I ran the Punchdrunk farm many, many times using nothing but a tray full of purples to keep my Fire Brute softcapped on defense the whole time, making me "practically unkillable" for the entire mission. Is this an exploit? Should the devs now nerf lucks so this clearly aberrant behavior which allowed me to perform feats so miraculous that they simply must not be allowed to exist be snuffed from existence?

    Hmmm?

But why now after 6 years? I guess it could have been an oversight, something they just forgot to do years ago. But it just seems odd to do it now unless they have something cooking.

True, but still not an exploit.

Damn right. Why would they allow us to play any way we want? No other game does that, and if it does it's hardly a game. More like some kind of weird simulator where you can change anything you like to see what happens.
I've played plenty of MMOs over the last 6 years and none of them seem so focused on controlling player behavior like this one does. Yes, all MMOs change, and evolve, but CoX takes it to the extreme.

Goals like getting to 50 in one hour? Yeah that's difficult to accomplish on purpose for a good reason. Getting to 50 isn't difficult, though.
So how long is appropriate to get a character to 50? An hour? A day? A week? A month? What exactly is the precise benchmark? If I wanted to make a character specifically for purple farming and wanted to get them to level 50 as quickly as possible, how quickly is too quickly??? Is it rational to say, "oh, you did it in a week, that's ok" versus, "oh you did it in 3 days, well that's clearly too quickly". If my goal was to get to 50 so I could begin to collect rewards only available to level 50 characters, why should anyone care, and why the hell would anyone call it an exploit?

They removed the MA badges that people were farming to get. People complained about that too.
Yes, cause leaving them in clearly broke the game. Another example of dev batshittery. At some point I really wish they stopped trying to micromanage every little thing we do in the game and just be thankful that after 6 years there are still people playing it.

    Nobody's making CoH 2. Yet.
Well NCSoft has just trademarked the name. Seems unlikely they'd bother unless they had a plan.

What they are fixing here is exploits. Farming, as a whole is kind of hard to stamp out, and I would say its not something that should really be wiped out. Some people do validly enjoy it, and I, and the Devs too it seems, dont mind that so much. Its when something is exploitable, such as 1-50 in a few hours, that they have to take action, and have been doing so.

The sooner that people understand that, the better.
Still, this thread doesnt dissapoint, it seems.
Stop calling it an exploit. It's not. And exploit is when you take advantage of broken mechanic or bug. This is not the case here. The system was designed to allow allies to help you. This is not by mistake.

This is a nerf to curb what the devs deem to be undesirable behavior. It's more of them telling us that we can't play the game we pay for the way we want to, only the way they want us to.

They set up a situation that requires certain behavior to attain goals they have purposely made difficult to get, but then constantly nerf and nerf and nerf whenever we get creative in finding ways to quickly achieve those goals.

It's like hanging a carrot in front of a horse and chiding him for knocking the stick down and eating the carrot instead of blindly following it till he drops dead of starvation. If you don't want people to farm stop putting **** in the game that requires farming to get. 6 years of this never-ending cycle you'd think they'd be done with it by now. Well you'd be wrong. Some boneheaded dev mentality I guess you just can't break no matter how many years pass by.

Why bother with CoH 2 when you clearly haven't learned any lessons from 6 years of CoH 1?

    - Having to constantly retool their perfectly good arcs every time something breaks.
    - Having to constantly retool their perfectly good arcs every time something is changed to fix some exploit.
    - A horrible search engine that pretty much ensures most of our arcs will never be played.
    - A horrible rating system that gives too much weight to the "opinion" of anyone with three seconds to spare and the desire to click "Play" and click one star, thereby relegating something someone put a lot of effort into back to the depths of said horrible search engine, behind farm after farm and that arc some guy slapped together and got his friend to 5-star.
    - A reduced player base for said arcs that a lot of effort is put into because players increasingly have to choose between playing through something new, interesting, and well-written, and getting half-decent rewards.
Yup. That pretty much sums it up. At this point they should just shut the whole thing down and consider it an utter failure. They clearly spend way too much time datamining and policing it, time that would be better spent improving the game instead of finding ways to break it.

