  1. Im always reluctant when I argue anything to say "Ive got experience" as usually somebody will go "yeah course you did" Ive had some bad experience on forums in the past so apologies if Im not making sense.

I had a level 30 claws / regen stalker actually prior to deleting to free up room for my new chars. So While I may not be a Stalker expert as yourself maybe, Im definately not as clueless as most of the people who are countering my concerns would like to believe.

He does have a list of set bonuses aye. And as I say insps are used.

Like I say, I still think Invul will make a VERY formidable stalker. And on that note, Im going to wait and see. But hopefully Im just being paranoid. If stalkers get invul and lose invincibility it'll probably balance out ok.

Dull pain does just shy of diddly for a stalker. Once you have accolades, you're only a few % from the hit point cap. I know my /regen stalker and EA stalker cannot use their +HP powers to increase their HP.

And don't forget that all stalker defense sets miss out on one power because of hide. It would likely be the passive resistance power or even invincibility.

Not to mention that all the sets are pretty much balanced as is. My Dark Armor Stalker could stand in the middle of an 8 man spawn. I've seen regen and ninjitsu and SR stalkers do the same. What would be the big deal if an invuln stalker could too?
Ok the one shot thing might be an extreme exaggeration on my part for that I am sorry, but on a good day an assassin strike can remove a lot of health. Which is partially my concern. Because if Stalkers get invul and keep Invincibility, they are going to have considerable defence, and as I've said before resistance to melee damage well beyond any of the other armour sets, and they are supposed to be a squishy AT.

Other stalkers engaging 8 enemies at a time is something doable and I'd expect it, but I've seen my friend on his MA/Invul scrapper engaging close to, if not, double that by himself. I guess that's what primarily occupies my thoughts. And while its no cakewalk for him and insps have to be used occasionally, he does get through it. A stalker with an assassin blow which will inflict considerable damage, possibly even terrorising some nearby enemies can then be whittled away readily.

I suppose the thing I had in mind was the difference that Temp Invul makes if you pick it up on a Defender to their ability to repel the damages.

    Quote:
EDIT: You mentioned nothing can reduce Melee damage better than Invul, to this I heavily disagree as any Defense set that prevents a hit from happening effectively reduces the damage of that hit by 100%
As I understood, all enemies have got a 5% chance to hit you no matter how high your defence is. Which is why, if you have invulnerability and the hit lands it will be minimised better than other resistances.

Running to get hide status back is actually more likely to get you killed solo, and on teams it really hampers your damage.

Also, stalker damage isn't really all that. They're more comparable with scrappers in the long run... with less AoE for many of their sets and less survivability overall.

Yes, Invul can be tough, but it isn't really that, heh, invulnerable compared to the other armor sets. It won't suddenly make Stalkers that much tougher than they were before.
I understand how invul compares to other armour sets perfectly well. Perhaps not as well on things that don't hardcap at 90% though I'll grant you, which maybe where my concern stems from.

But I disagree, in theory at least, about Invul not making them tougher as an AT. As you'll be in point blank range once you strike, and given how invul can reduce melee damage taken better than any other armor set, I do believe that would be enough to remove a stalker from squishdom even without IO sets. Especially as most melee damage is smashing and lethal in the game and, once you factor in Invul's defences of Tough Hide and Invincibility, you're effectively making a squishy character extremely tough and then, there is dull pain's massive hp boost on top of all that. When you factor in physical resistance that exceeds everything else, defences to everything bar psychics, the ability radically boost your HP for several moments, and you really think an invulnerable stalker wouldn't be all that once they've practically one shotted the boss?

I have to say, Im not convinced to the contrary of my thoughts.

    This!

Power Sink is such an invaluable tool to have, even if you don't need the endurance, you can still use it and drain the endurance out of your enemies. If they haven't got the endurance, they can't hit you with their big attacks, and it helps you take less damage over all. Its the gold standard of electric armour.

