It was on sale for 640pp (20% off) for the first two weeks of CoHF. Now it is regular price but the free PP will get it for you in 2 months, 1.5 if you're a tier 9 VIP.
I'm not necessarily thrilled about having to pay for new power sets, but I also don't necessarily care that much about BR. I will be buying Street Justice when it comes out, but I'm saving PP for just that purpose and don't really see it as an issue.
VIP do get a lot of things for free that Free and Premium players have to pay for, including 400pp/month which effectively lowers the sub price to $10/month ($7 if you pay annually). In fact when you factor in the free monthly server transfer (800pp) and the signature story arcs (400pp) with the free 400pp/month, VIP are actually getting $20 worth of bonus stuff for their $15 subscription.
Does it suck that even VIP have to purchase some of the new powers? Yes.
Are the new powers sets skipable? Absolutely.
Do VIPs have a huge selection of power set options to choose from w/o paying for new sets? Undoubtedly.
Is CoHF without question the the best Freemium MMO release to date? IMO, it is. -
According to the numbers I saw in Mids yesterday Fly and Afterburner will still exceed the new cap with no +Fly enhancement in either. So yeah, use the slots for procs.
-
Yes. I think everyone would be happier if the Targeted Debuff Toggles were changed to Targeted AoE. Even with a fairly high (120+ seconds) recharge they would be less annoying than they are now.
-
Sounds like all the Tier 5 travel pool powers are lacking to some degree. I was afraid LRT was too good to be true and apparently it is.
-
THIS.
I never take the Dark and Storm ones regardless of their usefulness because my team always kills whichever mob I put them on first. Seriously, it's like they have a secondary effect of "ally taunt". The only reason I have any targeted toggles on my Rad/Rad Corruptor is because 1/2 the set is made up of them and some are just too good to pass up.
Make them all Targeted AoE please. -
I agree that the new Tier 5 pool powers are not nearly as exciting as they sounded like they were going to be. However, with that said I still see value to most of them if you've got the room in your build.
Afterburner is pointless. I loved the idea, but don't really have a huge problem with the speed of Fly as is. I may take it on some characters if I have the slot free, but I certainly won't give up anything even remotely useful to get it.
Burnout is something I can see taking on a /regen scrapper or blaster who needs/wants to drop 2 back to back nukes, but the recharge is far too high to make it a must have.
Long Range TP is fairly nice for things like TFs where you have to go from Crey's Folly to Kings Row in short order and could also be useful for a team build that is already intended to be a taxi service. It can really speed things up if you've got a character with Recall Friend already standing at the mission door when the rest of the team Zones. Yet again though, it's not a must have and I will likely be skipping it in most builds.
Spring Attack also does knockdown which is sweet when followed with Foot Stomp and adds some much needed additional PBAoE to my WP/SS tank. I've also made great use of it on my spines/dark scrapper. It's pretty decent when slotted for Rech and Damage. The only real complaint I have is that the range is terrible. You practically have to get close enough to aggro the mob just to use it. Sure the range is Enhanceable, but that's just another slot this pool power is eating that could be better spent elsewhere. If the range were increased by as little as 25% it would be better, and a 50% increase would make it kind of awesome.
Don't hate on Charleston Chew. -
Spines/Dark Scrapper or Bots/Traps MM. I also quite like pretty much any type of brute but SS/SD or SS/FA seem to be popular builds.
-
I'm surprised no one has said Spines/Dark Scrapper yet. It's extremely End heavy but with all the PBAoE and Def/Res v everything I have no trouble soloing anything. It takes a couple of KB procs to be really effective, but other than that I've been running him with basic IOs.
Open with Spring Attack
Spine Burst
ST attack the Lts or Bosses.
Impale them as they run away.
Move on to the next mob. -
My wife has played a Storm/Ice to 50 and she is excellent on teams. With this build, it's not about Hurricane or Tornado so much as having THREE RAINS that all do DoT and Slow. When she drops all 3 she can defeat a big spawn in seconds.
Also, since all the rains are "ice" based, it fits a Winter Fairy concept pretty well. -
You can please some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time... but you can't please all of the people all of the time. As long as there are 2 gamers in the same room/forum/city, one of them will complain about something.
All in all I think i16 is WAY more good than bad. Especially since we don't REALLY know what we're getting until i16 goes into open beta.
Super Sidekicking sounds AWESOME, especially since I have spent the last month recruiting new and returning players and miss playing toons above level 30. Now it doesn't matter what level anyone is, we can all team as we see fit.
I can't wait to change the animations on my Super Strength Tanker. -
Quote:I realize that the "Desdemona looks like Bettie Page" argument has been put to rest, but I felt compelled to point out that the first link in TJ's post is not actually Bettie Page. It is Gretchen Mol http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001543/ as she appeared in the film "The Notorious Bettie Page" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0404802/
That out of the way, I would really like more information on the "morality slider" or whatever the mechanic for switching from hero to villain and vice versa will be.
1. Is it 1 time only or can you constantly slip back and fourth like Magneto or walk the line like Deadpool or Venom.
2. I would hope that super group memebership is not static, as in if you go rogue you are auto-kicked from your group. Dark Phoenix was technically still an X-Man when she was flying around the galaxy killing people... just a bad one. Other examples exist of heroes going through a "dark period" where they were not nice people. It could make for an interesting roleplaying dynamic (if such a thing exists in an MMO) with the former allies attempting to redeem the fallen hero or corrupt a redeemed villian.
Also, DP really needs to be available for at least corruptors, if not defenders as well.
as far as the "Loyalty Program" Closed Beta stuff, I understood it to be thus.
Closed Beta WILL START in mid to late Nov.
Tier 1 will be anyone who has earned the 60 month badge as of Nov 15 (at least I'm hoping that's the case as I will get my 60 month badge on Sept 1 if I remember correctly)
Tier 2 will be anyone who's account was active from July 15 to Nov 15 with no breaks in service (therefore anyone who is paying month to month but paid for July, Aug, Sept, Oct, and Nov would qualify)
Tier 3 beta testing will begin roughly 1 month before launch when preorder becomes available.
I'm not exactly certain, and they didn't have Veteran Reward Badges then, but I seem to remember the CoV beta going something like that.
