  1. A "Simulation," "Challenge," or "Test" tag sounds good (tho, we already have a Challenging tag)

    But definitely no to "Farm."
  2. I remember this one, great dialogue and an interesting "What if" look at the Clock King since there is a bit of debate on CK's age. Was a good challenge and an emotional story!

Congrats! Very deserving of Dev Choice!
  3. Interesting proposal, but there's a big difference between the Devs understanding that a certain amount of players are going to use AE to farm and supporting that desire.

By making a Farm tag the Devs would, essentially, legitimize the behavior and, thus, encourage it. I doubt that's something they want to do.

Plus, it does nothing to quell the multitude of existing & abandonded farms that will still pop up in general searches.
  4. Very sad.

I have at least 4 level 50s that are only slotted with SOs and maybe a couple HOs and they never have problems getting on any TF or PuG.

Besides, anyone that wouldn't take them on their team is someone I wouldn't want to play with anyway.
  5. We've had some good discussion about what's wrong with the MA ratings/Search and come up with some great solutions in this thread.

My favorite idea was moving all the Dev Choice/HoF to a separate tab and making the main search page a mix of a few random Dev Choice, HoF, 5 star, & 4 star arcs so it's always fresh, with new content, and not always the same Dev/HoF arcs.

As it is, MA has the appearance of being stale. Since there's so many Dev Choice arcs, it's always, pretty much, the same ones up front. There's tons of new and exciting content that most players never know is out there.
  6. Great read, anyone know the Arc# of that Space Marine arc he mentioned?

This part, kind of concerned me, tho:

We also have a hall of fame system, where the stuff has been played a lot gets pushed to the top, as well. And that primarily is about filtering the content to what the player wants to get access to. And if somebody wants access to stuff that really isn’t creative, you just have to look for it.
I'm hoping he's not satisfied with how the rating system and MA search tool works, as recently, a farm actually made Hall of Fame before being reported.

By the nature of the system, most of the "good" content is actually lost deep in the 4 star arc pages.

Hehe, actually, Doc is the arc AFTER Penny. If you had it at level 15 you probably earned it by completing a different player's time travel arc.
  8. Yeah, coming from the lead animator, that's fantastic news!

    4. Quit mission/task force.

    Genius!!!

    *Yoink!*

Actually, it's from Doc Delilah, and you have to be level 20 or 21 to get her missions, IIRC.

Penny's arc unlocks the SO store in Faultline, and gives you access to a limited number of SOs you can slot as low as level 10 (vs lvl 25 for standard SOs.)
  11. I've got a quickie, 1 mission story for ya. If you like anime (and the comedy AzuManga Daioh in particular) you should get a good kick out of this one.

Everything should be giving full xp, I've updated it a couple times since the last issue. It now has penguins!

    Enter the Father Hat Gang
    Arc #21391
  12. Well, he interviewed Dev choice winners and Dr Aeon, himself. I think that more than counts as doing the homework. Plus, it wasn't an article on the MA community, it was about the system, itself, so you really shouldn't knock him for his interview choices.

It's actually a pretty good piece, especially for those that haven't played the game or tried MA. And I expect that's the audience the article was targetted at.

I really liked the bit from Dr Aeon. Gives me hope that the search UI will get an eventual upgrade and we'll get more toys to play with:

The system could use some improvement, though. Many of the authors I spoke with cited the need for improved map utilities, as well as the ability to create branching missions. Thankfully, the developers are listening. "I am always looking at ways we can make life easier for players in the Architect," says McCann. A former player himself, he's committed to making sure the most dedicated authors get the attention they deserve. "I want to give any player who receives a Dev Choice award their own day in the spotlight. I want to take the time to give each player that receives Dev Choice their moment - and to also show other authors quality content that can be used to help themselves out."
  13. Yikes, cutting it close to the Mr & Mrs Paragon City finals on test tonight. Hope the maint. doesn't have any complications that make it run over.
    • When you get an introduction mission, you do not have to take a mission from the person you're introduced to ie. Wincott in the Hollows or Peebles in Striga. Simply click on them to complete the introduction and return to your original contact for further missions, without asking them about missions.

If you ask about missions from one of the new zone contacts, they'll immediately open a story arc that stays open until you complete it. This can come back to haunt you later as there is a limit to the number of open story arcs you can have at one time and story arcs are level capped, so doing the arc at later levels often means fighting greys.

    • The only heroside Giant Monster that does not reward a badge is the Clockwork Paladin in Kings Row. You earn this badge by preventing his creation. If you fail, then he spawns and rewards inf, xp, and merits for his defeat...no badge.

Sadly, the only reward for preventing his creation IS the badge, which is why he's often seen stomping around High Park with a couple duplicate buddies.

    • In the university tutorial you can earn a free Luck Charm salvage (easy Inf on the market) by choosing to craft the Accuracy IO and either dropping the mission to craft it or crafting a different item that you have the recipe & cheaper salvage for.

    • You can earn credit for the Gravedigger badge if you do any amount of damage to an Embalmed Vahz before he blows himself up. This also counts towards "defeat X Vazhilok" missions.

    • Easy DE to find & defeat for the Aura mission are Swarms in Crey's Folly. Found close to the entrance and away from most other groups.

    • Circle of Thorns spawn in higher numbers on the rooftops at night in Kings Row.

    • Vazhilok spawn in higher numbers at night in Faultline.
  14. Great job, particularly liked Infernal and Faultline's segements
  15. Hmmm...not working for me. I'm using Firefox with ad blocker plus if that makes a diff. The site comes up, but no results show.
  16. I'm still unclear on what text fighting is. I checked urbandictionary.com and they only have 1 version...and it involves cell phones.

Sure glad I still have tokens for those toons I moved to Virtue, because those toons are gonna be coming back to Justice.

All this time I thought the only thing that was going on over there was ERP.
  17. Awesome! A very deserving arc that highlights a unique AE mechanic and actually has a good story. Gratz Bubba!
  18. I'm having the same problem. Been trying to copy an alt over all weekend and no luck. Tool says it's in the process but character never arrives.
  19. Is it dead again? Been trying to transfer an alt over all weekend and no luck.

edit: works now, after Avatea restarted the tool. Thanks!

If anything, the first page should be a random assortment chosen from the arcs in the system. My idea would be something like: 1 random Guest Author, 1 random HoF, 1 random DC, 4 random 5-star arcs, and 4 random 4-star arcs.
I think this idea, alone, would do a world of good without having to rework the entire rating system. As others have pointed out, it's not so much the rating system as the search function that fails.

This would keep everything on the front page fresh and give decent exposure to 4 star arcs, as well.

Laz's other suggestions are top-notch, too (esp weighting by the number of rates), but that would just be icing on the cake to this.
  21. WN, this is a great topic for discussion as we've already seen that everyone has a different standard of rating stars. In the spirit of making this productive, what solutions are on the table to solve the problem?

I saw Zamuel had a suggestion. Any others?
  22. What a cute way to make that announcement. Congrats!
  23. This sounds like a lot of fun! I look forward to playing them
