I remember this kid had a ball thrown, no players around, not even the goal keeper who had been caught completely flat footed, all the kid had to do was to simply tap the ball in. But in his excitement, he decided to kick that ball as hard as he could, instead he overcompensated kicked to soon, and the ball simply rolled past him as he comically fell.

The 5% chance of a fumble is actually a bit reallistic and could provide a bit of comic relief for the other players of course.

Now I have complained in the past about the so called random number generator, which really turns hit and defense statistics to meaningless. I remember one night going with my Scrapper fully decked out running the increased perception/accuracy epic having a 95% chance to hit. I verified so by looking at the roll displays, to my great anxiety my hit percentage was more like 50%, angrily, I scrolled back up and checked my rolls, to my even greater anger I realized for the past 15 min all I have been rolling numbers between 90 and 99%, no rolls below 90%. It does not happen often to me, but I do get these mean streaks once a quearter perhaps, often when I see this happening to me, I finish the Tf and quit the game for the night. I also have seen mobs attacking me and hitting me with a very unfair consistency despite my capped out defense. So I check their rolls, and low and behold, they can't roll above a 10%! Another cause to finish up and quit the game for the night. I know this horrible statistics deviations does occur, but not often, I guess bad luck is just that: bad luck!

Improving the streakbreaker would go a long way to making sure these things don't happen, like ensuring you don't miss more than 1 out of 20 times (of course fixing the random number generator wouldn't be a bad idea either). If you're at 95% chance to hit you just shouldn't regularly miss two or three times in rapid succession, and unfortunately we often do. Same can be said of defense. My SR Scrapper regularly pops a purple and is well over 45% defense, yet will often just get hammered repeatedly by minions and LTs that never seem to miss.

This is stuff that has just never worked right and probably never will.

Dual wielding is a special case because the 2nd hand is designed to under perform. Same with Rogues, they are designed to miss alot. But these are exceptions, not the rule.

Hey man, I'm not going to argue with you. I can provide many instances of what I've described. It's very very common. Like I said, if none of it bothers you that's great. But don't act like it doesn't exist.

i think you seriously need to take a break. and since you mentioned WoW, go play that and fight even to +1/+2 higher level npc's. you will start noticing the misses there. then that will drive you crazy and you'll be whining about it and trying another game until missing or what not drives you crazy there.
Which is why I haven't played any appreciable amount in a long time. And sorry, unless you're playing a Rogue you gotta go at least +4/+5 before you start missing in WoW. And only in CoX can you get knocked around like a ping pong ball if you don't have KB protection. And get chain mezzed to death by minions. Or have a single LT-class critter debuff your tohit, defense, and/or resistances into the negatives. Or run out of endurance in the middle of a fight and be stuck with Brawl. Yes, what FUN! Which is why I hardly play anymore, and when I do it's only for brief periods of time.

And I play a decent amount of that other superhero game and have no complaints about the game mechanics. Funny that.

If none of this stuff bothers you, hey, that's great. But after 6 years my tolerance for it is pretty much gone.

Name one. I never miss in WoW. I never miss in CO. I never miss in STO. I never miss in Aion. I only miss in CoX, to the tune of 1 out of every 20 attacks, at BEST.

It's not just the accuracy problem that burns me out. It's the accuracy problem combined with the endurance problem combined with the knockback problem combined with the mez problem combined with the debuff problem. Other than that stuff the game is just peachy.

So Arcana, I was perusing your Scrapper secondary comparison, and it seems like it's in dire need of an update. Loaded question: what's the "best" secondary now? Is it still Regen? Or has Willpower or Shields taken the crown (my bet in on Willpower)?

It's one of the many extremely irritating quirks this game has. And while it, by itself, doesn't stop me from playing it definitely reduces the amount of time I am able to play before immense frustration sets in, meaning instead of playing regularly month after month I might play for a week and then not touch the game for 3-4 months.

Nearly every other MMO on the market has no "accuracy" component. And if they do you almost never miss unless you're fighting something much higher in level than you or is specifically designed to be difficult to hit.

CoX uses a triple-redundant limiting system, which honestly is completely unnecessary and only leads to player frustration. You only need 1 limiter, not 3.

I've always said this game could be really great if they just smoothed out the 6-year old rough spots that have plagued it since day 1. But it seems unlikely anything is ever going to change. So while other games are busy making their games as fun to play as possible this one grinds its heels in, buries its head in the sand, and insists there is nothing wrong.

SR has less build flexibility than other sets, sure (you can really only get away with skipping Elude, if you softcap), but it is by no means a poor performer. Softcapped defense to all vectors, the only set to achieve 95% defense debuff resistance, Confuse protection, a taunt aura in Evasion (Brutes only, unfortunately), in-set +recharge and slow resist, and scaling resists that work wonderfully with a Brute's higher HP. Not having a heal isn't at all a big deal if you carry a few greens around (basically combine anything that isn't an orange or red into a green and you're set) or are Dark Melee.

The only thing that's somewhat diminished the value of SR is Shields.
I wasn't taking IO potential into account. I was going solely by SO performance. I have a MA/SR Scrapper, and while she's fun to play she's kinda squishy. It's not possible to add Tough/Weave like I did with /EA cause there is no end recovery power to fuel the extra toggles. As it is she tends to be a bit end-heavy already.

And she's not even close to soft-capped defense with SOs and a few common IOs (IIRC, low 30s). But yeah, if you put in the effort to pick up a bunch of +def sets SR can be pretty mighty.
  10. So I've been playing around with a */EnA Brute at level 41 and I can confirm the basic set is crap. I dropped like a fly on +1/+3 missions (diff +1, # of critters +3). Any Brute should be able to easily handle such a mission without any trouble. This was with every power except Conserve Power, and all defense and resistances slotted up except Energy Cloak. I also had Combat Jumping for a smidgen of extra defense.

