat we had going on)? Well if you missed out you can go here and click the on demand to watch the replay
(and swoon over eddy's aussie accent like Wassy did) of his digital coloring tut/Alchemy preview.
Quote:Okay, done being a fangirl! I have nothing to add right now. But I'm glad someone added a digital alternative to the hot pencil thread.Thank you for that.
-
Quote:I would never do such a thing *whistles innocently* ummmm that must've been like my evil twin and stuffz...heh, well you did spring me on it
, But I was just trying to make sure FD knew the score
Quote:I do intend on sketching something for this soon, it just takes alot longer to do something manually (I'm out of paper aswell), and then there is the hassle of getting it onto the computer, that has kept me out of here.
errr I mean ummm np Eddy... whenever you get to it buddy.
In the mean time have you started that "digital" Hot Pencil/Alchemy thread I suggested yet?
Do eeeeet! (Jeez I'm really pushy this morning ain't I?)
And on that note I filed for my copy of Alchemy but I have yet to receive a link for the DL.
You didn't happen to save your link did you? Can it be used more than once or does the link go dead after a bit?
-
Quote:I'm sure I haven't the foggiest idea who you are talking about Eddy.Love the facial work, really beautiful. some one might have something to say about this being digital however... I might go make a digital sketch thread.
And yeah BW that is a nice piece (your stuff is always great to look at) especially for it only being 20- 30 minutes...
honestly though I'm really interested in seeing what you could come up with in 5-ish minutes using just
a pencil (Eddy and LJ too, heck even the Foo)... in any category really, I just updated the list,
pick one and give it a whirl.
Oh and remember to pick a new category for the next person/persons to keep it going.
-
Glad you are lovin it Psygon.
But oh yeah it's going to be even more awesome soon.
Not done yet but here is a little sneak peak of what I talked over with Eddy that I wanted to have done.

Hey when you get that new #2 pencil LJ I know what you could do to break it in...
*whistles innocently whilst looking at the OP*
Great job combining those two pieces and I'm sure Starwind and SW junior will love them. -
Thankyou all Psygon I think really deserved something nice and I believe (correct me if I'm wrong Psygon)
this may even be her first piece of hero artz. With that in mind it's going to get even better.
Even though I may be done drawing it I'm not completely done with it yet...
I have another bit of a surprise... a surprise of the Swany kind...
-
My usual wall o' text (does anyone ever read these things
)...
my vote's at the end if ya want to skip down but it'll cost ya. Mwhahah!
Shia: That is very cool that you actually made a clickable animation that incorporates
many/multiple images, some funny gags and even a multiple choice ending. Bravo that is a whole 'nother
level of creativity.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Aprosaath: This is a fine piece and you have also shown some strong improvement as well. What really worked well
here was your ability to convey distinct pieces of the costumes. I can readily make out each piece of armor,
the sharp pattern used and even the fact that it's actual armor and not the "armor pattern" on tights.
Good dynamics to Belle's pose and stance, you can almost feel the punch coming.
If I had to pick out what was taking away from the piece from me it would be, the wall and cars and sidewalk
all have the same pattern to them. It goes beyond uniformity to the point of too much "sameness"
throughout the piece and it distracts. Also the "weight of the combatants is missing"... Belle
is wearing full suit of metal armor and carrying Zerb's weight as well but you don't see
it reflected in the objects she is standing on. I do see the bend in the car hood but her foot does not appear
to be the source it seems to be hovering over it. Also, it's a small thing but, the shine effect on Zerbraxos
hooves make it look like the cleft in on the backside... like his hoofs are on backwards. To improve it I
would say correct the small details and choose a different texture effect for the metal of the cars and
a different one for the walls and leave the current one on the sidewalk and make it look more like
Belle's feet are applying crushing weight to the vehicles by having them buckle up around her feet.
A few minor things to touch up and this is a real nice looking piece.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Foo: Such a minimalist piece (3/4 of the page is flat black) and yet it so perfectly conveys a sense of defeat that
I'm shocked and pleasantly surprise. More than that it's an accomplishment in and of itself to do so much with so little
there isn't much for the viewer to see but it immediately tells the story and everyone who sees it feel the loss.
You know Foo way back in August you made a flippant remark (something about if enough people were to
drop out or dq themselves you would win by default and crow about it for years to come) and I replied to
you point blank that you shouldn't think that way at all and that there was no real reason you couldn't
win this contest outright legitimately as you had been showing steady improvement and your submission
for that month was a big step forward, you just needed to keep at it... this is what I was talking about.
