Last Saturday the MA Superteam theme was Hot Off the Press! where we randomly chose arcs from the latest AE forum's arc announcement thread.
My theory was that if authors were promoting their arcs in the official thread, they'd likely be well-tuned and better than average stories! Well...out of the 4 arcs we chose only 2 of them were "finished" arcs. 1 arc didn't exist anymore and another was so much a 'work in progress' it didn't even have a real contact! (so much for that theory) >.<
That aside, we did manage to play thru a couple:
Tales From A Scorched Earth: Kali's Scythe, ID #445456 by @Zaphir
4 mission arc, Heroic
Cadence, ID #466154 by @Para Omni
3 mission arc, Neutral
Next Saturday (12/11/10): it's a Player's Choice Party! Bubbawheat is going to lead us thru a couple finalists' arcs in this year's Players' Choice awards. Should be a good time with really good arcs. Come join the fun!
Kali's Scythe was a unique post-apocalyptic look at Paragon City by recent Dev Choice winning author, @Zaphir. The story was richly detailed with clues and dialogue. If you like an arc with a bit darker tone or one that plays more like a graphic novel, put it on your list.
Cadence felt like an author's first attempt at an arc. I'm sure the author has the characters and plot fully realized in his/her head, but it just didn't transfer to the arc. This'd be a good one to run thru solo and give constructive feedback on. -

This saturday morning the MA Superteam is going to choose their arcs randomly from the 20 most recent Announcement thread entries.
If you've got a new arc that needs plays or have recently updated an old one, post it today! -
Welcome to the game and AE.
I couldn't help but notice you said nothing about "good stories" in your OP. AE is not an engine for quick/easy xp. It's a way for players to tell their own stories or add to the existing canon of the game.
If you want to level up quickly, then simply find or form a team and run regular missions from regular contacts. The xp and rewards come fast and easy that way.
Good luck and if you ever want to find some AE missions that are fun because of the story, then please come back. We know TONS. -
Last weekend the MA Superteam took a holiday, but vacation time is over!!
Next Saturday's theme (12/4/10) is: Hot Off the Press!!
We'll pool the last 20 arcs posted to the Announce You Latest Creation thread and roll a d20 to see what arc we play!
If you've got an arc that you haven't posted yet, add it to the thread by Saturday for a chance to get some plays and good feeback!
If you've never run with the MA Superteam, this'll be a great time to see what we're all about. All levels and ATs are welcome to join in the fun! Hope to see ya there! -
No group last week, eh? That's okay, I guess even the MA Superteam needs a holiday every once in a while.
But vacation time is over!!

Just remember, there are limits to bacon's coolness. Not all bacon is win...

Thanksgiving trip spilled into the weekend so I missed this week's MA run (as predicted.) Did anyone meet up anyway? What arcs did you play?

Presentation of Mission Text to all team members
Problem: When running on a team only the leader has access to the contact's bio, busy text, and debriefing dialogue. In order for the team to completely follow the story the leader has to copy/paste the text into chat for the rest of the team to follow along. Copy/Pasting is character limited by chat so it often takes multiple copy/pastes to pass the info along to the rest of the group.
Solution: Make the text available to all members of a team, either via a new tab that is active for AE missions or make the contact interactive with all team members but actual mission decisions only apply from the leader. -
Quote:This weekend the MA Superteam ran thru the arc as part of our Collaboration Week theme! We're so glad you're including the AE in your event and here's the notes I took while running thru itThe AE Arc is up and running. Arc-related contest drawings in porocess!
Mission 1:
Contact's bio/background is missing
Briefing clue is uneeded, just repeats the mission txt (same with the following mishes)
Basic mission motivation is good, but could be more personal. Why did Mr W pick ME for this mish as opposed to the thousands of others?
Slay Belle (love that name!) bio/background is missing
Why 12 bombs? So many objectives on the first mish (of 5) makes the arc start off slow and grindy, esp on the open boat map. Maybe lower the # of objectives and put it on a small map so the action starts fast and fun!
Mission 2:
Typo: Briefing txt- Kings Row (no apostrophe)
Nav Bar Objective overload! Group the objectives with generic nav bar terms so they don't turn the nav bar into a novel
LOVE LOVE LOVE the ambush dialogue
Mission 3:
Clean up nav bar objectives again
Typo: Nav Bar objective- Charity Worker
Typo: Charity Worker rescue dialogue- twisted
Mission 4:
Great dialogue throughout this whole mission
Mission 5:
Typo: Mission briefing- Oranbega
Typo: Goldleaf bio- friend
Elvish really really really needs a bio/background (best. costume. ever!)
Mission Debrief was missing. Should have something in there to sum up the adventure, it needs closure.
Other notes:
You may want to add the contest details to mission 1's briefing clue, the mission text, or into the mission description (that you read on the AE computer.) It was only luck that someone checked the Arc Souvenir and found details on how to enter the drawing and at that point all clues were removed from the clue tab since the mission is over. Luckily, I wrote them down as we went along.
While custom enemy group looks great they can hit pretty hard. Our tank faceplanted a few times to something with Build Up, always a tough power to balance on customs. We played as a nearly full team and only had a few defeats, not sure how balanced it is for soloers.
The arc gets very repetitive. You may want to see if you can tell the same story in 4 missions (Mission 1 was pretty much fluff) or swap out Anti-Claus in each mission with a diff boss so you build up to a fight with Anti-Claus as opposed to fight him over and over. When you've beat the big bad 4 times already, it's Anti-Climactic to beat him in the end. On the other hand, Fruitcake (genius btw) would make the perfect villain to fight over and over ;P
I hope these notes help a bit. We had a good time running thru the arc and wish you the best of luck with your festivities! -
Had a great time Saturday with a good turnout! This week's theme was Collaboration! The MA Superteam ran thru 2 recent high-profile arcs that bring people together in one way or another:
The Power Armor Fashion Showdown, ID #468404 by @Dr. Aeon
1 mission arc, Heroic
Real World Hero, ID #468971 by @Hercules
5 mission arc, Neutral
Next Saturday (11/27/10): Due to holidays and travel and such I may not be able to attend but the MA Superteam will be meeting as usual for Random Fun! That's right, there's no plan but there's sure to be FUN! Hope you all have a happy Turkey day!
The Power Armor Fashion Showdown is the Community Collaboration arc that was made in just 1 hour with the help of attendees at the recent CoH Meet & Greet. An interesting experiment in what player/dev collaboration (and likely too much alcohol) can create in the MA.
While I applaud the spirit behind the arc, the execution was...lacking. Still, I don't know if I could make something better with just 1 hour.
The other arc, Real World Hero, is part of a community effort to raise real world money for those in need during the holidays. Last year, the CoH community raised over $10,000 for Real World charities! This year they hope to raise even more, in part with the awareness and fun generated by this arc. (also, there's a weekly contest for players of the arc where you can win in-game loot! Pay attention to your clues and read the Arc Souvenir at the end for details)
Though the arc is marked as "in progress" and there are little things that need to be fixed up in every mish, the overall experience is solid. There's colorful costumes, sharp, "punny" dialogue, and a good message! A good arc to kick off the spirit of the giving season. And hopefully player input will just make it better. -

