    Edited to add:
My Kryptonite in real life is cold. I HATE the cold, it just saps my energy.

In game it depends on the toon. I generally hate anything that drops my toggles though.
... and in one fell swoop my post is obliterated. Maestro, you are my Krytpon... er Kryptonite! Only joshing with you, thanks for reminding me of what i knew, i should never post after drinking a bottle of wine!
  2. I'm a level 49 Crab... well more of a lobster really. I have 6 perma pets, lots of - def, - res, soft capped ranged def and i hover above anything that can hurt me. I wipe out large groups of mobs like a hot knife through butter. When i team, against AV's, i never bother looking at my green bar as there's no point, it doesn't move. I see a blue bolt of light from a minion Sapper and i eat as many greens as i can and run in the other direction like a six year old girl as fast as i can, because my def is gone, i'm on the ground and every hit is another death blow. Sappers are my Krypton. My /Elec Brute laughs at Sappers, Carnie bosses eat him alive.

This is no complaint! I love the adrenaline rush of occasionally being on the edge and finding my super toon becoming a mere mortal in the blink of an eye.

    What's your Krypton?
  3. So, i have my new Brute in the character creator all ready to go, a Claws/ DA... I've never played Claws before. I create a costume by accident that i realise i don't want hidden by all of DA's costume obscuring effects and before you know it, i've gone for SR instead.

I now have two sets i know nothing about. Can i have a little advice please to warn me about what to expect and what to build for? Soft capped positional defense i guess. Are they end hungry? Do i go for recharge? Do i need to get some Resist in there? Without a taunt aura, do i need taunt?

A lot of the builds out there are post 50 and that's a long way off, so i'm not looking for ultimate build advice, not yet anyway.

... and finally. Are they fun?

    Cheers

    Damage Cap

Funnily enough, after posting my question, i hit the cap today. A well placed FS and Fury bar and i was indeed at 675% in the combat window.

    Thanks for the info

    Badges

I'm a 6 year noob and ridiculously stupid with numbers, some of you must have come across my recent posts asking obvious but relevant questions to me. I've learnt more in the last 6 months than in the previous 6 years, reading the forums.

Talk to me about badges. I get the ones that will give me an Accolade power, who doesn't want more End or HP? Why i do i want an MoTF? Is it just completing a toon, or is there something so much more that i'm missing?

I wait in haste for your answers

    Damage Cap

Hi Brutes, title says it all, anyone know what a Brutes damage cap is? I've clocked over 520 with FS and as close to a full bar of Fury as i could get. I think it may be 600 but would like to know for sure.

    cheers
  7. I don't know about future Issues but i ran the Sister Psyche TF today and didn't receive any shards on it. Mentioned it to the group and it seemed to be across the board for us. Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings.

If i'm wrong, i'd be happy to hear it

Thanks for that, i was wondering about that myself. I'll put Doctored Wounds in Energize to free up one slot and put that in Weave and go for max recharge as i progress up the tiers.

    I appreciate your thoughts
  9. Ok, this has been bothering me for a week now. I was invited to join an MO Khan, i join and tell the team it's my first Khan TF, theres another Brute on the team, so i state that i will follow him and do what he does. I'm also the only non level 50 character on the TF. It all goes fine until the blaster dies and i realise that MO means no deaths. We finish the TF regardless.

Later in the day i'm invited to join another one, a lot of the same peeps in it too. I'm more confident now but still play with caution. We get to the final room, the leader says let' s do it but carefully. Stone armour tank jumps in and starts leading Reichs toward one of the other held AV's, i place Darkest Night on Reichs, bam he hits me, i die and a few jokes about my paper armour ensue, then a couple of comments as to how i should have let the tank take full aggro. I thought he had it, i certainly didn't wail on him straight away, not before others and the tank was leading him somewhere.

Did Darkest Night take the aggro off the tank? I'm a melee toon, was i just unfortunate that i got hit? I felt so responsible for letting the team down in the final hurdle but really didn't see what i did wrong or what i could have done differently.

It really shook my confidence and made me fear ever joining another MO TF.

    Any thoughts?
  10. Sorry if i'm repeating what's already been asked or is blatantly obvious, i've just unlocked my first Alpha and slotted it with a Spiritual. I have 3 recharge in hasten and 3 recharge in Energize, so theoretically i can remove a slot from each as the recharge is now compensated for by the Spiritual enhancement?

