Quote:If a person previously had an account for 6 months to a year I would have no issue with giving them SOME chat capability right off the bat.If someone talks about free players one more time I'm going to blow my fuse and get banned.
I'm talking about PREMIUM players! READ!
NOT someone who just made account for a week or less. -
Quote:I don't believe the bolded in any way shape or form.Paraphrased for the 'net as: "Bad posting drives out the good." Sometimes, though, the reverse is true. While a new unmoderated F2P channel would probably swiftly devolve into Barrens Chat, a usefully functioning /help channel would be enough of a resource to maintain its integrity if dedicated players contributed. The Fr00bs would flock to the former, while the more serious players would be able to make better use of the latter.
For one, what would be the incentive to move form the help channel which they are currently ALREADY using? -
Quote:Logic doesn't stop RMTers. Back when they were at their prime it was STILL stupendously easy to self pl and self raise inf. The market and IOS were introduced back in ISSUE 9, yet there was still ENORMOUS RMT until the devs did something about it.Maybe its me not having played all 7 years but just a few months here and there yet still adding up to 3 years time, However I just cant believe the devs are the ones wholly responsible for (as someone stated above) curbing RMTs from this game.
I came back on GR release after playing a few months here and there since launch. Let me just say that the IO system complete scared me and left me feeling so incapable of amassing the necessary means to achieve the outcome I so desired for my character. But after some google search fu-ing in a matter of weeks i was able to amass more than enough inf to trick out my character. And that just made me thirst for more.
Honestly its redic easy to make inf in this game. Farmers are not competing with each other for drops, Unlike other games where farmers are competing with othe farmers and BOTs for resources.
Like i said I came back after issue 18 but of the few influence spams ive seen its what 1 bil for 6-7 dollars? 6-7 dollars in other games is not considered half of the total they can ever earn. I really do believe its just not worth it when everyone and their mother has the ability to make SELF PL and SELF "trick" out (on just measly SOs) a SS/FIRE/MU brute!!!
Whether it's profitable or not is irrelevant to RMTers.
And irrelevant to whether we would get more spam than we do now.
I'm actually surprised that EMAIL spam hasn't picked back up. But it could be it's easier to block email spam without the devs putting in any draconian blocks on THAT system.
BUT for some time even RMT email spam was high. I have some older characters that have over 100 emails with nothing but email spam. If you'd like I'll take a screen shot and send to you.
Bottom line RMTers don't care about how profitable it is, they will send out their marketing messages no matter what. Period. -
Quote:Actually enticing people to come and spend money is pretty much secondary.Do you honestly not understand that preventing free players from meaningfully interacting with other players is going to mean that they come into the game, think "well this isn't fun, I can't play with anyone," and leave?
The point of a F2P system is to ENTICE people to come and spend money on the game.
Not to provide a lower class that people like you can look down their nose at and say "ugh, why give them anything, they're a dirty freem."
Getting more from their subscribers and using that to provide more for their subscribers is primary.
Unlike they ones who run companies like SOE, taking care of their existing playerbase instead of chasing a new one all the time, is of most importance to NCSoft/PS.
That said I'm all for some sort of compromise. -
Quote:Uhh isn't what you quoted basically Zwill saying that in this case it IS MMORPG stipulating the restriction? Or am I just reading too much into what Zwill state?I'm a long time reader of MMORPG.com who doesn't live in North America and still won a couple of competitions there, one of which was a physical product (a book), and one or two game codes, and so I find it hard to believe that it's the site that's limiting the competition. Some years have passed since I won, but I still see competitions there which aren't region limited, so I don't think there has been a major rules change.
Also, MMORPG.com is currently offering a free 30 day jetpack code to both US and EU players, which means that NCsoft can give non-US players something via that site.
It's entirely possible that there are MMORPG.com regulations which indirectly make it impossible for NCsoft to offer the prize internationally, but it would still be something related to NCsoft itself, considering that other companies can and do offer prizes to the entire MMORPG.com readership. -
Quote:The restrictions are in place to prevent RMT, not to force folks to buy conveniences or spend money. This is an excellent point. MMOs are not renowned for their single-player gameplay and as a single-player game do not hold up very well.