Stalkers are squishy characters who engage in melee attacks and then peel out when the going gets tough, hit and run is the main game of a stalker, element of surpise. You give a stalker invulnerability, and after they've killed the big guy with their assassin strike they should be able to plow through the rest relatively easy thanks to the massive resistances invulnerability offers to melee damage, combined with the damage even standard stalker attacks are capable of inflicting. Suddenly an invulnerable stalker has the ability to become a killing machine... with impunity. I'm just afeared it might overpower them a tad in PvE
  6. Im not sure putting Invulnerability on a Stalker is a good idea, or Stone Armour.

For one thing, Stalkers do insane amounts of damage as is in a burst, put invulnerability on them, and you get the potential to have a vicious little one-shotting teambuster. One of the game play factors of a Stalker is hit and run tactics. Invulnerability would mean pretty much, running isn't required, and also, stone armour? Not much running going to be going on there. LMAO
  7. That sounds epic! Clobber is pretty much the biggest gun in the War Mace set. If I bruise my target with bash first, and then hit clobber it connects easily for about 500+ damage mostly. If I put build up before hitting with clobber, that does insane damage, Im just picturing a musculature enhancement on top of that!
  8. I didn't really build her to be a Tanking Tanker, more of a Combat Tanker, essentially, I was making a warrior goddess.

If there is another Tanker on the team, I will happily bow aside and let them be the main tank. However, saying that, she can turn her hands to a tanking role quite easily, unless its vazhilok, in which case no chance of me tanking those guys! Essentially, I made her a Tanker because there were no war maces available for scrappers back when she was constructed which was what I wanted for her theme.

I could have done a brute via Praetoria, but, I didn't want to be grappling with a rage bar, also, power sink at level 35, harsh! So essentially, she's all about inflicting pain, set bonuses to boost damage, quick recharge on build up. 6 slotted attacks (naturally anyway).

I guess, I just answered my own question too!
  9. Last night guys, I got my other Tanker to level 50, she's now an *** kicking machine even if I say so. She's kitted out with IO sets as well, we got defence bonuses, recovery bonuses, health increase, regen boosts, damage boosts and the list goes on to name a few...

So, I also unlocked the alpha slot by running mender ramiels arc, so now I am debating, do I go for Cardiac, or Musculature... Im leaning personally to muscle, principly because well, Endurace isn't really a problem on Electric Armor Tankers thanks to power sink, you can just steal all the end you want from your enemies. However thinking about it, having the extra damage resistances from Cardiac would be nice.
  10. I have no intention of shelving my FF Defender, simple reason is that while you may have capped defences to this that and the other, it doesn't hurt to have a little more. Not only that, there are many Controllers, Dominators, Blasters and other squishy characters that can really benefit from the massive amount of defence a forcefielder can produce because not everything is soft capped to this that and the other.

While you have the incarnate skills for sure and set bonuses, and they make a huge difference I grant but, I fiercely disagree with the notion that this makes a Forcefielder obsolete. Somewhat less valued maybe, but not obsolete.

    electric melee

I have an invulnerable / Electric Melee tanker and she rocks that stuff!! I would advise against not taking Jacobs ladder, its a pure energy attack, you use that against something like nictus or the CoT Daemon lords etc, it will hurt them.

Also, speaking of CoT if you find yourself in one of those narrow little corridors and you get a group coming towards you and you fire off Jacobs ladder, chances are you will hit everything in front of you. So in that respect its worth it.

Electric Melee is great due to the sheer AoE goodness if affords. Thunderstrike is just groovy to behold and as for Lightning rod, that for me, is like the creme de la creme. When you get it, you'll love it!
  12. I like the idea of Super Reflexes on a Tanker, if you want a defence based tanker, as you don't have to look at chunks of ice or stone around you for example and you'll have defence to everything, even psychic attacks. Plus it will give higher values of defence than a brute or a scrapper. Easier to hit that 45% for most damage types.

Martial arts will be cool but with a bit of luck they will award dragons tail sooner, as waiting till 35 will be harsh, then again, you have to wait till 38 to get footstomp on Super Strength so I doubt there will be a concession on that.

