This is sooooo true. For a fun low level Brute this is basic common sense. (at least until i19, and prob still after.)

I do have my own slotting theories though. They are simple, and brutal. Say I have an attack like Knockout Blow from Strength. It comes in early, and I am definitely, whatever level I am, gonna want that bad boy six slotted. At low levels, before Stamina and SO, I will drop one ACC and 5 End Red into it. If I can get DOs, I might 2 ACC, 4 End Red it. But you get the point.

The theory being, pump your slots to the level you are going to have them in the mid twenties, but at low level drop in a little accuracy and a ton of End Red. Cuts your down time dramatically, which pumps your Fury, which keeps you smashing/doing more damage. (and this works, I promise)

After you can start buying SOs (at the market starting at level 18 SOs, so 15+) you can start to gt more out of your 6 slotted stuff. Still hang onto heavy end reduction until stamina kicks in, and maybe even a little after. Remember, no matter how cool it is to have +95% damage in all your attacks, if your blue bar is empty, you are taking a knee. I would rather have +0% damage in all my attacks, and just keep smashing. When I can afford it (or get market Lucky) I switch to 1 Acc/2 Dam/3 End Red SOs, and if my stamina can take it switch out another end red for a damage. gl.
  2. Thank you. I have 5 purple sets/5 LOTG/and 5 sets offering 5% global recharge crammed onto my new Dark Invul brute. Was gonna do all Accolade powers anyways (he is my new badga), but this way I am way motivated to get them kicked out.

BTW, had to gimp every 50 I have to bring this monster out, and so far, very very worth it. Rock on Cities! C'mon Alpha!

Necros, 50 Dark/Ivul Brute 112.5% Global Recharge, sucked from the souls of everyone in range......
  3. This has probably already been answered here....a hundrd times? But i normally hang in Brute holla.

Does Global Recharge bonuses affect recharge times on Accolade powers?

    Thanks
  4. Glad you found WM/SD. Hope you have fun. 99 times out of 100 there are no bad Brute combos. (I would put one down here, but as soon as I did someone would be like "That's my favouritistest evers!)

    Have fun smashing.
  5. Ah, I think we have come to the misunderstanding here. This build is for badging over the next year, solo'ing arcs/farming badges solo.

I will of course be running task forces/strike forces on it, but it already does okay on them. Hit a Cim ITF first thing last night. I got pinned in a hallway by a giant spawn, team nowhere in sight, and I was wailing on stuff lol. Thank god they ended the mission and I could exit or I would prob still be there kiling stuff.

I am not surprised though, because my last 6 levels before I respec'd, with just SOs, I was farming +2/X8 AE. that was without Soul Mastery attacks, and of course no purps. With my recharge through the roof, a attack that will always refill my end bar (which is up long before i ever need it now) , and 2 Soul Mastery atacks purp'd, he drives like a semi truck. Easier to stop than a tank, but watch out, cause with momentum, even if you stop him there will be a price. (I'm talking to you AVs!)

But seriously, I know there are probably a lot of ways to make this build more "perfect", but I am having so much fun. I really love the added attacks in my 5 purple chain firing off. Great to see knockdown, flames, etc. And the extra damage is just neat. And PS, the Midnight Grasp is a hold now, at least 25% of the time, snicker. Gotta love Gravitational Anchor.

Thanks for the tips. At this point I am just looking for Procs to mule into my one slot powers. Have a great day in the cities.
  6. Actually, with Purples 6 slotted in Smite it hits like a truck for a moderate attack, and is always available with this level of recharge, always. So I use that instead of Siphon Life in my attack chain, and spam Siphon Life if I start taking damage.

Similarly, while Midnight Grasp is gimped as a major attack, it is working wonderfully as a hold. When i19 comes out I will add Fear, and have a solid Hold attack chain going with those two. For Damage I lean on my two Soul Mastery attacks. Also, with 5 Purple sets slotted my two Vet attacks are accurate enough to use, although with this level of recharge I rarely need to resort to them.