Till then Im really thankful they got around to hitting them hard with the nerf stick. Even better if they do the proposed idea of removing exp completly from AE in i17 like has been circulating in rumors for the past week or so.

The amount of doom comments in game is kind of comical now 'oh noes AE nerfed how canz we lvl now?' amidst the collection of high level noobs finally having to learn what slotting is to survive. Lets hope they finally venture out of the dark depths of AE into the actual game before it was a low level farmers paradise

(yes i do know people will probably still go back to BM and freak farms etc, but at least the level 1s will have a harder time now and might actually have to play the game to get past level 1)
Well since it's obvious you think AE is the root of all evil in the CoH universe why not just have the whole system removed? That'll really make the AE farmers rue the day they dare attempted to earn XP thru a system created by the game developers! What unmitigated GALL those farmers have! How DARE they?!?!?!

There aren't any places left to get away from it either, and naturally, the GM's do jack-**** about it.

These aren't new players either, they're long-time veterans moving on to bigger servers for the single purpose of being a nuissance and ruining the gameplay for others. And the fact that transfers are free right now has created a HUGE influx of these types of people. Its disgusting...

I'm not one to rant, but honestly, I'm at the point where I'm considering cancelling CoX because it has lost the quality control and customer service it once had who dealt with griefers harshly and quickly.
I hate it when immigrants come in droves to ruin my fun too. I have an idea, maybe we can build a big wall around Virtue to keep the "unsavory" types out? Cause we wouldn't want them taking away all our task force positions, clogging up the hospitals, and NEVER paying any influence!!! And you know what happens once they're here. They'll create new characters and call Virtue their home for good! Then we'll never be able to get rid of them. And I'm just sick and tired of seeing them all hanging around PI begging for farms. Damn day laborers

I hear Champions Online has a very low immigrant population. Maybe you could go there?
  9. I'd never heard of this before and went to check it out. But I see a Coralax Green Hybrid (not Red) who isn't drinking tea, it's writing on a clipboard

  11. I was expecting a ton of people in the tutorial... but I'm the only one here
  12. Run to the NCStore kiddies! It's up!

And it's SURELY going to be long before the July release date of GR, so...

Yes, it will be early access.
Pacific actually. But you got the time right

I guess they could be sticklers and say that page doesn't state the prepurchase will be available on the 2nd, only Dual Pistols. And the patch this morning did indeed put Dual Pistols into the game.

    Sooooo...

Yeah, I noticed that dual pistols is greyed out

I'm sure the store will open soon, probably by 9 AM PST.

How do you get 35% defense on a /Fire brute??
  20. Primary aside, how do you shore up the protection on /Fire? I guess you can add Tough, but is there any meaningful amount of defense you can get without purple IOs?

I guess maybe I'll see if I can find some good non-purple SS/Fire builds and see if I can adapt them.
  21. Wow, apparently 130 people are upset about my comment. I had no idea the entire populations of Justice, Liberty, Pinnacle, Victory, Guardian, Triumph, Champion, Infinity, and Protector would take time out of their day to adjust my rep.

Now if all of you were actually playing instead of dissing me maybe there wouldn't be any talk of merging servers.

Sorry you don't like the truth. Yeah, it hurts, I know.

  23. I have a Stone/Fire/Leviathan Brute, lvl 50, that's a blast to play. He's fairly well-slotted with IO sets, mostly for regen and recovery. But no purples.

I'm interested in doing an alt build for farming and I'm looking for some suggestions. As I don't have any purples, please don't suggest them for right now (hoping to pick up a bunch from the farming).

I know the FOTM is SS/Fire, but I'm not sure why Stone can't do everything SS can.

    Any ideas?

If anyone is interested I'll post the build I have now. Thanks!
