softcapping defense means attacks are usually not gonna hit you. But you are still attacked, and that is all you need to build fury. A hundred guys can miss you every strike and your rage will go right to max....which is about 75% of Fury bar now.

Is spiders still up? Why can farms like this be created? I know a guy that 50'd a toon in 4 hours on this guy from 1st.

There was an excellent, if sometimes hostile, discussion about AoE Brutes last week. that is what convinced me to farm up a SS/Fire/Mu real quick. Great decision, because it's a money maker. Not going to say it is the best. But with 4 AoEs, and a cone, plus a toggle damage aura, I just sit in the middle of a +2/x8 spawn and melt them. No amount of mitigation from a primary will help in this situation. IMO I fight only Fire damage mobs, my Fire res is 90%, so no oranges, and I sit and 3 into 1 purps whenever not spamming AoEs, so I always have 35% plus def running as well. I take limited damage, and it goes very smoothly.

Quote:Just to ask, what gold-class recipe level range do you get LotG's from? I do the same thing with my Energy-Capped SS/Elec and would love to figure out where those rare buggers come from.
I must be extremely lucky, cause i've done all of like 5 days (part-time) farming in the last month, and have had 3 drop, various levels. (My farmer is a brand new toon I spent 2 days 50-ing last week) About 1/3 time I set the gold to 25 hoping for a LoTG, and othertimes I just let it roll whatever level I am at. Most of the crap is worthless, or worth maybe 2-8 mill, but those LoTG are easily worth 100 mil + each. The LoTGs have dropped at various levels, not just the 25th. So I just keep on hitting the gold recipe, and trying not to cry too loudly when I get a rock in my ToT bag. -
I use my SS/Fire just to farm. He only has melee attacks because I havent respec'd out of them, with 4 AoEs and one cone, and a toggle damage aura, he just is a living pain. Because i specifically target fire dealing mobs I only need fire resistance, which is capped at 90% with no oranges. I pop purps for defense. When not atttacking with AoEs I am converting 3 of a kinds to purps. grab 1500 tickets, rinse, repeat. Tons of cash to be made. nice LoTG drops from time o time at the ticket exchange. A decent day farming can bring in a couple hundred mill, sometimes more. Only real danger at any time is boredom.

Quote:Same for me, except I am not doing fitness, cause I got stubborn. (sometimes I am regretting it) Also, in a break from lowbies that I went crazy on for two weeks in Prae, I farmed up a 50 over the last 3 days to farm with, based on the AoE discussion here. Very very happy with the choice. At least until the Devs nerf all farms again. Can't speak for other people, but I'm not letting the anticipation of I19 stop me from playing as usual. In fact, I've been playing a lot of lowbies recently. And just in case they get to 20 or over before I19 hits, I've been picking up fitness powers.
I'm holding off on any respecs, because the reason that I want to respec doesn't exist yet. -
Here is a quick build by HelinCarnate. I am looking for something like this, only even more brutal. It will be the ALT build on the Brute, although the one used 95% of the time. so, no travel powers, no Rise of the Phoenix, no nothing that does not add pure AoE damage, and res/def/health/end. It'sjust a moneymaker for farming Fire Robots. Not even my farm, although I guess I could write one. THey seem to do Fire damage, and Smash/Lethal Defense seems to work against them. Any help is appreciated. Oh, and I'd like to keep the build until 2 bill, if at all possible. I use no Melee attacks, just the FS/Burn Aoe/and 3 Area att from MU, recycled until crispy and done.

This is too true. Jut finished 50ing my SS/FA/MU Brute and he is a monster.....on certain maps. I'd never have this beast as my main, cause on other maps he is a paper tiger. On the other hand, left in the little closet that will be his home he makes money hand over fist.