In the End, this build is all about bringing Soul Drain up ASAP (it has about 5-10 second cool down now), and having my Panic Button Dull Pain up ASAP. (It can be hit now before it expires, although I rarely need it thanks to my tanky build.) It is my panic button against Psi, AVs, and teams that have bitten off way more than anyone can chew.

Also, when i19 comes out I will add unstoppable, and if you are going to have that, you might as well have it up almost as soon as it drops, cause if you are going to lean on it for a mission, you are going to want it allatime. Theory being Unstoppable, right before crash Ethereal Shift temp power, come out of that, hit Unstoppable again. Let the AV chew on that lol.
  7. I actually don't need the accuracy, due to the 5 purple sets, tons of ACC bonus. The Siphon Life decision was made with the idea of getting a huge heal when I hit it (That is working) and getting another 5% Global Recharge. I will definitely look at that Steadfast Proc. Thanks. (I do not know procs, or even I/Os much)

I just rolled the ITF with a sharp team in less than 30 minutes. I got backed into a corner by a spawn and was wailed onfor like 3 minutes, I just hit Siphon Life when my bar slightly dipped a couple times, never needed Dull Pain even. This guy is gonna make badging a breeze.

Also fought old sparky the Cap GM. I was a team of one, although there were others fighting him. He nailed me a couple times for almost my full end bar, and guess what? I hit him back, grabbing a full end bar from him. Twice in a row, him being the only opponent, and a GM. The global recharge made sure that power was up for the second time fast!
  8. That is absolutely the best thing about the City of.... Absolute customization to your grand plan. (There are limitations of course, but it is better than most)

My recent abomination required stripping all my other characters of 90% of the stuff I had in the game to make one grand brute. I will not say it is the best, and I just 50'd him, so I need to test a lot of stuff. But heck, he is definitely my creation, and I plan to have lots and lots of fun draining my foes of their life force (and treasure lol)

    Cya in the cities.....
  9. For the extra damages + effects (for fun), plus it gives me a ton of toxic resistance all added up, and that is just fun too.

Also, I knew I would be leaning on the 5 powers that are Purp'd as my attack chain (cause Dark melee only offers so many attack powers....) So the more tricked out those 5 are, the more fun I will have.
  10. Dark Armor has 3 toggles that already mitigate damage by stopping attacks from ever starting. Are you saying you don't want stuns on top of these three? (Cloak of Darkness, Stealth/Cloak of Fear, Fear/Oppresive Gloom, Disorient) Or do you not run these, because for me they are part of why I Dark Armor is more a tank build for me than a Brute build. Unfortunately, like so many dark builds, it doesn't work well as it's archetype there either. after all, the stealth really does not scream tank.
  11. 1) Smite: Hecatomb, set 6
    1) Resist Physical Damage: 1 Res SO
2)Temp Invulnerabilty: 3 Res, 2 End SO (still deciding)
    4) Dull Pain: Doctored Wounds, set 6
    6) Shadow Maul: Armeggedon, set 6
    8) Siphon Life: Doctored Wounds, set 6
    10) Resist Elements: 1 Res SO
    12) Swift: Celerity + Stealth
    14) Health: 1 Heal SO, Renerative Tissue: +Regen, Numina's Convalesence, Heal, Numina's +Regen/Recovery
    16) Unyielding: 3 Res, 2 End SO (still deciding)
    18) Dark Consumption: Efficacy Adaptor, set 6
    20) Stamina: 2 End Mod SO
    22) Resist Elements: 1 Res SO
    24) Kick: 1 Acc SO (may switch to damage, or something)
    26) Soul Drain: 3 Rech SO
    28) Invincibility: LOTG +7.5%, Red Fortune x 5
    30) Tough: 2 Res, 2 End SO
    32) Midnight Grasp: Gravitational Anchor, set 6
    35) Tough Hide: LOTG +7.5%
    38) Weave: LOTG +7.5%, Red Fortune x5
    41) Gloom: Apocalypse, set 6
    44) Dark Obliteration: Ragnarok, set 6
    47) Jump: LOTG +7.5%
    49) Hover: LOTG +7.5%

I know the build is still a little raw. Trying to decide if it is worth it to place Reactive Armor in my 3 resistance toggles. Also, looking to put more procs in possibly. Big dream is to get some PvE Def/Res sets slotted in.