If i'm right, this is impressive and something i hadn't counted on. Being able to remove slots from powers and place them somewhere else isn't something i'd given any thought to.
  11. I like short names without too many numbers or *^!'s It's easier for people to invite me to teams, i hate typing long complicated names that you can sometimes get wrong by one symbol.

I've also been relatively lucky with name picks sometimes...

A Kinetic scrapper called Jet Stream (that was a recent one that surprised me)
    A troller called Twig.
A Thugs/ Thermal MM called Hot Daddy, his boys are his bois.
A small black formless Warshade called Tar Baby.
An Elec Brute called Fuzy, a bit like Suzy but with fuzes.
A Bots MM called Cyren, like Siren she calls forth her minions but they're cybernetic.
A non peace loving Peacebringer called Skin Ed, yes he looks just like a skin head should look!
A bone wielding War Mace Brute called Bone - Daddy.
An Archery Corruptor called Stoopid Cupid
A troller called Breth, i used to love saying to my SG when they asked for a different toon to help a situation, "ok, i'm outta Breth and ready now".
A Soldier of Arachnos called Rocket Lobster, i knew i wanted to go crab and wanted Rock Lobster (my favourite song) but that was gone and the name that was closest forced me into giving her rocket boots and thus creating a real concept character.

I always create the costume first (thanks Devs for allowing us to change colours of powers, this was HUGE) and then find a name that's appropriate, as my toon grows i find they grow into their name and they become concept characters and their concept will often dictate their power choices as opposed to me thinking what might be best, often with happy and startling results.

Ok, it's only a game but when you get really involved, i'm sure like a lot of you, your toons become friends and it's interesting to watch their progression.

    Happy gaming and naming
  12. Dammit, i forgot to mention how great your resistance to -end is. Learn to laugh at Sappers and Mu's, you no longer need to take them out first, this is huge post 40!
  13. Hi, i don't want to post my build as i'm not 50 yet but just wanted to offer a few insights. This is my favourite toon so far, great AoE, really good mitigation in different ways, some you wouldn't expect either.

Energize is all it's cracked up to be, slot it for recharge and health, Power sink is a game changer and keeps your blue bar full as well as sapping your foes and combined with Lightning field, which with fury is a decent damage dealer, you can keep their blue bar almost empty which means they aren't hitting you. Performance Shifter chance for end, works great in Lightning field and will replenish your blue bar.

Elec has no defense, so IO slot for defense as much as you can, i took Soul mastery for Darkest night which really cuts down on incoming damage, much as high defense does. The knockdown effect of your mace is really important, if they're not on their feet, they're not hitting you.

Fast recharge is really what you're aiming for, keep Energize and Power sink up as much as possible, your attacks will be up constantly and so the mobs will be on their backs and Sap the buggers into oblivion.

Don't be afraid to herd with this toon once your defense is half decent, let them attack you, get your fury bar up, hit Energize, a couple of AoE's , Power sink to replenish your blue, more AoE's and they will be dead and you will have a full bar of blue and green and ready to hit the next group.

I've personally found this a great soloing toon.

The only thing to bear in mind is it's a late bloomer, quite frustrating early on but i liked that as i always had something good to look forward to. Also the sound of Mace is great as they're hit, you'll feel quite brutish.

I really hope you enjoy your new Brute, i love mine.
  14. Hi, i'm just answering my own question to help those who may need the answer. I took School of Sharks and can hover directly above foes and fire it off at any height, so long as it's within the power's range. I haven't played around with range yet but it seems good and the animation is great! It's a slowish cast time, so bear that in mind.

Targeting flying foes is a different matter however, low flying Mu's are ok but anything much above the ground you get a message saying 'target is in the air' and won't fire.

I like the power, it's an immobilize with neg energy damage over time, has no kb protection but the animation is so interesting it makes up for it.

If you take it, i hope you enjoy it.

For the hover, not sure. I'll check and edit with an answer.

Edit: I can actually hover up a good ways and still use school of sharks. (near the roof of a 2 story warehouse, attacking things on the ground.) This is, of course, the brute version.
Now i'm torn, torn, torn. Thanks Bill for your info. School looks much cooler but i already have Web Grenade. I'm a SoA, so am guessing i have the Brute version. My Ranged defense is high, so i want to keep the creeps off my back but the only buggers who grief me are flyers and then again flyers are not off the ground either as the power suggest they should be.

