Using an example cited towards the beginning of the thread, I don't want to see a bunch of characters running around with Swords of Omens, sporting Target t-shirts, drinking Coca-Cola, with their pet Sony robot following them, etc.

We are constantly bombarded with ads 24x7. I like that Paragon City is a reprieve away from it. I don't mind so much ads for their own products, or even a logo or two on the home screen, but the last thing I want is to be reminded of everyone trying to sell everything while actually in the game.

And yes, I'm aware of the in-game advertising that they toyed around with a while back. It wasn't so bad because it was always optional.
Maybe it's just a Virtue thing, but if you wouldn't care for those advertising Swords of Omens, Target T-shirts, drinking Coca-Cola or walking around displaying a Sony Robot, how do you feel about all those people advertising the fetish gear?

It's a bummer that they killed Peter, because USM was really the only good Ultimate comic outside of a few isolated UFF and the brilliant Galactus storyline. But on the other hand, the line has become so stupid that it needed a reboot. And what better way to signal that everything is up for grabs than by killing off the star?
While I'm sure Lou Dobbs' probably had an overreacting rant, I find Jon Stewarts statement to be pretty stupid as well.

    "And still fictional"

    Well duh.

So obviously because it's fiction people should be okay with every and all changes made to the fictional media they care to partake in.

And as for mez protection, there's Mind Over Body and Force of Nature. The other shields don't, afaik, provide mez protection. Please do post the ones that do and I have missed though - it'd be interesting to see which powers provide mez protection for the 'squishy' classes.

And to further my -def point, it's true that Katana has a high DPS which can overcome its lower -def value. Most of the time I'm downing things quicker with my Scrapper using attacks than my Rad Blast Defender though.
I guess versus high HP bosses (especially Titans) the DPS kicks in and the -def is equal or greater than a Defender's (who may well be doing other non-damage things like debuffing).
Rad Blasters and Corruptors may have a different experience but I don't have either of them.

Also, I believe Azure mentioned that Melee characters don't have ranged until Ancillary/Patron. Claws, Kinetic Melee and Spines do have ranged powers. And technically Electric Melee and Shield Defense have a ranged AoE. Some even have soft controls (Fear, knockdown ) and others even have immobs and holds (Dark Melee, Martial Arts, Energy Melee) not necessarily good ones, depending on AT).
Since when has Force of Nature granted any mez protection? Last I knew it never has granted mez protection (except on initial testing).
  4. Gonna have to agree, it'd be a bit broken. Not just from a PvP stand point, but from a PvE stand point.

See all those things people do now, like solo the ITF, solo GMs, solo 4/8 content...now imagine the ease of things if every power was six slotted!

Now that said, I don't think it would be overpowered, if they allowed a one time buy of 2-6 extra slots per character, great way to either enhance a charcter or slot those Patron/Anicillary Powers you took between level 41 and 49

[Click Here] to view ad to recieve free in game item.

..and one didn't have to see any ad unless they clicked the link, I'd see no problem with it.

If people don't like it, they just don't have to click the link.

Heh...I figured people wouldn't like the idea of it. I realize how good CP is. I just almost never use it, so for ME Superior Conditioning would be more better, as I wouldn't notice the performance hit.

Though I would enjoy making the first four powers tier 1, and the 5th power tier 2. I'd actually take Melt Armor on my Blaze Mastery Scrappers if this was the case. Is it a great power? No. But it looks pretty, and I'd prefere it over Char on some characters basically for concept/flashiness.

I'm surprised they didn't go with a clone as the new Spider-Man. In fact, I would of prefered to see Spider-Woman #1, with female Parker taking the lead of main Spider Hero.

Patron Arcs are the Patrons teaching the chaarcter/or giving them access to the power. APPs are usually tied to the characters in some way.

Now, you as the player may think, "Well my Night Widow has learned to create fireballs" but according to the Epic Storyline they're a part of, they can't.

What's so hard to accept about that?

Mind you, I have no worries about it myself. If they got them, sure great. They don't? No worries to me.

