    Game shut down

Can you enter the game if you choose to start the game in safe mode (using the check box on the EULA screen)?

Fixed. Don't worry about my Scrapper, he's going to be Alpha Boost slotted like crazy ASAP.

... Not that you'd team with a Stalker on a TF anyway.

I'm actually looking at this from the other direction... so, if you're at a -4 level debuff, do you earn that discrepancy in rewards? If so, this would really help to ease the grind for my final inf badge... $_$
  4. I believe you intended to post this here: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/forumdisplay.php?f=603

And just so you don't think I'm ragging on you... I'd really like to see an Assault/Defense AT added to the game in the future. The best fit for my main characters, story-wise, would be a combination of Energy Assault and Willpower.

It's not just sustained DPS... if you compare any power available in both a Scrapper and a Stalker set, the Scrapper one does more flat damage. If I recall correctly, the individual Stalker attacks only do between 70 and 80% of Scrapper damage.

There's little reason to argue about sustained DPS when a Scrapper can completely outclass a Stalker in a single pass of an attack chain.

My personal thought on fixing Stalkers has been to boost their single-target damage attacks to 5-10% above those of Scrappers while leaving the AoE attacks where they lie currently (aka, intentionally sub-par).

But as has been pointed out, if you ask 10 people their opinions on Stalkers, you'll get 20 different potential fixes...
  6. I second... er, third Dechs' idea. That's one of the most interesting thoughts on increasing a Stalker's performance that I've heard. (And given what I've been seeing floating around the boards in regards to proposed Stalker buffs, it's also nice to hear an idea from someone who actually understands the AT, and doesn't just want to make them Scrappers.)
  7. I volunteer Golden Girl for a stay at the Behavior Adjustment Facility. She's obviously a Resistance sympathizer.

    Hail Cole-bra! >_>
  8. I think that more people playing more 50s will help, but I think we're long past the days when you could pick up an entire set of Hecatomb for a quarter billion.

I do think the extra drops from all the 50s grinding away at the existing TFs for Incarnate loot is going to put a sizable dent in the current prices. We'll probably see things back down to around the prices they were when GR launched, or at least half way between the prices now and the prices then.

    Then again:

    A) We now have access to a third build, so who knows how many people are going to feel a need to slot that one full of purples as well.
    B) Lesser-played or team-built alts (Stone Tanks, Empaths, Kins, and the other toons that everyone makes with the sole intent to help out their friends) are going to be in high demand for the new content, and as they get played, their owners will likely start focusing more on their builds.
    C) I failed Intro to Economics in college (its the only class I ever failed), so I very likely have no idea what I'm talking about.
  9. It was also the other way around--only players who transferred from the North American servers to the European servers got Passport.

And on the topic of the thread... as much as I'd love there to be a guaranteed way to get Bug Hunter (it's pretty much the only thing I'm missing now, and several years of submitting various bugs still haven't seen fit to put it in my hands), there's really no way to do so without a sweeping change to how the badge is awarded, i.e. making it no longer require a developer granting it manually. But that would ruin the intent of the badge to begin with.

I think the absolute best thing they could do with both Bug Hunter and Passport would be to simply make them not count towards badge totals. They should still be there, available for all to see and for you to show off if you see fit, but they shouldn't count towards one's total badge collection.

    WE'VE GOT OPEN BETA SIGN!

    AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!

  11. I've been having a lot of fun with an Elec Control/Kinetics Controller, but I haven't gotten up high enough to throw Gremlins and Fulcrum Shift into the mix yet.

The AoE sleep power really helps with the aggro so far, though.

I dunno, because it requires pre-requisites? I would understand an increased endurance cost for equal resistance--that happens a lot with similar powers--but increased endurance for half of a comparable power's function? Not reasonable, in my book.

Why would you expect a Controller to have better resistance than my SR Scrapper?

Others, like Super Speed, Stealth or Recall Friend, don't. There may be some powers from your primary or secondary power sets that don't require extra slots as well (for instance, in Super Reflexes, there's no real need to add slots to Practiced Brawler or Quickness... though everything else requires at least two or three extra slots to be truly effective).

As a personal example: in my i19 build, I stripped the extra slots that I'd put into Elude (I had it six-slotted with three defense, three recharge) and left it with a single common recharge IO. That's five freed-up slots that get to go to new powers, and I can still fire off Elude (in the increasingly less-frequent instances that I find it necessary) about every 5 minutes.

