I spend a good deal of my time in the game soloing. Heck, I probably spend most of my time soloing. But there's just no real reason to add badges to say, "Hey, I did this solo."
Every character needs to have the ability to get any badge. A Claws/Regen Scrapper is going to have no problems taking down an EB solo, while an Empathy/Energy Defender is probably not going to be able to overcome their regen, period. And a "you spent 50 hours running solo" badge is just pointless fluff at this point, because there's so little challenge to it that it's unnecessary (kind of like how the SKing badges are all pointless now with Issue 16's Super Sidekicking--if you're a team leader, you rack up all the badges crazy fast, because it counts EVERYBODY in your team as a sidekick individually). It would also be crazy easy to farm; you'd earn credit for it every time you logged in to check the markets or just to chat with friends, as long as you weren't on a team.
To recap: Solo challenge badges are inaccessible to too many builds, and "running solo" badges are just plain pointless because you don't have to do anything to earn them.
Remember, this is a Massively Multiplayer Online game. If you want to be rewarded specifically for solo play, I suggest you check out one of the hundreds of decent single-player games released over the last 25 years. -
*blink* Ultra Mode is coming out in Issue 17, which is in turn coming out in April. Pretty sure it's not getting cancelled unless a meteor strikes the server farm.

Quote:... I can't tell if this post is serious. It's either hypocritically demented or satirically brilliant.OP, don't listen to the haters. A lot of the people on this board are your typical fanbois who cannot hear ANYTHING that changes THEIR idea of this game. I think it's a great idea. I especially like the idea of a badge for solo'ing EB's and so forth. Certainly one for those brave folks who solo AV's/GM's. That is truly worthy of a badge.
Ignore the (game destroying) fanboi sycophants and keep posting good ideas. -
Thanks for the very informative post, Saist.
Also, great title. I laughed. -

Quote:Um, I'd complain if I were hung with any rope. Those things really limit your ability to intake oxygen.Ye Gods. Some folks would complain if they were hung with a new rope.
... Well, I'd try to complain... it would most likely come out as a dry rasp, followed a bit later by a gurgle. -
Quote:Blade was commenting that he refuses to spend money unless he knows what he's getting, which is a fair and perfectly valid point to make. Some people can't and/or don't want to spend $30 on what could be considered a frivolous purchase. If NCSoft misses out on sales they otherwise would have had due to crappy marketing, isn't it better that they know about them and why?
Given the case presented by him, I was simply stating that, once Going Rogue comes out, he (and everyone else who is interested) will know more or less exactly what's in the expansion, from a meta viewpoint at least. If he doesn't want to spend the money blindly now, there's absolutely no reason he has to. He can wait until July when the expansion is released, and make his decision then.
Technically, nothing NCSoft's marketting is doing now has cost them any sales yet... but it might cost them pre-sales in the very near future. I think it's pretty safe to assume that most of the people continuing their CoH subscriptions will purchase the expansion in one form or another, either soon as a pre-sale or once it's available after launch. Those who don't purchase it will, sadly, probably cancel their accounts soon after. At the same time, some old players will return and new players will join the mix. (But that's pretty much how it goes with every issue that gets released... it'll probably be a little more pronounced in all categories for a paid expansion.)
There will always be consumers who want to know exactly what they're getting before they put down cash, and there will be those who are okay with making an investment based on goodwill, past experience and faith in a company/product. Blade and several others are the former, many others who have posted in this thread and others like it are the latter; there is no "right" group.
... Except marketing. They're pretty much awful, and everyone who thinks they're the devil is right. >_> -
Quote:So don't preorder it. And if it still doesn't interest you when it releases in July, then just plain don't buy it. No wall of marketing gripes required. If it doesn't, that's fine too, and I expect them to spin up what I personally find a rather lacklustre set of goodies as shiny as they can - but I still expect, by the time they are asking for my money, for them to be as clear as possible about what my money is going towards. GR might be so awesome I'd happily preorder it, but as is, I can't imagine paying for it when I have no idea what it actually contains beyond side-switching and two powersets.