Quote:Thanks for the correction of my misunderstanding of Scrapper defenses. (Danged, they feel lighter lol). And yes, it can be a good set for Brutes. You know I love the big engines of destruction. I believe you are correct that Scrappers will find this set appealing, I am just REALLY of that opinion. Of all the scrapper sets, considering buffs, etc, this is one of the few interesting to me. Course, I rarely Scrap. But yeah, I love a unique and possibly wonderful variation. (Like Brutes!)Few misnomers here.
Brute and Scrapper defenses are of the same values/modifiers. The only exception is the HP cap, where Brutes excel. Also, Scrapper and Brute damage levels, with Fury going at it's highest, are generally pretty level with Scrappers pulling ahead due to criticals and a higher base damage modifier. I think that while the set will have more appeal for Scrappers, it won't be any less effective in the hands of a Brute. Does that make sense? -
Quote:I don't think that's a good way to look at it. Power Siphon is sort of like Soul Drain, with the damage buffs being applied over the course of a few attacks rather than one AoE.
Yeah, that is what I meant Nalrok. I did not say it very well. I sorta just cut and pasted Paragon Wiki and added a sentence. Basically, as I understand it, you hit the Buff in KM, just like in every other Scrapper Primary. Normally these buff you for like 10-15 secs, not sure, I do not Scrap much. But with KM they did it different. For each KM attack after you hit buff, you get a damage boost, which lasts like 20 seconds, so for 10 seconds, up to 5 attacks, you are building power, then you are doing greatly increased damage for 20 seconds. That is why the insta-recharge crit in the Tier 9 is so beautiful. Think about it, if you could recharge a Buff power while hitting with a major attack in any other power set? It is like, danged, you gave them that? I know Scrappers should do significantly more damage than Brutes, after all, they get shorted on defenses, resistances, health. But let's face it, many arguments have been made that they do not. This set in Scrappers seems to be a new direction for the designers heading back towards that goal. Plus messing with Brute Fury. Yeah, I really get the feeling (IMO, my feeling) that this set is that good for Scrappers. Time and the boards will tell. -
Quote:1) Concentrated Strike is a slow, but incredibly devastating attack that can knock out most opponents, leaving them Disoriented. Due to the exhausting nature of Concentrated Strike, recharge time is very long. Concentrated Strike Criticals (for Scrappers) do not result in extra damage, instead it instantly recharges the Power Siphon/Build Up power. What is it about KM, in your opinion, that makes it more suitable on a scrapper than a brute or a tanker?
Also, repulsing torrent is generally skipped, and none of the other powers do any KB, just KD.
2) KM Build Up greatly increases the amount of damage you deal for a few seconds, as well as slightly increasing your chance to hit.
3) KM Build up is a truly different type of build up power IMO. It takes your next 5 KM attacks, and keeps increasing your damage bonus for each one of those. This is the defining power in KM, IMO. For the Scrapper set to forgo the usual %Crit for the tier 9 and give you this again, WOW! Someone had fun writing this set up. Hats off to Scrappers for getting this in i19. All Brutes got was a hacked FURY system. -
Yeah, I plan to make money off these types of farms from PLing people and the random good reward roll. the killing cash from the AE mish, it is, uh, not so good.
-
It doesnt make any sense to stay 15 minutes in AE, you reach ticket Cap in a couple minutes. Mebbe farming for purps in a TV farm that would make sense. Even if you stayed in 15 minutes, got your "accurate" numbers, they would be useless. Because staying in after the ticket cap is not smart.
-
Quote:It works just as well on a Brute, thank you very much.
KM/Willpower, KM/Invul, and KM/Electric would all be solid choices so long as you skip Repulsing Torrent. Good mitigation to help with your defenses, super-fun and super-resilient sets.
I may need to test it more Nalrok, but take a good look at the tier 9 on Scrappers. It redefines the damage push on the set. Unless I am reading it wrong that way tips the damage dealing capabilities of this set towards Scrappers. -
