  1. Lol don't give them any hints.

Will do and I'll send along the tracker in an email or PM.

    H2 ho ho ho!

Hate to be all doom and gloomy but though it may seem like a far off thing now make no mistake it will be a local problem one day.

We already buy water at the store now and when I was growing up if someone told me I'd have to pay extra and drive to get water I would've laughed at them but it's happening already, it's just in poorer parts of the world with population explosions it's much further along and once a corporation steps in and buys all the water up (and the land that has water under it) they start selling it and when you can't pay they shut it off (and there's is no other place to get any once they have a monopoly) ...people will do anything to get it back including selling their homes or even themselves.

Gah I sound like a tree-hugging activist and 2012 Doomsayer all rolled into one here and that is definitely not my style, watch the flick or at least the trailer (Flow) and draw your own conclusions it's not very long and needs to be seen...

Nice work, Bayani-san. Kudos to the artist, and may you find a colorist to do it serious justice (I would suggest Nei Ruffino but she doesn't come cheap, Pixeltease would be another possible colorist for ya.)
"The difference... Showmanship" from Batman, Riddler talking to Two-Face.

Bayani that is really amazing work there... I am especially drawn to the expression on your/his face and the fire sword... even with his shades on it feels like you can see his eyes glaring. Fantastic!
  4. Nice work Foo, I'm really liking these latest pieces from you... just been far too busy to really look them over in detail and comment.

One small thing I noticed though it looks like Hex's right hand is in two places at the same time? Pose changed perhaps but forgot to erase the other layer?

Otherwise great... oh and I'm all for the spanking if there's pics involved.
  5. Heh good luck on posting them all Pyro... I lost count myself hahaha.

Even though I'm up to my elbows in my next two builds I feel like celebrating the completion of Pyro's rig by sketching something (after I close up shop for the day or maybe tomorrow).

Tell ya guys what... since I don't have a whole lot of time and The Hot Pencil (which is all about the quickness ) needs some attention the first person that can correctly guess how many USB ports Pyro's new rig has total (that's USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports combined) I will do a quick sketch of their avatar or a bust of their main (if the avatar is animated or not CoH related) and put it up in THP thread.

Only one guess per person... no cheating, good luck all and Happy Holidays.

I make no guarantee of how it will turn out (but the last two came out pretty decent I think) just that it will be fast and in pencil. So take your best guess...

P.S. Pyro sit this one out please so others can get some stuffz too.
  6. Pyro your system is ready to be shipped out tomorrow morning and with any luck (never know about shipping around the holidays) you and the others should all have your systems in time for a very Merry Christmas.

P.S. A little birdie (this time not a Swan lol) told me another "friend" has decided to add to your already awesome system... can't say any more but yeah... wow.
  7. Ok Ok That surprise lasted all of about 10 seconds until I figured it out.

What happened is when I last logged out I was still in mid air and so upon logging in I fell a short distance and found myself facing a rock wall... with no depth to the frame the FPS shot up into the low to mid 300's... so that explains it, still though, in the words of the immortal Ron Simmons... DAMN!

Ok so for a real test, since this is an ATI card and the fix for the water/AA/DoF bug hasn't gone through yet (as I understand it the bug is fixed they just haven't implimented it in a patch yet), I tested twice with the opposite settings maxed which is the best you can do until they patch it.
For Depth of Field (the further away something is the fuzzier it gets and fog effects), Water Quality maxed (self explanatory) and all other settings maxed (200% world and character detail 50,000 particle count etc) I faced out across a huge lake with an unobstructed view so it had to draw as much into the fame as possible and I got...
Note: this is only the upper corner of my screen in the image so you can clearly see the FPS trust me it's a wide open area zoomed waaaay out.

I then turned up Anti-Aliasing to max (4x) which turns off DoF and makes the water quality auto set to low (all other settings still maxed like 16x anisotropic filtering and 200% yadda yadda) and picked a fight with a huge multiple mob of reindeer and witches in Croatoa and zoomed the camera in tight so there would be tons of lightning and particle effects and bodies filling the screen to draw and I got...

This is how I run my own comps that have ATI cards (AA with everything clear and sharp out into the distance over having fog and fuzziness).

Ok so those are the two worse case scenarios... so how does it run just in normal use with Anti-Aliasing and everything on max?
Jumped on a team of 4 for a few minutes and fought Snaptooth in his little cave and got...

So it would seem, under normal usage (read maxed settings running missions on indoor maps), to get between 160 and 185 FPS.
  8. Sorry for the big delay between posts I am working like crazy to get at least two of the other systems done in time so people can have them to give as Christmas presents...

Don't be so hasty about chucking your system I'll double check the settings...

(That small dark spot at the bottom center of the image is the top of my character's head.)

Of course, I'm slightly constrained by that 4350 that shipped with my system. And the fish and game commission has set the legal kill limit on 5850s to just two per month.
Lol never tried it on that low a setting hmmm...
and yeah the 5850's are a bit scarce and that is partly why Pyro had to wait this long for his system... I feel it will be worth it though in the long run as this agonizing wait will be forgotten weeks and months down the road but this system will Kick Assssstronaut (lol @Kenny Blankenship) for years to come.

