I really don't see why aside from a good faith reason. After all, they said it would go from August 17th thru August 23rd... and today IS August 17th, and you can transfer toons again. So they're in their timeframe.
  2. Follows are the instructions that I used to get in after 3 days of having major issues (thanks muchly Zombie Man):

If you're on the US Server:

    1. Make sure your Test server is up to date on all patches, included the GR pre-download by logging a character into the Test server and then exiting the long way: countdown the log out on the character, and click the buttons to exit the client.

    2. Assuming your Test directory is /programs/CohTest/, then copy all of that to /programs/CohBeta/.

    3. Go in to /programs/CohBeta/ and delete all files that start with city*, coh*, or cov* (cityofheroes.exe, covupdater.exe, coh.checksum, etc...)

    4. Go to your Desktop. Right click your Test Shortcut Icon and select copy.

    5. Right click on your Desktop and then paste a copy of your Test Shortcut Icon.

    6. Right click on your Test Shortcut Icon and click on Properties. Rename it to Beta under General Tab. Under the Shortcut Tab look for the Target subwindow and change -test to -beta. Click Apply and OK.

    7. Click on your new Beta Shortcut Icon to start it. If it doesn't automatically point to CohBeta (the directory you created, then point it there). Let it 'fix' your files (fixing your files is like adding a patch, it may take 30 min to 8 hours, which is much shorter than the 3-11 hours it would take otherwise). When you get into the game you'll see servers with the word 'beta' in their name as in the pic below. You're in.

Note that the working server is "GR Closed Beta". The numbered ones aren't letting us in... yet.

And if you've never been on Test (!), then this also works by copying /programs/City of Heroes to /programs/CohBeta and then copying your desktop shortcut and adding -beta to the Target.

    Notes
    :
    • When each wave comes in, there will be a lot of people hitting the updater at once, which slows it down. The Beta updater apparently does not have the resources of a Live updater server and the download can slow to a crawl. That's unfortunately normal.
    • If the updater reports it will take a ridiculous time like three thousand hours, don't believe it. It might take a full day (please leave it running over night), but it will not take months.
    • If the updater reports 0kb/sec download speed while 'fixing' a file, don't believe it. It's likely working on a very large file. And it's not updating its progress while working on that file. But, it is working. Just let it keep running.
    • Yes, the loading screens are all messed up. They're being worked on, please don't bug them until a patch comes along and says they're now all updated, but you notice some that aren't right.

If you're on the EU Server:

Go to your EU Test Server. The end.

    Skin Meh!

If you want that golden Going Rogue skin when you log on and have Tyrant, Desdemona, and Maelstrom greet you, the tag for the command line is:-uiskin 2
  3. Teams I knew about but didn't want to get too in-depth, as I'm told I tend to do. Help I always forget about.. lol.
  4. Issue 18/Going Rogue. They send it out at logouts so as not to cause the server to explode with everybody downloading it all at once.
  5. Question: are you on a trial? Trials are not allowed to use AE, and also not allowed to talk in anything other than Local chat.
  6. CharybdisClan

    Ding!!

    Still not a real Texan.

    (lol, gratz)
  7. Funny you should post this now. I just had one last evening.

Was running Citadel with some friends from a global channel. I get this quite interesting tell from somebody I met one time ages ago. They were wanting to have.... adult RP with me. Now, I don't RP (except sometimes on my Texan) and I told them as such. They kept on, and I sent what I thought was a tell....

"Look, I don't care if you RP, but I won't talk about doing that stuff with you. That's nasty, and welcome to ignore."

After I /gignored them I noticed that my reply was in green and not yellow.... and I then had to explain to my friends.
  8. If you want an invite to Guardian's Team, pop me off a tell in game. If I'm there I'll invite ya. Otherwise, all the channels mentioned I use. Guardian's TF is dead as the moderator quit the channel somehow and nobody can be invited back; well, I say dead, it's still used, but nobody can be invited to it.

    Who broke it?

I left cheese near them. The Ocho likes cheese so I hear...

    Random Question

Personally I found when I was running -1/x8 I got no purples. But when I kicked it up to +2/x6 I got two in one mob, three in one run, and seven in one week. Prolly skewed statistics but it kept me hitting them at higher levels. More cash too; I was netting according to HeroStats 4 million inf/hour.