Quote:Simply due to the way power siphon works, I'd suggest a scrapper over a brute, but that's your own choice. For a goo secondary to pair with it on a brute, I'd go with SR or Inv. SR because as mentioned, it can cap defense pretty easily, and it has a +recharge power to help you use power siphon more often, as well as make burst come up quicker to help with KD mitigation. Inv will work for you since it's hard as nails, and because the large groups you mentioned will help it out with invincibility. That will give you good +tohit and higher defense when you really need them. On top of that, the layered protection from invuln makes the -dam a bit more useful from KM.
Kinetic Melee set is really built for a Scrapper. It can be crammed onto a Brute but it does not fit well. If you are not trying for anything in particular, and are having fun, then enjoy. Anything but Willpower, cause your knockback will take people out of your healing aura. Really consider a Scrapper for KM though, cause that is where the set picks up out of the water and hydrofoils. -
Okay, I did it. Forgive me for being PL'd. 1st time I ever paid for it. (I know, everybody says that.) But I just leveled 10 toons in the last week to 20 in Praetoria, and I coudn't do it again. I started a SS/Fire last night and had him PL'd to 32. Then I set out on my own to test him. OMG This is the easiest exp/tickets I have ever done solo in AE.
After fiddling around at lower settings I cranked it to +2/x8. After a couple minutes I hit ticket cap, map still full, exit repeat. (I need to egg timer it to maximize, still testing lol) I am leveling fast, 34 after a couple "test" missions.
I mostly hit Footstomp, Burn, eat inspirations, repeat. The inspiration eating is steady, cause the AoEs keep killing, feeding me. That in turn speeds up the process, keeps me up. No fitness pool, so ya, eating Blues, Greens, I eat em all, fast as they drop. And keep spamming AoEs. It would be uber boring if every time I looked up I didn't see my Exp bar in a way different place then it was last time I looked. Very motivating.
so Far, using SS: Punch, Haymaker, Knockout Blow, Rage, Footstomp. But really mostly just hitting Rage and Footstomp. Using FA: all powers/resists. Have burn patch as highest at 34. Using Fighting set for both toggles. Using Jump set for the 1st toggle. Have flight set, for theme/movement.
Looking forward to my 3rd Aoe from an epic pool, will pick today before I head back to the cities after work. Thinking Soul Mastery, for both theme and cause I like it, but willing to take suggestions.
Yes, it is a themed AE. They all do Fire damage, and i stil have green bar problems. Not sure if they resist fire/smashing, but they are sure dropping fast. (I am using a random Fire Farm, there seem to be millions these days)
Great thread, BTW, this will be my new farmer for the next few months. My main, a pimped out Dark/Invul, is great for badging/TF, but could never ever kill mobs at this rate. -
Quote:Yeah, I think you are right. To be truthful, this thread is sooo long, and the writing is perhaps not optimal. I find myself losing cohesion if people do not reiterate their position clearly and make their statements based upon that. My own failing. Again, my own prefence would prob be SS/FA, but I've decided not to roll one, cause it might bore me. But, the day is long, by 5:30 I might change my mind. But seriously, to wait to 32 for it to startt to perform, ich, its not even the weekend, no time to level the beast. That's not what I'm reading at all. He's saying to compare Claws vs. his SS Brute and see if you can beat any of the numbers he posted.
K, tell me why I am wrong. We have done a lot of talking about Fiery Aura being king of AoE for secondaries. I know we are not in agreement, completely. But still, i think we can all say it is a decent choice if you are going for a top AoE Brute. So, say we are choosing a Fiery aura toon, why not Fire Melee? the build up power for FA would effect all fire attacks for 30s. This could be made to be at least 50% of the time with little investment, and near perma with serious care. The PBAoE for Fire Melee is a 10ft circle. The only thing I do not like about it is the sword animation. Ich, I mean really. Disney Sinbad anyone? -
Quote:does anyone/everyone understand that chart but me? I kind of get what they are saying graphically. But it makes no sense intellectually. The thing should be up, then down, with a time when you cannot use it again (or if you do does little good). Does anybody know what these actual times are? Why do all the official and semi-official data areas for this game have to be written by people with ADD and no editors? I swear, do you know how many adjectives for damage they give that all mean exactly the same number? conversely, i have seen them use the exact same adjective for damage, to mean wildly different numbers. Do they have an random adjective generator they are forced to use when writing descriptions of all powers?