The amount of minor, annoying restrictions placed in the way of F2P players is frankly embarassing. Surely there's enough content in the game that the developers can entice people to pay with that, instead of forcing people to buy the most basic of conveniences?
They've stated that they will always protect their VIPs from RMT first, as this being a game based on subscriptions is their FIRST primary focus. Not the f2p game.
With that said there should be some compromises made.
My suggestion: allow F2p players all chat access, BUT by default all VIP players have chat access from f2pers off. If the VIPers want to hear/talk to the F2p people then they need to go turn it on. -
Uhhh, his original post was not clear at all. Had others not figured it out I still wouldn't know what the hell he was talking about.

Quote:There used to be a time when there were no restrictions on trial accounts. RMTers took SIGNIFICANT advantage of that, which lead to many of the restrictions on the old trial accounts.I find that claim a bit hard to believe, I have played numerous ftp games without chat restrictions and never seen this become an issue.
With that said there were already a few seen in the Help Channel. -
Quote:Now the restrictions on chat because of RMT while annoying do make sense. As someone else who's been making an effort to team with new players, I still want to know why we can't drop Inspirations on Freems... That's just a silly and annoying limitation all around, and one that did NOT exist for old trial accounts.
But the thing you just posted makes no sense AT ALL.
Who came up with that idiotic decision?
Insps have NOTHING TO DO WITH RMT or chat spam.
I didn't realize that that had made it out of Beta.
*insert epic sized face palm here* -
Quote:Great points made when you think about it from the perspective of a VIP player.
In addition to a 'Free to Play' channel, we need an option like 'Receive tells from free players'. At the very least, if I, the paying VIP, send a tell to a free player, they should be able to respond to me.
This suggestion makes a lot of sense. -
Pretty much this.
ESPECIALLY with some of the idiotic moves being made by DC and parts of Marvel.
For the first time in a long time I want absolutely nothing to do with 90% of the characters of either universe/company.
Once I find a new image, I'll be replacing my avatar. -

Quote:Nothing needs to be addressed. You'll get the points eventually. This is what Zwillinger wrote, describing the problem:
Obviously you're unaffected by the delay in transferring points since your billing date coincides with the receipt of your VIP Paragon Points.
This, on the other hand, is a succinct description of the problem that affects players whose billing date occurs in the first third of the month:
And to reiterate, the larger issue is the context of assorted problems that players have experienced lately. The open question is how Paragon Studios might address it. -
-
Quote:Ahhh, is that all?The issue was whether or not they would do weird things with obfuscation pay structures etc to maximize profits or if that was merely paranoia.
I don't think anyone questioned that they want to make money.
I'd say merely paranoia then.
That was easy, what's for dinner? -
Quote:MMO publishers and developers want to make money!!!!Whoops. My start date was May 4th -- I thought I was there at launch, but it looks like I was about a week later. My mistake.
So they'll probably deliver new content items on the 15th of each month. Whatever is the best time that their data tells them for grabbing those impatient buyers.
News at eleven.

Quote:Looking at all these responses I think Shubbie is WRONG in thinking that most players think Stj is weak in any way shape or form.Kinetic melee is junk, Super strength is overpowered, Martial arts is very good for tanks, Stj is weak in aoe, very weak.
Just saying. -
Quote:Completely and thoroughly disagree.People's arguments that "so it's middle of the road, every new powerset doesn't have to be uber" are null.
Yes, not every new powerset has to be uber. Free powersets don't have to be uber. But powersets you have to pay should be superior to free powersets. Otherwise, make them free.
And from looking at Beam Rifle and the epicness that is Time Manipulation, so do the devs. Whether something is going to be bought or is free should have no bearing on balance. -
Quote:/inset black and white pic of applauding man here. You're saying its good business to tell all of the players that they can buy anything whenever they want, and at any time for any reason all they have to do is push a button and get their money back?
That's one opinion. Mine is that I would veto that idea by strangling it to death in the first design meeting it came up in.