    I hate it when:

I forget that I can use the bathroom and try to wear a diaper.
  12. Yeah, I'll prolly need reminding as well.
  13. Oh. Sorry. I had to change the date due to rl commitments to June 26th. As for time, gonna start the hunt at 8:45pm Central. First clue will be given at that time on Guardian, Level 50, Guardian's Team and Coonie's Chat. After that, the person you find will give the clue for the next location. Expect at least a half dozen locations, but no more than eight total so it's not a whole night spent looking for people.
  14. Right then, throw me in as a strong probably. My 50 Mercs/Traps MM.
  15. Kick it back a half an hour to 8:30 and I'm game.
  16. Okay. So once again, I have a lot of cash (blueside.) About 1.5 billion between my toons. So, with the help of of some peoples, I've decided to put together something better than my lame "100 million to the person who defeats AV" thing.

    I'm doing a scavenger hunt.

I'm working on getting people together for it, but on June 26th, 2010, I'm gonna be running a scavenger hunt. You'll have to find the person based on the clues I give, and get a piece of salvage. Once you get all of them, you'll find me. And when you do, the prize won't be a paltry 100 million influence. Let's talk about 300 million.

Oh yes, 300 million influence. So, get ready and all. Cuz I'm gonna tell the people I get to help me to go to some hard to figure places. And the winner must be the first to bring me all the salvage. Some of it will be the rare kind of salvage, and you get to keep it. Just pop open a trade window to let me know you've got it, and the first to bring it to me gets the cash. E-mailed, so it's readily available on whatever toon you want.

I just think the imaginary wealth should be spread, and since I don't want to purple out any more toons, I have little use for lots of influence. So my lack of desire is your gain.

June 26th, 2010. Mark your calendars.
  17. I like the stories Nezz. Very in depth. Kept me reading and re-reading for hours.

You can have more than 1 global channel; I think it's either up at 5 or 10, but I am not sure. Join all of the ones mentioned previously, hang out for a while and then pick the one that best suits your wants and needs. Or stay a member of all of them! Don't worry about the history of the channel, how long it's been around, who's the mod and who isn't. Pick a channel populated with people you like, and can talk to. The rest will fall into place easily.

    Good luck and happy hunting!
I usually run my own SG as two I've belonged to have been drama filled. I know they aren't all that way, but I kinda like to be on my own in an SG.

I've gotten in on the aforementioned Protector channels as well, and some of my friends from a Guardian global are over on Protector too (which is why I chose this as a second server,) but they're not always on Protector. And I need to expand my friend base a little too, since my Guardian slots are nearing full.

    Thanks again all!
  19. Drat. So sorry I missed that one. Thank you for pointing it out!
  20. Excellent, based on the MOTD that seems like the channel I want. Thank you!
  21. Howdy all. I'm making some toons on Protector and would like to know of any global channels to help me in finding a team. I'm already on Protector TF's, but any others would be helpful. Thanks! Oh, and just in case, my forum name is my global as well.
  22. This one has to be my favorite of all my toons:

Shocking Charybdis- Lvl 50 Elec/Mental/Flame Blaster

While most of the other members of The Charybdis Clan have some wonderful and exciting story for their transformation into superheroes, Karen Clark has nothing like that. Instead, the childhood friend of Incredible and Smashing one day decided to see what would happen if she stuck a fork in an electrical socket. Thus was born her electrical prowess. And, in what has been a wonder of science, she proved once and for all mind over matter; she believed in the Psychic Friends Network so much, she was able to convince her mind to establish a psychic center, thus creating her mental manipulation controls. Finally, her late forming Fire abilities came from repressed memories of playing with fire; repressed because she wet the bed due to playing with fire and nearly electrocuted herself and her cat, Fluffy.

    Not very bright, no.

Incredible Charybdis, Founder, Charybdis Clan, 50 Stone/DB Tanker:

Once Major Dan Griffin of the U.S.A.F., while on leave one week he ran into the Circle of Thorns. They abducted him and attempted their transformation ceremony on him until Statesman came to his rescue. Before he was completely free of the spell, one of the Mages cast a spell of revenge on him, causing him to be turned to stone. The USAF refused to take him back into their fold, citing a no-hero clause. Unable to return to his posting, he resigned his commission and turned to the life of a hero. Calling himself the Incredible Charybdis, he is indeed the Rock and a Hard Place.

But they'll all be stained brown and all.