I choose YOU, Dalghryn! See ya at the RWZ AE on Triumph this saturday
-
Curse you lizard man!! I hadn't experienced the bug for weeks and seeing your thread jinxed it!
I have noticed it only seems to log me out on days when I venture into the Annoucements section or the Going Rogue subforum. But that may just be coincidence. -
Great job as usual, 'Ko!
Loved the underwater shot and the pacing was spot on -
We had a fun run last Saturday with the MA Superteam! The week's theme was One Mish Wonders! We ran 3 member-favorite arcs that were just 1 mission each:
Don't Freak, ID #384769 by @Gypsy Rose
1 mission arc, Heroic
Big In Sumeria, ID #328391 by @Witch Engine
1 mission arc, Heroic
Crisis at Talos Towers, ID #448216 by @PW
1 mission arc, Heroic
All 3 arcs were very creative and full of memorable dialogue, characters and fun!
Don't Freak is an action-oriented comedy with fantastic word play.
Next Saturday (11/20/10): We're plucking an arc out of the CoH headlines and playing The First Ever Community Collaborated MA Mission! Straight from this year's meet & greet to your mission list! Join us for another fun run on the MA Superteam!
Big In Sumeria is a comedy homage to Ghostbusters, chock full of in-jokes...for both Ghostbuster AND CoH fans!
And Crisis at Talos Towers is a pulse-pounding and heart-wrenching tribute to first responders everywhere with an amazingly creative tie-in to real world events and the CoH setting.
Note: Big In Sumeria had a mechanical bug and some enemy groups did not drop rewards. Hopefully the author updates the custom enemy groups so they are valid and give full rewards because the mission is an absolute riot with that one exception. -

NOOOoooOOooOOooo!! Ultimate Spidey is the only good one left!
-
Why did we not think of this before? You are awesome, Bubba
-
Don't know how long this will last, but Amazon's selling CoH for $1! Worth it for cheap presents and, of course, the 30 day code
-
Since when does Batman drink Slim FastĀ®?!?
Now, maybe, EnsureĀ® I'd believe... -
Actually, it's just the name, "Spider-Man" that's dying. Pete's saved up for a rename token and is finally dropping the hypen!!

Today's MA Superteam meeting was a quick, fun run! This week's theme was Make or Break! We ran 2 random Final or LF Feedback arcs that were rated at 5 stars with 10 plays or less:
Shadows of Illusion, ID #1137 by @Ebonith
4 mission arc, Heroic
By Any Other Name, ID #398110 by @Fetch
3 mission arc, Heroic
We had one Make! and one Break! this run.
By Any Other Name was a definite "Make!" A simple, fast paced, action-oriented arc that tied perfectly into game lore and really felt heroic.
On the other hand, Shadows of Illusion was a solid "Break!" A good original concept but riddled with flaws...lack of motivations for players and npcs, numerous typos, and misplaced character backgrounds to a fairly predictable twist/ending.
But don't take my word for it, Make or Break! these arcs yourself!
Next week (11/13/10): Bring your fav list and be ready for some fast-paced action with One Mission Wonders! We'll pick a few one-mission arcs from attendees' 'Best of' lists and give 'em a play. Jot down your favorite One Mission Wonder and join in the fun! -

That's well and good when you've got a local understanding with the police, but he just went GLOBAL. And he's rich. No way can the local authorities look the other way now. My suspension of disbelief can only handle so much...
