People will continue to farm and PL regardless of what happens to AE. AE would continue to be a failure from a cost vs. benefit standpoint regardless of what happens to it. Unless AE receives a complete overhaul for its reward system, people will continue to use AE mostly for maximizing profit; this the nature of any human society, be it real or virtual.
The sooner people realize these, the sooner everyone can relax, the happier everyone will be, and the sooner we can go back to sitting back and watching developers play whack-a-mole with AE exploits (and by "exploits" I'm referring to the exclusive, distinct usage of the term; not farming, PLing, or any other term some people like to count as a subset of "exploiting" and "cheating").
There. The horse should be dead now. No? Someone check for a pulse. -
Quote:This is a game. People have fun the way they want to have fun. You, me, or anyone else are not in any position to judge them based on it, make assumptions and accusations, or "call for an action" as if this is some sort of conspiracy-infested government plot.Ok it seems I have the attention of a few note worthy individuals. Yes we have all ran into that special someone who gets the team killed. We take a quick look and see "oh? this is an AE baby"? All im trying to get at is that I have SEEN with my own eyes what AE can do to newer players.
I have heard hundreds of complaints thus far from my fellow players who are just plain sick and tired of running into these new AE 50s and getting smashed for it. By the way, it may seem whiney or moany or whatever, but its just not me who watches their team mates get trashed repeatedly do to a new AE pwrlvd 50 or there abouts. So just realize I am not alone in this guys and gals I'm "not" alone.
I wont bother posting any more I have said what I have had to say. Good day.
It's a video game. If you don't like AE-babies in your team, kick 'em and move on. Depending on your definition of "AE-baby", that would either happen often, or not-so-frequently. For me, I've personally not witnessed an "AE-baby" since the nerf to Rikti Comm Officer farms. -
Oh joy.
The horse isn't dead yet?! Seriously, guys? -
Quote:Eh. Still. If it was purely IC, I wouldn't count that off as them being unfriendly/rude/etc. Surely I wouldn't mind if I got someone joining my public RP. But not all my characters would randomly greet yours all friendly-like and invite you to a cup of warm tea, some delicious biscuits, and a debate over morality. RP is RP. Telling a character to "gtfo" is also RP, and the scene can even be amusing or fun to the participants if done properly.IC. GTFO is a bit of a paraphrase.
The two characters were talking about something like watching over people that needed help. Serious-ish, non-goofy stuff. I was on Lord Agonus at the time, in a black business suit and the white mask in my forum avatar. Aggie is also a serious-ish character.
I tried to get a conversation going about the various ways of dealing with the common man. The other two characters were having none of it. -
Here's my build. I logged into the game and copied it into Mid's for you.
My build is much cheaper comparatively, but it has some trade offs. I have limited budget for my builds, so I always take it into account.
Also, bear in mind that my build was influenced heavily by concept, otherwise I would have taken Force Mastery as my Epic pool. Instead I took Body Armor and Surveillance. So you could probably modify mine to make it stronger if you can take a better Epic like Force Mastery or Ice Mastery. Furthermore, I also took every single power from Dual Pistols "just 'cause". I find the set fun, and the animations make me giggle. So I took them for fun. Again, you can tweak that as well if you care more about performance than looks.

Quote:Energy Manipulation is a wonderful secondary. Don't get us wrong. It's just you've only taken these powers:Well I had thought the power boost with the build up was big advantage witht he 2ndary ammo types of the DP, this was my first DP, like the day we were able to prepurchase i made this toon and lvled him with some help from friends. Thats why I took energy with the DP. I mean I ran STF normal with this and it survived and did dmg , but that is the biggest thing i did with him.
Power Thrust
Build Up
Conserve Power
Power Boost
If you took Energy Manipulation purely for those, you could almost take any other secondary set and be a few times more productive. You could take Psychic Manipulation and enjoy the Psychic Shockwave/Hail of Bullets combo, along with Kinetic Thrust (Same as power Thrust) along with Psychic Drain (I would take Psychic Drain any day over Conserve Power).
Energy Manipulation's strength lies in massive Melee damage and stuns. You have to at the very least take Total Focus or Bone Smasher to really make Energy Manipulation shine.
Here's a really rough and quick build I came up with.

As I said, bear with me, cause it's a really quick build I made in 5 minutes. Note that I also six-slotted Build Up with Gaussian's (which contradicts my earlier statement). But I only did it because I had extra slots and I could use that 2.5%. Alternatively, you could drop Assault, get Tactics, and drop them in there.
With this build you'd have 27% Ranged Defense, and if Hasten is active, you'd have a 37% Heal every 7 seconds and 53% Heal every 20 seconds (thanks to the now-useful Power Boost). You also have 2 very strong melee attacks, one of which deals around 450 points of raw damage every 10 seconds or so (including animation time).
Last but not least, you're not spending as much influence. -
Quote:But for 15 seconds? All those DeBuffs are really small and they only prove effective when stacked on top of each other. You'd be much more effective by quickly stacking up the effects after one another than if you used up that time to cast Power Boost.Ok those are some things i didnt think about or didnt know. But I took the power boost to boost the 2ndary effects of the ammo types.