I appreciate your time to answer mate.
  16. Hi all, just a quickie, Mako's patron power, School of sharks says you must be near the ground. My toon, for concept reasons, only flies, can i be near the ground and fire it off or do i have to be touching? The other option is Spirit shark, is it any good?

    thanks in advance

Hard to target another player with Blazing Arrow unless i'm in PVP and wanna knock their heads off! Love should definitely make your heart beat faster, i call this Accelerated Metabolism, so those should be flying about as fast as the arrows.
  18. There will be one new event, on Union at least. My character Stoopid Cupid will be hovering around in Atlas shooting Rain of Arrows at any passers by, if you get hit by an arrow, i have it on good authority that you WILL find true love in the coming year.

I strongly suggest all singletons keep an eye out for my winged messenger of love.
  19. Thank God you guys are hear, i was so bad at maths but thankfuly exelled at Ingish. I look at yur numbers and all i see is gobbliedeegook and im not ever gonna be able to comprehend what it is yur talking about but i do apreciate it.

    Gutting for IOs

    Hey y'all,

I have a level 35 toon that i got some expensive IO sets for and i've grown thoroughly bored with him, he's just too easy to play. I want to gut him and give his goodies to another toon, who's much more difficult and a hell of a lot more fun.

My question is, how do you gut for more than 10 IOs? I assume you have to respec and keep the ones you want and then mail them on but is it possible to do it for more than 10?

    thanks in advance

One question about merits...whats an easy way to get some? When i played the game many years ago i was a casual player in every sense. I never really payed attention to what any of it does. Are the merits only good for the exchange? or can you get good recipies for inventions somewhere? Do the vendors differ at all?

Also i was apart of a ghostyard run or something in sharkhead isles and i got a special merit for it. Whats to be done with these?

There prolly is a thread on all of this so feel free to just link me if its to much trouble.

I appreciate all the help, it makes it very welcoming and easy for returning players like me to pick it back up and stay with it.
I'm fairly new to normal merits and what's to be done with them myself and please, if anyone reads this and i give wrong information, feel free to educate me/ us.

Normal merits can be earned from story arcs, Strike Forces and Task Forces, you can also head to Ouroboros and do older task force arcs, something like the Freakshow Wars, which i think is between about 30 -34 takes about an hour or so, is soloable and gives maybe 40 merits (i really can't remember exactly) this is good if you have say, 12 merits from previous arcs and want to boost it up to 50 so you can add 20 million and buy yourself a Hero/ villain merit. I think the general consensus is that normal merits are not worth trading with a merit vendor for something, as hero/ villain merits can buy recipes worth so much more.

As far as i know, all merit vendors offer the same stuff, according to your level.

I'm only offering this information because until recently, like 2 months ago, i was so poor it was ridiculous, i asked how to earn inf and was given similar advice, since then one of my characters has earned well over 2 billion and i've IO'd him out in ways i never thought possible.

One word of advice, invest time and inf to make inf. If you can be bothered crafting a recipe, if it's rare, chances are someone won't be bothered to invest the time and will pay for it, be patient for a few days, eventually someone will pay so long as you stay within a guide price. Don't be greedy, don't undersell and soon you'll be rolling in it.

thanks a bunch for the tips to guys
Hey, i just wanted to add a couple of things. You can do 5 tips a day, after 10 tip missions you get your morality mission which should give you a hero/ villain merit, provided you're a hero or villain confirming that status. Rogues and Vigilantes don't get hero/ villain merits. You also need to be a hero or villain to enter either Fort Trident or the Crucible to exchange your merits. You can also exchange 50 regular merits and 20 mill inf for a hero/ villain merit but you can only do this once a day. With 2 hero/ villain merits you can buy a rare recipe, Luck of the gambler global recharge sells for between about 150 mill and 300 mill and you can also set the slider to decide at what level you buy the recipe, check the market before you buy to see what's selling the highest and it's generally worth crafting the recipe.

This is an extremely effective way of making inf in a relatively short time without farming and the tip missions are generally pretty good. Bronze rolls with AE tickets is the other way.

good luck with it and welcome back to the game