I know I gimped Midnight Grasp with Gravitational Anchor, and I am actually okay with that. At low levels below 29 it will not matter, as the power is not up, at 38+ I can lean on gloom, which has purple slotted, with purples in my other 2 attacks from dark, plus tons of Acc bonus will let me use my two vet attacks as regular, and tons of Rech will bring up all attacks so I can spam them. Anyways, that is the theory. And yes, this works. (sometimes) You do not know how gratifying it is to hit DM Shadow Maul, and see a ton of damage happen, cause you are lined up perfect on a lot of guys, so then hit Sands of Mu Vet, and thx to Purp ACC, just do it again. It reminds me of the Fifth Element repeat gun scene, but now I'm getting esoteric.

    Any thoughts?
  12. I know you were talking to the OP Nal, but I effectively neutered my Midnight Grasp as well. I have yet to play it (50'd late last night, respec'd.) But I was not using Gloom and Dark Obliteration during my 40-50 run (soloing x2/+8 mob AE lol). So, my "big hitter" of my dark set has been somewhat gimped, true, but I got 2 more major attacks, and yes, 5 Purple sets! (1 each in Gloom and Dark Oblit) Recharge is now at 112.5% global. Also, with Gravitational anchor I have a 25% hold chance per attack. When I am soloing content from 35 on I will be able to have that extra mitigation, and it might turn the battle working with a dom or troller in stacking holds on a tough opponent (I can dream!) Anyways, really looking forward to grinding with this guy, but working all day, sigh.
  13. I'm actually about to slot gravitational Anchor in Midnight Grasp, cause it's the only way to get 5 Purps on the build that I figured out so far. Probably a poor choice, but I will pull it off if I am really unsatisfied. Probably a case of pursuing one thing too much.
  14. My only suggestion you already got, which is the Proc in your dark armor heal to fill your blue bar. The beast with no blue bar sounds like an appropriate name. How does it run? I bet yo are gruosome on teams with a kin/def???
  15. Lol, god I hope I get done by tonight. I get off work in a few hours. I need 18 bars to 50. Most of that will be in AE, although I need to do a Patron Arc partway to unlock Soul Mastery, so that will slow me down slightly. When I 50, I respec, then start my accolade hunt (Invader done, rest untouched mostly), then I start Strike Forcing when I can get good teams, and Ouro soloing until I am badged up redside, then off to the wild blue yonder for more badging goodness.
  16. The 100% from Frenzy doesnt drop immediately, but it starts to slide within seconds. (Maybe that is immediate in the new rules?) Fighting farms for my last 6 levels, at x2/+8 solo. It seems like my Fury bar is 90%. Are my eyes bad (yes), but no, it seems real close to the end of the Fury gauge. Anyways, I suffer from not enough AoEs, so slow going. (I did not put in Epic powers because I needed to slot def powers LOTG, when I 50 I respec to Purps +LOTG, and get 2 Soul Mastery attacks, one a fat AoE) I am making a level about every hour. Anybody got a good farm for smashing/lethal resistance/defenses? Mine seem to be using something else with theirs, maybe dark. Some kinda undead warrior warehouse thingy.
  17. The cheapest way to make an invulnerabilty more effective is to soft cap Smash/Lethal defense (45%).

Pounding Slugfest (+1.25% E/N DEF for three slots)
Pulverizing Fisticuffs (+1.25% E/N DEF for three slots)

    Damage Resistance sets:

Personally, I am building mine for recharge, but he is dark/invul, not str/invul, and benefits greatly from rech. One note about Rage, you can get around one of the two nerfs at the drop if you double stack it, the -defense one, if Rage is double stacked will not kick in. Your -dam will for 10 sec tho, so lean on Veteran attack powers then if you have them. So some recharge is wise on the build if you are leaning that way. I always had end problems with my SS/Invuls, so I assume you will be using the Energy Mastery from Blueside as your Epic?