If you took Aid Self, however, that'd be a totally different story. Cause Power Boost + Aid Self is pretty much one of the best healing methods in the game.
I think I have deleted my Mid's Build for my Dual Pistols/Psi Blaster in the last format of my PC. Otherwise I would've shared.
She's got around ~25% (on average) Defense to Melee, Ranged, and AoE, she has Hover to stay out of Melee range, and she's just a PBAoE monster thanks to Psychic Shockwave and Hail of Bullets. And I did all that without THAT much inf. -
Personally, I think the build you posted is too expensive for too little reward.
For instance, there are some areas I'd consider "over kill":
- Six slotting Build Up with Gaussian's isn't really that worthwhile. You'd have a much better use of it if you put it into, say, Tactics. That way, the Chance for Build Up effect could roll in every 10 seconds (assuming it hits) instead of every 40 seconds.
- You don't really need to slot Personal Force Field with all those Defense enhancements. That power, on its own, is over soft cap. You can get the +5% Recharge bonus of it from a more useful set slotted into a power that actually needs it.
- Slotting Super Speed with two Run Speed Enhancements is also inefficient. If I remember currently, you can reach the Running Speed cap with just one.
- 3 Slotting Assault with Endurance Reduction in wasteful. You could take out 1 or 2 slots out of it.
Furthermore, it seems you're aiming for Defense, and yet it puzzles me that you missed Steadfast Protection: Resistance/+Def 3% in Tough. That's a free (almost) 3% Defense to all.
Last but not least, you seem to have taken Energy Secondary purely because of 3 powers. Seems a bit wasteful to me to take Energy Manipulation and skip out on all the delicious melee attacks. Also, you've taken Power Boost to use it on...what, exactly? If you took Aid Self, at least you had a reason to use that power. -
Efficiency != Farming != Powerleveling != Exploiting != Cheating
Those are all different (yet not 100% mutually exclusive) terms.
The only things that you could, potentially, get banned or warned for (depending on the magnitude of the context), are the latter two: Exploiting and Cheating.
Fighting off massive hordes of Rikti with my character and getting equally massive rewards for it just because I invested in time, skill, and game-money to have the ability to do it is neither cheating, nor exploiting. -
Your best bet is to not listen to people and explore yourself. If you want an RP "hotspot", chances are it wouldn't be what you'd enjoy, because as population in a community increases, so does the interest in popular activities favoured by majority (and popular activities favoured by majority in this context means sexual interactions, demons, vampires, and other stuff most people consider "cliche" and "uncreative").
So just go around, explore, try to meet friends and most importantly, try to find a community, such as a supergroup, that matches your specific ideals and standards. You'll have fun doing it too! I promise you it's out there, just look hard enough! -
Quote:And that's fine.I agree with most of what BrandX just posted.
There is a lot of RP that stretches and even breaks what I think is credible, even in a comic-book world of superheroes, and sometimes it does get exasperating.
Still, I think overall the best policy. for me, is to let such things slide, and quietly distance myself from RP that seems too far off canon, or over the top-ish. "You're Recluse's illegitimate son? Wow, really? Oh, excuse me, I see an old friend over at the other bar."
We all have different tastes. As long you're not rude, or make a scene out of it, who cares! You like your RP with strawberries, that other person likes theirs with chocolate! Mmmm chocolate... -
Quote:I don't think the issue is the RP. It's more about behaviour of the players, not their characters. I'm all too familiar with the whole "My character is a jerk, doesn't mean I am!" mentality, as I used to play such a character. It's not about that either. But yes, you're right. The general atmosphere of Pocket D as a virtual gathering spot for like-minded players depends heavily on the time of day. Sadly, a lot of people can only play there at the "bad hours", whatever your definition of "bad" is. For me, I think it becomes a lot more tolerable late at nights.Honestly, Pocket D seems to fluctuate on the time of day. It can be filled with idiots or filled with the most mature, amazing people ever. Generalizations of the D used to make me mad, because a lot of people say 'It's evil, and has bad RPers or sex in every corner' and I'm like 'what?' I had a large discussion with several people and, eventually, found out the reason. The day. The times I RP in the day are not the times MOST people that make these complaints about the RP, whether because they can't or refuse to. Virtue is a generally good community, it has some hate, as any society. But, depending on the Time of Day, it can mutate into a riverflow of lava or a light stream you can casually float down, just check out different times and see when you are comfortable with the people. All I can suggest.
Honestly though, I think part of the reason is that it's summer and schools are out. Just give it a few months. Take that as you wish! -
Quote:His premises and excuses are valid. His conclusions and reactions aren't. In my humble opinion.Lmao..but um.. for someone that admits to avoiding Pocket D for the same reasons the OP stated...isn't that pretty much saying you think he's right? So why not just say..he's right instead of... "As for whether or not the OP is "right or wrong", I don't know."? Just wondering, not tryng to start anything.
