What do people mean when they say better graphics?

You mean that style like DCUO and CO use? That style I can't really stand?

Do you mean like that Skyrim game inwhich again, I don't care for?

While CoH can use a bit of improvement in the slider areas, I like that CoH lets me make a character that I can decide the sliders on, and looks like a comic book superhero, instead of a cartoon.

The Statesman was calm, controlled and coordinated. He acted like a hero, like the hero he SHOULD BE! I was amazed at that, genuinely. Once upon a time, I asked for ideals in this game, and in his final moments, the Statesman does act like one. I find that commendable.

The thing, though, is I'm not sure I can follow his logic all the way through, even with your explanation. He flew away so he wouldn't murder somebody, I get that. But once he cooled off, why NOT call the team and say "Hey, folks, I'm in Europe. I picked up Darrin's trail. Just thought you should know I'm not dead yet." Even if the guy felt like he didn't need any backup - and with his power, that's understandable - why NOT fill your team in on your investigation and ask them if they haven't, by any chance, uncovered evidence that Darrin Wade knows how him? You know, get all the information you can before you confront the guy who's been taunting you.

What I'm saying is it seems like the Statesman is being pulled in two different directions with this arc. He's heartbroken and irresponsible, but then at the same time, he's really not. I can see him being either one or the other intermittently, but he can't be both at the same time, and at the time when he's NOT heartbroken, they why is he still acting distant? I'm not even talking about issuing an apology or calling for backup. Just pick up a phone and go "Hi, I'm in Italy about to attack Wade. Tell me everything you've learned about him so I know what to expect."

It makes sense for the Statesman to not call for info or backup mostly if his judgement is compromise, which it really isn't right at the end, is what I'm saying.

I have one of those, but it only helps with simple NPC dialogues where I can infer its context just from the text. However, because NPC chatter often comes out in a jumbled order AND in that particular fight where each comment corresponds to what happened in the actual battle, it's just impossible to follow any of it. Like I said - that's nine characters, each of which says about five or six lines of text, all of which get recorded out of order in my NPC Dialogue tab, and it's just a monumental chore to read. I mean, I can read the text, but I can't understand it and I certainly can't appreciate the wit behind it when combat is long since over.

It seems to me like whoever's writing the NPC speech bubbles and captions is doing so as if the game has live actor voice-over so you can absorb the words without having to take time away from fighting. Thing is, the game DOESN'T have voice-over narration, and someone of limited cognition like me can either fight OR read, so anything that is said in a fight, I'll probably miss, or if I try to read it, I'll probably die. If it's just one speech bubble, I can manage, but if there are multiple of them coming from multiple sources, it's just overwhelming.

The funny thing is that it's significantly harder for me to just read the frikkin' text than it is to beat the people who are saying. And that just isn't right.

OK, I admit. This had me laughing out loud

It's funny, because it's true. Ouroboros, the Midnight Club, Vanguard, they're all accepting genuine villains in their ranks. And I don't mean anti-heroes, I mean player villains from red-side. Not only that, but this drive to find the middle point between heroes and villains, rather than providing an experience that appeals to both, just ends up providing an experience that appeals to neither.

See, it can't be all bad because then heroes would refuse to do it, so content has to be hero-centric. But it can't be all good because villains would feel out of place, so all the contacts are largely heroic, but they're complete ******** about it. Levantera, for instance, spends half her time telling you you're cooperating with villains and the other half acting like a villain trapped in a hero's storyline. Similarly, we have Mender Tesseract, a complete and utter *****, in an organisation our heroes are supposed to be working with. Feh!

So, yeah, having a villain in your world-saving super team does seem to make sense when you put it like that.
I don't know Sam. Heroes of Statesman's power level don't tend to call for backup.and they don't tend to radio their plans. At least, that's how it's seemed to be in most comics/cartoons with the Superman types.

Even if they belong to a team.

With great power comes geater ego.

I don't agree with this one. What I think needs to be done is just offer ways for defense sets to beef up the resists.

It's compairing SR to other sets and IOs.

I was hoping they'd do something with the AIOs for resistance, but sadly they didnt.

As for any buffs I could see coming to Scrappers, it would be a normallizing of their crits being the same for all enemies. Other than that, perfect as is.

Nope. They still have their own styles. And personally, I hope they never go the realistic route. I've read comics where the artist went the realistic body route, and every single one of them I considered some of the worst art ever.
  5. Now see. They thought they'd make a comic get the rights back after a year, and then what?

Yup, that's right, they would of printed new Watchmen stories. DC is doing what Alan Moore would of done if he got the rights back like he expected.

So Alan Moore and die hard fans of Watchmen, who say "Perfectly self-contained story that doesn't need more" are being silly. More stories would of been created. This was Alan Moore trying to get one for creator rights, likely get DC comics to get their creation out there, so they could then use that fanbase to keep making money on new Watchmen comics.

DC kept printing it, thusly keeping the rights to the Watchmen. Alan Moore urshed in a new day for artists. DC comics urshered in a new day for comics with graphic novels.

DC is now doing what they likely wanted to do from the start but worried about some sort of fan backlash.

Funny thing is, someone has to be buying those graphic novels to make it worthwhile to keep printing it.
  6. I am for it!

I say make a new accolade that grants another bonus to HP/END if you complete the current iTrials that aren't Baf/Lam
  7. I really don't see what the big deal is. DC owns the right to Watchmen, they can do what they want with it.

