I agree, if you have the right team go for Primal first.

But, in my experience, if your team is struggling or not one of those equipped to hold/debuff Primal enough, it is better to defeat Praetorian Duray first and let him respawn as an EB.

His added aggro/spillover damage as an AV winds up being just enough to keep a marginal team from finishing off Primal before he gets all TP happy. When Prae's an EB, the team can handle the spill-over better and focus on Primal to take him down.
  2. Now, to answer my own questions:

    1) I'd like to keep Ænvading. Hopping around and meeting new players is fun, refreshing, and helps build up a community of AE players & authors. I don't see a great need to have SGs and bases. While they are convenient at times, most of us have solo SGs and can outfit ourselves pretty well via the gleemail system and WWs.

    2) Sorry Supa, but I'd choose Infinity (just barely) over Guardian. Infinity was one of the most welcoming servers, is the "home" of many PERC members, and their population is regularly in the top 5.

    3) I like our Sunday timeslot where it is. I live on the West Coast and find it very convenient as we're done by lunch so I still have half a day to do other RL stuff (if desired.) For east coasters, it's over before dinnertime so they're not up too late on a work night. It's worked for 2+years, I say it ain't broke!

    4) I'm not opposed to a 2nd meet, but I prefer to keep the core timeslot on Sunday mornings and will likely not be available for the 2nd team.
  3. Good ideas all, now lets start narrowing this down to it's core.

    ?nvasion Plans

We had higher levels on team 1 and they were still quite the challenge. Just too much stuff stacking too quickly that can easily overwhelm a team. The enemies, ambushes and final outdoor map really dragged down the experience of the arc for us. But I agree, it had a solid story behind it, group mechanics just broke it is all.

On a diff subject, there was mention of running an Ænvasion on Triumph, Sunday the 26th. I think this'd be a great idea but I'll be unavailable that weekend. Who wants to be Æmbassador for it? I'll add it to the OP schedule.
  5. As we near the end of our Ænvasion event, people are wondering what the AE Storyteam is going to do next? There's been a few suggestions put out already and it's probably time we hammer out a plan. I'll start it off with what I've rec'd so far as suggestions:
    1) Relocate

As you know, one of the goals of the Ænvasion was to scout servers outside of Triumph for a possible relocation. Based on Ænvasion feedback/participation, Infinity or Guardian look like great candidates for a server relocation.

    2) Continue Ænvading

One suggestion is that we simply don't have a home server! Many of the servers we have visited have expressed interest in having us return on a regular basis and some members have really liked meeting and playing with new people each week. I have to admit, it is exciting and inspiring when someone new 'gets' what we're doing and joins in the fun.

    3) Combo: new home & Ænvade

It's been suggested that we pick a home server to play on Saturdays and then Ænvade on Sundays, too. Personally, I don't have a schedule that'd work with that but it's an option the rest of you can decide on. Note: this is similar to what we did early with the Storyteam and we saw some players burnout from running twice/week, but it did open up the team to players who aren't avail on 1 particular day.

    4) Return to Triumph

We could simply go back to doing what we were doing on Triumph, before the Ænvasion, and hop servers on occasion as we feel like. We do have a sweet base on there, both red and blueside, even tho some of us have their own SGs.

    5) Open to other suggestions

Have another idea to toss in? Let's hear it!

Please discuss the suggestions you like and tell us why. In a week or so we can hopefully come to some kind of consensus or put it to a vote. I look forward to seeing what you all like and come up with! The AE Storyteam continues to be the highlight of my gaming week!
  6. A huge "thank you" to everyone who came to this week's Ænvasion! We had more players show up than I expected and team 2 couldn't have survived without your gracious help. Hopefully our core group will have higher level alts here for our next event! I hope you all had as much fun as we did

    Now, onto the recap:

Week 9's Ænvasion of Protector was punkadelic! Nearly 2 full teams of players showed up for a right good AE steampunk romp!

This week I wanted to get back to something AE Storyteam does regularly: pick arcs from a topical theme. Seeing as how the Steampunk Booster was recently released, it was an opportunity I couldn't pass up to check out what kind of steampunk arcs I could find in AE. Out of about 20 tested arcs, I found 3 that stood out.

Mechaneezer Scrooge is a 1 mission action arc that expands the classic Christmas Carol story with a steampunk twist. The customs can be challenging on a full team, but the costumes, bios, and dialog make this an enjoyable quickie. MOST CHRISTMAS-Y

The Steamworks Begin is a very unique arc, in that it serves as a transition for an otherworldly steampunk hero's introduction to Paragon City and it's just a well detailed steampunk story! Spot on dialog, beautiful customs, great map selection, and well-balanced enemies (if not a bit heavy on end drain) made this one BEST OVERALL for the week! Best of all, it's designed for lowbies up to lvl 20, so very accessible to almost all players!

Our final arc, Urban Renewal, is one of those arcs that plays well solo, but not so much on a team. The story is much more of a traditional, canon type arc pitting your character against a unique branch of Nemesis troops.

The customs on this arc take full advantage of the Steampunk Booster and everyone agreed, they were gorgeous and had great bios. The problem is, on a large group they become waaaay overpowered with multiple MM mobs that heal each other and vengeance being tossed all around. Ouch. Aside from the unbalanced customs, there is a fun story, memorable characters and gorgeous enemies that mesh well with canon. Definitely worth a play with 1 or 2 buddies! BEST LOOKING CUSTOMS
Many thanks to the players of Protector for slugging it out with us...esp on that last mish! You get the NEVER SAY DIE award and my undying gratitude for not burning me on the spit! Thanks!

Next Sunday (6/19/11): the Ænvasion! continues!! Join us on Freedom Server at the AE Building in Rikti War Zone at our regular time: 9am Pacific/noon Eastern. I'm thinking it may be time to run a Hunt for Hall of Fame week again! Remember, all levels and ATs are welcome, so feel free to make an alt and join the Ænvasion!

    Monster Tuesday

This was a fun get together even tho I showed up halfway thru due to WST. Next time you run heroside you really should end with a Mothership Raid to beat down the rikti GM, too. It'd be a great wrap-up for a fun event

    But...but...tuesdays are WST night.
  21. With the release of the Steampunk booster I'm itching to play some steampunk-themed stories (Nemesis ouro arcs don't count.) And since there's no Victorian Paragon City zone I was wondering if anyone has made one or is working on one in AE?

I've run a few searches but only a couple show up and most of them are old and currently invalid.

If you've got a good steampunk yarn, please share it here!

  23. It looks unfinished. It either needs a voice over or more of a dialog thread interspersed between the video shots. A lot of the shots "linger" and the whole thing could be tightened up.

I liked the film/grain effect on the open. To get the 'grindhouse' feel, I'd keep it throughout and add in some jump-cuts and film burn-thru's with a movie projecter sound effect.

Heh, you could even add a MST3K-esque silouhette to the bottom of it for more b-movie schlockiness!