Quote:Thank you. My search has gone exceedingly well. Various threads like this have popped up a multitude of times and I have learned a great deal from these threads.

As I stated in a previous post in this thread: "Pick any non-AE map you want, set on any difficulty you want, with any Claws/X brute with whatever IOs you want. Beat any of those numbers. I wrote the difficulty and player settings I used. Feel free to use different ones."
For inspirations, I generally fill up my tray with Tier 1s and then use them and whatever I find along the way.
Ah, i missed the previous post. So, your position is Claws/any secondary/any epic/any I/O beats everything else in every non-AE situation. Interesting. I will give this thought. -
Quote:Dude, that so varies. baddies, in general? Because different Brutes perform wildly different against different enemy types. what one Brute mows through another dies against. No one buildout of Primary/secondary/epic + enhancers works best against everything. It just does not work that way.I want to know which set kills the most baddies in the game... not on paper.
so, these discussions are about raw damage output mathematically. Potentials, not reality.
Also, even if you only had one type of baddie in the game, it still varies. Are we talking AE +4/x8 mobs? they group for killing. Or are we talking Strike Forces, special rules? or are we talking door missions? All will affect a Brutes performance, and even if all the baddies were the exact same, no one Brute would be best for all 3 situations, probably (I do not crunch numbers, i is a artist)
Good luck in the cities, and in your search for the killer brute. -
Quote:ATM, no preference. I would guess that I need a secondary that has a good selection of single target dmg for the bosses and aoe for the mobs. I tried stone melee and didn't like it much. It seems to kill slower than elec melee for mobs. However, Elec melee is a bit lackluster for single target. I'm leveling a couple of brutes with SS to see how that works out.
Attack sets are primaries for Brutes. I was wondering what defensive set was your preference for Brutes? -
This really is a great thread. I have absolutely no hard data to add. I do love many of the posts and details however (did 2 years calculus at one point, and I love these discussions)
for personal choice I am lazy (and I run a lot of non-AE, cause I just do) I have experience with SS and like, and Claws redraw just bothers me. The laziness refers to the large diameter, no ain. I slide to a SS/FS build myself. In fact, I am thinking of the costume/name even as we speak. -
Wow Bill. Using squishiness as part of my attack strategy! that is thinking outside the box. Okay, I've never been scared of debt.
still looking for procs for pimpin' -
Heyas again. After rewriting this guy for names/costumes 4 times and getting him to all of 4th level 3 times I have settled on a look/name and am at the glorious level of 12. Yeah.
He is somewhat fragile, luckily I have been blasting for most of the last week, so am used to playing durty.
Dark Melee I am very familiar with, having experimented with it many times on many builds, as well as using it on my current main. (DM/Invul) Fiery Aura, not so much. It is mostly a damage dealing set yes? No defenses, and Resist primarily for Fire, and nothing to write home about there?
So, any help with the Synergy between the sets is what I am looking for. I am using "Touch of Fear" for the first time, just started, and I am hoping it will buy me time in Boss fights. Anybody know if that works on Bosses? The power is Mag 3, their prot is Mag 3, which wins the tie? (Also planning on going Hero at 20, Prae startup, and then going Vigilante, getting that Vigilante fear power to stack...if I stay with ToF anyways) Touch of Fear I have always avoided, since it wasn't pure damage. But I am really wanting some mitigation, a few seconds brings my heals back up, and living is always nice. Anyways, if you have experience with these two together please help.
Also, any "must have" Procs that can make this guy run smoother. (Like the theft of Essence Proc in Dark Armor's Dark Regeneration, true game changer) i am seriously considering KB Prot, but the cost for an altitis guy like me is high. I keep promising myself no more than 20 mil left in alt toons, but I feel like i am going to 50 this guy. Anyways, if you know a truly great Proc i can justify the cost as an "experiment" and have fun for weeks. thanks.