You say its bad practice to "leave customers unhappy." Is that an actual rule, or just something thought up for this situation? If its a rule, what's the cut off. Do we refund people who decide they are unhappy with the set in the twenties? Forties? How about people who decide they are unhappy with the performance of the set in incarnate trials? If its bad business to leave people unhappy, all these situations should be bad business. Which ones deserve remedy? All of them?
How about if they rebalance the set? Unhappy, so refund? How about if they just make all the other sets better but don't change the set at all? Still unhappy, so refund?
To me, this is extremely impractical. Its sets a dangerous precedent the company can't really follow through on consistently, and inconsistency is worse than doing nothing. Far, far worse.
Now, as to the issue of demanding a refund for a powerset for which you do not have the numbers, if you actually know that this is a position you believe in, you have a personal obligation not to actually *buy* a powerset you don't know the numbers for. And saying you tested it in beta doesn't matter, because all beta testers, among lots of other things, are expected to recognize and understand that everything in beta is subject to change at any time, and subject to change prior to release without warning. If you can't accept or agree to that, you are not supposed to beta test.
I will say thought that I think there should be some way to check out a purchase and what it gives you before you buy it. -
Quote:I would prefer if they had a system in place that shows the exact values of what someone is buying, and exact animations and look of what someone is buying if it's cosmetic as opposed to a powerset. THAT part I can agree with.I already said Im not upset enough to do the chargeback, but it is an option that some players may take.
Im sure they dont want to be dealing with all that.
They need a refund system to deal with unhappy players in their house instead of someone else's.
Which has been my point all along
As long as you can adequately try before you buy, there's really no need for an elaborate refund system IMO. -
Quote:They've already had 7 years of payments from you. Avoiding system-wide problems with Credit Card provider trumps losing one customer.Yeah they can close the account, but they would loose a paying customer who has been with them for 7 years and I would loose my account.
But I would still get the money back.
But again, not good business.
You never want to loose a customer for stupid reasons, and not offering a refund even if the customer is wrong is one of them.
If a credit card provider identifies PS/NCsoft as fraud prone, guess what happens to being able for ANY OTHER player using said card company to pay for the game. Soooo, no if they DIDN'T ban you, they could be putting A LOT at jeopardy.
In this case they have more to lose from keeping you after the charge back, than by banning you. -
yep.
RMT sellers use a similar tactic, which is why to my knowledge NCSoft takes attempted charge backs VERY seriously.
Whether what I've read about is true or not, I'm not sure.
But I sure as hell WOULD NOT bet my account on it.
Shubbie, YMMV.
EDIT: Good to know I wasn't imagining things. -
Quote:The bolded part can't be correct, as Ultimus came in a few days ago and posted the changes. So I have to say I am extremely disapointed and unhappy with Street Justice .
The set is just plain weak... the aoe's are so small as to be meaningless, and a 5 target limit on one and a 10 on the other.
ITs inferior to SS in both single and aoe damage.
The set was changed from the time it came off beta but before live, and did not go back on test.
This feels rather bait and switch, even though it wasnt nerfed live.
To move onto a general point, will we be able to get refunds on sets, powers, etc that we feel disappointed with.
There was no way to view the real stats before purchasing, so again I feel this was a somewhat deceptive.
I am EXTREMELY unhappy with this. -
Quote:I actually don't mind if we have parts of a paid expansion every week. Especially since there are parts of GR I WOULD NOT have paid for had I been given the choice. That's essentially how I feel - VIP accounts should be as they were before. I don't mind that we have a cash shop, or that we have microtransactions. I just don't think VIP subscriptions should have to use it/them. I see I'm clearly in the minority, so this "drama queen" will stop now.
And for the record, I bought every paid expansion to the game. Bought the collector's editions even (I like the swag). But if every week we're going to have a mini version of a paid expansion, I think that's a bit much. The shiny will wear off that coin pretty quick at this pace.
Today, Beam Weapons is something I skipped altogether and won't ever be getting.
Titan Weapons I may also skip, staff melee probably not.
My point is I like that we have choice in what we can and can't get. I don't expect (or need to) buy every single thing they release . . . which is exactly how I treated past boosters. -
*looks at thread*
What is this . . . I don't even . . .
