Honestly, Castle, with Archery it seems to me that the two biggest problem with the set are too much lethal damage and a lackluster secondary effect. Buffing the acc bonus some and adding in different damage types - like some toxic damage for poison arrowheads or something - would go a long way toward rehabilitating archers.
[/ QUOTE ]
Oh oh... someone's probably already suggested this but:
Replace one of the powers in the set with a utlity power. Using this power would apply a random secondary affect to the arrows.
Example, you use this power and set all your arrows on fire. You use it and add acid or posion for toxic. Etc etc. This could help with the lethal end of it. -
I kinda' like this but how is that being defiant?
See you said it yourself, the devs are happy with it as is.
Your suggestion, while leaving the name totally changes the power and its concept.
The name doesn't make it, what it does makes it. After all, the players changed the name of it to Defiance, that wasn't chosen by the devs.
The power is what it does, not what it's called.
Anyway, defiance sucks. I don't care if the devs are happy with it. I'm a paying player and I'm NOT happy with it. Whatever dev is being the stubborn mule about it needs to get over it, admit (it's a nice concept but) it is flawed in practice and change it to something more useful.
It'd be one thing if it was 1/2 the at's had situational inherints and half didn't, as it is though only a couple AT's have situation inherints 'gimping' them compared to the others.
Khedlian inherints are only good in human forms on teams. This I PERSONALLY don't count because the whole concept behind Kheldians. They were also (IMO) built to support the team mentality being thrown at us all the time by devs.
Blaster: Defiance - while usable on/off a team it's extremely situational and uncontrollable. It doesn't do anything to prevent your death. I can literally count on ONE hand the times defiance has kept me alive. This is counting ALL my blasters. I have 5 of them.
Defender: Vigilance. Useless off a team. Useless if your team is at full health nullifying their inherint.
No one else has an inherint this 'unbalanced'.
All they bloody need to do to fix Defiance is ramp up the scaling. In other words, let it make a difference sooner. Let it make a bigger difference, sooner.
People cried in beta about Scourge. What'd they do? Change it so that it starts kicking in at 50% health at a small percentage increasing from there to like 100% at what, 25% (or is it 10%) health? Before it ONLY kicked in at the 25% (or 10 again I forgot) range. The people cried, the devs listened AND delivered. A lot of people didn't even like scourge. They wanted something more... corrupting. The devs wanted it. There was compromise!
Yet we still get ignored when we say Defiance is inherintly flawed. Where'd the compromise? (DEVS SAY: We like it but here's a bone.) It's a bloody glass nuke. IF you can deliver it it does massive damage but there's as much chance trying to deploy it will kill you too.

That's why I recommend all serious CoX players have catheters. All catheter teams are easily the fastest at S/TFs!!

Don't go AFK in the middle of a Siege fight.
Don't send a tell asking if you did something wrong to get kicked.

actually, i was mysteriously kicked from a team, midmission once. first time it ever happened. i send a tell, asking what i may have done wrong, as i had been playing that char for a while( a brute), and had no complaints up to that point of my 30+ levels. i was told it was because a SG mate wanted on the team.

I mean don't go AFK in the middle of an AV fight and then be stupid enough to ask why you were kicked. -

Don't go for some sort of NFL "And then you fade back and I grab the aggro, the Blaster comes straight up the middle and BU/Aim/Fb/Fb, six points" maneuver when they don't even know what their attacks do yet.

To the person that did this to me in CoV today, in the event he/she recognizes him/herself: You're a bonehead.
If someone has "please send tell first" in the team search comment field, and has lft turned OFF, then a one word tell "team" (without even a question mark) followed IMMEDIATELY by a blind invite, is just plain stupid.
And yes, a one word tell sent sixteen nanoseconds before the invite is still a blind invite.
[/ QUOTE ]
At lest you GOT a word. I had one dip [censored] who just sent emtpy tells then an invite. When I replied asking how much crack he smoked and how that counted as a tell (after declining) he'd send ANOTHER! Oy vey some people. -

I didn't see anything about an influence bank.
Did I miss it? Will I still need to have another player character to transfer funds to my lowbies?
EDIT: Beyond that.... VERY NICE STUFF, Devs

You won't. The devs don't want you twinking your lowbies out with influence like that. -

Making an absolute statement like "Mayhem Missions are versus Longbow" based on a single screen shot is a stretch, to say the least.
From that screen shot, the most you can realistically say is that "IF that is a shot of a Mayhem Mission, then SOME of them will have Longbow in them."
[/ QUOTE ]
QFT - that is just an example of a group that might be in a Mayhem Mish.
Anyway, most of the mayhem missions will be in Oranbega...