All three put forth great efforts in different ways but in the end the Foo is the one that really captured the
concept of defeat (I feel the other half of me has now been hollowed out) and very poignantly so...
far more than a hero who lost a fight... he really looks like he lost the war.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I vote Foo.
Well deserved bro.
P.S. Wonder what the theme will be for the final month? We had defeat so what about Ultimate Victory...
or what about an Ultimate Showdown type battle royal, CoH style!
-
Ok it's been a while since I posted up something here and unfortunately this has been sitting on the back
burner for the last several weeks (been distracted with the posting stuff in "The Hot Pencil" thread
and working on the CannonBrawl Run's grand prize to be awarded to Starwind)
but now I finally made the time to complete it.
As a way to say thank you to Psygon for all the wonderful "City of Cutes" she has done for so many
people (including me) for free (she was long overdue for some nice gift artz in return)
I present her namesake hero Psygon. Enjoy, you've definitely earned it.
-
Eddy: Not that I don't enjoy the stuff you are posting (Dr. Vahz looks great for such
a quick sketch) but mebe sneak a peek at the original post... **cough rule#1 *cough cough**
You should totally start an Alchemy thread though and post these up in it and I'd be happy to take a crack
at it as soon as I get a copy DL'd.
kthxbye
-
Cool, some nice metal work there Alex and a good likeness too.
-
Crestent has fallen! errr I mean joined the thread... now I just need
to get Swanzy, LJ and Cashoo in here mwhahahah.
Goes to poke Eddy...
-
Hehe looks like an illusionist decoy was summoned on the tracks... must ...stay ...ahead of ...train ...for ...60 seconds poof!
The Foo would probably be even funnier, should've drawn the little mask he wears.
Can't wait to see what else you come up with...
Oh and welcome to the thread Crestant... finally
P.S. VexXxa, This from the woman that steals fonts for a living???
well maybe not for a living... can't be that much money in font thieving...
(plus it doesn't sound badazz enough if you do get caught... hey what you in for?
stealin' fonts... *cricket sounds*) but you know what I mean!
-
Was there no 2nd place... and you got to have dinner with Jay Love?!?! Tell him we need Vampire capes with collars heroside... and a swap button for the CostumeCreator stat!
-
That was fun and informative thanks Eddy
As for subjects I'd like to see covered... the glow effect for like Eye Auras or Vangard Weapons would be nice.
-
For the category of Skulls I present...
------- Skulls not gonna take it...
NO!!! They ain't gonna take it...
Skulls not gonna take it ANYMORRRRE! -------------
New category: What would they say???
Pick any mob and put thought bubbles over their head of what they
would say if they could speak... can be anything so be creative.
-
Dunno, it's something I read about in the City Scoop... VexXxa prolly just made it up though.
-
-
Normally I am not up at that time (self employed building custom pc's so I can and do sleep in
).
I'm more of a night-owl than a morning person...
...however I am very new to digital art (traditionalist up til now) and highly interested in this subject
in general and in your coloring process in particular so yeah count me in.
Can have a crack at Chloe
or Xllusya if you like.
-
Wicked cool Alex.
Love the perspective as well.
-
Quote:Thanks Power Stream.Wow that's some major scaling adjustments CR! I like it though. I totally see a little boy inside that suit!
Yeah it's the smallest and the narrowest shoulders the costume creator allows.
Quote:Only thing I don't like about the change is the emblem... Not the emblem choice but rather that the gray part cannot be transparent and let the armor show through. It would look much better that way but that's a costume piece issue not a design issue...
I chose the closest shade of gray I could get to the suit color but it stands out cuz it's a flat single shade.
I do really like the symbol though I can totally see the green spark in the center representing his skull
generating green plasma while the ring signifies containment and the lines breaking out of the
circle symbolizing when he exhausts plasma out of his containment through combat.
From a symbolic standpoint it's better a match than I thought I would find.
Ya ok I probably over-thought the symbolism a bit.
I also like that in any front facing shot, like the first one especially, the skull looks to be suspended in mid-air over
the suit with only the left and right helmet sensors holding it in place... since the need of a head is really only
cosmetic, as his eyes were in the previous suit (just painted on), it's more for show than necessity.
Thanks Mc Boo I had a a lot of fun working on this. -
Not at all... it's all about the priorities. Can you imagine if people let real
life like actually intrude on their game time and stuff??? Chaos I tell ya'. -
