I'll pop in here so you guys have a new target.
The original Task Force Datamine took 3 months to finish. That was to go over 2 months worth of data.
We now have 18 months worth of data. We looked for a more effecient solution, but our estimates still come out at 2 years to datamine and get you your badges.

Shame on you from not learning from the first time!

Shame on him for his new costume!
I mean, jesus. Has anyone told him that it looks like he lost a fight with a group of spray paint wielding Outkasts?
[/ QUOTE ]
It's quite possible he was. I mean, he just stands around in Steel Canyon all day on his pedistal. He has to sleep sometime, right. And that's when the spray painting Outcasts strike! -

I thought the Surviving eight where the eight members of the Freedom Phalanx that survived...
Obviously more heroes in general survived... after all since the invasion started (or ended) in 2002, and many of our heroes are 20+ it's safe to assume that there where a lot of surviving heroes...
[/ QUOTE ]
Think of them as sort of being the A-listers. Lots of other heroes survived, but these eight are the most famous. -
From Manticore:

Maiden Justice was the mother of Miss Liberty and the grandmother of Ms. Liberty.

Thanks for the answers, Positron. That makes a lot more sense.
I suppose this means prestige won't be data farmed as well? -
*sob* Please don't make me do Quatermain's TF again. I beg of you! That's 12 hours I'll never get back. I just want a shiny little badge for it. Is that too much to ask? I don't care about any of the other badges, but please don't make me go through that torturous TF again!
-
[ QUOTE ]
Just because you're in SG mode doesn't mean you automatically get Prestige. You still have to do things.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, I wonder what this could be. I'd sort of hate for it to be doing missions while in SG mode, because that just hurts the level 50s. That'd mean they'd basically be stuck farming Shadow Shard missions for prestiges. -
[ QUOTE ]
So, as a wild pulled from the air example: for a level 20 character 200 INF = 1 Prestige, for a level 50, 2,000 INF = 1 Prestige. Bingo, level playing field, influence useful for something, everyone happy.
[/ QUOTE ]
Unfortunately, that wouldn't work. It'd just encourage a bunch of people to level up to whatever the lowest level you can buy prestige, transfer all their influence and rake in a ton of points. If they're going to allow this (which they hopefully will), they'll have to have a flat rate for it. -
Honestly, thinking on this some more, the costume thing wouldn't bother me too much if there were other ways to earn prestige points. For example, maybe you can earn some prestige for completing a task force. Each person that completes a TF gets a set amount of points for completing a TF, but if you get a bonus for each member of your TF that does it with you. For example, if I do it with a group of people not in my SG, I get 1500 prestige points, but I get a 10% bonus for each member of my SG that is in the TF with me.
Also, perhaps they could compromise and allow us to exchange influence for prestige points? I'm sure they could come up with a good conversion rate that would allow their new system to still be the easier way to get a base. Like 1000 influence = 1 prestige point, and being in SuperGroup mode earns you 200 prestige points per defeated mob, scaling up while you level. This would make it so level 20s could still get bases from SG mode, while level 50s could just use their influence. -
[ QUOTE ]
I can see Statesman's point about vehicles. I mean come on, everyone will ride in a "batmobile" if they do that. And with all the traffic and civilians and roads that make no sense of direction - it's kinda pointless. You won't even be able to pick up speed before you slam into a civilian - or cut a turn to close and - bam - you hit a stop sign. Unfun.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, you also have to consider the fact of how fast you can get across the zone as it is. Aside from IP, you can probably get across any zone in under 5 minutes depending on your travel power. This isn't like EverQuest where you need a mount to get around faster because everything is so spread out.
I wouldn't rule them out completely, however. We won't see them in Paragon City or the Rogue Isles, but perhaps some where down the line they'll add a space type expansion where we can have our own ships?
Of course, I think it'd be cool to just be able to design a vehicle to sit in your base. It'd sort of be like the tram. It'd be for looks, but functionally it'd allow you to warp to anywhere in the city. I know that they've said they plan to allow teleporters for this, but why not vehicles instead? -
Well, remember, beta just started last Wednesday and CoV won't be released for 2 months at the very least. It is completely possible that they'll see the feedback on this and change it.
-
I sort of hope this isn't the case. For one, it gives a huge leg up to people who've used a completely optional part of the game for the past 15 months. It also means that bases will be purchased with a time requirement rather than by actually playing the game. It also seems a little unfair that a SuperGroup that started the first week of release might not be able to get a base because they never use the SG mode while another SG that started only a few months ago and uses it all the time will.
Also, I spend a lot of time making my costumes look good. I'd hate to all the sudden have to use SG colors all the time so my SG can get a base.
Lastly, I think something like this could potentially hurt the servers. What would prevent me from, instead of logging out when I can't play, going into an instance and leaving the character in with SG colors during the night?
Hopefully this isn't the only way to earn prestige. -

