Quote:What do you mean Fitness is gonna be inherent for 1-19? I'll have that spell no matter what from 1-19? Well... i'm about to hit 20. :-/Quick thoughts:
Fitness is about to become inherent with I-19 so keep that in mind for your future plans.
Followup, Slash, Focus and Spin are Claws' bread and butter, but I'll be honest... followup isn't nearly as necessary on a brute as it is on a scrapper in the early levels when considering its damage buff. The tohit buff, on the other hand, I'd still take FU for that alone.
Regardless, in the end game, any attack chain with followup will be better than a chain without it.
Consume just got buffed so I plan to take it on my FA/FM tank.
Single target chain comparison:
FU, Slash, Focus, Swipe, repeat needs more recharge in FU to work without a pause and does less DPS than FU, Slash, Focus, Strike, repeat.
I advise dumping either strike or swipe as you feel correct at some point in the 20s. Leveling up to there, however, I'm a firm believer in taking swipe, strike, slash, spin, focus and followup and using the hell out of whatever is up.
So then i'll get consume when it's available. Right now I love the damage claws does. I used my 2nd build just to see how Swipe works and it's awesome. I don't know why you don't want that in your build. It doesn't do THAT much less than Strike but it pops twice as fast! But I didn't have enhancements to fill everything so I just went back to my original build.
Is Burn really that good? That's all I keep reading about! -
-
Do you guys pickup Follow Up? Is it really worth it?
-
Quote:That's exactly what I meant by it. I'm no main tank but I'd like to be able to hold the brunt of damage incoming between the two of us.He mentioned his brother plays a Fire/Kin corruptor. Perhaps he just meant tanking for his brother? If so then /Fire is plenty tough since he'll be backed up by the brother's Speed Boost and powerful heal. Basically as long as the brute holds aggro they'll be an unstoppable buzz saw of destruction.

I decided to go Claws/Fire. Spin really tipped the scales actually. A good AoE really early on?
Strike does a lot of damage surprisingly too! I get to 50% fury insanely quick! -
I figured fire beats SS in straight single target damage. But is it total domination in comparison or does SS do very well against it?
Claws and dual blades really beat fire and super strength in single target AND AoE damage output?! -
Quote:What about straight single target damage SS vs Fire? Waiting for footstomp doesn't seem all that bad.Well...in sheer numbers, Fire Sword Circle does more damage than Footstomp and is available much sooner (mid 20's). Footstomp does KB.
They pair up pretty much the same for END cost, recharge, animation time, and so forth.
So...youll have to decide for yourself whether an attack you get sooner that does more damage is better than an attack you get later that does more mitigation. -
Quote:My brother is a fire/kin so I just wanna keep aggro away from him while we play! :-)Not really, the biggest weakness it has is its lack of KB protection which is pretty easy to fix. But you have some nice (not great) res numbers and one of the better (faster) self heals out there. But its not sure not the best defence set.
Also, what are you doing tanking on a brute? :P -
I wanted fire originally but I was't sure how the AoEs stack up to Foot Stomp (everyone says it's that awesome). I like the idea of going fire/fire since my favorite brute I ever played was stone/stone.
Fire really does well against SS in terms of ST and AoE damage output? -
How about if I added claws/Fire to the mix?
I'm glad I read SS/Fire though. That's what I was banking on.
I'm really like SS! haha!
Is /Fire really that bad for tanking though? -
Super Strength is the only one that doesn't have more than 1 AoE but the single target damage is impressive.
My secondary I finally decided is gonna be Fire. So that way I am always doing some type of AoE damage to bring down potential attacks to my brother who is a Fire/Kin Corruptor.
So i'm asking you guys what you think would pair up best with /Fire. I REALLY liked Super Strength up to level 12 because I was killing single targets sooo fast. I was also excited because between Fiery Embrace, Rage, and Fulcrum Shift... I feel like I could do the best damage possible while those are all active.
But War Mace has some pretty hard attacks (never used it before though) and 3 AoEs.
I added battle axe in there because I have a level 12 Brute and I liked the single target damage output a lot. Just wondering what everyone else though about it.
Fiery Melee because everyone is saying that a ranged Fire attack is just incredible at dealing damage due to it's DoTs. I figured Fiery Melee had the same effect since every attack pretty much is a DoT PLUS the 2 AoEs you get at later levels.
Sorry for a long post and a lot of questions... just trying to gather up the most information possible before really getting deep into leveling. -
So if fire does the most ST damage and has some solid AoEs... At what point does another primary become more effective?
I don't know what to go by with DPS because it seems the information they give you while making a character is pretty far off. -