If done right, it'll be a big hit. If done right, there will still be people who complain about it

A man influenced by these sources who treats women in a certain way as a result of this influence *is* being sexist.

I think you're right and the definition does need to be revisted more often - people (including me) associate it with being similar to racism: a person who writes racist propaganda is a racist, a person who reads it might not be, a person who is influenced by it is.

When I was growing up and collecting comics books both my sister and mother found the way women were drawn in comics as 'childish' and 'silly' over 'insulting', so I personally have always assumed that's the default position of most women (as perception is heavily influenced by familiarity). As a result I, too, consider the way women are drawn in comics to be 'silly' over 'sexy'. It's the way they're often written or the situations they're often subjected to that I consider 'sexist'.

At this point, I can all but guarantee that in just a few paragraphs you'e put more thought into said thesis than the guy who parroted it for his article (it's not his thesis - writers and stand up comedians have been joking about it for years).
When you should of been asking them, "What do you think of the males being drawn?"

That aside, true story here, if they drew comics to be like real life, the comics wouldn't be selling as much as they do now.

For one it's hard enough to get people to overlook comics as anything but for children. It's no different than cartoons. Nevermind that when cartoons came out, adults watched them all the time.

A good experiement, make a superhero book where the heroes and villains in it are drawn as out of shape and patrolling the streets. See how well it sells

As Tony Daniel said when ask why you don't see more ugly characters in comics "They're harder to draw."

They could combine fast healing and the recovery into one power to make room.
No thank you. I'd rather it not have a per enemy power added to it.

    Level 16 - Evasion
    Level 20 - Lucky
    Level 28 - Agile
    Level 35 - Quickness
    Level 38 - Elude

Putting it bluntly, having a total AoE hole in a set that focuses purely on positional defences is daft and annoying in equal measure, given that AoE covers not just ranged AoE but melee as well, the supposed focus of a Scrapper.

Brutes get their Evasion at level 20. Tanks get theirs at 12, for heaven sakes. Yes, they have defence as their primary, and it has a taunt aura baked in, but what possible logic dictates it equal that Scrappers and Stalkers have to wait 34 levels before they get actual AoE protection? Stalkers at least have hide, and Lucky is baked into their version of Evasion. Scrappers get up to a measly 7% at level 28, before finally getting Evasion at 35.

Given that defences have changed a lot since their creation, and that currently everything SR apparently does 'well' looks to be overshadowed by pretty much every other set (WP; has high defences, regen and resistances. Shield; comparative defences, better offence. Invulnerability, even, can get massive defences with some IO slotting, although admittedly thats not a base layer to work off)

So, would it really be a bad thing to give SR it's main defensive powers at a more sensible level?
    Just my 2 inf.
While I'm for rearranging SR's powers to match Tanker/Brutes order.

but what possible logic dictates it equal that Scrappers and Stalkers have to wait 34 levels before they get actual AoE protection?

Hence why it was changed for Brutes and Tankers when it was ported. Let's not forget it was a different game before then, and while still suckie, was just how it was. Now it's a matter of them not rearranging the order of powers easily.

However, I'm not sure I care for the idea of Quickness at lvl 35. And I'm sure this is one of the reasons they haven't rearranged the set on Scrappers. Because there are possibly players out there who want Quickness at lvl 20.

Guys writing those comics just envision a super heroine based off the Media and what sells. Everyone knows that sex truly does sell, especially to the younger crowds. Why not make a beautiful woman, well to put it nicely, sexy? I just don't see why it should be called sexist when aquaman swims around in biker shorts or some type of Chasity belt only. That character, and others, like Conan, were drawn by men. Does that make the creator homosexual? Does that make him wrong? Why not if he isn't? Heroes have always been seen as spandex, and cleavage. Not business suits (in battle), and carrying a briefcase of arrest warrants for villains. Meh~eh.
Exactly! Style first! Comics are about being pleasing to the eye! Seeing a bunch of heroes and villains fighting it out in business suits is not my idea of fun art.

  18. Here's why they consider it sexist.

It was created by a man. If the outfits where created by a woman artist, they wouldn't call them sexist.

As for PowerGirl's outfit, it's not like it was the first outfit in history to show cleavage. And she wasn't the first woman with bigger than average assets to show them off either.

In other words, it's basically a persons/group way of complaining about something that means nothing other than "Do I find this entertaining?"
  19. So much hate for a person who didn't even say he wouldn't accept anyone else, just gave a list of what he'd prefere.

Either drop the retcon and go with physical appearance (13/14 in Faultline, 18/19 "now"), or rewrite the character to act her age.
    It's not a retcon.

She was 14/15 years old when CoH came out, and they aged her every year since. It's another of those wonky CoH Timeline...there's mission timeline and there's real time line.

I'd agree. You get the 15-20% (I forget what it is) +DMG on the attack, and also get the added Smashing (since Stalkers only have Form of Body).

With the Stalker IO set or just the Hide IO in the attack used before SS, you also get more chances to crit with SS.

If not that, then turn Thunder Kick into Dragon's Tail, and either let them have it at lvl 1, or move Crane Kick to level 1 and put DT into CK's current spot.

    3. You can't reliably build Focus with attacks that have recharge less than 8s. I've tested this in beta. This means you don't really need to push Assassin Strike's recharge that low because you may not get 3 stacks. Missing an attack also doesn't give Focus.
No, the 184.18 does not include the exra damage.