Yes, if your computer can run CoH now, it will run CoV perfectly
[/ QUOTE ]
Unless, apparently, you're still on Windows 98 (2000/XP are the minimum requirements listed for CoV). Right now, I've got me some PROBLEMS with this. -_-
[/ QUOTE ]
They've said in the past that if you can play CoH, you'll be able to play CoV. I'm not sure why Win98 isn't listed as a minimum requirement (maybe an oversite), but I'm going by that. Maybe you could PM Alexa and ask her about it? -

[ QUOTE ]
So I am highly PC illiterate so I am going to ask this Barney style. If my PC runs CoH just fine, then will it be able to handle CoV? Just asking now this way I can prepare myself for if I need to go out and spend another 200 frikking dollars on my Vid Card just to get the game playing (like I had to when I got CoH). Thanks for you help.
[/ QUOTE ]
Just reposting it since no one gave an answer the first time I asked.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, if your computer can run CoH now, it will run CoV perfectly. You might not be able to run CoV all the graphics options turned up to the top, but the graphics won't get any worse, and nor will performance.
There are minimum and recommended specs for CoV listed on the FAQ page. Those system requirements are basically the same as City of Heroes'. -

Ok...so if I leave Chicago at 10:00 am, heading south at 50 mph, and CompUSA leaves Dallas, heading NE at 60 mph, at what point will my pre-order helmet cross my path, if ever?
[/ QUOTE ]
*head asplode*
[ QUOTE ]
Umm....sorry if I'm being really thick here, but CompUSA is one of the "Other US retailers", right? With the Wolf Spider helm?
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, any retailer that is not Best Buy, EBGames or GameStop gets the Wolf Spider War Helmet. This includes, but is not limited to, CompUSA, Frys, Amazon, etc. -
[ QUOTE ]
Not to keep beating the dead horse with a stick here, but just so my Saturday morning headache isn't clouding my understanding of what will happen... if you have pre-ordered ( meaning just putting a portion of the total cost down like 5-10 bucks as you mentioned earlier ) CoV, the first pre-order box with the pre-order disk & #'s will be released from the place you purchased it from at the time that Beta Testing is ready to start? Is that how it goes? At which point I would assume I complete payment and then on the day of release you would pick up the box with the GAME disk and #'s for your actual game play serial #'s. I've never really seen an explaination of how this would work until today. I've never been chosen for beta-anything before. I just need it explained to me as if I were a four-year old. I'm blonde if that helps explain why.
[/ QUOTE ]
Let's say you pay $10 to pre-order. The retailer then ships you the pre-order box which includes a registration code and the bonus CD. Then you input that code into your account and it'll activate that you have pre-ordered. When the point in beta comes where pre-orders are let in, you'll be able to log in based on having put in that code. That's also how the game will know which helm to give you, and that you can play in the head-start. When CoV is actually released, you can go down to your retailer and show them the reciept of the pre-order and they'll give you CoV for $40 ($10 off since you already paid that.) If you order online, it'll be charged to your credit card and the game will be shipped out.
Hope that helps! -

the segregation of man vs. woman really sucks.... SUCKS.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, no kidding. The one helmet I hate is the only one I could wear on my favourite character.
[/ QUOTE ]
That was pretty much the opinion my friend had when I told her. She saw it as really sucky that she only has one option for pre-ordering since she only plays female characters. I'm upset because I wanted that helm (Blood Widows) the most (and I mainly play male characters.) I really hope they decide to allow everyone to wear each helm.
Also, I really, really, really think Cryptic/NCSoft needs to make retailers aware of the gender limitations. A majority of the players do not come to these boards and might not find this post (or the pre-order page) and just go straight to EBGames or whereever. I'd really hate to think of the disappointment that'll occur when someone recieves their copy of CoV and they find out they can't even use the pre-order item.
[ QUOTE ]
I can't buy it from Gamestop because i'm from Canada!
[/ QUOTE ]
Have a friend in America that wants one of the other helms? Have him pre-order from Gamestop while you pre-order from EBGames (or where ever) and then you can swap the inbox registration codes between each other. No mailing fee required. -
[ QUOTE ]
any idea on why neither CompUSA nor Best Buy have updated their sites. Also is their a way to pre-order other than online?
[/ QUOTE ]
Probably nothing more than they're just slow. They might be waiting to actually have the pre-order boxes before they start letting people order them.
As far as other options, some retailers just put the pre-order boxes on the shelves to be sold. That's how I got my CoH one. I bought it for $10, and when CoH came out, I presented my receipt and got $10 off my CoH purchase. -
I know a lot of people won't agree, but I'm a little annoyed they say they're "exclusive" items when they're really not. Sure, they'll be exclusive for a couple months, but then everyone gets them. That sort of removes the exclusivity and prestige from these items. I still like the fact that I'm one of few with the Dash power, which signifies how long I've been with the game. I'd love something similar with CoV (although, I can completely understand players not wanting costume options to be exclusive.)
This brings up another question, however. If I buy CoV and add it to my CoH account, will my villains be able to use the Prestige Sprint powers from pre-order CoH?
[ QUOTE ]
Hmm - I cant tell which way some of those even fit lol. Maybe a few screenies with chars wearing them will come out before i have to buy.
[/ QUOTE ]
/agree
Alexa, could you please add some pictures of the helms being worn? -
PlasmaStream has some damn fine artwork in her sig!
-
Why does Countess Crey use psionic attacks? No where in the story arc (or really, anywhere else) is it mentioned that she has these powers. Is it a hidden secret of hers? Was it just added so she'd be a tough AV? (If that's the case, I'd suggest giving her some Crey technology to use instead.)
-
Why is Manticore so short in the game, but appears to be of normal height in the comics?
What is Manticore's relationship with Swan? -
[ QUOTE ]
For those who complain that the Archetypes who have the fewest sets were overlooked... the next planned powersets are melee based.
[/ QUOTE ]
Any Controller sets in the works? These sets really don't fall into that (although they do get the secondaries, but that's not what I mean), neither did the Kheldians. -
[ QUOTE ]
Well, Recluse being the Incarnate of Hera might explain the sister comment (ooh he's jealous!!) but then he'd probably be Lord Peacock or something (wasn't that one of Hera's symbols?).
[/ QUOTE ]
Ahaha! I hadn't thought of that. Lord Peacock would be a fun villain to fight! -
[ QUOTE ]
Thanks for the suggestions...we'll definitely revisit the Shard to add new content (badges, missions, etc.), reformat current TF's (a little less grindy), make the teleporters fit the zone better, etc.
[/ QUOTE ]
Hallelujah! -
[ QUOTE ]
Can SOMEONE please explain to me this knee-jerk "Recluse is Hades" response? Please, can SOMEONE point out where in the mythological source material Hades is depicted as the implacable foe of Zeus? What is that source of this gross error?
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, I'd be very disappointed if Recluse turned out to be the incarnate of Hades. Hades, aside from abducting Persephone, was not evil. It'd be mistakenly cliche for them to make Recluse be Hades, and judging by Jack's knowledge of the classics, that's likely not the case. Us classics folks get annoyed when people assume Hades/Pluto was evil just because the Christian Satan is.
As twisted as it might be, I'd love for Recluse to be an incarnate of Hera. She was such a [censored] in the Aenied (well, Juno was, but they're basically the same person.) I wouldn't mind smacking her around! And then, when people said, "That Statesman and Recluse fight like an old married couple!" they'd technically be right!
