Quote:Yes. It's different. We get that. But it's possible to deviate from the source material while drawing on the strengths of it and quite honestly, beyond the zombie makeup effects, the show hasn't really impressed. What's nice about translations from one medium to another is we often get to explore events and characters more thoroughly, but it's hard to do that when too many throw-away sub-plots and secondary characters are tossed in. I'm all for creative liberties being taken, so long as interesting things actually happen.as Kirkman has said many many times.....the Walking Dead comics are NOT canon....I really wish people would get over that fact.....the show would be an absolute borefest if it was page for page out of the comic......you cannot really base a show or movie for that matter exactly as it appears in a comic.....it wont work...especially live action.....animated is another matter...
The fact of the matter is that show has taken another path already as we saw with the first season.....Shane isnt dead, the ended up at the CDC building in Atlanta (which they never did in the comic...I dont think they have....however I only read up to the prison fiasco).....and the redneck that was left handcuffed on the roof.....he was never in the comic to begin with.....and folks want to complain about the tv series not getting to the prison...yet? please..... -
Er wha-? I thought it seemed obvious that Debbie was working against Sookie when she pointed out her presence to Martonia and then tried to leave without her. Then in the previews it's clear she's going back to the dark side.
-
Thoughts:
- Quote of the night: TIE between "I just did this to piss off my parents!" and "I might be parrot-phrasing a little bit."
- Wish they would have extended the cemetery fight scene for the beginning of this episode; slightly jarring to see Bill going from being silvered to rushing to Sookie's aid, and I was hoping Pam would have intervened on Eric's behalf.
- It's obvious they're aware that separating the characters so much in the previous season hurt the overall plot, but I'm not sure throwing all the secondary characters together for a sub-plot out of left field is the answer.
- "Monster's Box?" Ouch.
- At least Tara's still got enough sense to see that Martonia has lost it and she's got enough of her self-worth left not to blindly follow anyone.
- Yeah, cuz it's not like absconding with another man's family is going to piss him off even more; that's not going to backfire at all, Sam.
- Dammit, Debbie is regressing; maybe she'll hook up with Tommy in a motel room which is promptly struck by a meteor.
- Arg, this episode is pulling a Smallville, by which I mean they're cobbling together weird circumstances, in this case Sookie's half-dead dreaming, as an excuse to show us characters hooking up who normally wouldn't, in this case a Sookie sandwich.
- I think they didn't hear me mention that I was tired of the haunted baby sub-plot.
- Looks like Nan pulled cold ***** duty on this episode, so where's Pam? I thought maybe she'd help out Bill at the start of this episode and use that to convince him to rescind his "Tara is off-limits" policy.
- After immediately bringing up Sookie's telepathy, it seemed clear Debbie was just concentrating hard on those thoughts to conceal her motives, which is a shame since I thought perhaps Debbie could get her character development back and take Pam's place as Sookie's supernatural girlfriend.
- Man, if it's that easy to get in and out of Martonia's stronghold, I'm wondering how it is that Bill didn't just send a bunch of mercs in to take her out, or bomb it and blame it on a gas leak or something.
- Dammit, Alcide, you should've let them kill that plot-dragging, scene-wasting little snot!
- Hooray for Sam for finally hitting that.
- Rassafrassin sonuva, we came *this* close to Jessica abolishing her no topless scenes rule tonight! Ahem ...
- I really, really, REALLY hope that the whole haunted baby sub-plot wasn't the first of many where Lafayette is possessed and has to resolve the unfinished business of ghosts.
- Aw, I was hoping Martonia just brought that follower along as a sacrificial lamb.
- Okay, so we've got all the Louisiana sheriffs against Bill; is there any way he isn't totally ******?
Let's throw out ways that Bill might actually survive the night.
- Nan is an ancient and helps fend off the sheriffs, allowing Bill time to escape.
- The hold over the sheriffs is broken when Martonia is attacked (killed would probably do it but it's unlikely since she's the big bad and there's 3 episodes left), possibly by Pam, Sookie, or Debbie.
- Martonia's spell on Eric is the only one broken when either an intervening Pam or Sookie is threatened and he holds off the other sheriffs.
- Bill flees and enters a home to which only he has been invited or a safe haven of another kind.
-
Hmm, from the cinematic it seems like something that would work better as an action RPG rather than an MMO.
-
They probably should have went ahead and made it a Top 25 list.
My mind also went to Voltron's sword. -
I wouldn't go as far as saying Darabont was the "guiding creative light" (Kirkman, anyone?), but that still sucks.
-
Here are some snaps of the set where you can see his outfit is clearly brighter than depicted in the first reveal photo, though with Snyder's visual style it may still be modified to be darker.
Also, he's missing the yellow shield on the cape. -
linkage
Sounds pretty sweet. I'm curious if any of our forumites were lucky to see this in person?
Also, I'm psyched that Joss Whedon is getting a crack at this. Hopefully, this'll lead to him getting more projects like this. -
I'm a little worried about them deviating so much as far as the additional characters and plot changes go. On one hand there's the opportunity to explore things that the comic didn't, but on the other certain elements worked really well in the comic, specifically characterization beats, and if they're just looking to stretch it out they've got to do it without letting the story and characters get stretched too thin.

