  1. I'll be there! I'll bring a brute, widow, or MM. *is indecisive*
  2. Sorry to hear that, Arwen.

I'll be afk this weekend. Have a great time, SatMat'rs!
  3. Hmmmmmmm. That might be fun to try out. I'm not sure how well even my best builds would do vs. Romi as part of a duo, but neat!
  4. Mine would be... NOT Kelcius.

But otherwise, 5 softcapped Brutes (SD or SR), a kin willing to stealth about and SB/FS, and a couple Ill/Rad trollers (debuffs, PA for aggro mgmt, and constant fears to help control pesky Romans).
  5. I think I'll be too late to attend, unfortunately. Have fun if I don't make it!
  6. The "I'm killing pixies" line made me lol in the middle of the cafe at work.
  7. I only have limited experience with a defense capped resist toon (my katana/dark scrapper is capped to melee with application of Divine Avalanche and to other positions via power choices and IO sets), but my seat of the pants judgement is that it isn't as survivable vs most foes as my /SR scrapper or brute nor my /SD scrapper. That is even more so when fighting foes that have defense debuffs.
  8. Stuck at work! Have a great time, guys.

Yeah, I'm around there too, at 175% or so. I've never really noticed it being terribly annoying on my Fire/Rad, unlike the annoyance it causes on my set-less Fire/Kin. If I get mezzed there, I'm going to be waiting a long while before getting back into the fight.

I personally chose Fire for the lovely combination of theme and Fireball. Flashfire>Fire Cages>Enervating Field>Fireball is just wonderful.
  10. After a bunch of research in the scrapper forum, I recently did a major respec of Maya the Eternal to take her to the defense softcap. This is a good example of a non-purple high end build for Katana/Dark armor. It makes some tradeoffs to get such high defense numbers, so please take a careful look around the scrapper forums- particularly at recent comments by ClawsandEffect, Werner, and myself, as we dicussed the ups and downs of a softcapped Kat/DA and BS/DA in various threads.

  11. Finally got my build done. It can be seen in this post:

    http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showp...9&postcount=44

Thanks to ClawsandEffect for the initial build!
  12. Here's the final build I ended up with for Maya the Eternal, my Katana/Dark built with Claw's plans. I played around with a few slots here and there, but his original build is easily recognizable.

In terms of actual expense, I probably spent around 350 million on this build, over a period of around 4 months. A lot of the high dollar stuff came as merit reward random drops, so I didn't have to spend too much there.
I still need to get my build posted up, dangit! I keep forgetting. I wanted to comment on these thoughts real quick.

I had similar results on the RWZ challenge- very easy with my ClawsandEffect-based Kat/Dark build.

I actually tried a pylon with okay results, but I got bored by the time the pylon got to about 50% Health, and I used probably ten blues to keep my Endurance up. I've had similar experiences with some of my other high defense toons not designed for AV/plylon fighting. I can survive it, but I get bored with it long before the kill!

My total expenses were about 400m with some poor spending habits, so I think we're in the same range.
  16. I've been playing a DM/FA brute pretty exclusively for the last month or so and gotten it up to lv42. Grain of salt as I'm using brute HP values, but I think it should be roughly comparable.

The last five melee toons I leveled to 50 were a NW, a Ice tank, DM/SD scrapper, SS/SR brute, and a Claws/SR scrapper, all softcapped. So I'm pretty accustomed to high survivability as well! I do have a lv50 SS/Fire brute for comparison too.

DM/Fire works pretty well. I wouldn't say the survivability will impress, but it is decent. I wouldn't say it lacks AoE between Soul Drain, the two PbAoE +End powers, Maul, your damage aura, Burn, and maybe Fireball from your epics! It doesn't have the reliable AoE of Shield Charge or Footstomp, but you can really make a big impact on groups if you are willing to pace yourself correctly. It's nice to be able to start every new group at full HP and End, too.

I think mine is at about 50% S/L resists (with the normal toggles plus Tough), with about +30-40% Rech that helps get Healing Flames up quickly. Add in Siphon Life constantly topping off your green bar and you'll be in pretty good shape. But I'm not jumping into big giant groups of anything like I might with my DM/SD or an SR. I will be taking RotP.

Last night I was doing very well vs. Rikti at +0/x3. Easier foes I can do okay at +1/x6, but I suspect that's about the top end of what the build can handle without serious investment.

I've also been chewed up badly by Romans and Arachnos at those same difficulty settings. For someone used to getting missed so often, it's a bit easy to get beat up by the stuff you would just ignore on something at 45% Defense, like Fortunata's -Rech and Mu -End.

I was on my DM/FA for a few missions, did okay, then hopped onto my DM/SD for a bit. The difference in survivability and damage was noticeable, and the DM/SD was far less click happy. Overall I think it's really fun to play, though. I am enjoying it more than I expected.