But I can use that same logic and make it work for them not having them. As it's how their EPIC Storyline exists right now.

...we see that Battle Maiden hails from the same place as Valkyries spear. Battle Maiden's minions have a very Viking like aesthetic to them. Therefore it is logical to assume that Valkyries name wasn't some arbitrary "because-it was-available" choice, rather it was the result of a culture highly influenced by Norse myth.
Or a culture that is influenced by ancient vikings, rather than actual Norse myth. Lots of what ifs.

Vikings on War Earth's past, went out and conquered, and the Viking lifestyle continued to live on till modern day on War Earth, no nessasarily the Norse Myths.

I'd be pretty surprised if you found any aura from the origin pack that had been used in a comic book before.

Are you under the impression that I was claiming that a Zener Card aura is a classic comic book look or something? I'm not. It was just an idea that popped into my head that, if I saw it, would suggest ESP or clairvoyance and which could also be easily adapted from an existing game element. Clearly, your mileage may vary.

If you are seeing my suggestion as some sort of assertion about comic books then I can clear that up - it is nothing of the sort. Comic book psychics are still just as murky as you originally suggested. My suggestion was aimed at a way of clearing up the murk in City of Heroes. It had nothing to do with comic books or any particular psychic/psionic comic book character. In fact, in a comic book world where psychics, psionics, espers and assorted other mentalists are an established fact of every day life, it seems unlikely that something like Zener cards would ever have been invented in the first place. There'd be no need for them. It's hardly surprising that it would be difficult or impossible to name a comic book character that utilized them.

Heck, if we were going to stick to comic book elements then "psychic" characters in City of Heroes probably ought to have radiating circles coming out of their heads or something since THAT is a pretty common comic book representation of projected psychic abilities.

Or maybe just give them an emote like this one: ;-)

    *EDIT*

Don't get too hung up on comic books. They're just one medium out of many that encompasses the superhero genre. Commando Cody was on the cinema screen decades before The Rocketeer ever was drawn, inked, and colored. The Shadow appeared in pulp novels and radio dramas before he ever graced a comic. Likewise, the Green Hornet and Doc Savage and a host of others.

Hercules is one of the earliest examples we have a of SuperHero, even though the Greeks and Romans wouldn't have thought of him in the way we mean it in modern Western culture. He served a substantially similar purpose in their culture, though, that Superman serves in ours.

Maybe all psychics should wear togas and olive or laurel crowns? Maybe all psychics should dress as Gypsy fortune tellers? I'm not sure how illustrating "psychic" in City of Heroes has anything directly to do with comic books, any more than it has to do directly with film, books, or ancient mythology.

Heck, this guy would count as a Tech Hero by most City of Heroes standards and he knows all about Zener cards:

;-) He probably has appeared in comics and he's certainly appeared in a number of movies, cartoons, and video games. Film is his defining medium but it doesn't make Peter Venkman any less of a superhero for being a film-based hero instead of a comic book hero. City of Heroes is a super hero game first and foremost; not a comic book simulator. The existence or non-existence of some element in comic books is largely irrelevant to the question of whether that element ought to exist in the game or not.
My point was, she doesn't need an outfit that just screams "I'm a psychic" to be a psychic hero as psychic heroes have no "psychic look" they look like all the other heroes out there.

The end result is people would have access to 8 pools. 4 lore related or 4 easier non-lore related that are more common powers.
    Ummm...that's wrong.

Villain ATs get access to APPs no matter what alignment they are.

Start on redside, hit level 41 on rediside with never leaving redside, you get Blaze Mastery and all the other APPs on that Stalker!

Same with any other redside ATs.

But don't put the building in Atlas, it has enough to deal with.

On another note, if this happens, there has to be a villain side to Ancillary Power Pools.
There is villain side Ancilary Pools. They arrived with GR.