Insulting everyone and everything, flaming and ranting in the forums, and reacting with potential anger isn't the solution to the problem the OP and many others are experience. In fact, it's exactly what's fueling it. Jerks eventually get tired of being jerks if they realize no one takes them seriously as jerks. -
Quote:He does have a point. Many of the people did tell him to suck it up and move on. It seems the moderators didn't see much point in that thread besides a blunt rant, so it got deleted. Then the OP started this one.For the record, the OP has a point. Pocket D tends to be full of cliques...and these cliques can at times be quite rude to "outside" people. Then there are the times I've seen someone ask a question in broadcast and get slammed with rude and insulting commments. Now I'm not saying it happens all the time, but it does happen often enough to be noticeable.
Of course.. then there are those people who actually get mad at others for speaking OOC in the D...deny it all day..but I've seen it happen. These people tend to be quite rude. Lets not even bring up the rude and sometimes insulting comments I've seen in the forums. My point is this...most of the Virtue community can be quite nice most of the time...but on occassion it can also be full of ******** and *******. Getting defensive and calling the OP stupid, or saying other rude comments simply because you don't see what he's talking about, are part of what he's talking about, or just don't care...well that only adds fuel to the fire and further proves him right about Virtue.
I fully understand the idea of the internet being a place were alot of people go /just/ because they can be rude, insulting, whatever without consequences, but must /we/ do so? Ok.. so the guy ran into a few ********/*******..I know I have..tell the guy to suck it up and move on, but is there really a need to insult em, or tell him he's wrong? Especially since he's right about everything he said.
That's when we started taking the OP much less seriously.
As for whether or not the OP is "right or wrong", I don't know. All I know is that I've been avoiding Pocket D as of late for similar reasons, and I occasionally drop in with a bucket of popcorn just to watch the usual troll-fest in Pocket D broadcast. Sometimes I get THAT bored! -

Quote:Even then never take the word of a developer for fact. In a large-scale team project, especially software-related projects, unexpected things happen constantly. To be fair, he never promised anything. What he said was something along the lines of "that sounds like something you'd find in a Mutant booster pack". It sounded like one of his little hints that he slips us of what's coming, but in this case I guess it wasn't.
Upset though I may be, I need to be honest here. No such promises were ever made, and this could all be due to a (widespread) misunderstanding.
Lesson learned: If you think the devs are bringing you what you want, keep asking for it anyway. Don't trust "hints", only fully stated facts. -
Quote:It's either going live tomorrow, or they're pre-loading it tomorrow...or something else entirely. They said they're taking it down for maintenance...and that there won't be any patch notes...o.O But, it's still broken on test. And I hope they do some of the suggestions when they do make it go live.
Like seperating Organic Armor Face into seperate colors...one for the marks on the face, and one for the eyes.
A bikini bottom that matches up with Organic Armor.
Tight options for Bioluminence.
Ect...ect...
*shrug* I can hope it's all fixed and sent to live. xD -
Yay! Looks like it's going live tomorrow! I really can't wait!
-
Quote:Hehe. I wasn't really responding to you specifically. Sorry it came out that way.Well I did say...
[b]I have NO DOUBT, a varied assortment of concepts can be made with these new costume sets. I also have NO DOUBT, that what we'll be seeing is a A LOT OF DEMONS. :/[b]
That's not saying a lack of idea that can be done with the pieces. That's a comment towards what I expect to see alot of. Like when Demon Summoning came out, and the majority of toons I saw were black/red comboed demons.
The lack of fox tail comment was just that I've been hoping for it, and figured this was finally...FINALLY...it.And when it's released and I can put it on my main, I expect to see alot of new foxes.
As I said, I'd all be for more "animal parts". But I'm not gonna frown and sit in a corner hugging my knees just cause this set wasn't -exactly- what I wanted like some people have been expressing their disappointment in this thread and other ones. xD
Edit: Fixed a typo. -
Quote:Then come over to villain side!Bio Lumunious...hmmm...yeah...sadly...it (to me) feels like...more nekkid heroes!
In all seriousness though, the amount of pessimism and negativity in this thread is horrifying. People are complaining about how "limited" these costume options are as if any "animal parts" (that phrase is starting to sound a little dirty) they gave us WOULD OH-SO-BROADEN OUR COSTUME CREATION ABILITIES!
At least with these two pieces you can make a whole range of costumes if you're creative, as shown by screenshots in this very thread. What DIVERSE AND OH-SO-CREATIVE things could you make with a pack full of fox tails and dog heads? Foxes and dogs?
I'm not saying an animal pack would be bad. Just we shouldn't start spitting at everything that's NOT an animal-based set... -
Your last thread got deleted. That pretty much sums up the issue.
I'm curious. Who do you play? -
Quote:Indeed. And instead they're trying to blame it on the pack not being "Mutanty" enough.I think some people wanted this pack to be the Beasts costume pack more than a Mutation pack.
What I do love about this pack is that it covers so much with just two costume sets. You can make organic, tree-like mutants as some people made them. You can make scary overlord types, along with aliens and mutated lizards. You can make a complete Witchblade rip off (I know I will!) or a demonic hellspawn. You could use it to give glowing eyes to your existing characters, or use it to make characters similar to Alex Mercer from Prototype.
If the pack was "Super Booster V: Beasts", you could only make...beasts.
Is that really so hard for people to understand? That maximizing audience is the ultimate goal?
