Clipping if visible would be like the world stopping being rendered past a certain distance, for example the floor would abrubtly stop past a certain distance and there would be nothingness (probably the sky colour) along a line in the distance (assuming a flat floor). Fogging sort of blends this into the background and looks a lot better. If geometry is completely fogged out (i.e. past the line of nothingness) then it isnt rendered at all and therefore doesn't strain the graphics card much at all. Some calculations need to be done but not much.
Virtually any graphics engine can only display a certain portion of the world at any time due to processing limitations. -

Yep, good idea - more costume options are always welcome.
Isn't this the point where we make some positive comment about Jay?

Jay already knows he's sexy - doesn't need us to tell him.
I agree wholeheartedly with this thread BTW and to be honest I'm not sure how difficult it would be - you could potentially use multitexturing to achieve it though without knowing anything about how COH works internally it's hard to say for sure. -
Yeah I agree too. My work mate (also my wife's ex-husband but that's another story) is going to play a buddy trial I sent him and it's going to be a pain to sync it all up. He's going to have to text me his newly created character's name so I can invite him to team with me.
I agree - you should be able to reply to tells. That wouldn't help the 'chinese gold farmers' we've inherited from WOW, though I don't find them a problem ATM. Could get worse though. -
As a long-time professional game developer I can tell you that to at least some extent fogging is generally used to prevent visible clipping at the extent of the draw distance. I know that certain zones have a lower fog distance but that is indeed purely for atmosphere. However even interior maps have fogging to some extent to stop you seeing the end of the visible part of the world suddenly disappear in the distance. Sometimes 'darkness' is substituted for fog by having the world fade out to black towards the extent of the draw distance but this is just a variant of fogging - little more than changing the fog colour for a map. Extending your draw distance will probably lessen this (except of course where fog is added for atmosphere) - like PRAF says, if your graphics card can handle it I would imagine - there'd be little point in having a user-modifiable draw distance otherwise.

Hi All,
I used to play on the US servers and transferred over to the EU when the servers went online. I *think* I transferred before the Vet Rewards program went online. Now, when Vet Rewards was implemented I received enough badges to cover the time I spent on the US servers as well as the time spent on the EU servers. However now my vet rewards (from the US) have apparently stopped counting and I have seemingly been stuck on the same badge for well over 3 months. Is this correct or a bug? Anyone else experiencing the same thing?
Thanks. -
Funnily enough I got a Lord Recluse Statuette from Barrington Harvey today. I assumed I won a competition on Boomtown that I entered. Maybe not...

Yeah there's no modification to the Exe at all. I'm more than wiling to provide full source code if anyone from the team has the time and inclination to go over it. I don't expect you to take me up on it but the offer's there.

It uses a method also used by HeroStats to get the current zone - if HeroStats isnt against the EULA then my program isnt either. It gets the current zone by examining the process of the game and getting the window text as suggested elsewhere in this thread.

I mean the map on the website - it was from 2005 unless I'm looking at the wrong map. BTW I now have it pretty much finished, I just need to test my data. If anyone wants to volunteer to give me info on the higher level hazard and trial zones I can't get to then it would be very much appreciated. You won't need to run any executable if you're worried about viruses etc. Of course if anyone want's to help me test the actual application then that'd be great. For any programmers out there, I plan to make it open-source so I can supply source code to verify it doesn't do anything harmful

I did check out Vidiotmaps but the version I saw was 3 years out of date! Is there an up-to-date version out there?

If anyone would find it useful then I'd love to take you up on that offer!

A problem I have in City of Heroes is finding my way around the Cities of Paragon. I'm forever asking teammates 'How do I get to Zone Y from Zone X'. So I decided to do something about it. I'm currently writing a program called HeroGPS. It automatically detects what zone you're in and will allow you to select another zone from a list and plot a path to that zone. Is this something anyone would be interested in? Do I have any volunteers to help test it? My highest character is 27 so I don't have access to all zones so I will need some help testing. If I can find a volunteer to host the installer I will eventually make it available to the community (for free of course
.
I only started work on it today. It currently connects to the City Of Heroes executable and detects what zone you're currently in and I am presently inputting all the data on train stations and zone exits. Any suggestions on the best place to get all the zone data? I started using GameAmp - anything better out there?
Maybe a moderator can confirm that this won't be deemed a 'hack' and therefore against the EULA. Naturally if it is then I won't be continuing my efforts.
Thanks for your time. -
I have started an AR / Thermal corruptor and Im looking for thoughts on the plan for my build. Thanks!