Quote:We don't know for sure, but probably this coming week or early the following one.2. WHEN is the date because I heard we would be able to do so prior to Double XP weekend?
I saw some people saying March 2nd/3rd in another thread last week, but I haven't seen anything official to confirm it. -
-
Quote:They are part of Going Rogue. You have to purchase the expansion in some way in order to access the powersets on the live servers.OK, I did not read the whole thread, but I did read quite a bit and I still don't know - are Dual Pistols and Demon Summoning part of I17, or part of Going Rogue? I don't care about the pre-order early access, I want to know if we (ultimately) get the powersets as a free issue upgrade, or if we have to pay for them.
Anyone know the answer?
If you do not purchase Going Rogue, then you do not get Dual Pistols or Demon Summoning. At all.
(At least, not in the foreseeable future... maybe 2-3 years down the road, they'll give Going Rogue to every subscriber the same way they did when they made both CoH and CoV accessible in 2008 if you had an existing account for one or the other.) -
Quote:When you pre-purchase Going Rogue, you get early access to Dual Pistols and Demon Summoning. You still have to wait until July to get access to Praetoria and everything else except for the aforementioned powersets (but you don't have to pay anything extra at this date). When the title says "get going rogue" early, my initial thought is "yay. Not only do I get early access to Pistols then Demon but Praetoria as well."
Any thoughts frenz?
And this topic seems kinda important....one initial post from a redname....then no follow up from anyone???......not even the our friendly-neighborhood BABs???
And the announcement was made at about 4:00 PM at Paragon Studios' time; that's the main reason no other red name posts have appeared, given that most of them probably went home at about 5:00 and/or are way too busy to check the boards these days anyway. BABs especially falls under the latter--unless there is a serious animation bug in the Dual Pistols beta, you're unlikely to hear from him at all. -
At a store like Gamestop, yes, probably. But the phrasing on the announcement seems to imply that you won't get a code to use the powersets early unless you do the pre-purchase through the NCSoft online store.
-
I wasn't sure what was meant by "if they want everything." I was just trying to cover all the bases.
Pretty much what Agg said above, with extra emphasis on the bit about the item pack pricing being assumed and subject to change. Seems like it'll be $55 until they officially tell us how much that item pack will cost. -
Quote:$40 (US) at the store in July gets you City of Heroes/Villains, the Going Rogue expansion and all the bonuses (costumes, stance emotes, inherent stealth power, etc.) that are being released at the time of the expansion. They gave that price. My major problem with it is that they should just be clearer about it. If they are going to call it the complete collection, then I think it should contain everything on offer.
Why could they not just post the price they want people to pay if they want everything?
But if you're thinking it'll include the previous microtransaction packs (Good vs. Evil, Mac, Wedding, Cyborg, Magic, Super Science and Martial Arts), absolutely not. Nor should it for that low a price. -
Quote:If I understand the announcement correctly, there will not be preorder/pre-purchase codes given to retailers. It looks like a deal that will only be available through NCSoft's online store.Because if all I want is the powersets early, I can do a pre-order, get the code, redeem the code, then cancel the pre-order getting my money back. I know a fair number of people who've done this for betas for Star Trek Online, Aion, etc. I'm reasonably sure retailers are getting tired of this, and NCSoft does need to work with their retailer partners, like it or not.
-
Quote:I think you're confused to the point where you've confused me, too. ^_^;I'm a bit confused still so GR when it's finally done is just use purchasing new content, not new powers, since we can get those with pre order, and not the ability to port bad to good and good to bad, or get ultra mode? <scratches head> I are confuzed. o.@
I'm going to try and deconstruct your NyQuil-driven post here...
1) You pay $30 directly to NCSoft as the pre-purchase amount. This entitles you to the Going Rogue expansion when it is released. You do not have to pay anything else.
2) You get Dual Pistols as early as March, and Demon Summoning as early as April (depending on when you do your pre-purchase transaction).
.....a) Ultra Mode is now coming for free with Issue 17.
3) When Going Rogue is released in July, then you get the new Praetorian zones, the ability to switch sides with your characters, and presumably the new end-game content.
If you do NOT pre-purchase, you do not get Dual Pistols or Demon Summoning early. They are only for people who purchase the Going Rogue expansion. (If you buy the expansion after it is released, you get access to the powersets then.)
Did that hopefully clear it up a bit for you?
Quote:Also am I reading this right or is it the Nyquil...
In order to get Pistols first you pay a set price, then if you want the items exclusive to the expansion you must pay a higher set price in addtion to the first price? Or am I reading that wrong?
*Assuming you preorder when the option is first made available.
If you want the special bonus costumes, stance emotes, stealth power and whatever other goodies are in the "Complete Collection," then yes, you'll have to pay an additional fee once the expansion is actually released. -
Quote:Wait... you'll be pissed if the box does come with something other than a disc, code and manual...?I don't care. I'm paying the same price for the collectors edition - I want a boxed collectors edition.
I'll only -not- be pissed if the boxed version does not contain anything aside from a disk, a code, and a manual. -
Quote:In a sideways sweeping motion, and aimed predominately at the meaty area to the side of the head's main orifice, yes.Would it be similar to the termination point of an upper limb coming into contact at considerable speed with the frontal area of the section above your neck?
(By the way, for those of you who have difficulty reading the tone of posts on a message board, this post is just a joke. While not happy about the lack of a Complete Collection preorder, I do not particularly feel as though I'm being slapped in the face.)
-
Hrm. I'm actually a little... well, for lack of a better word, "hurt." I was ready to slap down $80 to preorder two copies of the Complete Collection to get everything on both my accounts.
As of this announcement, I'm only going to preorder one copy, and it'll be applied to my secondary account. I'll buy a Complete Collection retail box to apply to my primary account in July.
And I'll be a lot more wary about upgrading my secondary account with the item pack, unless the extra costume pieces it contains turn out to be really good. It'll be even less likely that I'll upgrade it if the item pack costs more than the $10 price difference between the two editions. -
Pretty sure BT's got it right. The Collector's Edition is called the COMPLETE COLLECTION for a reason--it'll have Going Rogue and all the extras in one package.
-
Quote:I'm definitely going to preorder--I was intending to since the expansion was first announced last year! But you gotta remember, a lot of us work during the day.Gosh, everyone is too busy playing their Dual Pistol characters to actually post some nice screenshots, huh?
Oh well, that may be a good indication of how many pre-orders they will be getting I suppose.
(I just happened to have my screenshots handy from when I designed the costume on the live servers.) -
That black labcoat makes for a nice look, Bass.
Here's my radioactive cowboy, The Polonium Kid:
Soon as I get some levels on him, I'll add a faint green glowing aura with glowing eyes. -
Quote:It's not like he probably would have listened anyway...Wait, so no one pointed out to that guy that we aren't getting Dual Pistols with the Double XP Weekend?
And you DO get Dual Pistols for Double XP weekend, as long as you preorder Going Rogue before or during it. You just don't get them for free.
From the Double XP Weekend announcement:
