  1. I'm a fan of telling over powered characters to prove it, usually in the arena.

Maybe it's odd of me but I expect people who claim IC to ***** slap Recluse, or one hit take down a giant monster to be able to prove it. Of course they so often can't.

And yes, the Joker is insane, but no, that wouldn't mean that he'd be treated by the judicial system like that. In most real-world jurisdictions, his madness wouldn't matter one whit-- it's the wrong kind of "insanity" for use as a legal defense. He could still be found guilty and sentenced to die, if the jurisdiction had the death penalty.

You know in one story, the Joker was sentenced to Death in Texas, when he got arrested there, but Batman proved his innocence and got him saved ¬_¬

    National security and all that.

Of course it would have to be Military lead thing, probably arranged by people with a Malta like view point, if not out right Malta agents.

After all the 'enemy' already has pre-cognitive super soldiers, the US is lagging behind.

It doesn't need to have some one all 'Mwahaha' evil behind it, just some one paranoid enough about the 'reds' (Or would that be the red and blacks?) to want to match their weapons.

But I'm going off on a slight tangent, and trying to make a workable plot line from a 'lol the government is teh evil!' one.

No, as a government plot, this is a total flop and is just to show that the op has a huge political axe to grind. Plus, it's godmodding the game world, which has caused HUGE rows in the past.

As a plot run by some random villains, it's fine... But no law like this would ever get anywhere, no matter how much the op wants to be supersmashingspecial.

    Or the tl;dr version.

    Mary Sue plot.
You haven't done the arc that explains where the Widows and Bane Spiders come from have you?

    Because Arachnos do exactly that.

Allowing the seizure of kids for experimentation is so blatantly 'wrong' that there's just no way you could sneak it on there .

For someone who's researched this thoroughly, you haven't really looked much at how a law is made.

A way it might be able to work would be to put it as some sort of act that's disguised as helping children, some thing that checks them for possible later health problems caused by mutation. You make this a sort of mandatory check, possibly by claiming it is child endangerment/abuse to not have these tests.

Meanwhile you put in another law that the 'state' can take charge of children whose parents are unable to medically care for them.

That assuming that the people behind the shady business are looking for particular things with the children, precognitive powers maybe like they do in the Rogue Islands?

Child is tested, they find what they are looking for, make up some sort of life saving care the kid will need, state takes over care of the kid. Of course if the family prove problematic they might just die in a house fire or something.

The key here would be stealth, and making it look as benign as possible to media.
  8. A major problem you'd be facing is that unlike the real world their would be a lot more scrutiny on public officials. While in the real world it might be possible to slip this type of legislation into other laws and so on, it won't really fly in a world where every bit of paper work is likely to be checked over twenty odd times.

I mean not counting the Fifth Column, Council and Circle of thorns trying to slip people into the government, you've got the whole Nemisis automaton thing.

To put it another way if it's so poorly covered up, that radio DJ's can discover it then it would of never gotten so far in the first place, it would of been rumbled by the same checks that prevent the canon groups from taking over from the top.

The second one I can totally see being a Preatoria law, it's also part of a really awesome audio book Playing for Keeps by Mur Lafferty, though that was more Crey than done by the government.

  10. Unless you get her essence back, I'd say resurrection wouldn't work, unless you want some sort of mindless/soulless zombie Tomb.
  11. F11

Tomb shrieks in fear as the void grenade explodes close to her, the purplish shell expands over, it remains for a full minute before fading as it does so Tomb returns. Her eyes have withered, becoming two sunken orbs of a coal black substance, tears of blood flow down her cheeks, she screams something in some nightmare language, before collapsing forwards to lay face down in the dirt, dead.

That's why they hide it in the small print, say in a bill to test children for genetic defects/inherited physical diseases. It's well known that most American senators/politicians don't actually read all the laws put before them.
  13. It's a possibility, assuming that the government officials in question are Crey stooges/Nemesis automatons/Council-5th Collum stooges.

Tomb is swayed slightly by the Priest’s words, she takes a hesitant half step towards him, her eyes filled with doubt, only for them to open wide in shock as the Priest knelt as the rifle shots echoed around the room.

Trembling in fear she stares at Nightwalker, swallowing and nodding her head.

“Get me off of this island, and I’ll work for you” she cast a guilty look at the Priest.

    D5

With a frightened bellow, the beast known as Hugo finally emerges from the mines bleeding profusely from various scrapes where the tightness of the mine shaft had forced him to leave fur and skin behind as he ran from the welling darkness.

He heads south, narrowly avoiding more of the tentacles as they burst upwards.

    D5 Lab

The glass orbs begin to pop and crack as the darkness washes over them, half the lab is already gone, reduced to dust and rust.
  15. It's not something that can be harmed, delayed yes, but not harmed, it's not after all alive.

Have you ever had a dream where you were falling? Or drowning?

That's what it is, a dream made real, a dream of the end of the universe. It's little more than a creeping process spreading through the island, it doesn't even have a mind.
  16. F11

“Well if I’d of felt this wanted when I was younger, I wouldn’t have grown up to be such a bad egg” Tomb says glibly, but her eyes were like that of a cornered animal.

Death was so not an option she wanted right now, her final rest wouldn’t be final or so restive. She glanced at the guards left behind by the Nighthunters, she doubted she’d go to prison; no she’d disappear and end up working for some government department, with her inventions hidden away for special forces work, probably no chance of time off for good behaviour either.

On the other hand she could trust the guy who appeared to have gone full Sith cosplay when designing his clothes, which would mean uncertain death or imprisonment, which was a step up from certain anyway.

“Well I guess my mother never actually did tell me not to trust strangers, do you have a plan for getting out of here?” she asks, eyeing the ferals, and Erez'Zul with uncertainty.

Tomb was sick, not in the mental or social sense of the word, nor in the early nineties use of the word, no Tomb was physically sick, several times. Being jerked around at high speeds had done nothing for her stomach, especially as she’d been able to see the tentacles of the Entrophic nightmare spouting up around the island.

Wiping her mouth on her sleeve she staggers towards the submarine, whether it would take her to freedom or incarceration she no longer cared, as long as she was off the island.

    Around the Island.

Spears of absolute darkness form, piercing the ground and rising up like a vast bamboo forest, they seem to swing towards anything organic rotting it away in an instant.
  19. The grenades take an area of existence, and dump it slap bang into the prison/realm of ancient Cthulu esque creatures of madness and destruction, who will now be showing interest in all the people they could see through the effects of the grenade, expect cultists and strange nightmares etc
  20. E4

Damaged by the bullets the grenade takes a few extra moments to explode, but when it does so. A ten foot in diameter sphere forms on the ground, a deep purplish colour and reflecting light in a rainbow bubble like sheen, as few seconds later it is gone, as is anything that was caught in the sphere a large crater gouged out of the floor.

Those with heightened senses, may of heard an odd voice as the sphere dissipated, or seen just the hint of writhing tentacles, those with magical senses would of felt the presence of something more ancient than the stars taking interest in those in the immediate area.
  21. E4

“Heeeyyyyy” Tomb wheezes “If you guys are going to get into some sorta meta-human fight, mind letting me go first, I’ve only got little legs it’s not like I’ll get far before you finish up.”

    She flashes Patsy a smile.

“I’d really like to be put down please and it would be a good idea if you did, because frankly I’m terrified enough to wet myself right now.”

    D5

“She’s at the plant you fool, though she will have run by now, this island iz doomed ve are all doomed!” the scientist splutters, he’s clearly angry, but smart enough to not try anything.

    -----
The ape climbs up into the flooded room wading his way through the water, occasionally bellowing as the amputated vampires attempt to sink their teeth into him.

    ----

    The darkness surges outwards.

    Across the island.

Tentacles of pitch blackness rise from the ground, they don’t smash upwards, the ground around them just becomes gray and dust like as rocks, metal and soil are turned to ash by then tentacles, towards the outer edges of the island they are few and far between, but they appear with increasing frequency the closer you get to D5.

When the tentacles brush stuff, it rusts, crumbles or rots away to dust in seconds…
  22. Given that Kheldians and Nictus have some sort of special method of communicating across outer space, I don't have a problem with Tech's character zoning in on Tomb, since she has outright said who she is.
  23. E4, below the plant...

The normal response would have been “No, I’m ******* Alice in Wonderland, can’t you see the imaginary numbers?”.

But this isn’t a normal situation.

“This isn’t a bag, it’s a dingy, and I’m intending to use it to get away from the island, some one will investigate why the island is gone sooner or later, just need to float until then.”

She tries to make her way to the elevator, though will continue her explanation if she’s stopped or followed.

“The Godslayer, it’s a nightmare made real. You see if you get enough psychics together, feed them enough drugs and psychotherapy you can cause them to have shared fears and nightmares, and if that fear is strong enough and the psychics powerful enough, you can bring it to existence in the waking world.”

“As for what it is exactly, it’s entropy in its final form, the eventual death of the universe, well a possible way for it to end. Darkness and cold, every half life ended, every metal rusted and every star cold and dead in the sky, stillness and decay throughout the cosmos. Luckily, it shouldn’t destroy much more than this island, which is why I’d really like to leave, I’d suggest you do the same.”

    D5

With an animalistic cry of fear, the Simi-ham ran towards the elevator, ripping it out and beginning to climb up the shaft towards the flooded lab.

From the pit tentacles of utter blackness begin to rise, drinking in light like a blackhole, everything they touch becomes dust, metal rusting away as if millennia has passed in an instant, one touch a light bulb and the lights throughout D5 shut out as it pulls all the energy out of the lighting circuit.

“You.. you bliztering IDIOT you have doomed us all, you CRETIN, you NINCOMPOOP!” the scientist rants in the dark, his features are barely illuminated by the glow from the monitors.

    E4 North

The door opens for Damsel, of course it immediately seals shut should she go through it, as the room beyond is filled with nanites and drugs to get the wrestler back into fighting condition, though nothing is stopping her from travelling any further.
    E4 East

With his incapacitation, the Jaguar mans room gives up its piece of the key, though the door it unlocks is no longer actually locked.

    E4 West

The frogman croaks, or at least is no longer conscious, the room revealing its part of the key, though the key isn’t really needed any more.
  24. E4 North
    (18)

    “As I thought!”

Several veins of a crystal like rock formed on the wrestler’s body, creating an earth based faraday cage, that diverts the lightning over his stony skin, stopping it from striking him directly and earthling it into the ground.

    E4 East
    (6)

The jaguar themed fighter begins to slow down as he’s caught in the field, bullet speed movements decaying till he is moving with a treacley slowness.

    E4 West
    (6)
The frog man appears on the walls as the water evaporates from his body, he is currently trying to fight his way free of the tentacles.

    E4 Central.

The purple field over the collum drops as with a ‘ping’ and elevator arrives, a young girl perhaps a tween at most steps out of it, she’s dragging a heavy bag with her, well it looks like a bag, but most bags don’t have day glow yellow tags to pull. She’s trembling and white with fear, looking around with wide scared eyes. She spots Patsy.

“Listen you, we have to get off this island, I’ll pay you if you help me but we have to get off this island soon, they woke it up! They woke up the god killer!”

    D5

Blasting up would reveal a room, much like the one where the elevator shaft had finished, massive fluid filled capsules, ten in all filled with a warm blue fluid, and each containing a man, woman or child. Though unlike the vampire capsules, these are less containers and more life support machines, computer screens near them with read outs of vital signs and brain wave patterns.

When the trap door is smashed open by the missiles there would be no immediate effect, the trap door is dark inside, unnaturally so, the light from the room should show something inside but doesn’t even manage to penetrate further than the broken lid, the edges of which are beginning to rust.
  25. Oh dear, oh dear, some one opened the trap door!