I PM'd Castle about a week or two ago.
He's pretty busy with Blasters.
[/ QUOTE ]
Howabout some other devs? Hope he's sharing the burden if he can at all.
Anyways, I hope he has some news soon. I'm pretty sure the devs are aware that there are imbalances with Blaster primaries and secondaries, I just hope they care enough to fix 'em in a timely fashion, and open-minded enough to think that they should at all!
[/ QUOTE ]
I PM'ed Geko maybe... 3 or 4 months ago asking him if he could post where they were at on looking at Blaster Secondaries (high/low priority, if anything was being done yet etc.) No reply... is it true he turned off PMs?
[/ QUOTE ]
Last time I tried PM'ing him he wasn't taking them... this was a while ago though. Can't say anything about now. -

Responses from an Elec/Elec/Elec blaster.
First off, love a lot of what you said. Can't comment on most of the other pools because I was very limited in my playing hours for a whole year and only played my primary for the most part.
[ QUOTE ][*]Elec: Lightning Field - This changes from a PBAE damage aura to an Enemy Targeted Damage Aura (similar to Defender EF and DN) (2)
[/ QUOTE ]
Disagree. One PBAOE toggle for damage isn't bad. And while I don't do PVP much, if I ever decide to go PVP crazy, I might want this power with 3 ACCs in it to try to protect me from stalkers...
[/ QUOTE ]
It's only good vs stalkers who are too 'stupid' to account for AoE auras in their builds. Unfortunately because it needs a to-hit check it's easy enough for stalkers to stack defenses.
It's kinda' like wearing a kevlar vest that's only 10% finished. It'll block a couple bullets but you can't count on it to save yer butt.
That being said I'd gladly sacrafice it in its current form for toggled DoT targetted aura.
Keeping it as is (a very weak, high endurance PBAoE) for the singular use of MAYBE stopping a stalker wouldn't justify not changing it IMO. -
Witty, good ideas however States already said the melee attacks aren't going anywhere.
We're also trying to devise changes that won't gimp our mentally impaired blapping brothers. -
[ QUOTE ]
I wonder if it would be possible to do something else for Blasters. Well, not just Blasters, but any AT really.
Each time an attack is queued and released, the user of said attack gains a small resistance to the damage type of that power. Power Pool powers, Brawl, and temporary powers are not eligible. The buff starts at the activation time and ends once the animation is complete. The resistance doesn't have to be high, but noticeable say 4%.
Since the overlap is almost negligeable, attack combinations really won't stack resistances, but steady attack streams may provide a continuous buff during the cycle.
[/ QUOTE ]
Wouldn't fix blasters but that brings up another issue I have. I have all 3 ele blaster powers yet I have no inherint resistance or defense against ele? Come on.
I'm amazed charged armor doesn't DoT me while it's on. ::snicker::
But that's for another thread... -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
I suspect that thinking like this is why he said that SOME of the ideas might work and others definitely will NOT work.
[/ QUOTE ]
No, more like:
1: allowing a Blaster to put a ranged DoT toggle on a mob can allow you to risk-free kite a +4 boss around some indoor areas just by circling some large central blocking item. Or to DoT a SR Stalker who can't drop into Hide, and whose defense is useless (though I suppose they could make the DoT have to roll to hit).
[/ QUOTE ]
Dude the time it would take them to get away with that they could EASILY earn more exp hunting crap closer to their own level.
As for the stalker... he'd have to hit us and hopefully get a stun. It's part of PvP. Just like stalkers don't think it's a big deal that people have to have a specific build to fight them...
[ QUOTE ]
Possible solutions, BTW:
1: make all ranged attacks from the secondaries use animations such at the throwing animation from Impale, thus the slower animation makes them less effective at burst damage in PvP. Or at least have them fire fast, and block new powers for a second after. Anything that prevents them from creating a ranged one-cycle squishy killer.
[/ QUOTE ]
Stalkers... brutes, properly built slotted tanks, scrappers... all of these are easily squishy killers. The only difference being they need to get close.
[ QUOTE ]
2: make the toggle DoTs roll to hit, and have relatively short range... not just to apply, but have them drop the toggle if you go too far. Most of the exploits I can think of with them involve the extended range at which a toggle will remain, compared to the range at which you can apply it. For example, putting a DoT toggle on a boss, then Flying over their heads out of shooting range.
[/ QUOTE ]
Why should it be any shorter than any of the other targetted toggles?
And again... someone'd need to be pretty lame to go that route. Did I miss something in the thread? Are we asking the ranged DoT toggled field be uber or something where hovering over a +4 boss and waiting for our DoT to whittle away his health is a viable form of gaining exp?
Seriously dude... not trying to bust your chops but the idea of it just makes me want to gouge my eyes out. Like I said above... whatever exp I can get from 'field exploiting' on the boss... I can get FASTER by fighitng things closer to my level. -