Quote:I actually like the idea of -ToHit attacks. And I had no idea Dark Melee does so much damage. It also has 2 AoEs. I'm gonna go with DM/SR. I really like the way you're making things sound. haha
The single-target damage output of Dark Melee is actually quite intense. I'm not entirely sure, but if I remember correctly, it has the highest damage-per-second attack chain for single-target.
Super Strength and Willpower are both very solid "Jack of all trades" sets. I personally dislike them cause they're EVERYWHERE. EVERYONE has an SS/WP or SS/Invul Brute or Tanker; that and I dislike the dependency on Rage. But that usually means it's a good combo. -
Quote:The damage output of Dark really isn't all that special though, right?
Because Dark Melee gives you another heal that you can use on top of Aid Self, or in conjunction with Aid Self.
And regarding the leveling, here's the thing...
SR, on its own, is rather fiddly...until it's softcapped. The difference in performce of a soft-capped and a non-soft-capped SR character is incredibly vast. So your character can go from "squishy" before level 47, to "invincible" after level 47 and a few hundred millions of inf.
Now...if you pair SR with Dark Melee, however, it should help ease the leveling, because of the -ToHit of Dark Melee (-ToHit is essentially +Def).
So it really depends on your playstyle.
I've seen Dark Melee/SR Brutes solo entire TFs. It's pretty darn badass. But as I said...it takes some patience.
What about Super Strength and Willpower? Or super strength/battle axe/war mace and Super Reflexes? -
Quote:Why Dark Melee?Well it depends on what you'll be fighting the most, and how early you want your Brute to 'bloom' to its full potential.
If you wouldn't mind late-blooming sets, Super Reflexes on a Brute is pretty much invincible, ESPECIALLY in one-on-one fights, when soft-capped. So you're looking at a set that blooms at level 47 or so. There is just no way you'll die. If you take Aid Self on top to, I think you could just walk up to AVs and tickle them. Pair that with Dark Melee and you'll just be a monster; all that -ToHit and the heal can stack up really nicely. I have a DB/SR Brute, and she just really never dies.
For general, early-blooming sets, Willpower would be a good choice, along with Invulnerability and Shield Defense.
You're making it sound pretty bad while leveling. Is that the case? -
Looking for the most powerful setup for a brute! Teaming up with a Fire/Kin Corruptor pretty much every step of the way.
I have a stone/stone so I want to steer clear of that. But if stone/stone is the most powerful, what's next in line?
Looking for taking out single targets as fast as possible. Holding aggro is something i'm not too concerned with right now. -
Quote:But after I level it up the first time, it then follows the leveling of my main build? You can have two separate builds on a character. Visit a trainer to find out more. When you switch to your second build for the first time, you will need to level it up to your current level, selecting powers and placing slots as you normally would. Your primary and secondary don't change, just the powers you choose from them.

Quote:It's so depressing! My GTX295 can't play this game on full blast! So annoyed!right now Multi-GPU does nothing for City of Heroes from either ATi or Nvidia.
You can force AFR on Nvidia cards by modifying driver values in tools like nHancer, but doing so caries the normal risk of "muck about with the driver or the hardware and don't be surprised if things go completely wrong" -
I forgot what it is exactly, but I talked to someone about switching to a second set of powers? What does this mean? They didn't really have a tutorial on it and I forgot what it was called exactly so my searches were a little off. haha!

My GTX 295 won't use both GPUs. Is this game incapable of doing so?
-
Quote:You think the fire/kin setup will do similar damage to battle axe/stone brute?Kinetics + brute = win
Seriously though. Kinetics is a great pairing with melee classes; it has a nice heal, Speed Boost is awesome and when you get Fulcrum Shift there's no stopping you.
It's especially good with something like ba/stone, which both are very slow and endurance heavy sets. The +recharge, +speed and +recovery from speed boost helps negate all those drawbacks. -
Quote:So you think fire/kinetics is a good match when mostly pairing with a battle axe/stone brute?Fire/Dark corruptors are awesome, single target and AoE. A Mind/Fire dominator should have some good single target ranged damage potential (and locking the spawn down with the sleep and then picking them off one at a time is very effective).
If I wanted to play a ranger/damager, I would choose either a corruptor or a defender.
Blasters will start with more damage and on a team they can often deal much more damage, since they are not spending time activating powers that buff/debuff. However, I have a great deal of trouble playing a blaster or dominator without taking and using the melee powers, as the melee attacks are often very potent (and they also often look/feel impressive on top of actually being good numbers-wise).
That being said, blasters can be played as pure rangers very effectively, so they are still a good choice. Controllers can be played very rangery, but not so much as a damage thing.
Fire, Assault Rifle, and Archery are very effective AoE damage dealers. Rifle's single target lacks some punch at later levels. Fire's single target is very strong, but you have to be within 40 feet for Blaze (and Blaze is one of the most amazing powers in the game, so it is worth it). Energy Blast is not the most damaging, but it gets all its single target attacks early and the knockback can be quite satisfying as well as helpful to staying alive.
Ice Blast is also an excellent choice with a good secondary effect as well as a great hold in Freeze Ray.
