Nope, it's a testament to how puritanical the mods can be

    [/ QUOTE ]

Oh, come on now - the Mods have a JOB to do here. The parent company means for this to be a forum for an all-ages game, and that means they have to hold to some specific guidelines here on the forums. They HAVE to NOT be seen as giving permission to post "mature content." They state quite clearly the forum guidelines (as quoted in a comment above) and somehow thats just not good enough for some people.

I would like the idea of tossing out a theme rather than a style. After all, an artists style is what it is. Maybe we can modify this to a theme or concept or a quote or something to inspire the piece.

    [/ QUOTE ]
But don't you already have that in the monthly fan art contest already? I was trying to get something that was not going to step on those toes.

    And shouldn't artists be flexable?

    [/ QUOTE ]
Hey Snow, I'm resisting the urge to smirk: "Artists? Flexible? Ha!" but I won't go there.

Personally, I would like to see a Cubist rendition of a hero or villain - and I think there are probably a lot more artists here who COULD do it than other posters believe, and could do it well. I do agree that the number of people here who would want to would be smaller...but not zero!

Its good to break out of the comfort zone now and again - its good to stretch. And I applaud your suggestion for exactly that.

However, since there's been such a cool reception to the idea - I would modify it thusly:

Treat it like the big, extra-credit "nearly impossible math problem" some teachers put up - something thats intentionally going to be pretty difficult - but to the BOLD who try and succeed, go high honors. A guitar magazine used to run a monthly "betcha can't play THIS!" submitted by some GREAT players that was always really challenging (I could never manage to play them) - but for some people that kind of challenge is the very best kind of fun.
  7. [ QUOTE ]
Hmm, as I recall it is 50% up front and the remainder upon completion. Which is normal for any type of commission.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes - "50% up front and the remainder upon completion." - that is correct.

I'm relieved to hear that Thor's Assassin has actually spoken to Gill, that he's still alive.

As I said, I hadn't wanted to stir up trouble, but was very concerned at the total lack of information.
  8. [ QUOTE ]
ah the monthly "poke MMOART with a stick to see if it is still alive" thread.

    [/ QUOTE ]

..um, sorry - not meaning to stir up trouble. Just honestly concerned.
  9. Still no changes to the MMOArt website?

I emailed 'em a few times - both at support@mmoart.com and at gillbates@mmoart.com - over the past few weeks and have not received any response.

Obviously Starchasm has heard from them, so I guess they're all still alive and well. ..and I know its the holidays and all, too. But I sure wish there were some official word.

In ANY case, I wish them the very best.
  10. Cool idea - the silhouette thing!

I especially like the Texas Titan, Crimson Prime, and Dark Titan ones
  11. Yeah - doesn't appear that any of my characters who have supergroups on ANY server got any prestige.

    Soultrain (nsfw)

now, was the dark shading on specifically that portion of the chest really necessary?

Hate me if you want - but in my opinion it really ruins an otherwise nice piece of art.

    Odd question.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    hmm?

Okay look at it this way Kat. You have the money but can only choose one artist from DA to do a piece for you, it can be anyone but you won't be able to afford another piece forever. Who would that one artist from DA be?

    [/ QUOTE ]
You realize, of course, that by creating such a competition/poll - SOMEone's going to lose the popularity contest...?
  14. Of course, I'd love to nominate my own character Evil CaptainScience, but I'm not likely to get any other votes

But, who's that other guy? ...what's his name? ...something like "Sore Assignation" ... or "Four's An Assignemnt"? ... darn, just can't remember...

I still fail to note the insult here. Is it really something that can be chalked up to a difference in culture, or am I just missing the point?

    [/ QUOTE ]
probably not worth the time to figure out - but I just figure he's throwing two separate insults combined - as if he were calling Jugger a "Loser" as well as a "excrement" - like calling someone a "stupid jerk" - you could call them "stupid" or you could call them a "jerk" - or you could combine them into one, double insult: "Stupid jerk". But like I said, probably not worth the time wasted dissecting his insults.

The guy's copied someone else's work and sold it, denied it and insulted those who caught him,
  16. The sad thing is - that now, how can we trust that ANY of his work is genuine? Not a good road...
  17. Do not be discouraged! How long did it take to get good with a pencil? No, it won't take that long - but you will need to give it a bit more time than 12 hours. It will come.

Years ago, when I began using a tablet on my machine at work (several jobs ago) - the one extra benefit was that people who snuck into my office to use my computer just COULDN'T manage to use the tablet, and thus stopped snakin' my computer.

Plus - didn't someone else post earlier that one of the problems with using an Adesso tablet was that getting the right drivers to get it to work with various programs was ...a challenge?
  18. nice little tutorial there, Juggertha.
  19. I currently have a Wacom Graphire3 4x5 incher. I love using a tablet and stylus much more than using a mouse for art (although, a former instructor draws better with a mouse than most do with a real pencil!). However, I do feel very cramped by the small drawing space.

I did have a much larger, older 9 x 12 inch tablet a few years ago and felt that it was TOO MUCH space. I was overworking my arms by having to reach all over that space. MINOR quibble.

I'm saving for a 6 x 9 as I feel that will be just the perfect size FOR ME.
  20. You could try out OpenCanvas 4.5

    http://www.portalgraphics.net/en/

I heard about it here on this forum - seems to be pretty full featured and pretty durn reasonably priced.
  21. There ya go - its in the blood!

Enjoy the journey! Expect some frustration, but DO NOT let it ever deter you! The joys of art are boundless.
  22. Very glad you're still around!

    Get better!
  23. Ha! I knew there was something recent, took some digging (my initial 'search' attempts weren't helpful), but I found these - which I hope will be helpful!

  24. Over on the MMOArt forums, there's a thread:

    "how to begin?"

There were some other one's here, recently (few weeks?) with lots of good suggestions, books, sites, etc....
