Really, the fox tailed thingy or whatever? Wow. I get grilled for a week, not a word from the mods. Someone puts lipstick and a jumpsuit on a cartoon character, stop the presses. There ain't no justice.
-
Yeah, I ran a SS/Will for almost a year as my main. i am now leveling another cause I want a clean slate. Like any Brute, pre-20 is kinda painful. Slot for End reduction in attacks and whether the storm (until i19). But from 20 on SS/Will is a monster. It plays like a fat Scrapper, not a light Brute. You do best taking a good look at the landscape, and trying to avoid giant alphas. (This is where I spend all my mental energy in the game, not deciding how to perfect my attack chains, but deciding where I can survive jumping in and winning)
Your only real tools for paying off mistakes with Willpower are Inspirations and good teammates.
But for me SS is just fun, and one of the reasons I chose another Brute instead of a Scrapper for my A Merit ticket earner. -
You said low level. Are we talking around 25? Cause if so doesnt SS kick but over everything (barring the need for any Aoe that is) You get Rage at 18, and Knockout Blow at like level 3. (Okay, exaggerating, but way early) You get a solid attack chain with SS way early, and the Rage thing just kicks it into a new world.
I know Energy Melee does great ST damage, but it really is burst, and the attacks come in much later, right? -
Even though I am actually trying to avoid capping anything on this build (remember, theme is middle of the road) I will actually do this part Nal.
-
Yeah, it's hard for me to run Dark/Dark because the toggle management and timing of certain powers like AoE End Drain and Heal are art forms. So willpower is fun for me. But someday (After Dark/Invul is done) I will look at creating the Uber Dark guy. But whereas my Dark Invul is built very straightforward (if stubbornly so) I will really need to sit with Mids for weeks and decide my buildout before i tackle Dark/Dark. I have dark/dark tank at 32, and a dark/dark Brute at 40, both SO'd except for KB prot and that Proc in the heal. But yeah, SS/Will is just pure fun for me for now.
-
heh, I guess I like boring. The SS/Will was my main for almost a year. And here I go making another.
But yeah, i even want to push boring further I guess, by enhancing the Willpowers okay at everything, not a master of anything feel to become pretty good at everything, master of nothing. Part of the thought being on Def/Corr/buff heavy teams he really shines, since his base numbers are all repectable to begin with. Or when I pop Oranges and Purps just one goes a long way.
And yes, i really do enjoy the SS build, but for Knockout Blow really lol. -
Hey folks. I am in the process of setting up a SS/Willpower Brute. I had one as my main for almost a year, but the build was not optimal by any means, and i stripped it some months back.
My goal with the new build is to place enhancement slots, I/O sets, and Procs/Globals in such a way as to always get the most bang for my buck. The theory being that the Alpha Slot content will build on a very solid base.
So, I am not trying to softcap anything, I am not trying to max anything. The goal is that everything I put on, I want to use as few slots as possible to get as much as possible. It is a generic build. Much like the Willpower set itself that I am building this on, not great at anything, just good at most things.
The toon will run mostly at 50+ content, so the enhancers should be highest level where possible, except for Globals when it makes most sense to be minimum level.
Thanks in advance for any input. -
Okay, first let me say that I am ignorant of a few things here. If you doubt that i am sure my fan club will be along shortly to reassure you of the validity of this statement. I have never run an Electric anything past 5th. What i know about the Alpha slot just about begins and ends with how to spell it. But I ran a Willpower brute as a main for almost a year. (SS/Will). One thing stood out is you are slotting End Reductions, and lead off your Alpha Slot discussion with an Endurance management power. You cannot be telling me you are having End issues? Cause doesnt Electrical Melee give you at least some End back? And Willpower, sheesh, it's like the energizer bunny. I thought maybe you ain't running fitness, but that is solved with i19, and still. Do you really need End Red on the build currently? I mean, i need End help on my SS/Invul SO'd Brute, but, you know, those guys always run hot, specially pushing the fighting set.
-
Quote:Don't forget the Alpha slot. Unless you plan on exemping a lot, there's an easy source of extra recharge. Or end management. Or damage. Your choice. And some of it bypasses the ED limits.
