I don't know how to ask this without sounding like the ultimate D-bag... so I will just come out and say it: Venture, how is it that you have become the self-appointed critic and venerated "deity" of mission writing? Why does anyone care what you think?
[/ QUOTE ]
You should ask CaptainAmazing, he's the one who's asking Venture permission to create a new character. I'm still trying to figure out if he's concern trolling.
[/ QUOTE ]
Wait just a minute. Venture's been at this longer then ANYONE. Why wouldn't I ask him? Don't assume, it's dangerousVenture's got the know how to figure out whats right and wrong to use in this game, the following behind him shows you as much. He tells you whats good and bad, and even Positron has endorsed him o.o!
HOW, is that trolling? o.0

Various people - including Venture himself - have explained to you, *repeatedly*, that just because he started his own review thread first and got a single "nice job" nod from a redname does not make him any sort of authority on what goes into MA arcs or on anything else in the game. And yet here you are, *asking him permission* - not even to write a particular storyarc, but to *roll a character with a particular concept*.
The only explanation I can see is that you're trying to "teach Venture a lesson" by playing the part of a hopelessly naive forumgoer who will not do anything ingame without Venture's permission. You're expecting him to go "Oh noes, the poor confused easily-swayed players are treating me as the go-to authority now, I guess I should stop posting so they can go back to enjoying the game however they like".
[/ QUOTE ]
As outlandish a theory as that is, I suppose if I were to look at it from your perspective, I could understand that conclusion o.@ However, Venture's the top of the food chain, despite the fact anyone likes it or not o.0 I think we need to take his advice and his conclusions, and implement them. We may not run into so many issues down the road. Had these standards been around, would we have had farms? o.0 If a redname goes out of their way to tell a person that they are doing a good job, one can easily say that this is a supportive action. It shows that THIS is the correct way of doing things, otherwise, why would a personal opinion be expressed on the boards by an official? Devs have gone out of their way to make sure they stress that anything thats said that doesn't include their area of responsibility is a personal opinion. Positron is in charge of everything o.0
As far as the character, it was a passing thought. He's obviously well versed, and I would value any input, but I don't think in the end I would stab the idea DOWN if he told me it was wanting o.0 Anyone who'd do that, is scary.
Granted, someone sat down and talked with me and showed me how something like this MAY come up, I didn't think it would be depicted as such, but then again, I'm not looking for trouble. I've calmed down a bit, I was drunk on the wisdom for lack of a better term, and got a bit rabid. I apologized, and we went along with it.
In fact this is the first I've heard of it.I don't have the time or the patience to try to envoke what your accuse me of trying. :P
As far as your ending paragraph, Venture's disposition is almost hard wired against empathy from what I can gather from his brutal honesty. I don't believe it would even be possible for him to feel that way about anyone o.0
I thank you for your feedback on the matter however!

There's a cute icon next to it and by default it should be on the top of the lists

No this alternate reality already exists as far as Game Canon goes. It's designated as such by Portal Corp. The ghosts themselves are from THAT dimension, not ours o.o

SPOILERS
Mender's mentioning of the shvians is a call back to the wonderful issues in Ourbourus that you must deal with as a player.I was given a tip to make him sound a bit more..zany, as the real Mender is in your interactions with him. He's very confused at times and tends to ramble.
The ghosts attempted to go back in time or their period to STOP what was happening. Now, WE, the audience, know that this is impossible (most of us know this :P) since if you go back and stop the cause, you can't have been effected by it and it would not have caused you to go back in time to begin with. But, seeing the state of the world, I'm sure they weren't thinking clearly :P How? Time Portal generated by a Ourbours stone, a stone that shattered as they tried to concentrate to use it, sending a lot of them spiraling back in time into various eras, each with a section OF the stone o.o
This is left untold for later use and to add mystery, including, how did that stone even get there? o.0
The final mission ending is meant to give you the same feeling as most people got that saw "House of the Dead", you watch this entire film being a fan, you aren't understanding what it has to DO with the series, only to find out the hero of the movie turns out to be the bad guy of the first game, making it a prequel.Granted I couldn't go and name the characters name "$name" since the replacement text doens't work like that, though I think it would have been cool if I could. The one shot mission i refer to that Tina in PI sends you on sends you here. Now as presented it's unique to every player since it's meant to be THEM, however I was unable to do that. What i did instead was I made the lesson the important issue, and that whoever came across these remains would learn that absolute power may NOT be the key to peace. I may have failed in pushing that along as it seems.
The issue with the item is on my mind, I made it a trash can to be a bit easier. The chaos I hope to show in the third mission might be the issue all together since you weren't able to easily find these things. The map's build itself is also workingh against me, Thematically I can't change it until I figure out a better way. I apologize.
As far as you being the bad guy, in the end your not, if the ghosts would have succeeded, then yes the world MAY not have turned out that way, but then the exploring parties of our world would not find the destroyed world, and not have learned a lesson as intended by the mission in game canon. The underlying lesson I was trying to show was that even if unpleasentand horrid things happen, everything does happen for a reason, at least in this game :P The same fundemental applies to the "Kill Hitler" idea. Sure you could go back and kill him, may save alot of people, but you would drastically change history.
Check out Red Alert from Westwood studioes, it touches on this theory, Russia and America kept going at eac other until we had major problems, and Japan was left unchecked to grow into a power house that eventually conquers the globe.
I'm in the middle of payroll, so I'll take another swing when I get home :P
Thank you however!