    Almost but not quite haha

Ok I figured I better double check the setting cuz that is a 2nd account I activated for my niece to play on her laptop and I noticed some of her settings were on med/high instead of maxed and the resolution was lower for her smaller screen... so I upped the resolution to match what Pyro's monitor at home will display (1600x1200, highest 32bit color quality, 60hertz, yadda yadda) and manually cranked all the visual settings to max and....

  9. Ahh yes "the look" I have seen it and did a sketch many years ago... it's in my "New Artz" thread (button in my sig). lol

    That's great quick sketch Wolffe

Sidenote: Are these digital? or ink perhaps? These are fine but for the future...
    *looks at the OP*

    H2 ho ho ho!

Indeed it is... it is a very real look at what some of the poorer countries in the world have to go through to get access to water and what several big corporations that most people (who've never been outside the US) have never even heard of are doing... it does not paint a pretty picture for the future, but it's something more people need to know about of so I'm glad you are raising awareness.

The documentary was being given away totally free to download off the internet the last time I checked, it's worth watching...
  11. I'm speechless a.t.m.
I'll let others answer... anyone else want to post what they are getting
for average frames per second? The in-game commands to check are in the post above.
  12. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH....

    *wipes tear away* sniff

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA....

  13. I am curious why they put that on an enthusiast motherboard then. Also I did a double take when I noticed it says 200 as they are indeed gigabit ports and all my equipment as far as I know is also gigabit compliant and the house is only a few years old and I had all cat6 wiring installed throughout. It's probably something I'm not setting correctly, I may have to dig into it more after the holiday rush passes however my game never really lags (maybe once or twice during a holiday event a few years back) and so if it aint broke...
yeah haven't had much cause to learn more about it. I am curious now. Lemme give the game a whirl on Pyro's rig and I'll post back.

FYI genrally speaking 30fps is the minimum you ever want to see to avoid lag
...60fps or better is the goal for truly "smooth as buttah" gaming.

The command for those that want to check their own frames per second rate is

    /showfps 1

(notice the space between the s and the 1)

/showfps 0 ...or just log out to turn the counter back off... I kinda like having mine on at all times though.

P.S. It's funny I thought teh purdy pictures would be getting all the attention rather than a network spec lol.
Oh well I think I have something to change that coming soon....

Oh and from a hardware standpoint the system is now complete and most burn-in and stability testing is done as well (one or two still wrapping up) so it's down to boxing the accessories up for shipping, burning the receipt CD, swapping out the silver card reader for black and changing the drivers for it, affixing the Windows 7 Certificate of Authenticity sticker to the rear of the case and a final rundown of my check list and build notes to tie up any loose ends and then it's time to look into shipping options between UPS, USPS and FEDEX. I know which I want but it never hurts to make a few phone calls and double check stuff.
  14. ChristopherRobin

    H2 ho ho ho!

Sounds like a very worthy cause. Hey Foo you ever see a documentary called Flow?
  15. "I am soooo tired" lol. Yeah that song was cool too.
Funnily enough I was just remarking a little while back to Larissa about HC100's song "Love +1" as a sort of try to stump each other with obscure lyrics... yeah stumped her with that one.

Yeah they may not have been the nerdiest band ever, which is why I had the word "synth" in there... of all the synth bands that I could think of, well they take the nerd cake.
  16. Ok see that is exactly what I was thinking but didn't know how to word it correctly. I am more of a hardware geek/artist and my networking-fu is but beginner level. I can set them up and maintain them but knowing how to do an advanced setup or what effect certain protocols will have is beyond me.

Most of what I have read sounds like it may work well as a lag prevention (or reduction) system and not so much to get "double speed" as you are still capped by the CoX server.

Or it may let you be DL a bunch of stuff from the internet while playing with no slowdown... don't really have the setup to test it either way.

The computer system itself has no slowdowns or bottlenecks that I can detect (if anything the graphics have caught up and it's starting to go full circle around to the processor being the slow link but Pyro is only playing @ 1600x1200 rez currently and so he should be good for years to come) and is very well balanced so my only real goal on the network front is to never have his connection drop or cause lag... then the game would just fly along at all times.

    /nitpick mode on:
Ok as an 80's-90's lyrics aficionado I have to point out if you are referring to the song "Whip it" by Devo in your folder title... at no time do they ever say Whip it reaaal good (they do say "Whip it good" many times though).

That would be Salt n' Peppa's "Push it" that says "Ahhh SSSSS, Push it, Push It REAAAAL Good."

If you already knew that and were by chance combining the two in your title then I must warn you that attempting to cross the whitest nerdiest synth band of all time with the chocolaty soulful sistah's of pop may very well tear a rift in the fabric of time and space...

it's like crossing the streams in Ghostbusters... it would be bad.
    /end nitpick:
  18. Here we go. This is closer to what it looks like in direct daylight... in most normal situations It's between shot #1 and #3.

  19. Ok the last pic looked nice but didn't really capture the look of the
fine mesh facade so I tried a bunch of setting on my camera...
the pictures don't do it justice you really gotta see one
in person but this shot comes close.