I've already got 3 Tankers so doubt I'd make another. I still have a MA/SR scrapper on the way up presently. So, got my hands full with Tankers, I feel I got my own Panzer division here.
  13. I'd certainly like some kind of metal looking techy based defence/resistance set, but, in my opinion the three that stand out for me in the tanker primaries are:

    Invulnerability
    Shield Defence
    Willpower

Reason being they don't have the word "Armor" in them. Which may sound petty as hell, but with all the others being armours, it feels as though it doesn't, "come from within" if you see what I mean.

    My first lambda

Last night, after putting it off as long as was superhumanly possible, I finally caved in, and I went on a Lambda. One quick teleport to Pocket D and all of a sudden there are 15 other eager supers ready to go and stick it to Marauder. The cameraderie, the neon lights, the ambiance. We're ready!

Some banter aside where I am referred to as a virgin etc... and we finally just, poof, into Lambda. We didn't speak to a contact, we just literally went whoosh. Straight there. Ok, no problem, I'm now stood in Praetoria, I got to run forward, I can't move!??! What's this!?! Some sort of evil holding powers? Some kind of invisible grip!? I check unyielding is turned on, it is, why aren't I moving!? Suddenly, the group I am looking at is defeated, and I haven't budged from the very spot I was standing on.

Alright, its supposed to be laggy, and it has been known to choke computers. I'm on a 30 meg internet connection, I have a computer which in the past has effortlessly ran COH on maximum settings ITF's 8 man teams, whatever... this is my first lambda blast you and the people who know what to do, I can't even watch them to learn, because its like looking at a powerpoint slideshow here!

    FREAK OUT!!

Return to the computer, ok, lets try again. Ok, I find a heavy commander, yes!!! I got to punch him. I see myself take a hit, the screen freezes. Its a little ambush there are things coming from behind... freezes again. I can't move, can't punch, can't even type messages to my fellow heroes. Screen unfreezes. Oh, I'm dead on the floor, and there are now Seers hovering about. Where did they come from? I didn't see them.

Woe is me. Freak out part 2.

Return to the computer, wakey. Where did everybody go? I dunno. Message is go down the elevator. What elevator, where?! Somebody TP's me, I end up somewhere else, and there is a massive warwlaker stomping up behind me when I rematerialise. Oh hell, time for a Knockout blow!! Freezes... can't move. Oh crap.

    Mapserver!! FREAK OUT PART 3!!!!!!!!!

Reconnect. I am now back in pocket D. Right, what the hell do I do now!? Click on LFG, ah yes, there is a button there to take me back... do I really WANT to go back!? Long pause to deliberate... I almost grudingly, reluctantly, go back. I reappear in the Lambda sector, dazed and confused. Not my character, me! I take a super leap back to the main courtyard I freeze in midair, I figured at this point, if I could rotate the camera, this'd be VERY Matrix like, but, I can't actually rotate anything. NExt thing I know I'm back on the floor. I have no idea where I landed, or what my final button pushing did to alter my destination.

Next thing, mission complete choose a reward. Ok, I didn't even get to see Marauder, much less punch him in the face. I didn't kill anything. I felt totally useless to the whole group, no strike that, worse than useless.

I'm not trying to complain just trying to voice my experience in a reasonably tongue in cheek way. But hands down, that lambda was THE WORST experience I have had with City of Heroes, since I began playing almost a year ago.

I thought the complaints had been elucidated quite well through the thread personally, and even the counter arguments.

And when I was talking about "NEED" and "ESSENTIAL" I was referring to shards. Not incarnate abilities. That I didn't make crystal clear I grant, however it is my grievance. I want to progress up the incarnate ladder but I think the system in places a bit tangled and convoluted. Shard drops in particular for me seem to be a tad on the low side which are essential to making other components.
  16. The thing I find most offputting about the incarnate system is the system is long, but getting through it is not made easy at all. Im not saying I want to just walk to complete power, but it would be nice if it was easier to get the shards and threads etc to make your stuff outside of incarnate related content.

I don't mind examplaring, will happily do it, I once examplared my 50 down to level 10 and got a shard or two helping a mate on his new character, but, it just feels too much of a slog, this is stuff you NEED, vital ESSENTIAL stuff that just doesn't seem to drop to you.