I am so curious about how this is gonna affect this silly build. You have no idea. Bwah hah hah, running around spamming Soul drain, Dark Consumption, and Dull Pain. Mwah hah hah. Very tanky build that can still fight like a wet cat. -note: never ever said best at anything-
Anyways, it almost makes me sad. I am leveling a new SS/Will Brute because I gimped my other one stripping all my sets off him. (I never like to put a ton of cash onto a build I have no easy way to get off, so like to have a tricked out Brute with all my Vet Respecs available to tear back down) Now i am gonna have to let this guy Languish if i cannot 50 him ultra fast because i will be running all content as much as possible on my Dark/Invul main to get more uber stuff. As it is he stopped being my ticket earner because I pulled him off Villain merits and he is now Rogue. This is to ensure he can team either side to maximize 50 team goodness. I am now just grinding out A merits with an old SS/Invul SO'd 50 i had laying around lol. -
Quote:Hmm, I want to cram just 2 into it if possible, but it looks thin. Might try it for a week though.http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Perma
Permahasten - Hasten needs a total of +275% Recharge
205% after Hasten's own +70%, 110% after 3 recharge SOs for ~95%
i read it as 275-70 for hasten itself = 205. 205 - 127.5% I think i can easily cram into it = 77.5% target. With a very little luck I can get 51 or 52s, keep combining up until I get 53s = 38.33% each so 77.5% - (38.33% x2) = .84 missing. Now, if I remember right I was trying to go for another 3.75% lol. Okay, thanks for the intel. I keep cogitating. -
Quote:So you're saying Luck of the Gambler is my salvation and all this time it's been my downfall, i've been relying on random rolls and getting diddly. Your tactic entrigues me Jim_G and i thank you for your insight. Have been playing this wretched game for 5 years and only ever had 2 drops worth more than 50 mill.
Watch out CoXers, Baron Bone - Daddy is coming!
Also, you can random roll for 1 A merit and get 5 recipes. Real trick or treat. I did it once and got one LOTG +7.5% and 4 garbage. Not sure if its a great long term tactic, but it worked once. -
Quote:Actually yeah, thats the build I am going with, just thought the math came to 125% Thanks Arbegla. I will start thinking about how I am actually attacking very carefully. In truth, I spend half my time considering attacks in slow combats, and the other half spamming whatever in crowrded room brawls. Not optimally efficient i am quite sure, but fun for me. I already know that whichever I do, my recharge will increase on all powers when i respec and add hasten, which is why i am relatively sure i will go this route. (All this recharge has never quite been about my attack chain per se, other than bringing up Dark Obliteration more often. It has been about bringing up Soul Drain, Dark Consumption, and Dull pain. They are what I call my "Meta Powers" for the build. True game changers I want up as often as possible, at the expense of love and profit. But never fun, never sacrifice fun.)I can get 120% recharge pretty easily base off your previous build. i can't get 125% due to the rule of 5. Now, if i replace the doc wounds in siphon life with 5 panacea, and swap unyielding to impervious skin's im at 127.5% recharge. Would that work? I can add in hasten no problem, i personally wouldn't like the end result, but i can do it for ya.
PS. Anybody know how many recharge enhancers I gotta throw into Haste to make it Perma on a 127.5% + Hasten build? -
Sure, if you could give me a breakdown on what effect pulling the dam/rech, or even the straight recharge enhancer off these sets would have in actual seconds for each power. This on the 125% global + Hasten build. If it is where i think it might be I'll prob yank them on the 1st respec, or at least 3 of them, cause I'm already switching out 7 I/Os that run.
-
Quote:Yeah, I may strip all my Purple sets down to 5 each, but will probably wait until the 2nd i19 respec to do it at the earliest. I want to get a feel for the attack chains with Hasten, then look at the Rech curve % numbers how many actual seconds will be lost each recharge if that is done, plus how much damage%+ from enhancer bonuses is dropped if I pulled a Rech/Dam off each set, or possibly the immobilize off MG. I know it is rarely useful, but to actually have the toxic % respectable on this build has been fun for awhile. Too bad I didn't have it for every spine warden I've ever met. Anyways, these are more thoughts going through the noodle.Alright, fair enough.
Glad I could help. If you don't mind forgoing the 5% Toxic Resistance, another idea for your Midnight Grasp (if you want to keep the chance-for-hold): Remove the Grav-Anchor Immobilize and drop in a single Damage SO. That should provide a beefy boost to your MG and let you keep your 10% recharge bonus. -

Quote:Hey jshmoe
I realize this may be thread-jacking, but since I'm using a variant of your ultimate ***-kicking build, might I inquire what you are going to do with it for I19? Any plans on what will you use with the three extra powers/incarnate slots?