Brahma, sink is an EXCEPTIONAL power. I go from just enough to trigger it to full endurance in one shot.
Thunderous Blast... catch a breath, sink off any survivors and voila. A 'free' TB. Also (mind you this is pre-end-nerf) TB could almost if not completely drain almost any of those who survived in the group. Drop my sink to recharge and nothing had any end left.
It really is a great utlity power. Where conserve makes your endurance last longer, sink gives it all back to you with the added bonus of draining enemies (assuming they fix that.)
That's NOT a power I'd want to see taken away.
[/ QUOTE ]
True and I agree to that. I've never had sink, but most people I know try it for a couple of lvls and think it's okay, but not uberrific. With Conserve Power I can drop a nova, pop a blue hit Conserve, and I'm back in action. I've been doing it the same way since the changes, and IMO it's still better then sink. But hey, we all have our favorites. So what about the other things I forementioned?
[/ QUOTE ]
I think a lot of energy's utlity powers are underrated.
The problem I see with them is duration. (The following is MY take on it and not necessarily correct for anyone elsePeople play blasters to blast (or blap.) Having that many click/short term/buffs is more of a slowdown. They end up getting viewed as situational powers and at that point can become a burden. "Meh, why would I take boost range when I can take this?", this being another attack, or say stealth or something.
All the powers that boost like this DO suit a purpose and are great. (I swear by power boost on my dominator. PB/Domination = perma-froze mobs.) However, despite how quickly you can make it recharge it's still so short lasting... it's like by the time you trigger all your boosts some of them are already expired.
Anyway, that's how I feel about it and (maybe) how some others do and that's why I think they're underrated. -

Please just ignore them. Really blasters have a couple main issues that dont require totally ruining the sets as these few posters that keep reguritating the same ideas to change blasters to THEIR ideals keep posting.

'the project is over" thingy doesn't seem quite right...afterall the "project" was the biggest thing done to CoH since the launch....why wouldnt these two be staying on fulltime....?

Wolf, NC is publishing quite a few games inculding Tabula Rasa and Auto Assault. These might have been short term assignments for them and they're moving to other assignments on either of those games.
Besides, it's been 4 months since Villains release. Things have died down a bit. -

but it really got to me the way some of you were talking back to SOCKER. His original reply got flamed to all hell and back and not one person thought, well hey, maybe he sees something we don't and that makes him think the way he does.
[/ QUOTE ]
No you're not going to get yelled at, you're going to get advised of three facts:
1) BOTH Pilcrow and I said that his initial response was NOT helpful, if he was going to say they're 'fine' he needed to expand upon that. WHAT in his eyes makes them fine? We BOTH asked that.
2) His posting here is self serving. If you look at his other posts in other threads, he's got a real thing for blappers right now. Based on his replies in THIS thread I can comfortably surmise that he thinks what we're looking for is going to end up gimping him as a blapper.
3) His PERSONAL experience with a blaster is limited. My main is a blaster and I've played him regularly since I've had this game. I think he (my blaster) could use some love and yes I'm a little irked that someone who's only experience with blasters is teaming and a level 20 is going to tell me my blaster is fine.