[u]The Portal Bandits[u]
Comments: I seem to remember running this on test, or am I mistaken, I remember the fellow with the hat, Iron SamuraiHowever it's still as wonderful as I remember it, the custom critters aren't overboard and are rather well done visually
I haven't seen the final mapset used much, it was refreshing, though I'm hardly traveled. Nothing frustrating about this arc at all from my perspective!
Rating: Five Stars
I also hereby endorse this arc for anyone looking for a good time! o.ob -
[u]The Amulet of J'garra[u]
Comments: (Spoiler free version, cut from the feedback I sent)I was fully drawn into the plot, and I'm not too sharp on my magic related things
The last mission was a highlight, very few are able to pull off the situation presented with out it being silly or not general enough that ANYONE playing it is pulled into the reality. Well done ^_^ I enjoyed the final line, a nice button on the entire situation all things withstanding.

Mary Sue
As this page indicates there is much dispute over exactly what constitutes a Mary Sue. The Other Wiki has a page on Mary Sues as well which you may note is not entirely consonant with TVTropes. N.B. that since City is a comic book environment some traits that normally flag a character as a Mary Sue get a pass here. The obvious example is "the character has superpowers", which is perfectly normal for a City character. In fact, it would be more Sueish for the character not to have superpowers (or gadgets emulating them) and still manage to show up the superpowered opposition. A superpowered character in City would have to have powers that were excessive or exotic in some way to qualify for this particular Mary Sue trait.
[/ QUOTE ]
If I am to understand your final ruling on this, I need a further clarification. By Excessive and Exotic, would you qualify Statesman a May Sue? I was considering making a new toon to play today that was channeling psionic energy into their hands, using EM/SR. o.0 Would this be improper?
[ QUOTE ]
Simply including a character you play doesn't qualify as a Mary Sue or even necessarily bad writing in my book. Two of mine appear in "Chains of Blood" as victims of the Circle's plot. (As of the last edit, they don't even fight; they're depowered and wounded so they must retreat.) Likewise, while obnoxious characters that possess enough gravitas as to become dramatic black holes are certainly bad writing, they don't quite hit the pinnacle unless they're also obvious author inserts.
[/ QUOTE ]
If I were to add in a custom character of my friends or my own that was being held hostage, would that be considered improper by the set standards you propose then? o.0 I've been considering revamping a few things since reading over your teachings per say.

Thank you! o_o I'll get to work on balancing soon! Working on removing Knives and inserting sapperless malta in another arc!
EDIT: Some of those errors should have been updated already unless it didn't take last update! >< Sorry RG, what your playing is an rough draft it sounds like. Will resubmit after I reexamine the errors that may have occured!

I hereby endorse this arc! o.ob Very fun!

My prime concerns are 1033 and 140129 atm
the last being in need of fresh passes to see where my plot holes are, 1033 needs a standard test to see how well it's keeping up with the test of time.
2085 is sg related but it shouldn't detract too much, it's on the low of my list atm
I sent you an in game tell before you made dis hear thread :P In fact I give you an endorsement each time you used to promote it in the channels silly! It was late at night but still! :P Thats actually how i met you I had to figure out why you were talking like you had marbles in your mouth :P

I did! I endorsed it you silly nilly! Also, I vote we buy youse a new keyboard!

So in theory if I play your arcs two more times I can get ALL my arcs in this que right? :P