Reactive Armor (+1.25% S/L/E/N DEF for four slots)
Aegis (combined +4.69% F/C DEF for five slots)
Steadfast Protection (+3% DEF to all on the unique)

Some of those are expensive, but using them can get you to the soft-cap at least to S/L fairly quickly. Personally I'd neglect Fire/Cold DEF, because strong fire/cold attacks tend to be typed as S/L too for the purposes of opposing DEF. Energy/Negative is your second priority in my view.

Though it's true that your RES covers you against S/L damage already, it's also true that many DEF debuffs are typed as lethal attacks (swords, knives, machine guns). And because S/L damage is so prevalent the more you can ignore it, the better off you are (indirectly) against everything else that might go along with it. Considering those things, and considering that S/L is by far the easiest category for an Invuln build to stack, it isn't overkill to soft-cap to S/L attacks.

Capping both S/L and E/N is doable on a Brute, but you may find that you have to sacrifice undue amounts of +recharge to do that. As usual, it's a matter of taste.
  18. Gratz Claws. And aren't you glad you don't have to name him like in the game, with a name not already taken!
  19. I used to peg 100% pretty regular, just by being on a large team and eating the alpha. I dont use taunt, so had to hop in and feel the love. Prob why I want a tankier brute now lol.
  20. Soul Drain is easiest for me (another reason I prefer Dark Melee). The Power ups just don't last long enough for me. Rage has a crash, and that gets annoying. The solution for me was to go Dark, and go BIG. Ten or so billion invested does wonders for your recharge. (Course, I had to strip every other toon I got to make one Mega Brute, but welcome to non altitis lol.)
  21. Thanks for the numbers Bill. I had a feeling the SS was doing more damage than the DM, but wasnt sure. Still my Dark/Invul feels more tanky than the SS/Will, that's what I wanted.
  22. I do not know the exact numbers. My last main was a SS/Will build with lotsa recharge. Was all the time at Rage x2. My current monster is a Dark/Invul, about to be a recharge monster when I drop in the 5 purple sets waiting for when I 50. (plus another LOTG 7.5%, to augment the 4 already in it.) This brings up the Power up boost on Dark to be about constant. Do not know if this is 300%, but I kills lots lol.
  23. True, Brutes still got it. Starting at 44 I am soloing a Warehouse AE with +1/x6 for a level every hour. Now at 46. Looking forward to 50, and really nice to be able to farm my own way there, and yeah, not hitting full Fury. But tonight I will try my Frenzy power, see what is what, and if it is worth it. I will only have Frenzy for about 6 weeks before I head Blueside, as my new Brute is my main badger. Soon as I finish Redside content I am outta there. (well, as soon as that and I get 20 Villain merits - why not make a purple on the deal?)

And speaking of Brutes NOT being broken. I chose this guy about 2 weeks ago, and solo'd all Praetoria content. I plan to badge all of Ouro as well. Be a useful member on every Task/Strike Force, including Master TFs. What other class can do all of that, wait for it.......Easily? Like not even struggling, ever. The only badge I see a problem getting is the healer badges lol. Standing around with Aid Other spamming it?

Brutes got it all, can tank, can smash, very versatile. Broken? Not today my friends.
  24. I too am a little miffed over the Fury changes. But keep in mind, while the Devs were bending brutes over the design table they were kind enough to give a reacharound. If you do villain tips/villain alignment mission, you get a power that pops you to 100% Fury. Not sure how long it stays there (Mine activates today - 6 day wait after morality mish) But if it stays for even 30 sec at 100% that ain't too bad, specially since you can pop it stone cold and be all the brute you can be, 0-100 in zip. If it pops to 100 then drops to 80 in 10 seconds, then ya, they can crap in their hats.
  25. Tempting when you put it that way Nal, especially since I am not slotting for def caps but regen. This could help me ghetto Def when I need it. Any idea what value def it gives?
