Easy-peasy, if your computer's powerful enough to run WinAmp or iTunes or whatever in the background.

This is an excellent object lesson in the old saw, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." There wasn't any actual reason for them to make Windows Vista; they could've just kept updating XP, like Apple's done with OSX all these years. But no, the marketing department said, "It's time for a new version! It's time to boldly reinvent the wheel!" You'd think they'd have learned and just made the next rev Windows XP Service Pack 4: We're Really Sorry About Vista.

Sure, but their stuff always works, so that's not so bad.

This is why we need to start with names.
I had a classmate in high school named Baby Girl $SURNAME. That's apparently what they put on your birth certificate when you're a girl and your parents can't be bothered.

Heroes generally don't consider genocide an option.

To be fair, what they actually did do was also pretty stupid, but in an entirely different way.

I don't think you're going to find many superheroes - or actors, or authors, or anybody else whose career involves using a nom de guerre, for that matter - in fiction or real life who decided, "No, you know what, I'm gonna hold off on having a name for a while." It just... doesn't happen. Car companies will occasionally build a car before deciding what to call it, but I've yet to see one start selling them before naming them.

Apparently, being bogged down with searching, researching and squeezing our imagination until a clever idea pops out (or your brain turns purple and explodes) before you can play the game is a situation no one minds suffering through...

...or they just didn't think to suggest something to solve it.
... yyyyeah, I'm thinking "A". This is basically asking the programmers to solve a problem that isn't one.

They are listed by these names on the official City of Heroes website Origins page too.
The individual enhancements' names follow similar conventions when you shop for them in stores. A Genome Alteration Reflex Boost, for instance, is an Accuracy Mutation/Science DO, while its Technology/Natural equivalent is an Illumination Grenade. All the T/N DOs are some kind of widget or another ("Oxygen Device", for instance, is a T/N endurance reduction), while the M/S ones are all some sort of Genome Alteration, DNA Resequencing, or Molecular Bonding.

It's basically just flavor text. You'll see a similar sort of thing in SOs (the Science ones are all based on being subjected to some element or radiation, the Tech ones are all some kind of cyborg component, etc.) as well.

In other news, the "game needs bank" horse is still dead.

... but we can rename characters now. Have been able to for a couple of years, in fact.
  18. No, I don't think my god is in this game. In fact, I haven't got one, so that would be... difficult for the devs to implement.

It's worthless really and a huge risk to not have this feature.
If somebody's stealing stuff from your SG, one would think the thing to do there would be to kick them out. The "huge risk" is in keeping known thieves within the fold, not being unable to demote them.

A radical thought, I know, but people did it for, gosh, going on five years there before Farm Architect was implemented.

Well, Thugs is the only set in which there's more than one design for the various henchmen, I think (maybe Necro?), so we wouldn't be able to tell from out here whether it was handled differently in the others.

Some of those would be a little silly - for instance, it wouldn't be in keeping with the power set's theme for an Ice Controller's pet to be a robot - but your example does make me think. Why shouldn't an Illusion Controller be able to create illusions of... well, of anything he's seen before, at least? Key it off those "defeat so many of this type of bad guy" badges, or maybe gladiator badges, and those guys suddenly have a huge range of visual variety. They still don't do anything the normal Phantom Army can't do, but it'd sure spice things up visually.