I want to do the incarnate content, I want some characters pimped out with max powers, but, others, Im not going to bother incarnating its just too much of a long road to travel down. Also, I think generally, maybe depending on server, getting a villain incarnate can be harder than a hero one, due to hero side being more popular.

Same, this morning before work I did the extract sister jocasta tip mission.

    +1 x 8

ran it on my lvl 50 Tanker Invul / SS, got zip by way of shards.
  18. Is it possible to convert Incarnate Threads into Incarnate Shards?
  19. Will do, not at home now, in work. Mids won't work on these computers so I'll give that a go. In terms of price, well, I'm not too fussed, naturally, Im not spending billions of inf on one recipe, but I should be able to afford something reasonable.
  20. Hi guys,

I got an Empathy / Energy Blast Defender on the up and I really wanted to get him sorted out, now in terms of slotting Empathy, I'm not too sure, so, what I'll do is I'll list the powers and the slots I was thinking of putting in them, and the IO set that takes my fancy for each of them, and if you could offer me some feedback maybe some pointers that'd be grand.

    Healing Aura - 4 slots - Numina's Conv...

    Heal Other - 6 slots - 5 Doctored Wounds / 1 common IO Recharge

    Absorb Pain - 4 slots - Numina's Conv

    Resurrect - 3 slots - Recharge common IO's

Clear Mind - 1 Slot - Reduce Endurance Cost SO or IO

Fortitude - 4 slots - Luck of the Gambler

Recovery Aura - 6 slots - Efficacy Adapter

Regeneration Aura - 5 slots - Doctored Wounds

Adrenalin Boost - 1 slot - Recharge. (Unless adding healing or Endurance based enchancements to it makes a big difference, admitedly, this power I was least sure of what to do with, or rather, had least idea what to do with)

    1 Tanker only

To be fair, this occurence happened very early in the game for me. And It never happened since. I just wondered if you others got hit with this.

In terms of damage its true Tankers don't serve up the same kind of smackdown as other AT's, but having said that, a Tanker with most of their attacks 6 slotted can hit very hard. But where a tanker is most valuable is their ability to engage multiple foes.
  22. BigBoss Eyepatch

    1 Tanker only

Have you ever been in situation where you show up for a TF, and somebody else already has a tanker there, and the team leader is like, oh you'll have to change, we've already got a tank.

I remember long ago, I had my invul / SS and he was level 40, and was my highest level character, and there was an ITF forming. I showed up, chuffed to bits. Well, there happens to be a level 50 Tanker there, also Invulnerable. So naturally, I am requested to not use my Tanker. Yet, and I remember this because I scribbled it down because I was going to tell my mate another CoH player in work and I just found this bit of paper now. There were:

    3 controllers
    2 Scrappers
    1 Blaster
    2 Tankers

So, I remember I had a mini argument, and I basically said, well, you're happy to have 3 controllers, but won't allow a second tanker. I don't understand why I have to change, when going on the figures, asking a controller to change would be more prudent.

So it went back and forth, and I said, I can't do the ITF with anybody else, because this is my highest character and I dropped the team then feeling miserable and rejected. (lol awwwww.)

I see it a lot, people don't seem to want more than one Tanker, but will happily take multiple other AT's. Why is it, there is this "one Tanker only" unwritten rule? I get that DPS wise there are better to be had for sure in melee and ranged. But Tankers are not THAT bad, especially once their big nuke attacks are 6 slotted out and land after a tier 1. I've seen Tankers who readily one shot minions and two and three shotting lieutenants and they are done, are there other "support" AT's that can two shot some lieutenants?

On an 8 hero / villain team, I think having 2 tankers is not bad. I like all the AT's in the game, but for that sheer unstoppable melee feeling, there is NOTHING in CoH IMHO that compares to a tanker.

Well, I wanted the regen bonus from that set that 8% makes a big differnce to my combat ability. Dam/End would have been preferable to help my end issues, but it would have meant paying a lot. Dam/rech was a suitable alternative, and it cost me less any way.

I've been playing for over 3 years now and don't have a single character "all done". Even if you don't count incarnate stuff, I still don't have a single one "all done". Not even the one level-locked at 15 for 18 months.