Cheers,
IM
Well, I am slamming in Hasten lol. I was thinking of adding Soul Mastery, Tentacles, but have hear the cone is real narrow. I am set up for Fly, want it, but may wait a bit still. I kind of want stealth, but am getting by with ghetto brute +stealth I/O. With my 42 mo vet recall team power and stealth I could help speed some TFs. but 2 powers.
I will prob take Hasten, Fly, and....havent decided. The only true definite is Hasten. -
Quote:I have not complained once in this post about the cost of my enhancers. I did discuss market pricing in the market forum. When the vast majority of the 700 posts there kept shying away from the topic of market discussion to how I built my Brute I came back to Brute forum. The problem is that Blue wants to complain about the price of enhancements
If you continue to harangue me like this I will complain to the forum moderator that you are engaging in annoying behavior. -
Quote:Arbegla, did I pay you to post this? Seriously, thank you.Nor is it accounting for the higher end cost of your builds attacks. having to use shadow maul to suppliment your attacks will have a massive impact on your endurance. it may be sustainable from a recharge aspect, but i seriously doubt you'll be able to sustain it from an endurance aspect.
Dark Consumption: The dark power of the Netherworld allows you to tap the essence of your foe's soul and transfer it to yourself. This will drain the Hit Points of your enemy and add to your Endurance.
With a ton of Global Recharge on the build this pops up very fast. It is already more than enough with 117.5% recharge, even just one slotting Fitness:Endurance.
This is yet another reason I am building the way I am. And Soul Drain, and Dull pain, and AoEs, and and and -
Quote:I already tanked the LRSF with this build. Thanks for your concern. Got a big thank you from the team, especially for the time I held POSI off for 2 minutes while the team piled onto another Hero.B_C, do you primarily solo on this character or mainly team?
When you do team do you take the role of main tank or support?
If you do mainly team, and are main tank most of the time how successful are you in completing the missions/SF/TFs, and how often do you faceplant?
I only ask because, from the look of your build as a team setup, I feel you are not only hampering yourself but the rest of the team as well. IMO you are going to find it very difficult (if not impossible) taking on the last mission in an LRSF/STF and succeeding as main tank - and you can probably forget going for any of the "Master of" Badges (you did mention this character was your main badger).
just some food for thought there.
Again, I am not saying this is the best Dark/Invul Brute that ever walked outta Grandville. I am saying I am having fun on it, and really am enjoying playing it.
And again, thank you for your concerns, when going for the 'Master of" badges i will be working with an excellent team, and either have a tank, or have buffers. That is the traditional way of doing these things after all. -
I respect your opinion Nalrok. Quite a few of my new fans here are fresh off a 700 post beat down of me in the market forum. And they really hate me for poking at their sacred cow.
But you are quite correct. You pointed out many of these flaws some time ago. I am having fun with the build. I will continue on my quest.
I posted this line of question on Smite Life specifically, and my build in the other post, to get this off the market forum and into the Brute forum.
Chasing ST DPS on this build is as silly to me as chasing high global recharge seems to be to these guys. I have a certain way of running this guy, and this is it. From what I have heard Dark Melee has some of the highest ST DPS in the game for Scrap/Brute. If I am at 80% of that, that is not bad. It is not as straightforward as that, due to Soul Drain, etc. -
Quote:Thank you Arbegla. I meant SOs in each of the Powers being examined, just to keep things simple. Although of course the build is riddled with I/Os.Using SOs, theres really no way you can hit 125 global recharge without hasten. Its not possible with SOs.. So, the only way to hit that level of recharge is with IOs. You factor in hasten, and your sitting on 195% global recharge, you assume ED capped recharge, and your at about 294% recharge, which is the baseline for VERY HIGH END IO builds.
the best brute attack chain goes as follows
MG->Smite->SL->Gloom->smite which the build i made you can do, seemlessly
this chain, using my build does about
240.43+157.5+181.88+193.11+157.5
=930.42 damage the chain takes 8.052 seconds to animate, so thats 115.55DPS
The only chain your build that sustainable, is MG-Smite-gloom-Shadow maul-smite which does
127.2+152.25+191.23+226.3+152.25
=848.23 damage, in the 9.24 seconds, so that's 91.91DPS
If you dropped shadow maul, and got shadow punch, and kept about the same slotting, you could higher DPS. but i can see the argument to keeping shadow maul. just for reference, here's the chain that would include SP
MG->Gloom->Smite->SP->Smite
127.2+191.23+152.25+74.26+152.25
=697.19 damage in 6.996 seconds, so that's 99.65DPS
This helps a lot. It tells me I'm about 80% of optimum single target damage when i have to lean into that task. I am very happy with this, not ecstatic, but happy. 90% would have made me feel great.