You can almost see swirls and patterns in it when the
light hits it just right, it's totally sexay!

Yeah that silver drive has gotta go... it really sticks out like
    a sore thumb in photos.

Pro Wrestling aaah that's what it was. Wow blast from the past... was that the one with "The Claw" maneuver? I remember playing with a buddy of mine when I was little and could barely figure it out but I learned this move when you grab the other guys head claw style and sqeeze and he would have to button mash like crazy to get out... then I'd hit it again and again... The other wrestling games for Nintendo I wasn't too good at though.

Seeing all this computer goodness is really making me jealous and eyeing up my bank account. I too would love to see a ballpark figure so I can judge what it would take me to get this done for myself.
Don't feel bad my mom threw out all my first edition Dungeons and Dragons hard cover books... Players hand book Monster Manual etc etc cuz they were "evil"... any idea what those things are worth now that Gygax is dead??? Do you?!!

Speaking of computer goodness... time to fire up the game and see some numbers.
  21. This thread needs more pics to showcase teh awesumms.
It will spoil one surprise but it's a minor one. So without further ado...

    Oooooh Ahhhhh Shiny!

That is a 56 in one card reader with bonus USB on the front. I got a great price
on a bulk purchase so I grabbed 5 of them, 3 in black and 2 in silver so I tried
out the silver but I'm thinking now the black might go better... opinions?

P.S. The blue light isn't nearly that bright even in total darkness but I shot this
with my camera in a nightscene mode that leaves the shutter open to absorb more
light. The effect is pretty subtle during the day or with lights on and about half that
    brightness in the dark.

Anyway, when you manually put the breaks in, the forum wraps the lines around and then wherever you put a break, it adds another.

So it ends up looking like this:
I will give it until Monday evening to arrive and if it's not here I will drive out and pick it
    up. Can't use
    a 32bit one
for Pyro's rig as he has waaay more than the 3.5GB cumulative of total
memory in his computer addressable by a 32bit OS.
Anything more than 4GB would be going to waste so make note of that
    anyone building/buying
    /ordering a PC built
if you have more than 3.5GB total (including the memory that comes on your
Videocard) in your system make sure you get
a 64bit operating system or you are needlessly bottlenecking yourself.

Probably easiest for you to just type and add breaks at the end of a paragraph and save yourself some grief!

    Holy crap, 2560px...
Yeah... puts a smile on my face whenever I sit in front of it.
Ok so no page breaks or if I do I'll try to use them at about 1/3 my screens size so it won't mess up on smaller monitors.
So does the above all look ok?

Also is this going to be art themed heroes and villains and is anyone planning to rp? Also we moving 50's or starting level ones? I'm for starting new heroes at least initially so everyone can be on the same footing (not everyone has a 50 they can/want to move). I have all three chat clients Skype, Vent and TS and agree the better quality is on Skype as long as people have a decent machine and reasonably fast internet.

  24. Quick update: Anyone who looked at the last pic could see the Windows 7 manual... yes it finally arrived late Tuesday after I closed up shop for the day but I got the OS installed first thing this morning then proceeded to get all the drivers hotfixes and patches followed by a few "hey there is no driver support for x that's made for Win7 yet it's too new" and sadly a few of my goto apps don't work with 64bit Win7 yet either. So I hunted for alternatives and emailed a few companies to see if what could be done to keep busy while the system is being put through it's paces and I get things ready for shipping. I'll load up the game in a bit and see how that performs in a bit and give another update then. It's almost there...

Note: a few of my burn-in utilities are low level and self contained meaning they run outside of and have no
need for windows and those are long done I'll see if I can get some more teaser pics up in a bit.
My early impressions of the build though are...

MINE! CANT HAAVE IT! CANNOT TAKE MY PRECISOUSSSS... err I mean, damn maybe it's time I upgrade my other machines.
    Plus I think I caught my DragonPC giving Pyro's box the evil eye from across the room... {>. >}___{< .<}

P.S. Hey Foo what game is that "Engrish" from in your sig... looks like an 8 bit nintendo wrestling game... muscle? tag team wrestling? acme?
  25. Speaking of new tech (and one of the things I said "more on that later" about) when I was speaking with Arcanaville about fastloading of the game zones I mentioned there were two new things that may impact the possibility of "insta-loads", this is the 2nd.
    It's called LAN "teaming."

Typical Broadband connection on my (albeit optimized) gaming pc.

Same internet connection on Pyro's PC using both LanPorts...

I wasn't able to use it (no network access) because my router doesn't support the
protocol needed (drat!) but there it is.

Teaming or Link Aggregation is nothing new servers and data centers use it all the time rather than upgrade to a whole new setup they just aggregate and add on to their existing one to keep up until it's no longer viable, but it's not something you see in the home market or for gaming much. Nvidia released a few chipsets a while back that supported the feature but I never got to try one. Supposedly the you join two connections into one superfast double speed connection and if there is lag or any delay due to packet loss on one connection the other picks up the slack and compensates. Looks awesome on paper but not sure what effect it will have as I cannot test it with my current setup. Anyone else have it or have tried it before?