Muhaha, I will never have to be a philanthropist! I guess it is fitting that 4/5 of my characters are redside.
Well, not counting incarnate content, I have only one character "all done" myself. So he's now a philanthropist, the other characters, are in it for themselves till they are done.

The SINGLE biggest factor in pricing on the Market is the buyer's level of patience. Yes, Manipulators can influence things quite a bit and all of the other factors cited up-thread apply as well. However the MAIN reason anything costs what it costs is that the buyer is willing to pay the asked price.
Last night I ws bidding on two Damage/recharge pounding slugfest recipes. I bid 600,000 inf for each. This was in the morning. Left for work. Came back later after work at about 7pm. Checked. Still bidding, but, there was only 2 people bidding. But 65 for sale. So, I withdrew my 1.2 million inf, and bid instead on a Damage/Endurance pair. Got the two instantly, for 100,000 each.

So it pays to shop around if you are frankenslotting so to speak.

    Quote:
Posit: What if everyone in the Market stopped buying Purple recipes for the asked price and instead put in bids for around 100 million? The sellers would check, see that their recipes haven't sold for days and probably lower the prices a bit. Rinse-repeat until they decide to either sell them for what the Market offers or take them off entirely and use them themselves.
Maybe, but that would take some time, because a lot of sellers would more than likely stick to their guns and not budge on the prices.

Purples are different, you could play for months conceivably and not aquire one through any means beyond the market, the others, like Kinetic combat, Obliteration, reactive armour etc... the pricey but not unicorn like ones, can be obtained in, at best, a matter of hours to a day, at worst, a few days.

I think some purples that go for half a billion are pricey, but, given their rarity, its not unjustified. Its a hell of a lot better than the billions that PvP ones go for, so as far as purples go, got no complaints about their prices. Most purples I don't, and wouldn't want anyway as the bonuses aren't giving me what I need for the character.

    Quote:
Now there is a lower limit to this of course. Nobody is going to sell a purple recipe for 50 Inf unless they're being philanthropic...or a bad typist. However by and large it's the buyers who set the prices...not the sellers.
Of course not, and I agree with the buyers being as much to blame as the sellers, after all I remember a time when inanimate carbon rods were going for 150,000 a piece!

I don't disagree with you, but I do believe there are inconsistencies in prices and such. Some recipes are very expensive due to the demand but...

Some of the high prices IMHO are due to people looking to cash in and they can, because a lot of players simply don't have the patience to earn or achieve the results through play and just want all the cool toys immediately. I can't say I blame them because that's what circumstances are and what they have been allowed to stay as. If I had a kinetic combat or reactive armour recipe I didn't want or need, and it was going for 150 million at cheapest, then, yeah I'd put it in for 150 million myself otherwise, I'm cheating myself out.

Change can be a terrifying thing. But its often needed. I can understand some recipes being very expensive like purples because they are as rare as rocking horse pooh and getting them through alternative means is very hard and thus the market is the best viable route. But as for attaining recipes like Kinetic combats, or obliteration which are traditionally very expensive, these are so easy to get through merits, PROVIDED players are willing to invest the time in playing the game I acheived a full set of Obliteration Recipes without paying for any, it took a bit of effort, about a week and a half in total, but I got them all, and didn't have to part with an insane amount of inf to do it. Architect Entertainment random ticket cashing in, Alignment merits, reward merits. All won't cost you a single inf.

I'm not saying give them away, we know inf is needed for crafting enhancements, and other things, but once you hit level 50, and have your character all done where you want him/her in the enhancment department, IMHO its time for a little bit of philanthropy. My level 50 tanker, I've put recipes in for sale he's picked up for money comparable to what an NPC vendor would give me. A tiny bit more obviously.

I don't expect purples to go for peanuts and given the difficulty in attaining them etc, I'd say their price range as it stands now is about right. But 150 million for kinetic combat? When a single alignment merit will buy it? Crazy. All you gotta do is wait 2 days.

I think the market would benefit from some change. I like to think I do my part to pass on goods back to the community without lining my coffers to the hilts.