In fact, as pointed out, I am generally not going ST. I know it is widely dissed on the forum, but I use SL and DP to make my build more tanky. And contrary to an opinion posted earlier i lean on Siphon Life as my main heal, and Dull Pain as my panic button. (I could have swore I posted that earlier) I always watch my green bar, anytime it starts to dip I hit Siphon life.
Thank again for your assistance. -
I ask for assistance (really a very specific clarification) in that i would love to see the numbers for the classic Dark Melee Attack Chain, using only SOs versus an attack chain created with no Siphon life, but throwing in Soul Mastery Gloom, also SO'd. Figure 125% global recharge plus Hasten for both attack chains. Please plot out the attack chains long enough so that both recycle to the starting point and are usable again.
The goal here is not to see if the Classsic attack chain using Siphon life can be beat. It is purely to look at the difference in an observational setting.
Rarely will this attack chain be used, since that would mean that I was fighting an AV with nothing around it. that happens about 1% of the time in high level content. But again, we are examining. -
Quote:With gloom, the highest single-target dps attack chain is gloom/smite/midnight grasp/smite. The attack chain does not have siphon life. However, such attack chain requires a very high recharge such that midnight grasp can be recharged at the end of the cycle. If your global recharge can be 200%, you still need to slot midnight grasp with recharge reduction to hit ED.
Practically, single-target attack chain is only relevant when you're fighting AVs or tough bosses. In teams, you'll most likely interlace your single-target attacks with AoEs whenever your AoEs are up.
Thank you so much Twilight Snow. I will be respecing in 2 weeks, at which time my build will have 125% global recharge, plus Hasten, and Midnight Grasp is six slotted with Gravitational Anchor. Hopefuly that will bring it up fast enough. I will write down this attack chain to test.
You bring up a very good point about Single Target damage, in general I am hitting Dark Obliteration a lot, and might squeeze the cone attack from Soul Mastery onto the build as well for more AoE goodness. I do fight AVs and such, but really, the toon is a survivable mosh pit member on big teams in general, tanking when necessary. -
Here is my original post in this chain:
Okay. I have a DM/Invul that uses a ton of recharge. I am not using the classic DM attack chain. I rely heavily on Gloom and Dark obliteration from Soul Mastery. They are both purpled, and both up a lot. (ranged doesnt hurt either) I also use Smite as a finishing/placeholder attack (again purpled), Shadow Maul if it looks like I can get 2 or more (also purp'd), and of course Midnight Grasp, (purpd, although with rooting grasp, so not optimally enhanced)
I only use Siphon Life when down hit points-maybe once every 30 seconds in medium fighting, or every 15 in heavy mobs. Started as an early habit because at low levels the sucker eats end. Currently my recharge is around 117%, will respec into Hasten after i19 and get more recharge.
I have gotten quite the earful about how not using Siphon life is ruining my attack chain. I am throwing out tons of damage as is (especially since Soul Drain is tantalizingly close to perma)
Any opinions from fellow Brutes on attack chains here?
I have further went on to say that i know that not slotting Siphon life and using it for damage is hurting my attack chain. I actually run this character. i run it through tough high level content.
I have further asked for assistance (really a very specific clarification) in that i would love to see the numbers for the classic Dark Melee Attack Chain, using only SOs versus an attack chain created with no Siphon life, but throwing in Soul Mastery Gloom, also SO'd. Figure 120% global recharge for both attack chains.
Also, I cannot say enough that I run this character at high level content, in flashbacks, doing strike forces. Iplay the character a specific way, using Dull Pain and Siphon Life in what appears to be a completely different manner than is regularly used in the cities. i wil say this, the way I use it has saved my bacon, when i need a ton of healing power, more than once.
Again, i realize I am not "maximizing" the damage potential of this character. The question I am asking here is, substituting in Gloom into the attack chain, how do the damage numbers over a period of time really change. -
Guess i'll have to struggle through with 92 seconds then. thanks.