To just pick and choose from those wouldn't be good enough, so I propose something different. How about earning the favour of entire groups? To this effect, I offer the following "Patron Groups:"

    The Freedom Phalanx
    The Vindicators
    Hero Corps
    Vanguard
    Midnight Club

I'm not sure what any of these groups would offer in terms of powers, I just feel that we have enough entire factions to make this work.
If they were to do it just for parity's sake, how about they get parity on both sides first.

Also, before hero patrons, how about they finish with fleshing out the Epic Pools first too. You know, so my Cold/Ice Defender can have Arctic Mastery.

And after all that, they could do it as such...

You enter Fort Trident, you talk to one of the Freedom Phalanx members, and they offer to take you under their wing as their sidekick.

    You say yes.

You get a series of missions where you have to keep your mentor alive as you battle hordes of their chosen enemies (ie...Crey if you chose Synapse).

Then when you complete the arc, taking down the huge AV at the end, and if your mentor still lives then you get...

"Congradulations ona job well down. We will now make it official with the city registry. You are one of my many sidekicks!"

Then at city hall you can pull up a list that shows all the heroes who have completed the arc, and who they chose, and it shows their name under the list of Freedom Phalanx members names.

Then not only that, they get a special title. Over their Title/Name/Selected Badge, they get the special title of "Synapse's Sidekick" (or whoever they chose of course) forever etched over their character as a badge of honor of completing the story arc.

Now of course, no matter who you choose, you can switch between the Hero Patron Pools, but you only get to select one Hero Patron to be sidekicked too.

Back Alley Brawler: Give passive body enhancing style powers.

    Positron: Some Radiation theme set.

    Synapse: +Spd, Electrical Attack/Control abilities

Sister Psyche: Team Buffs/Mez Protection all depending on what AT you are.

Citadel: Stuff like Surveillance, Targeting Drone...ect

Manticore: Better Weapon Mastery! Bows for Melee, Sword for Squishies, Angst Buffs for Blasters/Doms (Angst buffs = 1 min major buff to self after taking a 30 second penalty, like -10% to Hit)

Numina: Magicy Type attacks! Think of Rune of Warding only for blasts and melee attacks depending on the AT.

Statesman: Thunder Strike Clap! PBAOE moderate damage, enough to almost kill an even level minion who isn't resistant energy damage, that does MAJOR OMG WATCH THEM FLY KB. Plus some minor electic powers.

All patrons of course offer a Shield type power for the squishies, that look like the Patron Power Pool Shields. So nothing to animation busy and can work for any concept really.

    There we go!

  23. I agree with most of this!

I never did care for the hold/immobilize of Blaze Mastery though.

If they could make it so you can grab these powers earlier, or 1st 4 powers are tier 1 and 5th power is tier 2, so I can take any of the first 4 powers as tier 1's, things would be improved greatly!

And replacing Conserve Power with Superior Conditioning, I've been wanting for awhile!

    Me too.

I expected that buying the Booster Packs piece by piece over time would cost more. I thought however, buying them as a bundle package would cost the same as always.

However, I've bought all the boosters so this doesn't really effect me. For all we know, this will be the end of theme packs, and now they'll just release new costumes bits on the market.

It wouldnt be the 90% to 10% we have now, it would be closer to say 60% to 40%. While these are totally made up figures thats what it sure feels like in terms of teaming and activity in the global channels. Have to disagree. Just from personal experience, I've seen more people say they'd rather play the hero than the villain.

Even if they equaled out the content, and red side has plenty of content, blue side will have more people, due to people generally prefering to play the good guys.

For one, it's a mind set thing. Good guys win. Bad guys lose.

What doesn't help is people played blueside for six issues before red side came about.

Not to mention, red side feels like "I'm a lackey" more than anything else.

Maaaybe, if CoV came out with CoH, then the sides might have played a bit more equal, but I'd still put money on there being more people blue side.

This isn't like the 800lb gorilla of MMOs where neither side is clearly defined good/bad. In CoX there is heroes and villains.

Though all that said, I think the content part is garbage, especially now. More people would be vigilantes if they needed more content (hero can go red side!) and if people really wanted to play villains they could go rogue alignment to play mostly redside while still having access to blue side content.