Then I went back and used what Mr Body described as a template. I dropped Overload and took Tough and Weave. Put 3 resistances in Tough and 2 defenses in Weave and Cloak (I ran out of slots). Unlike Mr Body's build I kept both the passives.

The difference is astounding. He went from dropping like a rock to bulldozing thru mobs. Mind you I frequently had to use inspirations, especially Lucks, for large difficult spawns. But considering I was using only white SOs I was pretty damned happy. Slotting in IOs, even if just for better %s instead of sets bonuses will only make things even better (though I still wouldn't mind some more defense to reduce the reliance on Lucks so much). Endurance management wasn't all that bad. Yeah, you burn thru it like a cheap ***** thru JLo perfume, but Energy Drain keeps you pretty good. The only time it falters is when you're facing single critters. But if that's the case you can click off Tough and Weave to save some juice.

I suspect things might get dicey when facing an EB or AV, as you get a lot less from Energy Drain when fighting one critter. The heal portion of it isn't great, but I have it 3 slotted for heal and with at least 3 critters you get a nice chunk of health. With 3 recharges it comes up every 33 seconds or so, which isn't bad.

Overall I would say I'm pretty happy. Is it the end-all-be-all of Brutes? Nah. But it was pretty fun to play, and a lot more active than Willpower.

Energy Cloak gives the same defense as Weave for slightly lesser end usage and its defense value doesn't suppress like Stealth. Speaking of the Fighting Pool....

Tough is a better choice than the passive, Dampening Field, as it gives more smashing/ lethal resist. Weave is a no-brainer also then. 2 more toggles you say? Don't forget you have Energy Drain to fuel your blue bar.

Energy Drain... Slot it for heal, recharge, end red, then end mod, in that order. Keep at least 2 or 3 foes around you for a full blue bar. Maxed for recharge and with Hasten, it can be up every 22 secs or so. Comparable to Healing Flames in recharge and possibly a better total HP heal depending on how many foes you have around you. What really hurts it is that the heal comes at the end of the end drain, end refill, and animation.

Energy Protection... To me, it was skippable. Since smashing/ lethal is the predominant damage type, I decided this was the flaw in my build but....

Overload... Tier 9 giving +def and a slight HP increase. If you are already nearly capped to all, is it necessary? I took it but at lvl 49 and I may respec out of it and possibly take Energy Protection.

Conserve power... Total crap. Energy Drain fulfills your needs for end recovery. If you don't want to take Stamina, then sure, take Conserve Power instead.

Anywho, these are my thoughts upon leveling an EA brute. Not too hard to softcap; not as easy as SR; easier and cheaper than Shields. The plus side to EA, you get an auto-hit self-heal/ recovery power built into the set unlike SR, Shield, and WP.
So what sets did you use to soft cap defense?

I've found that 2 is fine unless you're going up against EBs or AVs, and then not so much. A Longbow Ballista will knock you around like a ping pong ball with just 2.

Willpower is pretty close to great out of the box. You often don't need Health or Stamina, the mez protection comes early, you get all sorts of exotic resistances, and a nice balance of layered protection with very few holes (lack of debuff resistances for slows and end drain being the biggies, but a Winter's Gift can work here). Slotting can be a bit tricky, but IOs can help (you don't even need full sets, just the "more % in less slots" advantage, so it's cheap).

Yeah, I know you can slot KB IOs, I do in my Dark and Fire characters, but it's still a pain as 1.) they aren't cheap, and 2.) you need at least 3 of them for decent protection.

Sometimes I just want something that works great out of the box.

It *IS* boring, hence why I wanted to go with something else for a change. But every set I look at all I see are the glaring flaws that I know are going to annoy the hell outta me (all of which, besides Energy and Electric, I've already played and are very familiar with)

Dark Armor - no KB protection, VERY end heavy
Fiery Aura - no KB protection, mediocre resistances, very little exotic protection or debuff resistances
    Invulnerability - no build flexibility
Shield Defense - no self heal, very little build flexibility
Stone Armor - way too wonky for me
Super Reflexes - no build flexibility, no heal, and not a great performer either.

So I'm again left with Willpower. I do want to try Electric at some point, but it doesn't fit for the character. Was thinking of an Electric/Electric Stalker for that.
  15. It would be really nice if they improved the other sets up to Willpower level. What good is having them if none of them are any fun to play? If building a character is like having teeth pulled then something is wrong.
  16. Sigh... I guess it's back to Willpower.
  17. How is this set these days? Worth taking or too much of a pain in the bum? The numbers seem underwhelming and not a lot of wiggle room in power choices.

I haven't played EA since CoV was released so I thought I might give it try instead of rolling up yet another WP Brute.

Can Energy Drain be used instead of having to go Health/Stamina? I'm thinking not, but that's just a gut feeling. And what about Energy Cloak? Worth the cost for that piddly extra defense? Conserve Power seems like an easy skip due to the ridiculous recharge time. Can you successfully skip the passives, or is that just gonna leave you even more squishy?
  18. Website seems to be gone. Anyone know what happened? Or if someone else has taken over? The database was extremely useful.

Cause then you'd hear screaming from those that want a character that simply must have wings and a jetpack.

Too bad that boots aren't designed to work like that tho. You'd have to create an entirely new sub-category, which is probably more work than they're willing to do. The easier it is to accomplish the more likely it'll happen.

What would be great is if they restore the old thigh high boots, keeping the seam and leather texture, and then also leave the current thigh highs, but change it to a tights texture and no seam. This way we can have the best of both worlds.