Oh, and it costs ΒΌ more endurance than Invulnerability's "Temp Invulnerability" power while providing exactly half the resistance bonus. Yeah, that sounds fair.

Procrastination isn't a viable justification for not being ready.
Um, that doesn't help you should you actually want to put slots in your new inherent Fitness powers.

But I agree that procrastination isn't an excuse for not being ready--I've already created builds in Mids' for my main characters (with leftover slots saved for Health and Stamina), so it'll be a relatively simple matter to actually perform the respecs when Issue 19 goes live. They're the only characters I have who actually use dual builds right now, and I'm not worried about trying to "bank" extra freespecs for anyone--I rarely change my characters' builds once I get them the way I like.

For someone that only plays a few hours a week, it SEEMS so far from what folks are saying, that you will not be getting to enjoy this new feature really.

So to us casual's....we'll still be left asking when end-game content, that we all can enjoy, will be added.
Unlock the Alpha Slot. Do any level 50 content. Get Incarnate Shard common salvage randomly as drops. Use Incarnate Shards to create uncommon salvage, which can in turn be used to craft the Alpha Boosts.

That's how things worked in the GR beta. It sounds pretty casual-friendly to me. (I got in after they pulled the Alpha Slot out of i18, though, so I don't have first-hand experience of how it worked.)

My question to you, though, is: why do you care about how long it will take you to get said Incarnate upgrades if you're not even planning to do the content (Task Forces) they were designed for?
  18. As of the launch of City of Villains in October 2005, adding more than 3 enhancements of a particular type to a power drastically reduces the benefit of those enhancement. This is called Enhancement Diversification.

As for needing to respec, don't worry about it too much this second. When Issue 19 launches (currently targetted at this coming Tuesday), you'll get a free respec for every character, which can be used by typing "/respec" in your chat bar.
  19. They don't stack. That's the whole point of them offering them a week apart.
  20. My neighbor's kids are getting a Wii for Christmas this year, and I'm planning to get the six year old daughter Babysitting Mama.

The stalker power is useless in general, and it's buggy on top of that; a few weeks back, my scrapper died while in the room and activating the power, by the power. For a Master run, I absolutely will not use it as a Scrapper and will not let a Stalker attempt it either. Hell, I won't even allow a Stalker on a master run
Sorry, I don't have any other characters that could participate in the upper level strike forces. (I've only got 4 50s--a Scrapper, a Stalker and two Controllers, and I've only been playing the Scrapper and Stalker since GR launched... for badges!)

Furthermore, you are a terrible person for not letting Stalkers on your team, because they are awesome.

Actually, I honestly don't blame you for the "no Stalkers" rule; people in general keep trying to play them as Scrappers, and they just don't work that way.

Let's be honest, the only reason any of us still play Coh (aside from having an older computer) is there Is no other good option. For this genre anyways.
I disagree. I'm on my second gaming machine that I built specifically to play CoH on.

No one that has played for years can tell me they are still as excited playing Coh as they were their 1st couple years???
Some of the "magic" of not knowing what's next is gone, yes, but I now understand the systems and how to build characters a helluva lot better than I did 6 years ago. I would beat your pants off in a debate about this game being better-designed now versus at launch, and I'd have no problems constructing an argument that the game is a lot more fun now too.

As soon as another real good game like this comes out, we are all outta here! Admit it! Lol. So make one nc soft! You did pretty good with this one! It's just gettin rusty now!
I admit nothing. In a worst-case scenario (or, as you'd probably see it, a best-case scenario), I'd just end up subscribing to both.

You may be bored off your butt with the direction the game is headed, but I've been thrilled with everything* they've done with City of Heroes. The game just keeps getting better and better, and I think I'm honestly more excited about Issue 19 than I was about Going Rogue.

*Except for Issues 13 and 15, which were total carp melee, and at least 15 had somewhat of an excuse and was followed up with a good issue a little over two months later...

    I am REALLY hoping that one of the Incarnate abilities will allow us a resistance power, be it click, toggle or auto. My SR Scrapper is way too squishy when the hits connect, and while there's now a way for Scrappers to get a temporary defense bonus, there is no way to do the same for resistance. ;_;

    Why not, right?

Also... while you are building this stuff, CoH Team, try and make these things that have visuals built with Power Customization in mind.
You know that people will want it... So, if you're building something from the ground up, may as well include that aspect!
And I agree completely with what you're saying here.
