Quote:-20 max endurance is a pretty big hit on someone without an uber build. I was even feeling it pretty hard on the build that Arcanaville took the time to inspire about 7 months ago.I botched the ritual both times I did the mission.
It did not make my characters unplayable, and I continued to do the rest of the valentine's content with the debuff. Including a whole mess of tip missions to get valentine tips.
I'm not sure why anyone would complain about this?
The solution, of course, was to play another character the following day, while the debuff wore off. I like to think of it as my character sleeping off a "magical hangover."
(PS: Arcanaville, though I didn't actually use the build you posted, thanks for getting others interested in my conundrum and leading me to a pretty badass build.) -
Quote:Really? I buy new stuff when the old stuff breaks. Like the new car I got last year... old one had been having a lot of troubles and the repair bills were adding up. And I'm still on my first cell phone, which I will have had for 4 years next month... though it's a Razor model, and the flip hinge is showing significant wear, so I'm sure that'll be replaced within the next 6 months. My answer is "New is shiny!"
Basically why people buy anything new when they have an older model (car, coat, phone, coffee machine, etc.)
Or, of course, I'll buy stuff when the old stuff is no longer supported. Got an Xbox 360 a few months after it came out, as the release schedule of games for the original was trickling down to nothing of interest or importance and, of course, Dead Rising had just come out for the new system. >_>
I generally don't buy new power sets because they're "new and shiny." I bought Beam Rifle because it was on sale (and promptly never used it) and Street Justice because it's the best power set EVER and fits a lot of concepts that I was previously unable to satisfactorily fulfill. I still haven't gotten Titan Weapons, and I don't really plan to until it goes on sale or I get a really good idea for a new character.
I will be picking up Staff Fighting as soon as it's released, but Beast Mastery will probably wait until it goes on sale (though it is higher in my interest queue than either Titan Weapons or Beam Rifle). I'll also be getting plenty of use out of Dark Control on my new Dark/Dark Controller, which will be included in my subscription costs.
-----
As far as the OP's questions, I'd say I fall under #3 and #6. I want specific new power sets that follow themes that aren't as explored as others...
We could use some more psychic power sets for melee and buff/debuff characters.
We could also explore some new areas. I know the devs were hesitant to do so in the past, but I think now's a good time to start thinking about water sets for blast, control and buff/debuff characters. -
Did you ever try testing the memory as was suggested last week?