Damn, doesn't look like they make it to the prison this season.

Quote:Ah, this makes me think of how gloriously bloody X-Men Origins: Wolverine the game was.Indeed, Wolverine may be an honorable man at heart, but on the outside he's more of a berzerker warrior. Plus the fact that he has retractable razor sharp indestructible claws. Anyone he faces with the claws should be carved into pieces.....
As much as I enjoyed the 90's X-men cartoon, how many times did Wolverine face a robot, someone in a suit of armor, or someone with a hand held weapon that he would slash with the claws instead of the person using the weapon?.......oh I'd say about EVERY fight. Didn't care for X-men Evoluton (Cyclops a student and Wolverine/Storm are teachers...?????) enjoyed Wolverine and the X-men as it was a bit grittier but they still held back on what Wolverine could/should do. -
They might go that route if only to disguise the fact that the actor didn't return, but I think it's just a generic werewolf.
I think they'd go with something a little different than what we've seen before. I felt Marcus was a legitimate threat in the sequel and he was shown to be capable of completely owning Michael, so let's see what they come up with next. -
Quote:Oh god that makes me want to laugh and scream at the same time.Actually, I've always wanted to see if I could kill someone over the internet. Hey, Ironik, watch this!

Quote:I'm sure Wesley Snipes would welcome the work. That looks like a blast. The last image made me laugh out loud. And by the guys who made Crank and Crank 2? Sold.
I still say Marvel should team up Ghost Rider, Blade, Moon Knight and Morbius as their Adult Avengers.
Also, if you want to see what an awesome Ghost Rider movie would look like, watch Drive Angry. That flick is simply bad-*** supernatural demonic fun. William Fitchner is crazy awesome. -

There's more I knew but I had to post something before all of these were claimed, thus negating my work. -
Would you be kind enough to edit that post so that the two images are right on top of each other?
-
Alright, if we try to name them all, will someone come up with a way of numbering them or possibly modifying the picture so they're all numbered?
-
Let's see how they explain his lack of comb-over/toupee.
-
Yeah, not really liking Nick Cage returning. I'm sure the budget for this one was lower than the first, yet the Rider looks better; not sure if it's because CGI has moved forward that much or if they went with a different effects studio or they just modified the style to look a little better on film.

Quote:He's supposed to do both, apparently. I just heard about the Blade Runner thing, but the Aliens prequel was something I heard he was committed to at least a month ago.I thought Ridley Scott was going to do an Aliens prequel...
I'm glad Ridley is doing something Sci Fi.
There's a synopsis floating around about the Aliens prequel, Prometheus, that revolves around the large being in the spaceship from the first film.