Gonna be honest... the only thing I really have an issue with there is the boots/shoes (I can't tell if they're supposed to be one item, but it looks like pink fuzzy socks and hard orange plastic shoes.) The rest of it looks pretty flamboyant, sure, but aside from the glitter, I wouldn't say it's effeminate. Like a modern day Jack Sparrow, even.
(And no, I do not mean homosexual when I say flamboyant.)
But I'm an admittedly poor judge of fashion, which is why my wardrobe consists of teeshirts, jeans, polo shirts and khakis. -
In my mind it is, and no one has said anything that's come close to changing that.
Quality/content and numbers are two different arguments, and I actually side with the people who were dissatisfied with the content previously. But the sheer number of people who are telling me that girls deserve more costume options than men is mindboggling and, frankly, insulting. -
Quote:Pretty much. I don't care if females have the badass stuff or not. I just care that they get more stuff than males. You are angry that female characters will have access to badass costume options just because they still have access to the saloon girl options that a lot of people didn't like in the first place.
My argument has nothing to do with content at all. Pretend the badass gunslinger bits are M&Ms and the saloon girl stuff is jelly beans if that makes it easier for you. I don't see why males get a pile of M&Ms, but females get an equivalent amount of jelly beans plus a similar amount of M&Ms.
Quote:Your complaint has no merit and less substance. Let it go. You're not losing anything, you're not being hurt, you're not being oppressed. You don't even seem to understand what the complaints about the gunslinger pack in the first place were about.
And whether you see it as such or not, males ARE losing parity in number of costume options. I don't care what those options are--that's arguing about content, which I've repeatedly said I'm not here to do. For the purpose of this argument, they could make a male-only thuggy rap guy costume pack or a sparkly Twilight vampire costume pack for all I care (I wouldn't buy either), as long as it gets the available number of male costume options close to that of females. -
Quote:I don't agree with the divide in costume content, and I've already said that I refuse to argue that point. My case is that I'd be perfectly happy if the devs decided to delete the saloon girl outfit altogether and just roll in the cowboy gear. When the boys got something new and cool (gunslinger outfits) girls got saloon girl outfits, which is not - even though it is relevant to the wild west - particularly typical garb for gunfighters. People were upset about this because boys got to be badasses and girls got to be sex workers. Not just women but men as well complained (and several have spoken up in this thread).
Now that the badass pieces are being proliferated to female characters, you're complaining that female characters have some of the costume parts that male/huge characters had ever since the pack came out.
Let me break it down for you:- I have no problem with males getting A and females getting A.
- I have no problem with males getting A and females getting B.
- I have a BIG problem with males getting A and females getting A + B.
(And FYI, I would also have an issue males getting A+B while females only got A or B. Or at least I would have before the Carnival of Light pack... now I'd say we're pretty much owed some new stuff, but I know we're not going to get it.) -
I think women are, for the most part, dressed terribly in comic books. I also know they're dressed that way because there are men who specifically buy those comic books to look at slutty super ladies. And that history is a big part of why I. personally, have no real interest in making female characters.
I would generally ignore a female character wearing a corset as a costume in this game, because sadly that is within the realm of what a female superhero could be expected to wear, and thus would neither arouse nor disgust me (because it's not real).
I would look at a real-life girl wearing a corset in public and wonder why the hell she's wearing her underwear in public, and I would think she should go put some damn clothes on.
... You know, basically the same way you'd look at a guy walking down the street in tights and a cape. -
When did I ever say I was complaining about the Pocket D pack?
You want to know my complaints? The fact that they made a female-only Carnival of Light pack at all is a start. That they're giving females just about all of the previously male-only costume pieces from the Magic, Steampunk and Gunslinger packs and giving males exactly nothing is a pretty obvious one too.
There are costume options that females have had for years that shouldn't have been kept from males. The female headbands and even tiaras are largely plain and wouldn't be out of place on males as circlets. Females have those nifty cloud and dragon bracers and padded gloves that have no reason to be limited to one gender. Shoulder kitties and pandas (and add the damn parrot that the ghost pirates get already), anybody? Girls have a lot of "tops with skin" and "bottoms with skin" options that males don't get access to (excluding the obvious things that they don't want us to have, like corsets and bikinis).
... Heck, I could even think of a few uses for the regular skirts to make costumes for space aliens, though I wouldn't expect those to ever get ported to males. -
Quote:This isn't reality. This is a video game, a SUPERHERO video game.In reality men have fewer "acceptable" clothing options than women.
We're talking about a genre where the majority of people where spandex. I know I've seen male superheroes wearing tutus before.
I agree. Going on numbers alone, there are 9 unisex options, 1 male-only hairstyle and one female-only hairstyle, plus 3 metallic dress options (top, skirt, shoes) for females. That's 13:10 female to male costume pieces, and it's within reason. -
Quote:Crap, can't believe I forgot to mention the armbands! Thanks, now I really want a unisex old-timey bartender outfit... complete with armbands!
And for the record, I really DO want an apron, so I can finish my crazed butcher character design and have a reason to buy Titan Weapons... -
-
Quote:You might want to rethink your argument when they're creating one costume for all models (male, female and huge)... PLUS an entirely different costume specific to females-only.completely and utter unrealistic for the amount of developer time we have. as has been pointed out by the devs. many times.
I NEVER understood this idea that some posters have that the devs and artists have infinite time to work on anything they want. As if there are no deadlines.
Some folks need a reality check. Again.
THAT sounds to me like an unrealistic expectation for the usage of developer time, yet it's apparently what we get. -
-
I'm cool with that, too, if that's how they want to play it. Don't have a use for that stuff personally, but at least it'd be fair.
-
Quote:Absolutely, yes. It's not a question in my mind of "what's in the costume bundles," it's "HOW MUCH is in the costume bundles." For every ten pieces that females get, I believe that males should get at LEAST eight.Would you genuinely prefer to stick to the status quo if that meant "parity"?
Having an issue with the Gunslinger bundle because of the differing costume content is a completely different beast, and it's not something I'm going to argue about. -
Quote:Right. Point me a post by ANYONE who said that girls shouldn't have gotten the Gunslinger gear because they "shouldn't wear coats and jackets."Girls wearing coats and jackets?
Blasphemous! YOU WILL DRESS LIKE A SALOON GIRL AND ONLY LIKE A SALOON GIRL AND YOU WILL LIKE IT
When you're done not finding that, then give me a good reason why guys don't get an olde-timey bartender outfit with suspenders and an apron included in that bundle? -
Quote:True enough. I'm annoyed over this change and the people saying I'm a whiny ***** for not liking this are just making it worse. Apparently parity is only required when boys get something new; when girls get something I just have to sit there and keep my mouth shut.I am pretty upset too. I think more people would voice that they are upset if Zwill (and several others) didn't throw e-tomatoes at the first person who said something.
Quote:I like fairness and equality. I just feel that is no longer something the devs care about. -
On the "bright" side, it looks like Recluse is going to stop focusing so much on Paragon so we have some time to recover from our recent losses. Of course, Arachnos is going to gain more territory in the process...
-
Quote:I'm losing developer time, apparently. Given this latest development, it now means that the developers are now "wasting time" on costume options that 2/3 of the models in the game can't use, since they've decided to forgo their traditional 2/3 get A and 1/3 gets B and allowed for 3/3 to get A and 1/3 STILL gets B.So tell me, are you actually losing anything due to this decision? Is your quality of life in or out of game substantially reduced because female characters have a greater variety of costume options? You look like you're really reaching for a reason to complain here.

Quote:Why? I don't roll characters willy-nilly. I come up with a concept first and build according to that. And since I was a big fan of male superheroes growing up, that's where my inspiration usually follows--female superheroes were always too scantily-clad to take seriously.Well then, stop being such a sausage factory and roll some female alts.
That said, I AM actually rolling a female alt in i22... a Dark/Dark Controller that's a conservative Japanese shrine maiden. -
Quote:Actually, I'm all for getting rid of the Huge model altogether and just expanding the physique sliders. And up until fairly recently (and with an additional $10 cost), it's not like one character could make use of both of those male models.Males have 2 models, females have 1. Males get one set of clothes that works on both models, females get 2 sets of clothes that works on their only model.
Sounds pretty fair to me.
(Although, as I told someone else tonight, it'd be pretty awesome to see the entire female costume selection get ported over to Huge characters... NO ONE would screw with one dressed as a saloon girl.)

Hey, I've got an idea.
The most common argument here is that women have more clothing options than men in real life, so they should in the game too, right? Okay. Women's clothing costs more in real life than men's, too, so therefore all female costume options should cost more than the male equivalents from now on.
